Irregular hours but when it is open nice buzz and good selection of drinks. The area has changed quote a bit and now not top of my list

Have loved this place since the 1970’s. Lovely building, quirky character. Good alternative to all the generic chains of pubs everywhere and a good choice of drinks. Nice friendly staff and somewhere well worth a visit.

Such a shame, this place use to be completely buzzing, great atmosphere, great food! Warm comfortable social place to be. Now it is a cold empty shell, no food, no heating and no atmosphere! Sold yourself to the students and forgot the locals! Shame shame shame!

Went here for our Christmas meal...not great!!! Food was average with frozen veg!!! Lots of food left on plates. However I have eaten here in the past and it was very nice x

Entiendo que el lugar ha sido tomado por la puerta de al lado, y quizás el mismo enfoque en beneficio de más de ambiente ha entrado agua en todo el camino. Two friends and I had lunch here today. The service was quick and friendly the food was really good plenty of choice and reasonable prices.It was a pleasant welcoming atmosphere.Would highly recommend it.

We popped in here for an early drink on the way to dinner and was amazed at how nice it was. Lovely atmosphere with nice low key lighting. We didn't eat but menu looked great. Will be back.

El director, Stuart, es muy servicial y la comida es ahora no sólo bueno, pero viene en porciones muy generosas y el precio es razonable. Es un buen lugar para un evento privado. Celebramos una fiesta de jubilación aquí hace un par de meses y todo salió muy bien.

Buffet provided for a leaving do. Catering for 60 people the selection of salads rice dishes meat and fish was excellent. Also fruit and lovely desserts. We had the room to ourselves with bar service.

Had a lovely meal here with a few of my work friends, it was great value and the food was delicious.

Old Timers is the best pub in Exeter by far. Good food, good prices and the best waiter in Devon in a quiet charming place, ideal to enjoy your daily lunch. 100% English.

Decided to try again after a years absence, Arrived at 7pm Tuesday to be told kitchen was about to shut as they had run out of food ! This place used to be great about three years ago but we will not try again.

Really enjoyed our meal! Huge portions and good quality food.Staff are excellent, very friendly! Will certainly be back.

We visited Old Timers after coming across it by chance. It felt and sounded great. Little disappointed once inside to find basically a Pub - as opposed to a Wine Bar & Restaurant - but we decided the Menu looked good so we took our choices and ordered. Very pleasant and welcoming Mine Host and we had Starters of Pea and Mint Soup, with our Mains of Pie - Chicken for the Boss and Beef & Guinness for the Servant - both served with the standard Pub Chips & Peas. Food was Good and the Pies especially tasty. If you are in the Market for good home made fayre OT is good, but if you are - like we were, hoping for a little more in the Wine Bar / Restaurant Style maybe think twice..........

This is a pub I had forgotten about until a few days ago, I was waking around Exeter and I went up Castle street found the bar/restaurant and found it felt and look the same as long ago, they have new people in charge but nothing as change the atmosphere the beer food is the same if not better, if you fancy a night out give it a try it's well worth it. 10/10.

I often eat and drink in Old timers. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and always welcome me with a smile. The food is great and they cater to every need I ever have, being a fuss pot the staff and chefs ensure that every meal is adapted to my liking every time I go in there, this extends to anyone that goes in there. I would recommend this pub for the excellent pub grub they serve day and night

Went today with my family, Mom and our partners- only 1 other person in there, was quiet for lunch, really friendly barman , lovely fresh food and lots of it and the Sandford Cider was tasty. Very impressed with decor and ambience - 100% would go back-give it a go.

Old Timers has not changed... still full of charm, with excellent food, wine and friendly staff. you can't go wrong! Over the past 10 years, my friends and I have enjoyed many a night in Old Timers and I would fully recommend a visit.... What are you waiting for?!

Always had lovely food here. For our group of friends its always our place to go, the bar man is always really friendly and remembers us from when we visited before. Would recommend! Clare

My parents used to eat here a lot and were disappointed when it closed. It is now open (although it was like the Marie Celeste when I was there on a Thursday lunchtime). It was OK. My mother loves it there. I think there are better places in Exeter to do lunch. Few vegetarian options on the menu. The service was friendly and prompt. I do think the place needs to up its game, to keep up with other lunch spots in Exeter though.

I come here often at the bar downstairs with friends or after work for food or just a pint of ale. The staff is always friendly and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Look out for the steak and a drink offer and the pork belly on the specials board (if it hasn't sold out!). Good portions and tasty. Very different but solid alternative to the fire house and Oddfellows.P.S.: be aware it's often drinks only on Wednesday evenings during term time because of the student sports societies taking over the place...

This used to be such a great place but has certainly lost its way now. Food on this occasion was not very good. One meal was unedible (too spicey hot). Gammon steak was not a steak. In fairness the burger was good. Service was very slow we had to wait nearly an hour for our food and was constantly fobbed off with "they are doing it now". One time I looked forward to going here but not now. Shame to see it go that way.

What a shame this use to be such a great place to eat, its gone down over the years, I had a terrible meal the last time I went food was not cooked, I complained straight away was offered another meal no apology, just had to accept it, we have not returned and it is a shame as we use to visit 5 times amonth

Haven't been for a while but used eat here quite a lot. Sweet little restaurant where you can feel at home. Lovely welcoming staff, amazing food and drinks aren't costly like most. Looking forward to coming again.

Nothing flash or fine dining, just a relaxing place close to the centre of town where you can have a tasty value meal and a bit of fun with your mates. Love it.

we called in at Old Timers with the intention of eating there. When we arrived there was only one other customer, who was sat at the bar. We bought our drinks and sat to look at the menu. The whole time we were there the barman was talking loudly to the customer. It was very much a one way conversation and the barman seemed to like the sound of his own voice! At one point my husband had to remind him a lady was present and could he therefore refrain from using the F word. To his credit he did apologise. Then a group of young people in fancy dress came in. They were directed upstairs but told they would have to purchase drinks in the downstairs bar as the first floor bar was closed. They were a friendly bunch who were quite happy with this. However, after they went upstairs the barman "I'm going to have fun going up and down those stairs tonight, seeing if they're nicking stuff. At least there's CCTV". At this point we decided we couldn't stand any more and walked out.

A favourite of mine with family or friends. Good value, friendly staff. How the last reviewer can give three 1 star reviews, when he/ she didn't actually eat there, beats me!

Great homemade food and lovely staff - a must visit if you want a nice filling meal in a relaxed setting.

Been before - will be going again!14 of us invaded this place last nite and had a fab time.We pre-ordered so that there would be minimum messing about and we would all eat together - which we did.Quality of the food - great - all enjoyed.My rack of ribs were great, loads of flavour and plenty of meat on the bones. All in all a great place for good value food.

The first time i have been to Old Timers in about 3 years after hearing mixed reviews and several changes in ownership. Although it was extremely quiet the food was excellent and can highly recommend the home made burgers. Let's hope people start hearing about Old Timers again and make it as good as it once was!

Very quiet, had steak and ale pie, looked like it had been cooked day before....spent the rest of the night throwing up! Used to be such a great restaurant will not be going back

Family meal, table booked early so we were able to relax with plenty of time before the England Match.Seemed great to start with, probably as we were the only people in there.Sadly went down hill very quickly after ordering the first round of drinks.Food took over an hour to arrive and one meal was so late that most of us had finished eating before it actually came out.Last meal to be served was greasy and cold but after waiting for nearly an hour she ate what she could. Ended up calling it a day and heading elsewhere for pudding and drinks.If this is the service you get when the place is empty I dread to think what it would be like on a busy night.Also appears that there is a bar man who also doubles up as a waiter and very possibly as the cook as well.

I've rung their phone number for days now and nobody answers. What's going on? This is no way to run a business. Listen up people, no matter what the problem and there obviously is a problem you put a notice on your (rather poor) website and put a recorded message on your telephone. It's not rocket science. You have (or did) a loyal fan base but you need to tell people what's going on. It's the only polite and decent thing to do to your friends, especially those who have supported you over the years. I'd like to review this bar/restaurant under it's new management, but on both occasions I've visited (different days of the week) there has been a handwritten note on the door saying "Closed". No way to run a business!

Went to go to old timers for lunch ( under protest) on Tuesday and it was shut??? What's going on??? Are they trying to lose business on purpose???

Go here around once a week for lunch. Food side now run by posh nosh and I would say it's gone up a notch! Only downside is drinks have to be paid separately but not a real problem except girl behind bar was quite slow! Still great atmosphere. Bad reviews by first time reviewers?

I have been a regular in old timers for 6 years. I'm in my 60s , and not ashamed to put my name to my review. My name is Chris, and I have been going to old timers at least once a week for several years . The was a period of poor food and service around 18 months ago, but Stuarts return saw that put right, and he had a wonderful lady called Sarah working alongside him. Neither are there now, and it's completely changed the place. That, and the change of menu. The food used to be good value, home made , delicious and plenty of variety. I'm sad to say that it is no longer. A paper menu, little choice and the quality of food is poor. It's seems to be full of students a lot of the time and I believe the two young girls behind the bar are students. It may be me being old and set in my ways but I don't feel that it's as warm or welcoming and I can't see myself going back there any time soon. A terrible shame. The food is certainly not worth the money.

I am a regular to old timers and if I could be anywhere I would chose to be here! It has such a vibe and the staff are great! There are two bar maids, Sophie and Indi they are so nice and two people you can talk to all night long! Great place to drink I advice to pop in I you are around!!!

Visited old timers this lunch time. The menu has completely changed vas there is little variety. We ordered 2 cheese toasties and they were a congealed mess. For £6 you would expect more. Tuna baguette was standard. Over priced and very poor presentation . Such a shame , this used to be a wonderful place. Now there is no atmosphere at all and it's very unwelcoming and eerily quiet. That's the last time I shall go in there. Not 2 months ago this place was buzzing, full of character and unique to everywhere else. How times change.

Still great environment & beers but the food is dreadful !You pay for food & drinks separately now. The place gets taken over by students after 10.30A long period of excellent times but no longer

Visited Old Timers for a meal on Saturday 18th October. Decided to go for the meal fairly late, and booked a table for 2 over the phone around 6pm for an 8pm meal. I'm new to Exeter and havent visited many restaurants here so wasn't quite sure what to expect.We arrived and ordered some drinks at the bar. We weren't taken to our table, but this wasn't a problem. Menus are found at the end of the bar. You don't have your order taken at your table and instead go up to the bar. Again not really a problem. We did think that we had come to the wrong place as the menu differed from the one available online. I ordered Whitebait as a starter and a Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom pasta dish for a main. These were both extremely tasty and I would recommend them highly. My friend had the Salmon fishcake for a starter and a burger for the main which she said were also really good. The atmosphere of the place is really good, although the closeness of some tables meant we were sat next to a particularly loud group who had just come in for some drinks. This is a fairly minor point though and didn't spoil our enjoyment of the evening.Overall was really impressed with Old Timers and will be returning again for sure.I was really impressed with the food and it was definitely good value for money. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Excellent evening.

I visited Old Timers for the first time in a couple of years to have food with my partner and 8 friends before my Birthday party and it is still as great as it was on the many times we had visited before.We were all very pleased with the meals we had, i personally had the mixed grill which was the best i had had in a long time and they are all such great value.Great food, great value, great atmosphere!Thanks

the food here is lovely , very generous portions and the price is brilliant . staff are very helpful and polite , food is always served piping hot and taste is perfect .... great for a family meal and value

Been to this little restaurant a few times now and have had over half the menu, all good yum. Great atmosphere and well laid out interesting place. Good service from the bar and food doesn't take that long to come out even when its full and that seems to be every time we are there so must be good. The different baguettes and curly fries options are very good value and quite filling. Will be going back again soon.

Never even knew this place existed despite walking past before. Went here for a group meal and everyone only had great things to say about how tasty the food was and interesting the surroundings were.

Visited this quirky little establishment on Saturday 23rd February. We have never been before and it really full of character. we ate in the downstairs bar area and received excellent service from the lady behind the bar, even though it was busy she did a fantastic job of keeping everyone happy. we had our grandson with us and she really made a fuss of him. food was good, although there was a bit of a wait but we were warned of this on arrival. will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this pub for family meals. My husband said it was the best steak he had had in a while, and my grandson was very grateful for the smaller portion of pasta they did for him, nothing was too much trouble.Top marks.

We returned here again with work and i really think this venue is best at lunches for small groups. We had pre ordered. Food arrived hot and was of a high standard.

Been here loads over the years and you really can't go wrong if you need simple but hearty food, casual pub atmosphere and have a good appetite. Highly recommend the baked camembert and also the ribs. If you're visitng Exeter and want a good night this is great. Also attached to Timepeice bar and club if you want to go somewhere after without queuing but not at all connected if you want your own experience. As someone esle has said, avoid the chain restaurants and have you meal somewhere fun with a great character all of it's own.

Old Timers is a very relaxed eating environment. Something for everyone on the menu. The decor is great with lots to look at and the staff are very chilled and friendly. Food portions are more then generous and they are very reasonably priced. Great for snacks, a meal for two or a group party. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

We had our annual work outing here last Friday. It was a very busy lunch time and both upstairs where we were seated and downstairs were full. The Roast Turkey and Potatoes were very nice but the vegetables appalling and tasted of vinegar. Dessert was lovely, apple brulee. Staff were working very hard to try and get everyone served. I love this Restaurant but do prefer it out of season.

I visited Old Timers on an evening out in Exeter with friends for dinner and I was impressed by my experience. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I enjoyed a Stilton burger served with chips and salad. Everyone else in my party also seemed to enjoy their meals and the staff were friendly.

I only discovered the restaurant (upstairs) on my daughter's graduation day, but what a find! I was with a party of 18 and we all had the graduation menu....superb. the sea bass was divine. Can't reecommend old timers highly enough. Staff great too.

We went recently to Old Timers for an evening meal as a party of 6. The menu was standard pub food but the execution was superb. I went for the beef chilli with crusty bread - very tasty and I easily polished off the bowl! Portions were excellent and I have no complaints about the food. The prices were very reasonable.The pub is decorated with a variety of quirky nic-nacs and it makes interesting viewing whilst eating! Service was fine and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I,ve always loved this place when ever I am in exeter. All the nic nacs around reminds me of a great wine bar in London embankment called Gordon's wine bar..It feels so cosy inside and quirky..The staff always friendly and a great choice of everything you could possibly want on a menu...love it

I eat here frequently, and am never disapppointed. Great selection of freshly cooked food to suit all tastes, including veggies, some mexican, thai,curries, as well as full English cuisine. New chef on board does a great selection of daily specials, including selection of fish dishes. Friendly swift service goes down well to top it all. Great atmosphere and decor!
