Very friendly staff, excellent coffee (with lovely oat milk option), great gluten free brownies. A swap library for books and games! Airy, spacious room with a peaceful atmosphere. And when I was there (drum roll...) my carbon dioxide monitor registered 650ppm. For those not familiar with this, it means that the air quality is very good indeed. Up to 800ppm is excellent. For anyone who wants to avoid viral infections, or who just wants to breathe clean air, this is wonderful!

Went to the theatre at the Old Fire Station, so decided to use their cafe for pre-show drinks rather than venture into one of the packed pubs on George St. The cafe is a comfortable setup without any intrusive loud music. Perhaps a bit limited in terms of what they offer, but the wine we had (Rioja) was very acceptable for a theatre bar, and the staff were lovely. Went back for another glass in the interval to compensate for the shortcomings of the play...

Though a cafe, it’s run more like an activist hangout. Food was fresh and hot. It’s all vegetarian. No non veg options. Service takes sometime, even when it’s relatively empty.

We stopped in for lunch whilst on a break in Oxford and wish our own town had something similar! It's such a good cause, but it's a great cafe in it's own right. Very modern, comfortable and with great music. The food was absolutely delicious and very well priced, the gent who served us was very friendly and attentive, and there seemed to be a real community of customers in there, so the place felt very welcoming. We had a look at the exhibition in the gallery afterwards, there's some fantastic set designs. If a show had been on at their theatre we would have gone along to that as well. It's a real treasure of a place.

We were looking around for a place for lunch near the Ashmolean and found this cafe. The food is freshly prepared and very reasonably priced. The staff were efficient and friendly. I enjoyed the sausage sandwich and my friend enjoyed her soup. It supports a charity as well. It's warm and welcoming too.

We were very pleased with our lunch at the Old Fire Station. Soup of the day, beef nachos, and carrot cake were all freshly prepared. Service (at counter) was friendly and prompt. Total cost of under £12 represented an excellent value. Bonus: café is operated by a charity.

I visited the Old Fire Station this morning for a "Fireman's Breakfast". This place is a lovely place to be - I'm sampling every breakfast venue in Oxford. The cafe is spotless, the staff are wonderful, Next door, there's an art gallery and a shop full of the most beautiful things, right next to the uncovered Oxford market. The breakfast only cost seven quid, and that's very good value. The breakfast was kind of OK - generous amounts for the price. The eggs were slightly undercooked, and that's my only complaint aside from the fact the knives weren't quite sharp enough to cut through the lovely sausages and bacon.

It’s got a whole lot better over the years. Time was when it was little more than a charity cafe and shop. Now extensively enlarged and refurbished it boasts a small theatre as well as a cafe, shop selling a wide range of prints, scarves and clothing but also a mezzanine gallery currently showing an exhibition commemorating the struggles of the suffragettes but instead of depicting women throwing themselves in front of horses or participating in violent insurrection, it displays individual women in sedate poses at home doing nothing more strenuous or controversial than half raiding the odd hula hoop.

I love this venue! It has taken me by surprise by what it has to offer; the café, art exhibitions and large/airy rooms for a variety of functions. I used to attend gigs here when I was younger and overlooked many of the features and facilities it has to offer. It's right next to the bus station and in the heart of the city... As part of Oxford Folk Weekend, my partner and I stopped off here hoping to catch the John Spiers gig at midday. Upon walking up to the front desk and asking where to go, about five minutes before John was due to go on, we were told that the venue had been moved to St Barnabus' Church - on the other side of Oxford, about 20 minutes walk away. We were not informed of this, and the event was still advertised on the tickets and online as being in the Old Fire Station.Speaking to John later in the day, he had only found out about the venue change that morning as well; yet the venue staff seemed to have all known about it for quite some time. Disappointing neglect of information sharing there, folks.I'm also again left unsure as to why TripAdvisor lists this as a restaurant, when the attached cafe - next door - is also listed, and this is merely an arts centre.

The Old Fire Station is an arts venue with a Cafe. The cafe is run by the charity Crisis, offering on the job training for unemployed people. The food is fab and the service is great. There has been the odd occasion when we have been 'forgotton' but a quick nudge in the right direction got it sorted. There is plenty of selection for vegetarians, the last time I was in with my boyfriend we both had a cuppa, he had a sausage roll, which was a roll with sausage (it is different!), he loved it and I had a 'small' salad which meant I could chose 3 (I think 3) options, and it came with a 'normal' lettuce and tom. salad too - so the plate was heaving. We were both very happy with our lunch, and the total for two plates and 2 teas was just £9, a bargain in central Oxford I can tell you.Keep up the good work there.PS beware, not open Sundays - but if they are not open you can always nip round the corner to Gloucester Green, there is a van in the square that sells heavenly veggie Falafel, but that's another review...

The other lunchtime I really wanted a bacon sandwich. I traipsed around Oxford's identikit sandwich shops, being offered overpriced horrible microwaved paninis full of reheated "bacon bits", by staff who had absolutely no idea how to make a decent bacon sandwich and who looked at me like I was mad for asking for one.Thank goodness for the Old Fire Station. Here I was welcomed by cheerful staff who knew exactly what I wanted and offered me all the options I was looking for. My sandwich was made fresh in the kitchen behind the counter with generously thick slices of fresh bread, delicious crispy freshly-cooked bacon, and a decent dollop of brown sauce. The sandwich was carefully cut into halves, wrapped in greaseproof paper, and put in a cardboard box for me to take away.Total cost - three quid.Forget the blandishments of the chain sandwich stores littering Oxford and the empty promises on their blackboards. If you want the real deal - a proper fresh cooked piping hot bacon (or sausage) sandwich made with good ingredients - the Old Fire Station is your place.

There are a number of great artistic venues in Oxford and the Old Fire Station is a wonderful example of what is on offer. It is a partly a community arts space and there are many rooms upstairs devoted to providing artistic space to groups in the community but what I am focusing on here is the wonderful attractions on display to the public. There is an art exhibition space which hosts a different independent artist and their work for several weeks at a time. This gives them a nice amount of time for an exhibition but also ensures a high turn around of quality exhibitions over the year. Next to exhibition space is the gift shop for the centre, selling a variety of merchandise unique to the gallery and area. On the other side of the exhibition space is a roomy cafe which has a drinks license, which is handy for the main attraction of the centre, the Old Fire Station theatre. I have watched a couple of performances here and always been well satisfied with the quality of the productions. They don't try to compete with the big touring productions put on by the New Theatre up the street; instead as expected they are much more deep or well directed pieces at a much more affordable piece. If you fancy a nice independent theatre/arts venue, I certainly recommend the Old Fire Station. To find it merely search for the bus station in the centre of Oxford and you can't miss it. With the variety of culinary venues on the street, you can combine a meal before going to the Old Fire Station for a show.

Oxford's Old Fire Station provides for a number of needs. It's a theatre, an arts studio and a place for emerging artists to gain access to mentoring. But, beyond this - in collaboration with the charity Crisis, it offers a route out of homelessness for those who used to sleep on Oxford's streets. I regularly use the cafe and am never disappointed.

Lets start with the positives; the cafe was clean and the menu looked good. I'm afraid that's where the positives end.We ordered our food, having had to give the order 3 times! Two of the six meals came in a very short space of time. Brilliant we thought. 15 minutes later one more meal came. A jacket potato that had been sitting waiting to be brought to the table for quite some time. No apology or explanation for the delay was forthcoming - in fact the member of staff was down right due. When we asked if the sandwiches were on the way we were told he would go and find out - now either the member of staff was stupid or just didn't care because we sat andwatchedas he chatted in the kitchen with his colleagues/friends. A few minutes later he decided he better start making our sandwiches. 25 minutes after the first two meals arrived two lots of sandwiches were delivered to our table - again apology free! A further five minutes passed before we received the final item from our order! Absolutely disgusting. Call me old fashioned but when I go out to eat, regardless of where it is, Michelin star or humble cafe, there is an expectation that if we order together and indeed sit together that we will be able to eat together!?! Is this really too much to ask?! Not one of the 6 or 7 members of staff offered an apology or an explanation as to why they were finding it difficult to deliver our meals at the same time - politeness surely dictates that an apology is the appropriate course of action?! I would never recommend this establishment - not even to people I dislike!
