Old Salty's in Glasgow City

The restaurant is in a great spot the staff and atmosphere really great.The food was ok . slightly disappointed and at £40 for 2 expensive.

Had a fantastic breakfast here. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Lovely.

Just had an amazing eggs royale in here and my wife had classic French toast (gluten free range is great), and could have happily stayed there all day for lunch and dinner too if we didn’t have to move on and go home

Last Thursday I had a takeaway and got food poisoning The following day I sent a message on social media to inform them and got no reply I sent a copy of the msg today in an email from the same platform but it bounced back I phoned them today Saturday and spoke with a waitress/supervisor who asked me to phone back tomorrow as the restaurant was very busy! My intention was to inform them thinking they might want to review food standards…apparently not….mac ’n’ cheese + chips not recommended…

This place is a bit of a tourist trap, it’s not a traditional chippy. On the expensive side and quality of food not great. I paid £30 for cod, chips, curry sauce, and a kids portion of chips and fish goujons , and x2 drinks. Batter on fish was too thick and stodgy on the inside. Fish very crumbly. My daughter’s fish bites were over cooked. We were placed up stairs and forgotten about, had to come down with my toddler daughter to remind them we wanted to order. Also not given a children’s menu. It was busy and there looked like there were some regulars in there that the staff were very attentive to. Overall it was an OK experience, although I wouldn’t recommend it to people and probably won’t go back unless it was for a cheaper lunch option.

Plate of the day sea bass with potato chips and an awesome bisque... it was incredible, no joke for a michelin star. I think they should put it permanently on the list.

Lovely cafe with fresh, flavorful vegetarian options! I swapped vegan sausage for avocado, and it was perfect alongside the roasted tomatoes, beans, and poached eggs. Big thanks to Anna for the warm and friendly service.

Popped in for breakfast taken upstairs….stained ripped chairs, Luke warm coffee, breakfast nothing special poached eggs not runny a real let down to be honest.

Quite expensive for the quality/price ratio, mainly fried food and a side dish without sauce

I paid money for a macaroni cheese supper expecting quality from your establishment. Nae need for words what the hells that 🤢 If there was pasta in there before, it has now turned to sludge 👍 🤢

When I was on holiday in Glasgow I went here each day for dinner and the food was delicious. They even looked after me with my food allergy.

Lovely place, food was delicious and the staff were very attentive, polite and so nice! P.s. hubby didn't find our tickets 🙄 but we got in anyway. Name was on the list lol.

Least relaxing dining experience I've had. Restaurant was noisey, and staff seemed hyper, constantly asking 'is everything ok?' Quite clear they wanted you to scoff the food, pay, and get out.

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING… we had booked out a table for 25 people for my partners dad’s 80th birthday. The staff went above and beyond for us and we would definitely recommend. We have been eating here for over a year and the food and staff have always been amazing. I would especially like to say Ella (the lady I was in contact with throughout the whole booking) was just amazing! All family and friends, including myself absolutely loved the food and again the staff are just amazing!

Been a regular of this place,food is great and huge portions. However,extremely disappointed with the treatment last night.we waited 25 mins for a table to free up (as we liked the place),got seated,bit of a delay in taking our order,food came and as usual was plentiful and delicious,but when i ordered a coffee ,the manageress came over and told us they needed the table for a booking and to hurry us along,even though i was having my coffee and there was still food on the table,which she was offering us as a doggy bag!....disgraceful conduct and customer service,she should be ashamed. If i had to wait 25 mins for a table and was not notified of any time restrictions or later bookings,i should be entitled to enjoy my meal and not be harrassed out the door. I paid the bill,which had a sneaky 10% service charge added (so beware in case you also tip them) and left and will seriously reconsider visiting there again. Disappointed and left a bad taste in my mouth and spoiled,what was a good meal up till then.

We ordered fish suppers, one with hake fish, and the other with haddock. Both were really really good, served with chips, salad and tartar sauce. The best fish&chips in Glasgow!!! The Australian waitress was very helpful, both with the menu and with coming up for a plan for the rest of our night out. 10/10, would recommend to anyone 🙌

The fish and chips were juicy and very filling but they weren’t too my liking because it was very salty and the food was way too much. The peas were good though.

After fantastic food and customer service more recently I’m disappointed to say that our Pakora and my Mac n cheese was a let down. This was a big order and the family all said the pakora was dry,heavy & inedible,the Mac wasn’t as good as I’ve had it,not cheesy,broken up & overcooked. I wouldn’t order pasta again,I don’t think it travels well. The great bits are the fish suppers, and a thumbs up for the sausage. We will order again from Salty’s as I’m sure this was just a one off blip.

My favourite chippie in Glasgow. No fuss food, simply delicious. Portions are very generous, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. My only "but" it's that is so good it tends to be packed, so some background noise is to be expected. Go for a full supper and if you feel reckless try the caramel cake with butterscotch sauce. Every calorie is worth it.

Stepped for lunch, had steak pie and it was excellent. Service was very good, wait staff were attentive and work hard. Prices were reasonable for west end.

Friendly place to sit and have a relaxing meal , would recommend fish and chips, steak pie, and carbonara was delicious especially with red onion and Parmasan foccacia, Lovely meal.

Excellent experience. Our first visit and certainly won’t be our last! The staff, although kept busy were very attentive and pleasant. Lovely people. The cocktails were terrific and they were as reasonably priced as the food. Can’t rate it highly enough.

Bland, overpriced, bad service. The fish and chips was a 3/10 (passable but overpriced), and the chicken burger was the worst I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten out thousands of times but I’ve never felt compelled to post a review until now. That’s how bad that burger was.

We were greeted with a warm welcome, asked if we had dined here before, we answered it was our first time, told we were in for a treat as the breakfast was great. Taken to our seat at the balcony upstairs. Then left unattended with no service to order while the same waitress took 2 tables orders that arrived after we had sat down. At this point we stood up and left explaining why as we left. Yeah, what a treat

You get the same thing every time at Old Salty's, great food and good service from polite staff, We visit every few weeks and definitely worth the visit if you haven't been.

Incredible seafood! I don’t normally eat scallops but these ones were to die for. The sauce for the muscles I’m still thinking about it was so delicious. The staff were all so gorgeous and attentive.

Came a bit too early at 11am as their fish and chip was not yet available sadly. Tried the egg benedict instead, it was great. Most of the seatings is on the floor above so people with accessibility issue might find it an issue.

£50 bill for haddock that was clearly frozen. Not fresh and so greasy. Will not be back.

Beautiful restaurant with excellent seafood pasta (Mussels and spaghetti was sublime!), lovely focaccia and friendly service! They offer takeaway, sitting in or delivery. The area upstairs is really nice for dining in, and there are some tables outside for al fresco dining. Extensive cocktail menu with good prices too. We'll definitely come back

The place serves nice food with a pleasant atmosphere, however, being charged a service charge for 2 people without being told ruined the experience especially when the tip I gave was ontop of this unknown charge : /

Best fish and chips in Glasgow!

Very friendly staff, quick service and nice food

They close at 10 not 11, and we arrived around 9:45. The dining room was closed by then but they packed up a nice serving of fish and chips for my mate and I to carry out

I tried haggis here today for the first time and it was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. But then again, I’m still not convinced that what I tried was the real thing though. Despite the fact that the one I tried was deep fried, it still doesn’t look quite like the images which come up on Google when you search for it. Is what I tried just the/a commercialised version of it?? 🤔

Waited for very very long time just to get a seat, even though I could see plenty of empty tables that just needed cleaning up. Couldn’t help but feel that me being Indian had something to do with it. I’ve eaten out a lot, even in places like London, and never felt ignored like this. It just didn’t sit right with me. After feeling ignored for so long, I just ended up leaving. Places need to treat everyone the same, no matter where they’re from. Won’t be coming back until they fix this. Very disappointed.

PSA: they’ve changed their epic steak pie recipe. Just got sent a ladle of meat(that doesn’t have a quarter of the flavour the old pie had) with puff pastry on top. Very disappointing, would have went elsewhere for less had I known.

We had the hake and mussels. Best hake Iv had in years it was cooked to perfection 👌

Just back from another fantastic visit to Old Salty’s. It’s the perfect cosy lunch spot in the west end. The staff are really friendly and so efficient. Saying hello to everyone as they come through the door. There was a wee queue for tables when we entered, but the lady made eye contact straight away and assured me they’d have a table in a few minutes. We ordered a haddock supper and the homemade steak pie with chips. Both were incredible. The haddock was enormous and perfectly fried in light batter. The steak pie was delicious with plenty of extra gravy. The chips were straight from the fryer too. They have a pretty eclectic Scottish menu - including lobster and chips. Maybe I’ll treat myself next time!

How can fish and chips be this good. Brilliant food, brilliant service. You know when you are in the mood for Sofa-esq comfort food, but the plan is to “go out”, then if you are close to the West End, go to Old Salty….. I dropped 1 Star of Atmosphere, I know I am being pedantic and I know the venue is small, but it is just a little too cramped to move around the upstairs tables.

Really nice food and lovely service. Came in late (in the rain) after flying up from London, was squeezed in for a quick table for 1 and the food and service was very good. Edit* came back a year later and it was bland fish with a tiny handful of undercooked chips. Shame really as had looked forward to it since the last time had been good. Would have given 2 stars but the first time was good.

Tremendously overrated, bagged salad, slow service and selective seating. Some guests waited for 10 minutes before leaving, others sit outside and are forgotten, thosed deemed 'the right sort' by the hostess are seated immediately. I was seated on a stool by the door, for a continuous crowd of wet and soon to be dissapointed punters to brush past me. I honestly feel discriminated against and I regret not leaving at that point. I finished my food as quickly as possible and then had to get up and chase one of the servers to pay, complete joke. She was far more accomodating to another set of lads who came in as I was leaving, even asking if they were sure they didn't want to sit upstairs (at the actual tables). The macaroni pie is a nice novelty if you're visting and the fish was cooked well but the chips are bland and most of the menu is psuedo-italian food. Overall this place is not worth the trip and I regret not asking for the gratuity to be removed. It seems that there are other reviews that also mention racism which speaks to the intelligence of the wait staff.

Brunch was cracking staff were great we missed the 2pm cut off but still let us order from the brunch menu. The fish teas look amazing will be back

Food here is mediocre at best, and wildly overpriced for the quality. Never had so few chips with a supper. I think it owes its popularity to the fact it's licensed. Simeones on Byres Road far better, plus you can byob. Came here in 2021 so thought I'd give it a try and shouldn't have bothered.

Food's always pretty good. Service would put some of the more heralded restaurants in the area to shame. Always a pleasure to dine here.

The haddock supper was one of the best, but chicken burger disappointing. Very dry, with a really small piece of tomato and a little rocket. For the same price you can get a tastier burger somewhere else.

Cozy atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff. It was NYE so can understand that service was slow.

We need to order the drinks 3 times. It was disappointing. Slow cooked beef brisket burger was delicious but I can’t tell the same thing about the traditional haggis.

Popped in here with my brother for our Christmas day out. Huge selection but we decided on fish and chips. Mushy peas were delicious (although not a huge portion) Service was quick and the staff friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced for West End although we could have saved £7.50 by not ordering bread and butter and the peas (both £2.50 a portion)

The service, quality of food and taste is absolutely delicious. The staff are friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The cocktails are absolutely top rate. What a gem on Byres Road. Everything is done with passion
