Great food. Generous portions. Good vegetarian options. Buddha Bowl was superb. Lovely location and garden and friendly staff. Good choice for a dog friendly lunch out. We'll return.

A friend told me to try here, after a not so good pub meal recently. We have been going here for years, last time was last summer, so spur of the moment decision we went at midday on the first sunny day this year. It was really busy inside and the garden was buzzing. Hubby ordered the Bangers and Mash, and was really impressed, 3 large good quality sausages and Creamy fluffy mash With loads of thick gravy and tender broccoli, which he loved. I had the Moules Frites, Wow! A Huge portion of tender Mussels with gorgeous white wine and garlic sauce. With Bread and crispy chips. The sauce was so delicious I just couldn't stop eating it, but we couldn't eat everything. Didn't get to desserts or coffee, but thoroughly enjoyed all we ate. The staff are really lovely, run off their feet, but so efficient, serving both inside the pub and the garden. Didn't have to wait long at all. A pleasant pub on a lovely day, with great food....job done!

Really amazing country pub! We visited as a large group and the service provided by the staff was exceptional. Lisa in particular was very accommodating to us and we had no faults with the food at all. All our orders came out correctly and in good time for a large group. The food was delicious and the menu options were very diverse. Fantastic pub with a lovely atmosphere and friendly stuff. Will definitely be visiting again!

I’ve been to this pub a few times and I finally got round to writing a review. I mean it when I say that this is the best pub in Sussex, it has everything you’d want, a traditional pub style, lots of parking, amazing food and lovely staff. My latest visit was as a group of 12 people for a friends birthday and our servers Lisa and David were great very attentive and made us feel very welcome even on a busy Saturday. They never got impatient with us even when we were splitting the bill 12 ways or getting indecisive when ordering food. I cannot recommend this pub enough, the menu is huge with amazing specials every time I visit with traditional options as well as lots of unique options, everything I have tried in my 4 or 5 visits has been delicious. The pub is also surrounded by lovely countryside so there are plenty of options if you want to go for a walk before lunch.

We visited as a large group of 13 for a friend’s birthday on a Saturday. We were accommodated for wonderfully with them putting up a birthday banner as well as doing a birthday plate which they brought out with a candle! The food was absolutely incredible - special mentions to the loaded mac and cheese, Brie and bacon chips, the firecracker ramen, and all of the desserts! Lisa made us all feel very at home and adapted to our needs as best as she could and we are all super grateful for such a lovely meal and atmosphere!

Warm friendly and welcoming and most important the food was great. Unlike many chain pubs that proport to do freshly cooled food, the standard at the Old Oak was very high, the portions were also very generous. I would certainly say this was value for money and much better quality than the generic food that many pubs serve. I will return and certainly do recommend.

We went twice over a week. Once we sat outside and second time inside. Both times were served by very pleasant staff and the food was good. The second time it was my husbands birthday and they put up a small banner saying happy birthday and served his dessert on a plate which said Happy Birthday. It’s these little touches which often make a difference to one’s enjoyment.

Lovely owners and waiters, amazing menu and looked nice inside. However, was very cold inside. Food was delicious, however the portions were way to large. The loaded mac and cheese quite literally tasted like you were eating a whole block of butter and was enough to serve about 4 people. Chips were good, and a large range of drinks.

Lovely county pub however, not the most welcoming .When my family and I visited it was very busy so I understand the food wait and staff did say sorry for the that but my fish and chip wasn't the best. The chips where quite cold & fish was dry and bit overcooked .The menu did seem a bit over priced in my opinion because the food quality doesn't meet the standards you would expect, however pudding was lovely and I had the crumble. Wasn't 100% satisfied but it was extremely busy would try agin but at not such a busy time maybe .

Our order was eventually taken, over one hour later we received our main courses. Vegetable tagine with rice; the rice was a solid lump of rice and not particularly flavoursome. The fish cake was over cooked and dry. We waited so long for anyone to clear the plates that I started to clear them myself. The couple after us had experienced the exact same treatment we all agreed we wouldn't be visiting again. During this whole process did the owner or manager come and apologise!

We came as a group of 4 hoping to have a nice lunch, but we were really disappointed. Two of us ordered pies, mine came out stone cold and under-baked so I was told they would make me a new one (waited about 15mins while everyone else was eating, it was taken off the bill though). The next one still had raw pastry around the bottom so just ate the filling. And accompanied only by a few peas, would be nice with some proper veg for that price! The roast was very small, leaving one person at the table still hungry after leaving. Others at the table said their food was mediocre/below average. All in all, nice service/staff but very poor food. I don’t mind paying a big extra for meals if this means better quality, but this is not the case here!

This is one of our local "pubs" where we have enjoyed some very good meals in the past. Sadly, when we went there for supper last week, the standard of food had slipped badly. Two of us ordered "fish and chips" which were subsequently described by the two who had ordered the dish as "cold and floppy" whilst a "Sussex Smokey" was almost inedible. My own fish pie was very acceptable itself but lacked imagination in its presentation.

Good atmosphere and service and dogs are allowed in the bar at least but the food was a bit disappointing and overpriced in my view. My chicken, bacon and mushroom pie had too much creamy sauce and too little meat and mushroom. The chunks of meat were too small and too few. The chips lacked a crispy exterior. My wife's pork belly was ok but a expensive for what it was. The stick toffee pudding was good but a slightly bigger scoop of ice cream would have balanced the dish's sweetness.

With some (unwarranted as it turned out) trepidation, I booked for a party of 8 old friends on a Wednesday evening. We had a variety of Starters Mains and deserts and found the starters to be very filling with nice bread. The main courses were all well cooked and hot and came to the table within a few minutes of each other so we could all eat together. We pre ordered and there was a hitch with the email but all was sorted out quickly and with only one small glitch that was rectified immediately. We tried various deserts and the whole group was pleased with the standards of the food served. We found the attitude of the staff to be very friendly and the service efficient a huge contrast to my last two visits and a great improvement. I don't often leave a review but feel that this pub deserves one. We visited The Old Oak Inn after a day down at Cuckmere and were very impressed. The staff were very attentive and helpful especially in relation to my sons allergies. They went out of their way to find him a dinner that he could have which turned out to be chargrilled chicken and chips (he cannot have eggs, soya, milk, all dairy, nuts, seeds, so not an easy ask). On taking the order the lady serving us said that the chef has said he can have the chicken wrapped in bacon if would like .... my sons eyes lit up and of course he said yes. We have yet to find a desert that my son can have so are not in the habit of asking, but ..... the lady serving came out and said that they had found a sorbet that my son could have. Needless to say my son wants to return to this pub again. On another note, the 3 of us also had a lovely meal in lovely surroundings and they are dog friendly too. Full marks all round.

Have been a visitor to this place over the last ten years. Have finally written a review on this pub because it has declined over the last few years. When I first visited this place on a regular occasion ten years ago it had a regular clientele and a full bar at 5 pm. Since then it’s changed hands, the old bar crowd have slowly gone and the atmosphere has just, well, slowly evaporated. Now you visit it between 5-6 pm and there is hardly anyone there. The staff numbers can actually equal the customers.

Meeting friends for lunch you haven’t seen for a while should be in a cosy, nice environment (not smelly), with good food and service.

SO DISSAPOINTED So we booked a table for 6 and when we got there the table was pushed into a very tight space indeed, but when we told the barman he had arrange the move to a much more better table.the food however was cold and the prawn cocktail needing a dressing which we got. Please do not order the lamb unless you like it chewy, the Newhaven cod tasted like pre cooked in batter. After complaining in the other bar(so we didn't cause upset) we were told that the chef was different and so was the serving staff all they kept saying was sorry but sorry isn't good enough when we had guests.!! at our recomendations

Had lunch here today. Really nice menu and nice food, thought it was really reasonably priced too. Love this pub, open log fires and a well kept traditional country pub setting. Lovely to then stroll around the woods opposite. The young male waiter we had today was really polite and very good at his job.

Thought we would give the old oak a try as had heard there was a new chef, really wished we hadn't ordered two burgers and a child's chicken nuggets, the burger buns were burnt, burgers dry the chips were a horrible grey colour and very greasy picked out the better looking ones and left the rest, my son didn't enjoy the nuggets he said they were dry, nobody came and asked how the food was if they had I could of told them, I'm afraid we will never eat here again. Maybe the chef? needs to have some cooking lessons?

Set in the beautiful countryside of Arlington this pub and restaurant offers good food in a relaxed atmosphere. I visit when I can, the staff are friendly. In the bar you are allowed to bring in your dogs. Which is great as it's great walking country around the Oak Inn. Small playground area too. A nice touch is blankets, which are available on beautiful evenings, if sitting outside but it's a tad chilly. The food is good and the special board offers a yummy selection. It promises a great time for all.

Dreadful menu and terrible service. Menu was limited to say the least and they didn’t have what I wanted. Had breakfast there this morning and couldn’t have poached eggs only fried, reason being ‘we only have 1 chef’ ……a chef who can’t poach eggs!!!!

We were looking for a place to have coffee and cake after Michelham Priory house and garden visit. We discovered this lively and quirky tea garden. It was very busy with groups of families and friends. It was organised and provided a friendly service.

Being a bit of a Sunday roast connoisseur I’d heard good things about this pubs Sunday roasts! Booked it up (recommended) and had the three meat roast! Way too much for me BUT oh my god was it delicious. The meat was melt in mouth, Roasted potatoes just right, all homemade and with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve had. The gravy stole the show, it was delicious and I’d love to know how they made it taste sooooo good! 10/10 (my first ever) I’ll be back for sure!

I took my mum here for an afternoon tea for her birthday! It was the best afternoon tea we’ve ever had and our server Cody was amazing, very helpful! Thank you Cody for some of the best service we’ve ever had! Someone give him a promotion!
