Looks good from the outside and very traditional inside. The staff and regulars were very welcoming, the Craft beers fab and at £3 a pint so cheap. Loved the warm crackling too. Would have stayed far longer if I could. I only wish it was nearer to where I live!

We were there in Oct 2021, when takeover was about to happen. Pub bought from brewery. Cocky staff. One old face! One beer (IPA with no!) mega cloudy. Changed, eventually and one of old standard Acorns was rite! All doors open; easier for staff to go to cellar. But punters shivering! Heating off, so no surprise! Turners porkies on offer @ £1.40. That was food, plus crisps! Pie good. Not an Albert Hurst! He was maker in 70s.... Barnsley changes. I suppose that is life. Centre now bereft of real ale pubs except No. 7 and 2 Wetherspoons. That' life: I would have put it in French but spell gestapo will not let me!!!!

A nice pub in the centre of Barnsley, serving ales from Acorn brewery, plus a selction of others also on hand-pull & tinned craft beers. The old fashioned (a compliment!) wooden fixtures give the place plenty of character. A pleasant surprise was the Celtic music `session` that takes place from 1pm on Sundays and which provided some good music to go with the good ale.

My first visit, following a recommendation from a pal. What a find! A traditional pub, which is clean, friendly and serves a range of excellent ales. A group of us visited prior to Albion's game against Barnsley. We were welcomed by locals and staff. Fantastic hospitality. Super place and people. Looking forward to our next visit. A tiny suggestion: Crusty cobs - charge what you like. :)

The No7 is one of the best loved bars in Barnsley serving an excellent range of beers. It's a typical pub keeping old school charm, unfortunately the drinking up time isn't clear which led to an incident with the bouncer. I understood it was 20 minutes, if it isn't, can I suggest the No7 have last orders before 12. The surly bouncer doesn't fit with the image of the bar. My husband was also threatened with not being served in future by one of the female bar staff. It has put us off going in, luckily there are other real ale bars in Barnsley.

It was really easy to find this place- just a stone's throw from the Town Hall.I was excited to try beers from the local Acorn Brewery, this is their pub. The prices were great. The man behind the bar was friendly and attentive and some other pub-goers were having a bit of a jam session on their guitars, they were talented so it was really enjoyable!

WOW!! In Barnsley town centre, it's great to be somewhere that is a REAL pub with real ale and lovely people. Poseurs are really not in vogue in this place and everyone is their own person or dog!! Dogs that woof are also allowed in and really made to feel welcome!Great atmosphere with friendly staff. A wide array of ales from all over the world. They also have beer festivals with another bar set up in the cellar and regular live music sessions which are great (although sometimes there is a cost which is understandable but can be a deterrent)

So finally, Barnsley Harry gets to review somewhere in Barnsley! And of course it’s a pub! When I was a teenager back in the day, the Old No. 7 on Market Hill was a very thin pub. It was dark and had few customers. But its main draw was that they would serve you beer if you weren’t fully 18 years old yet. Things were a bit more lax in those days and if you didn’t cause any trouble, the landlord took an executive decision to serve you. They didn’t ask you to prove you were 25 or something ridiculous like they do today. PC gone mad. Anyway, back to the beer. This... is a real ale fancier’s heaven. Lots of choice, well kept and a landlady who will give you a sample of her beers without even having to ask. It’s an Acorn Brewery pub, so revamped Barnsley Bitter was on tap, but I went for Barnsley Gold, as I am especially fond of the light and hoppy taste. Come in on a Wednesday if you want a quiz night. So, I’ve had my pint, where shall I eat??? I’ll try “That’s Amore”, an Italian joint (no kidding, Sherlock) just round the corner on Shambles Street. Review to follow. G’night.
