We recently stayed in Bishopsteignton and were recommended to have our Sunday lunch here. So glad we did, it was excellent in quality and portions. So good in fact we booked in for breakfast at the end of our stay, again the portions were just right and freshly cooked. So disappointed to hear the current owner has now sold the business and it will be changing hands in November but wish the new proprietor well and hope the current staff are retained as they are lovely, professional, friendly and helpful ❤️❤️

My son treated me to the Sunday roast for my birthday. The atmosphere was welcoming, fresh and clean. They welcomed dogs too which is a big must for us. The food was beautifully cooked, homemade and plentiful. I cleaned my plate plus tried red cabbage for the first time (this was extra special apparently).

The old walls has lost its way very poor menu for lunch food unappealing we had a ploughmen's lunch which was okay but not very tasty and a Croute monsieur which was dry but okay. The menu needs to be re thought.

A very nice off the beaten track, unique experience. Quiet and tranquil lunch with views across the Devon countryside. They offer a nice standard menu as well as a Specials Board, all sensibly priced. The crab sandwich, chips and salad was particularly nice. There are numerous Old Walls Vineyard wines to sample by the glass (very different grape varieties to the norm). I would recommend the Wine Flight to the adventurous wine drinkers. Easy free parking and lovely attentive service throughout. We will visit again.

Had lunch here today. As we walked in and stood for a moment to take in the scene (hadnt been before) we were greeted and offered service by a gentleman tucked away doing something( admin) he left what he was doing and attended to us ,clearly he was not waiting staff and could have just kept quiet and left us to wait for his staff to sort us but he didn't.I was very impressed with this sort of service as it's getting rarer .so a good welcoming start and it only got better. Clean environment and lovely views. I had steak pie ,and it was a proper stand alone traditional pie ,whole plate was visually attractive and tasted delicious My husbands hake was equalled of a high standard . Due to medical reasons i couldn't try the wine on this occasion BUT we certainly will be returning here

A fantastic breakfast! Well worth a visit if you are staying locally or passing by. We only had a breakfast, 30 weeks pregnant so we didn’t do the vine tours. However, looking at the adverts and the attraction it looks lovely a worth a second visit. Breakfast was worth the price and was fresh. All staff were friendly and gave attention to our dog too, even with a little biscuit. Thank you for a lovely morning.

We have eaten here many times in the past - generally speaking we love it. Lovely location, staff always helpful and friendly and food usually excellent. Took some friends for their first visit today and whilst overall everything was fine I have to say that my steak was not good. Really tough and chewy and yes I know I should have complained at the time but with friends visiting for the first time I didn't want to make a fuss. I did however mention it to the waitress when we paid and she said she would pass it on. Hopefully the chef will have a word with their meat supplier. I must say that everyone else in our party of four were very pleased with their meals..A very small hiccup regarding my request for vegetables as I don't eat tomatoes or mushrooms but the owner happened to be sitting at the next table and stepped in to sort things out very quickly to every ones satisfaction. A really nice touch!!! So, would we go back - yes of course we would as I'm sure today was just a blip and won't be repeated. Still highly recommended.

My daughter and I were bought an afternoon tea voucher for when we were on holiday in Devon. I was blown away with how pretty the place is, they’ve got the most amazing view overlooking Teignmouth and towards the sea. It was throwing it down when we arrived so sadly we had to sit inside, but you can see the view through the large glass bi-folding doors. My husband, son and dog had planned to go for a nice walk but due to the rain they couldn’t, I asked if they could join us and they were very easily accommodated. It is sometimes hard to find a dog friendly place so we were really happy. The afternoon tea was the best we’ve had! A lovely chunky tea pot, with more than enough tea and the sandwiches, scones and cakes were magnificent! There was so much we took some home! I had a wonderful glass of rose too. My husband had a gorgeous chicken burger and chips from the specials boards. I would absolutely love to be in the area to return and perhaps try a lodge and wine tasting tour. The staff are super friendly too. Finally, the sun came out and we were able to stand outside and admire the view.

The views are great and during the summer the seating area outside is lovely, but I would recommend the place for drinks or coffees only. I've eaten there twice now, once last year which was an average experience, and I attempted to give it another try again today. There were only 4 tables with customers to serve. We waited over 45 minutes for our lunches. When we enquired about the delay we were told that their delivery lorry was late, which would have been good to have been told prior to ordering so we could have made an informed decision about whether to stay.I ordered a prawn sandwich which @ £7.95 was way over priced for what turned up. The presentation of the sandwich was poor. Bread that looked like it had come from a sliced loaf with more marie-rose sauce than prawns which was dripping out the side of the sandwich, a bit of salad and a few crips. The gentleman at the table next to us commented that my sandwich didn't look any better than something I'd buy at a motorway service station. My son's Regents breakfast was ok but the egg was broken and the yoke had all run under the ramekin dish with the baked beans in it, and the toast was uncut and looked like it was a last minute thought. What with the overpricing and the blasé attitude to the delay we decided to go and eat elsewhere, as did the couple sat near us on another table, who were also fed up with the wait and put off by the presentation of our food. Not at anytime did the manager come out to apologise. I feel sorry for anyone booking a wedding or a function up there if this is how they carry on and don't serve food that is worthy of the prices they charge. I won't be going back there again and will not be recommending it to anyone else.

A very welcome addition, lovely building, fantastic view, the option of being inside or outside on a large terrace. It all brought back happy memories of similar facilities in New Zealand. All very clean, sleek lines to the building, very modern. The starters were good, tasty and beautifully presented. There was a good selection and service was friendly and efficient. The main courses arrived, I had sea bream, again beautifully presented, however the fish was off. Two of us in our group had this problem, others were alright. We were told that they had a fresh delivery and could replace with that. Presumably that meant that what we had was older. I didn’t fancy the fish after this so changed to chicken. This was cooked for me and was very good, a tasty, generous piece. The pudding was fine though I would suggest that dessert forks as well as spoons are laid on the table, makes life easier! However, when I went to pay, a different lady said “oh you had the sea bream”. I said, no, that had to be changed as it was off. No apology and certainly no compensation for a meal which could have made me ill. I found that surprising, it left another unpleasant taste.

Dining outside under an umbrella with a wonderful view, simple good food. Of course accompanied with a bottle of white and red vine, prefer the white. My whitebait and local steak, salad and chips was excellent, local butcher. Others in my party had crab and scampi compote and chicken, (bit dry). Wonderful location. Dust from newly laid clippings a pain, a drop of rain will sort that out. Service? Well it needs attention, my party of four were all at the counter waiting and the lady asked “Is anyone waiting?” Odd. She showed us to a table without taking menus to give us or a wine menu. I went in and found them myself. Salt and pepper packets blew away, proper set would suit the place. Very nice experience on the whole. Thank you.

Visited with five other friends and a well behaved dog. We’d originally booked a table outside as there are stunning views of the countryside but as the weather wasn’t cooperative, we sat inside. There is a varied menu including good choice for vegetarians. Between us we had the Nut roast Beef Sunday roasts, the sea bass, the sausage and mash special and the barbecued pulled pork with spring onion rice. All our meals were well cooked, presented and delicious. We found room for pudding and had the apple tarte tartin, Creme brûlée, chocolate cake and chocolate brownie. Again the presentation and taste were very good. The service was very friendly and the prices are very reasonable. There is also a good and interesting drinks selection including course wine made on site. A lovely experience and we look forward to returning.

We visited the restaurant yesterday, Good Friday. It was like walking into a soulless bar, none of the old world charm it previously had. Living nearby we often walked out here for a coffee and cake. It was a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and a great selection of cakes. The layout suited the area, lovely to sit outside on the deck, and also to be able to sit undercover and still be outside. We were so disappointed with the new building. Surely in the countryside a more rustic tearoom and cafe would be in keeping with the surroundings.

We visited the vineyard for a family lunch and booked a table in advance as we know it can get very busy. Over an hour later we were still waiting for our food. We had not been told at time of ordering that there would be a delay on food nor did anyone come and explain during the time we were waiting. Eventually I spoke to someone who assured us our food would be with us shortly. Even then we did not get our full order together and our side came after the rest of our food was almost eaten. We have been coming to the vineyard for a number of years and have seen many changes. I appreciate that with the new holiday cottages they are busier than previously but I felt that the service let them down, and think it would be sad if they lost local trade due to this. The staff are all very friendly and the girls who seemed to be in charge over the lunch time period were trying very hard to please everyone but seemed to lack direction and were getting very flustered. I hope they can get this sorted as it is a lovely place to vist with spectacular views and good walks near by.

We ate at the cafe a couple of times and it was fine - simple fayre, but friendly service and a nice view. We have decided to give Old Walls Vineyard three stars based on the facilities and what they are trying to market and not Ken and his family business. I believe they should not be opening to the public until they have finished building works and when they have at the least, renovated the cafe. It was quite naff and very dated. They have so much potential, yet they are failing to achieve the reputation or the success that their wine deserves. There was nothing offered in between each wine during the tasting to cleanse the palate (perhaps offer smaller pieces of cheese on the ploughmans and use some during the tasting). We were simply topping up the same glass with the next wine as well. Although funny at the time, not really appropriate to have cleaning staff walk through the middle of the tour while Ken was speaking. Such a shame really as you can see the hard work and commitment involved and Ken really knew his stuff. Top tip: maybe invest in a PR person to help with selling the brand and getting the place looking more eliquant alongside the Vine consultant. Spectacular views of the countryside while eating made for a good day!

My wife had been given a vineyard tour gift voucher (several locations through the UK) as part of her retirement present. We had tried to book at a (relatively) local vineyard but could not solicit a response. As we were heading to Devon for our daughters 30th birthday for few days, I thought we could try a vineyard there. I discovered Old Walls. We have done both vineyard and distillery tours elsewhere before, some which were good, but this was exceptional. We arrived at the vineyards restaurant just after 10am and were given coffee and time to unwind. At 10.30am our group of about 10 were led down into the vineyard to a spot were there were benches to sit on while the proprietor explained how he started the vineyard from a barren field, all about its development and how the vines were planted and brought on. We then had a shortish walk (some terrain is quite steep) through the vines with frequent stops so he could example things. This all lasted about an hour and a half; the time just flew as he was so interesting. This was followed by a comfort break back at the vinery and then into the vinery itself where the wine is made for a explanation of the various processes. After that there was a tasting; no flannel here just simple explanations so a chemistry degree is not require! Then we retired to the restaurant for lunch; a choice of mains (plowman's or afternoon tea) followed by a cream tea all washed down with a glass of wine. And it didn't finish there we had a bottle to take away! I think it was about 3.30pm by then.We so enjoyed the experience, we stayed on for the rest of the afternoon drinking wine with people we met on the tour. One thing for sure, its definitely good value for money and we would go back again if the opportunity arises! We also noted that local people just use the restaurant for breakfasts and lunch.

The vineyard is small and personal and such good value for money. There were about 25 people on our tour and we all chatted together. It is a great experience and one to recommend. The wine is lovely too. The cakes looked amazing and so did the lunch.

There is building work going on so first impressions not great. However, we visited for the wine tasting and afternoon tea and both were very good. We decided not to take the tour, having done that many times in different places.I used a 'Buy a gift' voucher for 2. It was a birthday gift. Included was the tasting of 8 wines, a lunch or afternoon tea (2 courses) plus a bottle of your choice to take home. I was driving so had to only sip my wine, my husband had most of mine. Beware. We gave mixed reviews of the wines from OK to really good. A matter of personal choice of course. The Devon scone, clotted cream and jam was outstanding. We sat on the sheltered terrace overlooking the sea, just lovely.Tip - do not go expecting the full and sophisticated wine tasting experience of say a South African or Italian vineyard but expect a very enjoyable one. Do take care on the narrow (one car wide) lanes that lead to the vineyard. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.

A great vineyard tour. The owner was very knowledgable and was more than happy to share his personal experience with the tour party that had arrived for the morning. He took his time explaining the whole process (from grape growing to wine making) and the morning flew by. The wine tasting was fab as was the pate ploughman lunch with a glass of complimentary wine, which was included with our package. The free bottle of wine was a bit surprise and I'll be sure to enjoy that sometime soon.Well worth a visit!

Went here for food for the first time the other day! It is fab. We had the ploughmans with cheese and ham! It was really wholesome and uncomplicated. We have healthy appetites and felt satisfied. The welcome is extremely warm. A great atmosphere with a view to boot. I would recommend it to anyone.

Had a long yomp over the back roads from teignmouth this afternoon so hot and ready for something to eat and drink. We opted for cream tea - lovely scones and plenty of tea. Could easily have gone for jug of Pimms and bowl of nibbles. Lovely views and so restful. Wine is also good -bought a couple of bottles.

We were lucky enough to receive a visit to this lovely place as a gift. On arrival we were offered refreshments, soon afterwards our tour began, and I can say we enjoyed every minute of the tour, the tasting, the lunch and the cream tea that followed. To sum up, the proof of a good visit is whether you go home having purchased what you were there to try -and we did!! Thank you for a lively experience, we learned a lot, and when you have those holiday homes up and running we will be back.

We walked from our house in Teignmouth to old walls vineyard. Set in a very rural aspect with stunning views of rolling hills. The vineyard has a lovely outside area for eating and as it was a very sunny day we sat outside. The menu is basic and simple, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches etc. Two of our party had ham, egg and chips, I has a jacket potato with ham and we also had a toasted sandwich. We finished with ice cream. Total cost including drinks was £36. We did not have the local wine. For a local winery where the grapes are grown on site we had expected local produce used. Service was prompt but the food disappointed when it came. The lettuce was iceberg, the ham was not local, the ice cream carte d or. Devon has so many great local ice creams that I would prefer to pay more for it. I thought the cafe would have a local bias with regards to food but unfortunately it did not. We would come again as the walk was breathtaking but not partake of the food, drinks only. Please consider more local food on the menu and I would score it five stars rather than three.

We thoroughly enjoyed Ken's informative wine tour, the wine tasting was good and afterwards we had the cream tea which was delightful with a glass of wine thrown in. Would highly recommend this place. We have been back several times to eat and never been disappointed, the staff are always very welcoming and food has always been excellent.

Bought 2 Groupon vouchers for food and wine tastings showing validity "Thurs - Sat", as assumed this meant Thursday to Saturday inclusive. This was fine as my Wife has Fridays off work. Phoned to book but was told it meant Thursday OR Saturday, but not Fridays "as they are a working vineyard"! Didn't seem to be interested in achieving any customer satisfaction, so cannot recommend purchasing this experience.

My son bought me a 'Buyagift' voucher for my birthday which I decided to use at this vineyard in conjunction with a holiday down to Cornwall. This was a FANTASTIC, MOST ENJOYABLE finish to our trip.On arrival, tea/coffee/'registration' for ½ an hour was followed by 'Ken' (the host owner) looking after our tour, which took 3½ hours - taking in the family (farming) history, the setup of the vineyard, the collaboration with a (German) consultant, the purchase of land, the first (3 years) development ... then a stroll around some of the vines (8 varieties), explanation of the machinery used etc. etc., all conveyed by Ken in his lovely Devon accent. Then, a visit into the production area, including pressing/filtering/piping/bottling processes, and, of course, tasting all explained in great detail. Afterwards, a lunch provided - and the option to purchase the vineyard wines (at very reasonable cost). All in all, we arrived at 10 a.m. and were reluctant to leave at 3.15.p.m. - it was a beautiful, sunny day (which made all the difference) - I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND any wine lover to visit Old Walls Vineyard, one, if not the best, attraction of its kind I have ever visited ... WELL DONE, Ken, and a HUGE 'Thank you' for a WONDERFUL day.

Our friends invited us for lunch to a picturesque place called Old Walls Vineyard in Bishopsteignton. The interior is really cosy with pleasant atmosphere and the terrace where we had our tea has a beautiful view of the countryside. You must feel relaxed and happy in this place. The food was delicious, all of us were very happy with it (we were a group of seven people), we appreciated their home-made products, fresh and tasty, the staff were nice and polite, we enjoyed the local wine with our lunch and we relaxed on the terrace with our teas and lemonades after lunch. If you want to spend a lazy afternoon with nice food and wine or you might prefer their cream tea with home-made scones and if you like beautiful views of the countryside, this place is really worth visiting.

Had been looking forward to my first vineyard tour and it was beautiful weather. When I emailed them to book they quoted £50 for 'a tour, tasting and lunch with a bottle of wine' so far so good! We had coffee when we arrived and were given our 'choice' for lunch - a cream tea or plough mans and a scone and cream! Not what I had in mind but I thought a nice ploughmans can be very tasty. The tour was informative but way too much information, I didn't want to know about spraying, types of tractor, and sterilising methods. The tasting was again, disappointing, 8 types of wine, none of which I would want to taste again! The lunch was then served - 2 pieces of cheddar, a piece of Brie, a piece of a baguette, iceberg lettuce, chopped peppers, couple of pieces of tomato, some rather nasty pickle and 1 cocktail onion!! You could have a drink with the meal and we chose a soft drink. Lastly the scones were shop bought and came with what I thought was 'Tiptree' strawberry jam but no, the jars had been washed out and filled with a cheap jam with no fruit pieces in it whatsoever, so I can conclude it was the cheapest supermarket jam, sorry but £50 for this was outrageous. We came away with their sparkling wine (thrown in and we paid the extra) which was the only wine we weren't allowed to taste.

This visit was a Xmas Present from our girls. We had a lovely sunny day , just the occasional cloud putting in an appearance. On arrival you check in, and staff offer you a tea or coffee whilst you wait for everyone participating in the tour. A short stroll to be seated at the front of the vineyard for an informative and interesting talk about how the vineyard began. We then were taken on a short tour of the vines, seeing the different types of grape used. I would suggest good footwear as the ground can be a little muddy in places where machinery is used, and more so if it's rained, as this vineyard is on a steep hill. Next stop wine tasting and being shown the process of what happens to the grapes after they are picked, again interesting. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of most of the English wines. Delightful lunch of a ploughmans(preordered on arrival), followed by delicious scone, clotted cream and jam. We enjoyed a glass of their wine with our lunch, but tea/coffee, soft drinks are offered. All in all a lovely day out. As part of this package we were able to choose a bottle of wine. We also bought a few more as a reminder of our enjoyable visit!

Visited on a very wet day - English summer! - but thorough enjoyed our visit. Ken's knowledge of the business and the history of Old Walls that he shared with us kept enthralled through the morning and into the afternoon when we enjoyed our lunch and cream tea. It would have been good to be indors rather than on the patio for lunch as we had booked months ago but another tour took priority and we had to sit on the rather cold patio in anoraks etc, although we were sheltered from the rain. This is primarily a wine tasting/winery visit and the restaurant is secondary.

We popped in to Old Walls for lunch with family on a dreaey bank holiday Sunday. The staff were friendly enough and the delicious freshly baked scones were lovely! The cheese ploughmans was also very good and the tea that came with the cream teas seemed unending (4cups at least per person, great!)Seating was a little cramped indoors but there are seats outside.Final total came to a reasonable £5.20 or so, per person. Not bad for a lunch in Torbay!Overall: Staff 9/10, Food 9/10 and cleanliness 9/10. Would not hesitate to return!

The lunch was part of a tour. The 'staff' - family run business -were rude. Snapped at all of us to 'sit', 'order', 'do this, do that'. Barked at some poor guy who came in just for a coffee, assuming that he was there for the tour and how did he have the audacity to sit down before registering!Egg sarnie, Tesco's sliced bread, no frills. Iceberg lettuce. Oh dear.

The vineyard is in a fantastic location and worth a visit for this alone if the weather is nice enough to sit out. The wine is quite nice and we like to support local businesses such as this, so we visited a couple of times whilst on holiday. On our first visit we ordered the 'selection of nibbles' for £2.95, which said on the menu contained 'a selection of crisps and nuts'. What we received was a selection of the cheapest crisps money can buy from the value section of the local cash and carry. I asked if there were any nuts and was advised that there weren't. I therefore sent the selection back as it was not as advertised and was certainly of very poor quality for £2.95.When I went to pay the bill the charge was still on there and when I explained why they had been sent back the miserable waitress said 'the menu says nibbles and that's what you got'! When I explained that the menu clearly said 'a selection of crisps and nuts' and this isn't what we got I sent it back and we ate none of what we had been given. She then asked the other waitress for confirmation that we had not ate ANY of the cheap crisps we had been given. The other waitress confirmed this and she therefore reluctantly removed the charge. On our second visit the same woman said 'hello again' and clearly had a bad attitude and did everything in her power to make it clear that we weren't welcome. The food is average. In conclusion this is a fantastic location that is sadly being spoiled by one waitress who clearly should not be working in the hospitality trade. We therefore sadly probably won't return.

Went with mother for lunch and we sat outside on the decking. We both had a toasted BLT sandwich with chips and the portions were big and of great value. I would recommend to anyone wanting a simple yet delicious lunch in a relaxed and beautiful environment. I have previously done the Vineyard tour and gleaned so much information about the growing of grapes and the processes involved in making the Old Walls Wine. Well worth a visit for the food and try and get on a tour of you can.

We were bought a Gift Experience of a Vineyard Tour and decided to book here due to the other excellent reviews. The weather was definitely on our side as it was a lovely sunny day and on arrival at 10am we sat at the picnic benches enjoying a cup of tea whilst the other guests arrived and checked in. We also ordered our lunch at this point. The tour started at 10:30am and after being shown to benches facing the rows of vines, Ken introduced us to the history and story behind the Old Walls vineyard. He was very informative and interesting, explaining about the grape varieties he's growing and the difficulties they encounter due to the steepness of the land. We had a walk about through the rows, taking in the stunning scenery all around before being shown back to the winery. After a quick break, Ken then talked about the process within the winery from pressing, fermenting to bottling & labelling. He had 6 bottles for us to try, 3 white, 1 pale rose, 1 dark rose and a red. My only suggestion would be that the white & rose wines would have tasted so much better if they'd been chilled. Ken came round and poured a little into our glasses to try.The tour took approx. 2.5 hours and then we were shown back to the picnic tables for our lunch. You also got a glass of the wine of your choice with your lunch. I'd order the Cream Tea with egg mayo sandwiches for lunch and it was lovely. The surrounding countryside and the views make it a perfect setting. As part of the tour, you also get a complimentary bottle of wine to take home and a discount should you wish to purchase any further bottles.Overall, we truly enjoyed our day here and would highly recommend it to others.

We all enjoyed a tasty, reasonably priced breakfast. Service took a while but that was explained to us and they were very busy. Good sized portions; my Eggs Royale (with smoked salmon) was delicious. Quite a noisy space, difficult to hear at times, again, probably due to how busy there were. Easy to park (and free!) Not sure where the ‘Italian’ theme has come from?

It is always an enjoyable experience coming to No Limits in Newton Abbot (Devon). I have food allergies and they have a fabulous menu that can cater for so many whether that be allergies, coeliacs or vegan. I really like their ‘pay it forward’ scheme which helps provide food and drinks for people who are having a difficult time. Most importantly, it is brilliant that they are providing opportunities for people with various needs and it’s a pleasure to be served by such enthusiastic and happy staff :-)
