I hate to complain but festive afternoon tea was dreadful. Sandwiches were hard like they had just been removed from refrigerator and scones were like rock cakes - when I cut into mine it bounced off of my plate and into my lap. We didn’t even attempt the small cakes on top tier as we were put off. The fire and glass of champagne was lovely but sadly I would never return or recommend and I do love my afternoon teas and regularly have them. Such a shame this wasn’t better as I would have taken friends and family as the setting is beautiful.

A bit of a disappointment if I’m being really honest, the food was good but the restaurant despite only being half full still lacked the required number of waiting staff on the evening to service the tables effectively . On our table there were six people and this resulted in some people receiving their meals as others had nearly finished their same course. The servers were very nice, if lacking some awareness and it’s really the kitchen’s responsibility to manage these timings. At £428 for two courses for six people with little spent on drinks it’s simply too expensive for the experience delivered and I wouldn’t return. Overall a disappointment

Me and my friend went for a girly trip away and we stayed in the feature room which overlooks the river - it was stunning. The beds are so comfy! The room itself is warm, inviting and clean to a high standard. Due to the flooding, the receptionist kindly upgraded us in the likelihood that the room flooded, with it being so close to the river. We then experienced staying in the junior suit and oh my, how beautiful. We have been truly spoilt. It was unfortunate regarding the floods but this did not stop us from enjoying our time away. The staff were lovely, helpful and nothing was too much. We are definitely thinking about staying again!

We had a great time enjoying afternoon tea at Minster Mill. The setting is very pleasant, with the old roof beams and good decoration. It is quite quiet and restful too. The afternoon tea menu has a bit more variety than the usual, so that makes it worth trying as well. The staff were also kind and frequently refilled our tea (with either hot water or even new leaves). All in all, definitely a place to try for afternoon tea.

I had booked a lunch in the Minster Mill Restaurant for my Wife's Birthday. We booked it last week because the restaurant was Michelin Recommended. When we arrived, we were met by a Lady who really struggled with English. We had to repeat ourselves multiple times to get her to understand. She couldn't find our reservation and when she handed me the list of reservations our name was clearly visible on the list ! We were shown to our table but the follow on order taking was very slow. We were not asked if we wanted starters and I asked if we needed any side dishes and were advised not, as the dish we had ordered - Sea Bream had potatoes with it. When the fish arrived it was extremely tough and chewy. Maybe it had been over cooked or as my Wife thought, it may have been cooked earlier and re heated. Unfortunately there was no one around to ask to take it back to the kitchen so we struggled on with it. Eventually a young waiter arrived and we pointed out there were no potatoes with the dish. She said she was happy to order us some fries. Unfortunately these were never delivered before we finished the meal. We decided not to order any deserts because of the slow service and the fact the main course was so bad, so we got up to leave and paid on the way out. We mentioned to the waitress about how bad the meal was and the fact we had never received our fries. She did apologise however she continued to charge us the full amount for the meal which was £78.10 for two Sea Breams plus two non alcoholic drinks. I was never shown the breakdown but I suspect I was also charged gratuity given the size of the amount. Overall we were very disappointed and cant understand why this is a Michelin Recommended restaurant.

The food was terrible. The started included prawns, with a tinned sardine, and a teaspoon of chutney from the supermarket. Main course was (undercooked) cod from the freezer on a bed of gritty unwashed, soggy spinach and served with a hash brown and poached egg. The egg and hash brown were the only elements of the main course that were cooked with any competency. I thought the food couldn't get worse for desert. I had pre-ordered a poached pear and was expecting a pear, lightly poached in a spiced red wine sauce served with cream etc. However, it turned out to be tinned pears, served with what I can only describe a yogurt fruit corner in a bowl! The only redeeming element of the dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful and I was with good company.

Recently redecorated venue. Previously medieval cotswold charm, with comfortable leather sofas. Replaced with modern low budget decor and furniture. Could be in a travelodge. The afternoon tea was disappointing - scones good, but instead of jam some strange whisked concoction. Cakes greasy and lacking flavour - sandwiches a bit bland. Tea selection poor. Service friendly but odd. Wore sunglasses indoors. £35 each a bit steep. What a shame. This place used to be great.

Food was absolutely amazing! My friend and I had afternoon tea and they had no trouble at all catering for me as I needed gluten free. The service was a little slow, we waited half an hour before our food came and a while to pay at the end but the food more than made up for it. Would definitely return for another afternoon tea as it was probably the best gluten free I’ve ever had.

With only six customers at 8 pm on a Saturday night things did not bode well. However, we found both of the staff members very friendly and attentive. We ordered our food, which was haddock and chips. We didn’t expect much in terms of quality however the fish was completely fresh and delicious the batter crispy if somewhat oily and the chips cooked perfectly. The only slight let down was the fact that 10% service charge is added to an already top heavy price menu which was very limited in choice and for a pub the wine is also highly expensive, at £33 for an ordinarily But tasty Australian screw top Shiraz Not a disaster but adequate. In order to be successful, they need to review the menu and the internal ambience of the premises.

We have visited Minster Lovell on many occasions but had not visited the Swan for several years. The menu looked enticing so we decided to eat there when in the locality. We were so disappointed. The restaurant on a Friday night was completely empty. The starter which we both had of salted beetroot was tasty and well presented. The main was Madras salmon which was bland and nothing special and my husband chose macaroni cheese as it sounded as if it would be really tasty. It was appalling -a large plate of tasteless macaroni with no cheese flavour whatsoever with 2 pieces of stem broccoli placed on top. We felt that a tin of macaroni cheese would have been tastier. The head waiter was really nice and took pity on us and refunded the cost of the mains and apologised that the chef had changed and was in the process of changing the menu. We had an orange marmalade bread and butter pudding for dessert which was tasty but the custard was cold (and we were the only diners) and a cheese platter which the chef couldn’t ruin. This is such a shame as the pub/restaurant is in an idyllic setting but please do not waste your money. I have no faith that this new chef can perform given the poor quality of the delivery of food on the existing menu.

We were given a warm welcome from our waitress, Natasha, who looked after us well. It was a quiet midweek evening and the bar and restaurant area were rather chilly ; we asked to move to sit by the fire. The pies were a little disappointing, and rather small, considering this was the speciality, and the veg was cool on arrival,; nearly £70 for two mains and one pudding plus one glass of wine ( incl service charge ) seemed rather expensive.

The Swan pub used to be linked in business to the Minster Lovell hotel next door. I went for dinner in the pub. The young guy serving knew nothing about the wine or menu - he seemed like a new recruit hired for the Xmas period. It turned out Friday night was pie night - as it was pretty much every day of the week. And what a very poor pie it was - not really worthy of being called a pie. A big thumbs down. The next night I ate in the main hotel restaurant. I was the only person in there on Saturday 23 December. It was totally depressing … the sort of place you just want to leave to find some atmosphere. Not a fan. And any hotel owner listening - if you don’t really want to open over the Christmas period, then don’t!!

I’ve had really high hopes for this place…We’ve had our work Christmas dinner there last night and I don’t even know where to start … Food- Starter and pudding was ok, but our main was terrible! Lots of people had Roast turkey dinner and the meat was RAW on some plates ! I’ve actually Had to spit mine out! When one of the servants asked me if food was ok, I told her about raw turkey situation, but she didn’t have it at all! First she said it’s a brown meat, which I keep insisting that wasn’t the case and my meat was 100% raw in places… then she informed someone at our table that it’s the way they cook it, in a bag on very low temperature for 12h, so it’s juicy and again- not raw! But believe me it was Raw! Texture of it was really weird like it was under cooked, even my husband thought the same…I’ve never received stuffing on my plate, but when someone shared it with me it was all flour and nothing more! There was a little cabbage parcel as well but it was rock hard ! And chewing it was a challenge on its own ! The one and only good thing on that plate was one roasted carrot. One person from our table didn’t actually receive her dinner, but I would say she can consider herself lucky… The place looked cosy and tables were looking smart, but it was so dark and cold in there ! To actually check our turkeys on plates, we’ve had to use torches in our phones. It was -2 outside but radiators (on maximum) were barely going. The fire place was nice touch and to be honest the only source of heating in this room, but no one from the stuff actually took care of it, so it keep going out all the time. The bar maid was doing brilliant job, she was lovely and patient with some of our group ;) Overall the whole thing was just one big disappointment.. and we are definitely won’t be coming back there ever, at least not for food!

We popped in here for lunch midweek and left feeling very disappointed. The building and surrounds are beautiful but that’s the only praise I can give. There were 3 staff behind the bar when we arrived and not one of them greeted us. They shuffled from side to side until one lady said to another member of staff “go on, you serve them”. We were told we could sit anywhere & that there were “probably menus on the table”. We ordered and the food appeared very quickly but was underwhelming. My salmon and cream cheese sandwich was as basic as it gets. It was small, plonked on a huge white plate, with the merest smear of cream cheese. There wasn’t even a sprinkle of black pepper on the salmon or a twist of green pea shoot to break up the bleakness of white bread on a white plate. My husband’s Croque monsieur was similarly small and plain. We emailed our thoughts to them on our return home but almost 2 weeks later, have had no reply. We won’t be back.

Pre-booked a table for Sunday lunch, all 6 of us went for a roast beef dinner. The initial waitress to the table was asked what cut of Pork the alternative roast was, the ladies reply was “I don’t know”, she made no attempt to find out and come back to confirm. During dinner our glasses were not cleared from the table and it became a little cluttered, we also had to get up and ask for another jug of water and order more drinks from the bar. Other than the service issues I have mentioned, we found the food to be a really good standard and will return at some point.

Came for lunch, had a croque mademoiselle. Very soggy, think it had been made up in advance with the avocado and ‘sun-dried tomato’ (seemed like finely sliced normal tomato to me) and then grilled with the cheese before serving. Not at all an experience worth paying £12 for. We also had no idea what value the grease proof paper it was served on (on a plate) added to proceedings. On the plus side, the staff were attentive and pleasant, so just a bit disappointing that the food wasn’t great.

Having enjoyed a walk around the pretty village we were ready for a bite of lunch. The Old Swan is a really attractive pub inside and out, and very old. We visited on a Monday - lovely to find a pub open for food on a Monday these days, and they let our dog in, which also scores highly in my book! (there was also a pub garden available). The welcome from the bar lady was low key, but a young waiter brought water for our dog. We just wanted a sandwich and £12 each was a bit steep. We had a Croque Monsieur and a Croque Madame, both toasted golden brown and served with pickles and crisps. So a fairly upmarket sandwich really. Though pricey, we did enjoy our visit.

My husband wanted to treat me to a country weekend away for our 30th wedding anniversary. Just the 2 of us and our dog. The price was £280 per night B&B. At the Old Swan, Minster Lovell, what we got was shabby, dirty and the evening restaurant ambience was not much above a motorway service station, brightly lit with Formica tables and chairs. I’m pretty sure the furniture in the dining room came second hand from the nearby M40. The staff were pleasant and overworked. There weren’t enough of them. We had a garden room complete with rusting old bic lighter, taps that only ran hot unless left on for a good 5 minutes, towels perfumed from the kitchen extractor and cupboards with handles hanging off. We shared our outside space with another room which is OK but the fencing around should have been replaced 15 years ago. The food in the restaurant was average. We booked for 2 nights but made our excuses this morning and came home. The Old Swan charged us another £280 for late cancellation. Had we stayed another 24 hours, it would have been the end of a happy 30 year marriage.

Pie was OK but small. Plenty of meat in it . Served with just kale and half a carrot and some mash. It was overpriced for what it was. Service was slow. Optional service charge was added. I visited there with my eldest daughter, her baby (my granddaughter) and my youngest daughter, still a child, on Easter Monday for a late lunch. My eldest daughter and I had their pie and mash option (£18 - braised beef and a vegetarian one) my youngest daughter, an ample and good fish and chips. My pie was washed down with a nice pint of bitter and it was all rather delicious, my pie very good indeed. So, OK, the criticisms. The service was bitty with 3 different people coming to our table, I ordered a separate portion of chips but it didn’t arrive in time so cancelled, but, for me, the mash was simply insufficient and not in proportion with the pie, even when looking at it on the plate. One more scoop would have been great, guys, and it’s only a bit of potato after all. Too much to ask? Not at £18 a pop I don’t think. Anyway, would I recommend it? The answer is yes - just ask them for a bit more spud!

My wife's sister & her husband booked a table at the Old Swan for the four of us as we recently celebrated our 41st Anniversary, & both our birthdays. She thought it would be a nice surprise, so we weren't told where we were going. It was a surprise, all right! We arrived in good time, & although the (large) car park had some cars in it, we were aware that there seemed to be few people around. The day was cold, & there was a thin layer of snow on the ground, although all main roads were clear. Entering the pub, we were greeted by a young man, who took us into a rustic, beamed restaurant. We sat at one table, but my sister-in-law quickly found that her seat sloped, & she was constantly sliding towards the table, so we moved - mercifully near a radiator. There was a huge fireplace in the room, - but no fire in the grate, so we felt quite cold whilst we were there. We had a bottle of fizz, & looked at the menu, which was one card, plus a supplementary 'festive' menu. We didn't want starters, & there were a few items on the mains list, but mostly it was pie of various fillings. I chose the 'festive' one, & the other 3 all chose different ones. We waited quite a while for the food to appear, & it wasn't because the kitchen was terribly busy, as we were the only diners in the restaurant! On arrival, my pie was topped with an overdone pig-in-a-blanket, & I'm still not sure what was under the crust. All plates comprised a pie, some mash & some kale. We'd ordered minted peas, & they, & any other vegetable came as a side dish, with suitable price attached. I thought that the pie was very ordinary, & at over £17, quite expensive for something that probably cost a fiver, at most. The kale was stringy, & difficult to cut. The ladies chose a pudding each, but my brother-in-law & I just had a beer. After that, we had some coffee. We asked why there were so few diners, & were told that they'd had 25 cancellations that day, & they put the non-attendances down to the weather. That was a little odd, as we'd driven several miles to get there, with no problems. The toilets were clean & serviceable. About 41 years ago, I took my then fiancee to the Old Swan, which was then reckoned to be somewhat exclusive, & rather expensive, so we were interested to see what it was like now, which is where the disappointment kicked in. Not great, I'm afraid, & it won't survive if customers don't feel they're getting value for money, as there's just too much competition in the catering sector. I don't know what the meal cost in total, as it was paid for by my Sister In Law. Were unlikely to return, or recommend.

Sunny day with plenty of social distancing in charming garden. Classic olde worlde pub. Limited post lockdown menu which sounded great but the execution didn't match the description. The Greek salad was wet with water at bottom of bowl rather than any oil or dressing. The olives and artichoke contrived to be bland and tasteless. The half mini pork pie in the ploughman's had a filling that struck me as a little tired. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Shame because the pub looks as though normally it would excel.

We went there for our wedding anniversary. The staff were really thoughtful and ensured that we had a lovely quiet area next to a roaring fire. Food was amazing. We are definitely going there again.

We had two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners whilst staying in the accommodation here. All food was excellent. A small but adequate choice of food, cooked to our liking, attractively presented and good to eat. The portions were all of a good size too and the service was excellent.

Stopped by for dinner last month. The food is good (the cod was undersalted), but prices are very steep- £4 for two slices of bread and butter is outlandish. Service is really lovely, and a shout out to the young server from Bampton- he was a real delight!

We went to this pub for lunch after a 2 hour walk up to Crawley and back through the Minster Lovell ruins. The atmosphere was nice; the egg mayonnaise sandwich was excellent, and there is a pretty good selection of beer. The service was friendly. The place is very clean and comfortable.

I booked for afternoon tea at Minster Lovell Hotel but they had a function on, so they suggested this restaurant their sister site. I checked out the afternoon tea and it looked good so I agreed to move sites. We were not disappointed lovely selection of bread filled with Smoked Salmon and Egg and a Cheese Crumpet. Then we had the cake selection that was great. Plently of tea and because of having to move us they offered us a free glass of Prosecco. Very nice place and we enjoyed our afternoon.

We ate here when staying for two nights at Minster mill on the Saturday night. Firstly, we booked a table on the day and were told we could only come at 6 or 830 as they were fully booked. Got back to hotel, went online and low and behold tables at all times from 7-9pm, so booked for 730. Arrived and the restaurant had 3 tables occupier, virtually empty so confusing as to why we were told they were fully booked! Squid to start - really great! My boyfriends soup was tasty but a very small portion considering it’s a soup. Didn’t come with bread and when asked served one slice - strake contrast to Minster mill Restaurant where you get unlimited baskets of fresh chai bread. I Had venison for main And my boyfriend had a pie and unfortunately both dishes were stone cold. We sent back and were ‘heated’ but remained cold. Delicious venison would have been perfect if warm. Pie was disappointing, deconstructed and small portion not a pub standard winter warmer. Staff dealt with it well and gave us 50% off mains but we’d rather paid full price and it been right. Deserts ok - sticky toffee pudding very sweet. Malteser ball amazing. A few tweaks needed has great potential!

Since it’s makeover, we were keen to experience the new styling and upgraded menu.Although the food was OK and the ambience was pleasant, the service was diabolical. Not remotely attentive and it took nearly on hour for our ‘sandwiches’ to arrive. They were underwhelming in the extreme. When we queried the time it was taking to serve us we were told, with no hint of irony that they didn’t use microwaves!

We arrived here very cold and wet and received a lovely friendly welcome. The four of us had a great meal. The homemade biscuits with coffee were lovely and the Malteser style desert was amazing! Our two dogs were made welcome too and the chef even came out of the kitchen with a sausage in a bowl for each of them - how kind is that! Would highly recommend a visit to this lovely place.

Have been here many times either for just a drink or a meal. Food not cheap, but not your normal pub food either. You can now eat and drink at both locations of the pub, one being the main accommodation side. There are now restaurants in both and on warm sunny days you can either eat in the gardens or by the river.

We were staying at the Minster Mill over the weekend and went to the Old Swan for dinner on one of he nights. The place is gorgeous, with a great atmosphere and polite, efficient service. All the waiters and waitresses clearly work very hard despite being a very busy restaurant.

The Old Swan is a beautiful old building, full of character and history that should provide the perfect backdrop to a quintessential English country house hotel. However, that’s unfortunately where the positives finish. Our room was lovely, though small with a tiny bathroom (anyone with mobility problems might find it hard to negotiate the bathroom even though it’s on the ground floor), the toiletries provided were inferior to ones chosen by other hotels in the location, namely Molten Brown, Aveda or Elimis and there was no extra details such as homemade biscuits or fudge, but that’s splitting hairs. I was able to see inside other standard rooms in the hotel and i was quite shocked as to how small the rooms actually were.

Located in the most idyllic picturesque village. Staff very helpful and friendly but small issues are letting them down. Our room was not as we had ordered and had to wait for alternative to be prepared. Staff provided free drinks while we waited but not a good start. Dinner was average. Cold veg had to he returned and 15 pounds for a small meatless scotch egg on a bed of spinach (main course) was a rip off.

Had a three night stay at the Bell loved it! I extended our stay by a night and couldn’t get the same room as our original booking not disappointed in any way. Our first night was in Teasel a lovely room plenty of room with a nice shower wash room. Nice big comfortable bed. Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the room Hazel it’s situated above the barn. Amazing room with great views across countryside. This room is big loads of space to chill after a busy day in the Cotswolds. A super king sized bed and lovely shower /bathroom (huge bath). We weren’t going to dine at the Bell but as we had booked the extra night decided to have evening meal and breakfast on our first night. Both meals were delicious so also booked for Friday evening again delicious. The staff at the Bell are all very friendly and helpful hard working as whatever we asked nothing was too much trouble whatsoever . Thanks to all at the Bell for making our first visit to the Cotswolds a very special experience. Richard and Keeli x

Following a family emergency, I rang to cancel my table and was charged £70 without my permission. They will say it's on the website, however it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice during the booking process. We had been before and found the food OK and the staff a little arrogant but wanted to try again as hoped it was an anomaly as the surroundings are lovely. There will not be a third time, I have been told by several people that this business makes a loss, that is hearsay and I can't confirm that but after this cynical charge, it would seem they have to make money at all costs.
