Finding it difficult to see where the great reviews come from . My husband and myself went in for an evening meal on a Monday evening. We were met at the bar by a “young lad” who pointed to a free table brought our drinks then we sat waiting for our order to be taken for 15 minutes. The order was taken by the blonde lady who was short,abrupt and frosty in her manner . There weee only a handful of us in there and the blonde lady,maybe land lady ,walked past numerous times but didn’t acknowledge us. When our food did arrive it was very bland . My husband had steak and pie,a small slice,frozen chips and VERY plain boiled vegetables with I suspect ‘bisto’gravy. I had chicken Caesar salad ,it was fine but Nothing more . I asked if I may have extra Parmesan and the young lad just dumped it in front of me on a plate and said nothing. The pub is very much lacking in customer service.No body came over and asked if everything was ok,or if they could get us anything else despite them walking past our table multiple times . We asked for the bill and it was brought over to our table .Nobody explained ,as they didn’t when we arrived there about the ordering procedure,whether we were to pay at the bar or if someone would come to take payment at our table.We got fed up trying to get the lady’s attention so left our money on the table(as is done in many establishments )when paying cash. As we were leaving the barman called to us ‘you havnt paid!!’how very unprofessional,rude and unfriendly .we explained to him we had . Nobody said goodbye or asked if everything had been ok. There are some fabulous eateries in stratford with delicious food and lovely service . The thatched Tavern is definately not one of them.

We arrived as a party of 3, a meat eater, a vegetarian and a vegan. We all had a fantastic meal. The food was freshly cooked, portions were large and the service was excellent. Would visit again

Buon menu, ottime birre, cibo ottimo, arrosto sempre disponibile, prezzi nella norma, locale storico, unico con tetto in paglia di Statford, non molti tavoli, meglio prenotare.

Pre-booked for 6.30pm and arrived at 6.20. Restaurant was full and just one table for two free, having no chairs, but just two low-level stools / buffets. Bought drinks at the bar and ordered food at the table - first choice each were unavailable. Second choices arrived after approx 20 mins and were excellent, if somewhat uncomfortable using stools / buffets. Atmosphere was loud and pub-like and decor was old and of mixed-theme. A bit “spit n sawdust” standards. Tables were not cleaned or sanitised if people left. Overall OK as an experience in a very old pub, but very much aimed at passing trade as I certainly wouldn’t go for a repeat visit.

5 staff behind the bar but only one serving, frosty reception from locals, beer not kept very well (some cask) bit pricey too

Good honest food, freshly cooked and delicious. Homemade cottage pie and vegetables was superb and reasonably priced. Would eat here again.

Oude pub, een bezienswaardigheid op zich. Aardig en attent personeel. Hier EK wedstrijd Ned-Roemenië gekeken. Wij waren de enige Nederlanders. Iedereen was ineens vóór Nederland. Behalve de barman, die heeft Roemeense voorouders. In de tussentijd hier een hapje gegeten. Prima vers pub voedsel. Grote porties. Met liefde bereid. Leuke uren gespendeerd met mensen die ik nog nooit gezien had en ook nooit meer zal zien. De moeite waard om een drankje te gaan doen of een hapje te gaan eten.

Staff were very helpful. Food was excellent ( roast of the day) everything was cooked to perfection and portions were very generous.All of the veg were fresh and exceptional quality.

Excellent pub for a lunch time meal and a pint. Extremely attentive staff excellent price for lunch and would recommend this to anybody visiting Stratford upon Avon. Richard and Bob

Last here in 2019. Nothing changed, still good beer, reasonable wine and good food. Enjoyed the Cottage Pie. The Hunter Chicken had a bit much hickory but they did make it with Veges rather than salad and chips - very accommodating and much appreciated. Service with a smile and they really do care (as shown with the veges). Thanks a lot.

Came here after searching online for the best pub food in Stratford and we weren't disappointed! Absolutely stunning wee pub, fantastic service and the food was brilliant. Recommend you book a table as there was a non-stop queue of people trying to get in, which just shows you how great it is.

At last, a pub that know how to provide good value food. We booked and everything was ready. The Sunday roast menu is straightforward, with lean meat, plenty of vegetables and a Yorkshire pud whatever the meat. Good service, great atmosphere, decent background music, alcohol free beer available. Spot on al lround

Having lived in Stratford for just over 3 months, most of the pub food is good. The service tends to vary between establishments, but The Old Thatched Tavern provides the best quality meals and the service is 5 star. Shame about the lack of ales on draught, but hopefully that's a temporary issue. If anyone wants a good quality meal and amazing service, go to the Tavern!

Have dined here once before but dined again when heading out for the evening and needing a bite to eat before the theatre Firstly unlike other restaurants who have tables booked hours later they fitted us in at short notice. Staff super helpful and friendly without being overbearing Two superb main courses of the chef’s speciality beef curry and the pie of the day. Both were presented nicely and tasted fantastic. Thank you for a lovely meal. We’ll definitely be back

Cosy pub with great food. We had the steak and ale pie followed by sticky toffee pudding. Good sized slab of pie, chock full of meat and fresh veg. There was a real fire, lots of beams and an olde worlde atmosphere. The pub was quiet with only 2 other tables occupied, but it was a very wet Monday evening!

The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious, home-cooked food. Perfect place if you’re looking to go for pub food - we had Pie of the Day and Fish and Chips. We were only in Stratford upon Avon for one night but would definitely go there again if we ever go back! Would recommend to anyone out for dinner in Stratford upon Avon

Just what I was looking for as I rolled into SUA on an early Friday afternoon. Loads of character, great beer served by friendly “kids” Vernon’s the bar - I say miss because it was definitely an older crowd there. Exactly The crowd that would be written into a story of the town. Bonus! Great fish and chips!

Fortunately, we had booked 24 hours in advance because the Thatch was extremely busy early on Saturday evening (18.00). The staff were very friendly, the service was efficient and the Real Ale and food was very good.

We went on a Friday evening having booked. We were given a table at the back of the pub which was nice and well spaced. We walked past a lot of full bin bags inside which we were initially concerned about but then we realised they were bags of Christmas decorations that they had just taken down.To food was very reasonably priced. The steak pie was amazing as was the sharing platter. Having prosecco Friday where bottles of prosecco were £10.99 each was a bonus.

We popped in for a Mulled Wine, but were disappointed when last orders were called soon after (at 17:45ish!) for a private booking. Just would have benefited from a sign outside letting us know, rather than us getting in and settled first only to find out we can't stay. The place is lovely though, hope to be able to visit again when they don't shut early.

We visited Stratford over the weekend of 10th to 13th December and booked for Sunday lunch at The Thatch on 12th December.We have visited previously and always enjoyed the carvery, although due to covid it is now waitress service the quality of the food has not altered.Plenty of vegetables, meat and roasties, good service from the staff.Will definitely go back for our next visit in 2022

Went here for an evening meal and wasn't dissapointed. 2 of us had pie of the day. It was packed with meat and the pastry was nice and thick. On Friday last we took my sister to Stratford for the day after the little market we decided to eat at the old Thatch Tavern in Greenhill Street. We were so warmly greeted by the staff and managed to get a table and the service was brilliant all through our visit. The food was delicious my husband and sister had pie and mash excellent while I decided to go for just a panini which was also delicious as were the chips. The restaurant was warm and cosy and we had the best time thank you so much to all of the lovely smiley staff it was wonderful.

Very welcoming pub and very good friendly service. We ate here 2 nights out of 3 and had lovely food both nights. Sunday roast was massive and delicious. The staff couldn't do enough for us, reserving a table for us in the busy bar when we had finished our meal in the dining area. After the first visit, they recognised us the second night. We only had 3 nights in Stratford this time but will be back visiting relatives in the area so will definitely be back at this lovely pub.

Visited 5pm on Friday evening. Got a seat as was very busy. Bar service average, £10 for pint and vodka and coke. Quaint pub with lots of things on walls to look at historically.

We called by for a drink en-route back to our lodgings after an evening about the town. However, upon entering we were advised that they were closing. It was 2205hrs. Very early closing!

We had a lovely time, I was looking for a proper oldschool style pub, simple great food.. and this was recommended by others on trip advisor. The service was great and simple, the food was also great simple family pub grub. Was great! We enjoyed it ❤️

Having read on Trip advisor how old and full of character this place was we decided to call in for a post theatre night cap before heading back to our Hotel.Checking on here the we found it was open until 11pm walked up and checked the opened times on the door which told us it was actually 10:30.No problem we thought its only 9:50 we can have a drink in 40 minutes. When we went in, it looked quiet I asked if they were still open. The server told us yes for 10 minutes which included drinking up.Very disappointed. If you're advertising being open, at least keep to the hours you yourselves set. Oh and please update your hours with trip advisor.
