Henry’s in the Market is an absolute gem! The charming rooftop offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area, creating a perfect spot for a relaxed, scenic experience. The cozy outdoor seating area, complete with vibrant red umbrellas, adds a splash of color and a welcoming vibe. The historic charm of the building shines through, from the clean and inviting stairwell entrance to the beautifully maintained decor. It’s clear that Henry’s balances character and comfort seamlessly. Whether you’re stopping in for a meal or just a drink, the atmosphere feels upscale yet approachable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

by pass this place for sure. we arrived around 4pm slow time no excuses. we sat upstairs which was lovely. ordered a simple chopped salad which consisted of chopped dried out green leaves, bacon bits and egg. we had to fish for any morsels of bacon and egg to make the dried out greens palatable. my tito’s vodka, splash of water and cranberry was really ice, water, cranberry and a splash of titos. disappointing. i’ve visited charleston dozens of times and enjoyed many places this is not one of them.

My friend and I did not have a good experience here despite the pictures and reviews portraying a cool vibe. They charge a variable cover fee for late 90s/early 00s cover band music (we tried to ask about the music beforehand but the people at the door were very unfriendly), confusing pricing for drinks that changes drastically if you move from one area of the restaurant to another, and the crowd there was insufferable. It reminded me of a frat party. One bartender I interacted with was pleasant, but most of the staff seemed miserable/pissed off and I'd never go there again.

If you’re in your 20s and looking for a lively, party-centric atmosphere, Henry’s might suit you. However, for mature couples seeking culture, sophistication, and ambiance, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. The staff came across as dismissive and inattentive, and the doorman was particularly rude and unprofessional. The music setup was disjointed, with one room blaring while another was barely audible. Seating was also a challenge—the most pleasing room has roughly 20 seats, making it nearly impossible to find a comfortable spot. We felt misled when asking the doorman what the $20 cover charge included. His curt response was “juke box,” before hurriedly pushing us through to accommodate the large line behind us. Realizing quickly that this wasn’t our scene, we politely requested a refund only 10 minutes later but were flatly denied “absolutely not!”. When I mentioned I planned to leave a bad review (something I’ve never done) the doorman smuggly yelled as I crossed the street “Go ahead, we’ll still be open tomorrow”. In a city filled with exceptional establishments offering refined dining, creative cocktails, and warm hospitality, Henry’s fell short on all fronts. This party scene was the one disappointment of an otherwise great trip.

This is one of the only places we found open later at night on a weeknight. The kitchen is open until 9:30 pm and then they change over to the bar. We ordered the gator bites and jambalaya. The gator bites were tender and very well seasoned. I asked for remoulade instead of the bbq sauce that came with it and I was so glad I did. The combination was delicious. The jambalaya was hot and flavorful. It was not spicy at all, so good for those who prefer something mild. The only complaint I have is the service. Our server was potentially having a bad day, but it was an awkward interaction. Unfortunately the worst service we encountered in Charleston.

I ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos and it was so bad I could not eat it and believe me I will usually will eat anything. It was cold, the cheese was like Tostitos cheese dip, the nachos you get at the movie theater is better. The server could tell I ate like 1 chip and I told him that it was bad and I couldn't eat it and he still charged me $20. Wife ordered a side salad and it was pretty sad as well. Just moved to Charleston and won't come back anytime. For future situations like this, I should of documented the meal with photos and spoke to the manager on the spot. So disappointing. I want to like this place because of the location & the old building. We are dt locals and the bartenders are oddly rude. We are a tour company and I’ve sent ppl here because it looks cool hoping maybe that I had a bad experience since I’m often a goofy person however this is the 4th time I’ve been here and the bartenders aren’t welcoming. A bartender once accused my brother of snapping his fingers at him and refused to serve him which we all laughed off because it was so absurd. Super great location but the management and staff needs an attitude adjustment. I used to work in F&B and I get it ppl can be exhausting but there are other jobs you can do & it was a Wednesday not the weekend (that had me write this Karen review) I saw the staff go into the private bar, close the curtain halfway and drink while all the tables needed to be cleared for a private party on the third floor. There were probably 4 or 5 tables covered in glasses. It says something that the carriage guys don’t hangout there being that they are right there and they love cool dive bars in addition to the fact that they are in customer service as well. Go to Church and Union, Burns Alley, Bumpas or Big John’s.

The only "local" option was shrimp and the fried shrimp tasted no different than what I can get in Kansas or Arizona. The calamari was rubbery and the "charred" asparagus was tasteless and not charred at all. My fiance has the chicken salad and ended up sick all night long. It has been a while since I have enjoyed a restaurant so much that I have been unable to put the meal and the experience out of my mind. As a graduate student in hospitality who has been working in multiple realms of industry for a little more than 5 years, I could write an essay as to why I will never visit any other restaurant in Charleston, but I will do my best to remain brief. Firstly, the food was amazing. As an appetizer, my party of three shared the calamari which was delicious and I will be ordering again (once I have made my way through the rest of the menu). As an entrée, I ordered the mahi and it was cooked perfectly, the flavor was amazing, and the presentation was beautiful. The two friends I was dining with ordered the blackened chicken pasta which they both enjoyed very much. I would recommend everything we ordered to anyone grabbing a bite to eat at Henry's. Secondly, and this is the main point that wowed me to the point of writing this Google Review, the service was of a quality I have yet to find in many other restaurants-- especially at such an affordable price point. Our server was Garrett and he was incredibly charming and very kind when my friends and I were so indecisive about what to order. He kept a close eye on waters and my friend's drink to ensure we were never having to grab his attention for any refills. One thing that has become too common in the restaurant industry is servers obviously working for tips. This was not at all the case with Garrett. For context, I have a friend from high school who comes from Tennessee to visit for a week at the end of every summer. This is the only time we see each other during the year and we always have one night where we treat ourselves to a little bit of a fancier dinner. It was very clear to me and my guests that Garrett recognized this was a special night for us and was very respectful of our time and conversation as he remained available to us without the multiple interruptions that many servers make. Additionally, Garrett continued to refill our waters and let us enjoy our evening until we indicated that we were ready for the check. To me, this was a sign of a well-trained server and a higher-end service standard, which was extremely pleasing to find at a modestly priced restaurant. Furthermore, when my friend was brought the seafood pasta instead of the blackened chicken pasta, Garrett went above and beyond to rectify the situation. Assuming the correct dish would be brought out quickly, my other guest and I decided to wait to begin our meal until the last entrée was served. After a few minutes of waiting (which was a great sign that every meal is made fresh to-order), Garrett brought out an order of fries and said "here is something for you all to snack on while you wait." This has stuck in my head because it showed that he was watching our behavior and did what was in his power to eliminate an inconvenience rather than offering a free side as an apology to avoid any complaints or bad reviews (not that we would have ever done either). I was just so beyond impressed by Garrett's attention to detail that the entire evening has been unable to leave my mind. To management, Garrett and whoever trained him deserve a raise. My only regrets are that I didn't tell this to him in person and that I didn't tip him 100% of the bill-- he did more than deserve it. Henry's is lucky to have him and he is the reason I will returning to your restaurant whenever I am in Charleston. Garrett, thank you so much for such an enjoyable and memorable.

This is the BEST she crab soup in Charleston. As a native, I eat here a few times a month. The food is always consistently delicious, reasonably priced, and a great selection of local favorites! The bar manager is always friendly and fun! He makes my signature margarita to perfection! After 7 years, this is my FAVORITE restaurant in Charleston! 10/10!

Get ready to pay $20 cover and to be harassed by a pink haired security guard!!!! Security and bouncers there are so oddly rude for no reason. The pink haired security guard asked me to move from a walk way when I first walked in. I apologized and got out of the way. An hour later, my group and I were sitting at a table upstairs and that same security guard asked us to move because we were unknowingly sitting next to a private door. I apologized and said “of course we will move I’m so sorry.” And she aggressively looked at me and aid “this is the second time I’ve asked you to move tonight. The first was downstairs.” So odd and it was quite obvious that she was power hungry. Hoping I’d pick a fight for her to throw me out. She continued to stare me down for the WHOLE night (made me REALLY really uncomfortable). Keep in mind- I’m pregnant and sober as can be.. so intoxication wasn’t an issue. Can’t say we will be back. Paid $20 cover to be harassed by a weird security guard. Hope she got the fight was looking for the rest of the night?? WEIRD STAFF!!

Food sadly not great and took a long time to arrive but staff had advised us in advance. Staff were very good.
