Old Watch House in East Dorset

Thankyou to your staff for treating my 89 year old godmother as a "VIP" yesterday. We had the most delicious lobster in this friendly restaurant right on the beach in the sunshine at West Bay. First class food and service with attention to detail to their customers. Superb. Plus parking right outside the door. Well done. We will be back.

An average breakfast for a large price compared with other places. The 'full' English breakfast comes without toast...an extra £2.50 per slice ! This was a reccee visit for a small family group, we won't be visiting again.

My family and I attended for lunch. The staff were welcoming, although did make a few mistakes. The food was tasty, but again a few mistakes with bits missing. However, when brought to the attention of staff everything was rectified.

Stopped here for lunch with two kids. Food (3 pizzas and 1 pasta dish) was fine, nothing special at all but nothing to complain about. The staff were at best disinterested - no character to the place at all and not very friendly. Over priced for a totally forgettable experience.

Had lunch here. Enjoyed the hake & chips and the crab sandwiches were bursting, although fairly expensive.

Popped in for a bite to eat and left with halp a pizza. Delicious later cold for tea. Good service and reasonable price.

We've eaten at Watch House a couple of times and both have been positive experiences... Remember though, this venue is on the beach so it's not a fancy restaurant... if you're after cracking pizza though, this is a great option!

Excellent service, excellent meal, couldn’t fault it. Super friendly staff. 👍. We were visitors to New Quay and had tried the other cafes across the road - our survey ses - they were seriously bad and expensive. Brill this one!

Shame the watch house has cynicallydecided to cater to the pizza and pasta crowd and ditched everything that made this place worth visiting. No seafood just humdrum pizza and pasta and some token gestures of seafood. Disappointing. This used to be a regular haunt. Not anymore.

The food at The Old Watch House looked wonderful and we were sorry we were only there for coffee. The tables are very sticky from the cleaning fluid used which meant our sleeves stuck... Anyone wanting the toilet was directed to the public toilets across the yard (not very user-friendly) Goods for sale on shelves, but as these were behind customers dining at tables it's not easy to look at the items. (And we shouldn't get that close to others, should we?) Would definitely return to have food - the fish and chips looked amazing (£17) There were also unusual and tasty breakfasts on the menu.

Had lunch here on a very busy bank holiday. I had a pizza which was delicious and served promptly. My husband had a crab sandwich which he claimed was the best he’d had! Would definitely recommend this cafe.

My friend and I decided to have a coffee here as I haven’t used it for a long while. Well... where do I start? We wanted a coffee and tried to order it at the counter and pay! No..... Despite saying we know what we want we were given a menu and advised to sit at a table and they’d come to take the order! Why? After a wait if 10-15 mins we eventually caught the attention of another aimless staff member to take our order! It then took another 10 mins or more for the coffee to come. Usually I don’t mind the wait if it’s busy (it wasn’t) BUT there was two members of staff ( one of whom insisted we take a menu and sit down) stood outside chatting to customers for the whole of the time we were sitting waiting. I was very tempted to leave but my friend dissuaded me from doing so. However I wish I had because we again had great difficult paying for the coffee as staff members kept passing the buck to others to take our money. Throughout the time staff were stood around talking, seagulls and starlings were having a field day clearing up the plates that were left outside on the tables after customers had vacated. All I can say is bring back the old Watch House when the staff knew exactly what they were doing and actually performed well in their job. This is the very first time I’ve given a poor review but I felt so incensed at the total lack of staff commitment. On a positive note the coffee was nice!

Had a couple of pizzas here tonight. Very nice large size. Seafood pizza and meat feast washed down with a couple of bottles of local hive. A hoppy lager. Staff very friendly. Pleasant meal

We stopped of for lunch and were recommended a pizza. It is cooked in a wood fire oven and was very tasty and big enough for both of us to share. It was good value for money and we will return.

A nice place with friendly staff. We only called in for a hot chocolate but we were made very welcome. Would definitely go back to try the food. Very different sort of setup, very nice indeed.

You might think, why are you writing a review if you didn’t eat here! We went in and sat down outside, with our dogs. There was not a lot on the menu for lunch, it was more dinner items. They had run out of a lot of the menu, so choice was very limited, and the prices were high. We left and found a pub instead.

Excellent service and great food. This is an offshoot of The Hive cafe at Burton Bradstock, and just off the beach too. Cannot be faulted for its fresh fish, crab sandwiches and pizzas.
