Very friendly staff, quick service and nice food

I tried haggis here today for the first time and it was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. But then again, I’m still not convinced that what I tried was the real thing though. Despite the fact that the one I tried was deep fried, it still doesn’t look quite like the images which come up on Google when you search for it. Is what I tried just the/a commercialised version of it?? 🤔

They close at 10 not 11, and we arrived around 9:45. The dining room was closed by then but they packed up a nice serving of fish and chips for my mate and I to carry out

Waited for very very long time just to get a seat, even though I could see plenty of empty tables that just needed cleaning up. Couldn’t help but feel that me being Indian had something to do with it. I’ve eaten out a lot, even in places like London, and never felt ignored like this. It just didn’t sit right with me. After feeling ignored for so long, I just ended up leaving. Places need to treat everyone the same, no matter where they’re from. Won’t be coming back until they fix this. Very disappointed.

Chilled family place with good food at good prices. Staff were friendly and efficient.

PSA: they’ve changed their epic steak pie recipe. Just got sent a ladle of meat(that doesn’t have a quarter of the flavour the old pie had) with puff pastry on top. Very disappointing, would have went elsewhere for less had I known.

We had the hake and mussels. Best hake Iv had in years it was cooked to perfection 👌

Just back from another fantastic visit to Old Salty’s. It’s the perfect cosy lunch spot in the west end. The staff are really friendly and so efficient. Saying hello to everyone as they come through the door. There was a wee queue for tables when we entered, but the lady made eye contact straight away and assured me they’d have a table in a few minutes. We ordered a haddock supper and the homemade steak pie with chips. Both were incredible. The haddock was enormous and perfectly fried in light batter. The steak pie was delicious with plenty of extra gravy. The chips were straight from the fryer too. They have a pretty eclectic Scottish menu - including lobster and chips. Maybe I’ll treat myself next time!

How can fish and chips be this good. Brilliant food, brilliant service. You know when you are in the mood for Sofa-esq comfort food, but the plan is to “go out”, then if you are close to the West End, go to Old Salty….. I dropped 1 Star of Atmosphere, I know I am being pedantic and I know the venue is small, but it is just a little too cramped to move around the upstairs tables.

Really nice food and lovely service. Came in late (in the rain) after flying up from London, was squeezed in for a quick table for 1 and the food and service was very good. Edit* came back a year later and it was bland fish with a tiny handful of undercooked chips. Shame really as had looked forward to it since the last time had been good. Would have given 2 stars but the first time was good.

The lady doing the tables gave the best service I have seen in a long time. Food was excellent also

Tremendously overrated, bagged salad, slow service and selective seating. Some guests waited for 10 minutes before leaving, others sit outside and are forgotten, thosed deemed 'the right sort' by the hostess are seated immediately. I was seated on a stool by the door, for a continuous crowd of wet and soon to be dissapointed punters to brush past me. I honestly feel discriminated against and I regret not leaving at that point. I finished my food as quickly as possible and then had to get up and chase one of the servers to pay, complete joke. She was far more accomodating to another set of lads who came in as I was leaving, even asking if they were sure they didn't want to sit upstairs (at the actual tables). The macaroni pie is a nice novelty if you're visting and the fish was cooked well but the chips are bland and most of the menu is psuedo-italian food. Overall this place is not worth the trip and I regret not asking for the gratuity to be removed. It seems that there are other reviews that also mention racism which speaks to the intelligence of the wait staff.

Brunch was cracking staff were great we missed the 2pm cut off but still let us order from the brunch menu. The fish teas look amazing will be back

Food here is mediocre at best, and wildly overpriced for the quality. Never had so few chips with a supper. I think it owes its popularity to the fact it's licensed. Simeones on Byres Road far better, plus you can byob. Came here in 2021 so thought I'd give it a try and shouldn't have bothered.

Wonderful experience! Warm greeting by 2 lovely sisters who patiently listened and advised about gluten-free options available. Top drawer juicy mussels and fish and chips to fry (die)for:) will be back again, thanks 🙂🙂🙂

Food's always pretty good. Service would put some of the more heralded restaurants in the area to shame. Always a pleasure to dine here.

The haddock supper was one of the best, but chicken burger disappointing. Very dry, with a really small piece of tomato and a little rocket. For the same price you can get a tastier burger somewhere else.

Cozy atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff. It was NYE so can understand that service was slow.

We need to order the drinks 3 times. It was disappointing. Slow cooked beef brisket burger was delicious but I can’t tell the same thing about the traditional haggis.

Had Cod and chips pretty mediocre tea was like warm when brought to table wouldn’t rush back overpriced for what it was.

Visiting from the USA, this was by far the best food we had on our trip. Highly recommend!!!

Popped in here with my brother for our Christmas day out. Huge selection but we decided on fish and chips. Mushy peas were delicious (although not a huge portion) Service was quick and the staff friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced for West End although we could have saved £7.50 by not ordering bread and butter and the peas (both £2.50 a portion)

Great food and would recommend for delivery or sit in. Don’t get take-away. Over 15 mins waiting for my takeaway after paying even though food was ready. In that time a lot of food was collected by delivery drivers and chefs seemed stressed with what orders where going where.

Single Breaded Haddock for the Father and a Battered Haddock with Chips for myself . Fish was edible but it seemed like it was simply dumped in the Fryer and timed to completion like you would do with a Birds Eye Fillet . No flavour and really disappointing . Even my 86 year old father said “this is pretty average “ and he was right bless him . Staff meanwhile couldn’t be faulted

A sok vendég miatt viszont fejetlenség volt. Az ételt előbb kaptuk meg mint az italokat. A pizzát letették az asztalra, de nem kaptunk hozzá tányért, evőeszközöket, szalvétát. Azt kérnünk kellett. Elnézést kértek. A pizza jó volt. Zsúfolt volt a hely. Hangulatos az étterem, de nem csúcsidőben kell leülni.

My wife and I had an evening meal here twice while on a short break, staying at The Ambassador near the botanic gardens. This is in a good location in the main hub of the area. Staff are friendly. Fish and chip restaurant downstairs with italian restaurant upstairs. Downstairs is limited seating but in warmer weather tables are available outside. I had haddock (the best I've tasted for a long time) and chips and my wife who is vegetarian had pizza and chips. We both enjoyed our meals so we returned the following evening. We would recommend this eatery.

2 fish and chips takeaway. Not to the basic standards.

Food was mediocre, but they include a 10 percent service charge the customer is not told about neither on the menu nor by the staff. It seems that they recognised that we were German and charged us extra for that. Last time I was here with my English speaking friends I didn’t have to pay a service charge! Be careful, you might be scammed.

Great little place. The only negative was a really loud & noisy group of men (not youngsters) who had no volume control. Not a problem for the staff but I had real problems hearing conversation at my table. On all other occasions, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

This was the first restaurant we went to when we arrived in Scotland. It was fantastic. Loved the atmosphere. Our waitress was wonderful and patient with any questions we had. I had gluten free fish and chips - it was delicious - probably in my top two fave gf fish and chips I had the whole trip. A friend of mine had a non gf burger and loved hers as well. We were so happy to have begun our trip with Old Salty's!

The steak pie supper is to die for!

A classic favorite in the West End. The pie is delicious and the eggs Benedict are among the best in town.

We went Old Salty's for breakfast a group of 4 staying in Glasgow for 2 days. After a bad experience in Simone's we thought we'd try Old Salty's. We were taken back with the customer service received, if I could give 6 stars I would. From being served by Adam and Julie the service was outstanding, food was amazing. would definitely recommend and will be coming here again. This is how it should be done. Thanks

The very best classic fish and chips! Our servers were two sisters ( can’t recall their names) and they could not have been more friendly and attentive. Highly recommend if you’re visiting Glasgow.

Although we had prebooked! There were other people taken to tables before us who had just walked in off the street. Service was ok. Food was ok but I've had a lot better.

Top class place. We had the full Scottish breakfast and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Very cosy atmosphere with seats upstairs and bar stool tables at the window downstairs. The staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend. Bill was about £25 for two Cappachinos and two full Scottish breakfast with black pudding, tattie scone, two slices of bacon, fried egg, toast, beans, square sausage, mushrooms and tomato.

Placed an order for collection but when I went in to collect it I was told that they had given my order to a driver. Didn’t offer to remake or anything and basically told me there’s nothing they can do about it and if i wanted my food I would have to order and pay again. They made the mistake and basically told me to deal with it myself. Left with no food and no deliveries were made to my house.

When ever l visit back home in Glasgow, Old Salty's is a must visit. Love the food, ambiance. The freshness of the food, reminds me of my childhood.

We have always loved to visit Old Salty's and were not disappointed on this occasion. We wre made to feel so welcome by our lovely smiling faced server, who promptly attended to everything we required. I am sorry I did not find out her name to specifically credit her but do know she came from Perth and recently graduated in law. The food was its usual excellent standard. On our exit the restaurant manager told us that if we went home and put our feet up, she would consider they had done their job. We did just that. As ever, Old Salty's excelled once again,

友人のお薦めで、予約して3人で。地下鉄駅から近く。ビールとスコッチウイスキーの品揃えは良くなく、ビールの後白ワインをボトルでオーダー。二階がイタリアンとスコットランド料理の店になっているが木曜夜でも満席。エビのパスタ、ムール貝、ハギスを頼んで3名でシェア。ハギスは揚げてあってとても美味しいが大きいのでシェアしてちょうど良い、店の女性がお勧めしたペバーコーンソースととても合う。ハギスが初めての同行した日本人も美味しいと喜んでいた。セントラルステーションのあたりから地下鉄で15分ほどで行けて、駅から数分、店の周りの雰囲気も良いし他にも美味しいレストランがあるらしい。サッカーの試合の日は地下鉄も混むので、混む時間帯には注意です。

Got chips to take-away and they were stale and inedible. Had to throw away! Wouldn’t recommend unless it was just an off day!

That’s the best Fish ‘n’ Chips I’ve had in a long time, and believe me I’m no stranger to a fish supper.

Great for a scran and bevy. Although we were upset at the lack of peroni even though stated on the menu.. the ice cold moretti certainly made up for it. Crisp, refreshing, zingy but not too tangy. Great pint. 9/10

I've not even finished eating and felt the urge to recommend this place, omg the food is amazing! It's a cross between a chip shop and Italian, sounds weird but it works! My daughter had black pudding and chips, I went for an Italian dish, chicken garlic and mushroom sauce, the best I've ever tasted! Thank you so much

We were going to the Wild Rivers gig at Oran mor so wanted to eat early and near the venue so opted for Old Salty's as we just want good quality simple food. The menu is scottish chippy classics and Italian favourites. The four of us had a mix. Macaroni pie and chips, jumbo battered sausage and chips, carbonara with a side of chicken panoramic and I had the puttanesca with a fabulous piece of hake. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the portions were generous enough for me to try a bit of everybody's. Simple food but cooked and seasoned really well. The puttanesca was delicious, really generous with the capers and olives and anchovy; so tasty. Very friendly and efficient service. Still had time to go up the road to loop and scoop for ice cream and churros. A great start to a great night.

Love the food I try to have something different every time, the service you receive is extremely friendly the 2 ladies are always smiling and very helpful at explaining the different dishes,the atmosphere is very relaxed and the place makes you feel at home always a great place to eat

Great little place. The food is simple and terrific.

Nice food. Average service. It was Monday night so not super busy but I was ignored by 6 staff for about 10 minutes. No one explained whether it was table service or if I had to order at the counter. One girl was nice in the end and showed me to a table upstairs. Once I sat down the staff were nice but some communication would have been appreciated

The food used to be amazing but has gone terribly downhill. Staff are lovely so it’s a let down that the food is rotten, my sister had diarrhoea soon as we left.

Very friendly service and a good atmosphere and location. My favorite part of this meal was the mishy peas. The mint is a great addition in the recipe. While the fish was great quality and good portion size, it was also lacking flavor. Some added seasoning would make this a 5 star. Using salt/pepper and vinegar doesnt take the place of proper seasioning however i know its all personal preference 😁. I can still say it was a good place to enjoy a good meal

Food is good, I was a huge fan of their fish and chips, until they mocked me and spoke to me “ni hao blur blur” something in Chinese? and they were laughing. Never gonna go back to racist’s restaurant.

Went there for dinner and asked the waiter about the fish and chips. We explained to him that we had fish and chips in London and it had no flavor, he assured that this would not happen, he stated that they have won several awards for their fish and chips.Well guess what, it was bland. The mushed peas with mint was really good. The chips were ok.

Decided only fish and chips would hit the lunchtime spot. Staff very pleasant - put two tables together for the four of us (which was fine) but later offered us more space if we wanted it - which we didn't. Service a little slow but it was a busy lunchtime. Food excellent, though one hake was more batter than fish. Nevertheless, a well-deserved strong recommendation.

We stopped in for some lunch on a Saturday afternoon as we had heard good things about the food but the service/experience was awful. They had a large 60th birthday party seating and the staff seemed incapable of handling both the party and other guests. We ordered a lasagna which tasted good but unfortunately was cold as for some reason my plate was left on an empty table for 5-10 minutes before being served to me, we tried to flag this but our plates were dumped on our table and the staff quickly ran off to attend to their large party. As there was such a large party and us having to be somewhere else we didn’t complain as we didn’t want to stir up a fuss during someone’s birthday. The final insult was the 10% tip added to the bill automatically without us being told and we were thrusted a card machine very quickly before we could check the bill. Overall a terrible experience and we will not be back again and that type of service and cold food is not worth the £40 spent at all.

We ordered the Cod fish with chips, and the sausage with beef stew. The batter for the fish was really crispy. The sausage and beef stew were really tasty

Decent fish n chips...the chips are tasty and not at all greasy. Great homemade steal pie, too. Thumbs up.

One fish was lovely, one was spoiled by hard, thick overcooked batter. Wish I had sent it back.
