Wow, a spur of the moment decision and we were not disappointed. The outside may not look so inviting but inside is spotlessly clean, the service from Sha (hope the spelling of your name is correct) was exceptional and the food was totally delicious from the popadoms to the main curry dishes and everything inbetween. The food was flavoursome, tasty, authentic and really great. The four of us said the best Indian food we had all eaten in a good long while. Thank you! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to come again.

Appalling food and service. Popadoms were not fresh and had a slight mouldy taste, couldn't finish them. The lamb chops starter arrived promptly and my teeth ached trying to chew these lumps of fat sprinkled with curry powder on top. Meat madras arrived, lots of gravy with 2 small cubes of meat cut into 20 pieces. Tandouri mixed grill looked and sounded authentic, but was dry. Waiter was unfriendly. The worst Indian meal we have ever had anywhere in the world. A waste of money. Agree with the reviewer who said "wouldn't take their dog to eat here" zero stars had to put 1 just send.

I absolutely love Indian food , but this was possibly the worst takeaway I have ever had. It was inedible ! The chicken was so over cooked that you could not even chew it. The sauce was like water and the nann and rice was soggy and very undercooked. The whole dish was completely tasteless. When I rang to tell the Indian I could not consume the food and aired my disappointment , the man who answered was rude and dismissive. He would not address my complaint nor be apologetic. He refused to replace the order. This is shocking service, I would not recommend them and will certainly not be ordering from them again !

This was my first visit to this rather old fashioned restaurant on the edge of the town centre. The menu is the standard fare one would expect. The place looked rather tired and had few customers. I did not think the chicken was of the highest standard. There are far more interesting places to eat in Chichester (including some of the other Indian places)

Very cute little restaurant, I think approx 50 covers, the food was great. I am not a fan of coriander, so often when I order food without it, the curry is tasteless as the expectation of the fragrance from the coriander is the only flavours you expect, but they got it right. I could taste the turmeric and the cumin, I had a madras and they got the spices just right. The lamb chops were delicious. And the onion bahaji fresh. I would recommend the chilli cheese nan it was fantastic Service was also very good.

After seeing 4 green circles, we ordered while visiting Chichester. This is the worst Indian meal I have had. The food bland and tasteless, I'm not sure any spices were used. The food was very greasy. We had 4 different dishes; chicken rogan, chicken saag, chicken tikka masala and chicken tikka, not 1 dish had any flavour and the chicken was a very strange texture, certainly not fresh chicken. The garlic rice side I think was missing garlic. The ratio side was natural yoghurt with a few small pieces of cucumber. I do try not to give too much of a negative review but can not find anything positive about the food. If I'd of eaten in the restaurant I certainly would not have paid in full if at all. The delivery lady Gina was lovely. Maybe this was just a bad day for the restaurant but if not please review your recipes to avoid customer disappointment.

Ordered by phone and was advised to collect in half an hour. Walked some distance to do so and door was locked and no sign of life. Knocked loudly.... no reply. Called through slightly open window. Nothing. So - went elsewhere! Very negative experience. What a strange way to run a business! The place looked unkempt and there was no sign of any menu outside. Just a sign saying "we're open for table service, so curry (sic) on in". A joke, I suppose. But they were not open for table - /or any other kind of - service. Online, there is a notice saying they're open for table service from Monday July 20th. One thing wrong there - July 20th is not a Monday this year! Says it all.

Ordered food from here and it was greasy and tasteless. I'm quite shocked, considering the price point. I don't know if the food was microwaved or not, but the chicken was really hard and dry. All round quite unpleasant. It was the first time I have ordered from here and I can safely say that I won't be again. Here is a picture of the onion bhajis. How appealing...

This little gem of a place is our regular Indian eatery now and has been since lockdown. We used to go to another curry house in the city centre, but here the food is excellent consistently and so is the service, so why go anywhere else. The bombay potato is the best we've ever had. My favourite curry is their chicken madras as it is perfectly spiced and has a real rich savoury flavour. My wife's favourite is the chicken dansak, she just loves the sweetness and the texture of the lentils. I asked the guys tonight in the restaurant if they could make it a little hotter for her and now that is her regular dish, she loved it. Best one ever. I've read a couple of reviews about there being cheaper Indian restaurants in the area, there are, but not with the same quality. Thank you gentlemen, another extremely happy family here. Keep it up.

I came here a few years ago when I was working an event at Goodwood, and it was absolutely wonderful. They put up with us rocking up as a 20-top, having only booked a couple hours in advance and the food and service was fabulous.Cut to today - I finally found this gem again having forgotten where it was. I took my girlfriend and was nervous it wouldn't live up to my goodwood memory, but it was even better. A romantic little table for two, attentive, friendly service and the food was absolutely incredible. Great portions, great prices, great flavours. If it's not clear yet, I really like this restaurant.

Average at best, doesn't really come close to other curry houses in the area, a little expensive compared to most curry houses too and the quality is not on par with the price. I've had much better curry for half the price in Littlehampton and Portsmouth. With so much competition in the area you need to stand out and unfortunately my meal last night did not. Local advice: I seriously recommend Portsmouth for curry, you cannot beat the price for what you get over there.

We ate here but were disappointed at the temperature of the dishes. When we mentioned this to the waiter, it would appear to be due to 'health & safety' issues (the council/insurers have banned the food warmers) However, hot plates for the food to go on and stainless steel serving dishes may have helped to keep it hot. We were more disappointed with the waiters non-caring attitude, as the prices were not cheap. We will not return.

This is my first visit, but certainly will not be the last. Ordered a takeaway on a recommendation from a friend as our usual would be India Gate. I'm so pleased we gave it a go.Not only was the food piping hot when I'd driven back home, it was delicious. In fact, I was so impressed I phoned them back after eating it to thank them and pass on my regards to the chef.I had the Chicken Tikka Madras and my wife the the Chicken Dansak. The usual poppadoms and pickles etc and I had a keema nan. What I really liked in particular about the nan is it wasn't bright red food dyed meat and was just a really tasty well seasoned minced lamb. Delicious. Not sure what all the reviews are about with the moody waiter, the young lady who served me was very nice and polite and so were the two gentlemen who spoke to me and handed me my food. Thanks again everyone, (including the kitchen staff), keep up the good work. The fact the place was pretty much empty (on a Saturday night) was testament to what we experienced. The staff were helpful and attentive when needed, but not particularly engaging. There was distinct lack of atmosphere and ambience which really didn't help its cause. The food was below average, but in its favour the prices were low, which I think reflected fairly on what was actually served up. Wouldn't go again, unless I hear there's been a dramatic improvement in all areas.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant in hopes of a nice evening with a great service, we did not get this. We ordered poppadoms, not realising you would get one each, when in other Indian restaurants you usually get about four. The service wasn’t up to standard, barely any smiles. They didn’t ask how our food was at all during the stay. They were all bored looking and not very welcoming, we also felt very rushed as we were the only customers in the restaurant. The food however was very nice which was a shame because we don’t want to go back due to the service we experienced.

Called in early evening on Friday before August Bank Holiday. Very frosty welcome from the two waiters when we arrived. This attitude lasted the whole time we were there. Appeared to be the same to the other customers. Started with poppadoms which were served with only two pickles, we visit Indian restaurants regularly and usually are offered at least four. My husband was not pleased when the waiter without speaking just took the pickles away before we had finished the poppadoms. The prices that we were charged bore no resemblance to the takeaway prices posted outside. Ie Shaslick £7.95 we were charged £13.95. I realise the outside menu was takeaway prices, but extra £6.00 for sitting in the restaurant? I usually have a shaslick and have never been charged more than £9.95 at other restaurants. I assume they had inflated the prices as it was a Bank Holiday. The waiters did not acknowledge us when we left. We have usually found that the waiters in Indian Restaurants are very friendly and attentive but not here.

It was our 3rd attempt to get a table and were looking forward to our first curry in sometime. The menu was ok although nothing really exciting about it but that can often be a positive thing. There were a couple new to us and do picked those with the standard rice / veg/ naan. All (bar the Sizzler which seemed to live up to its name ,) were lacking in warmth. Not spices etc you understand just not warm. Even the main dishes were cool and I have never had virtually cold rice,/veg/ naan before and would not want to repeat the experience! The beer was the right temperature at least and the place itself was ok. Just very disappointed as we think the actual food would have been ok if only it had been served hot.

It all felt rather unloved. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. The Butter chicken was very nice but the lamb biryani rather tasteless.Drinks all good.Service sporadic. One member of staff looked like he badly needed a sleep - his whole demeanour was drab as if he couldn't care less about us enjoying ourselves but one of his colleagues was the exact opposite - engaged and caring. Already with this idea in mind I searched to write this review. The Old Cottage did not appear. It is not called Old Cottage Indian. And in there may lie the reason why this excellent food was not being appreciated by more. We stayed next door at The Chichester Inn and happened to stay on a Tuesday night when The Old Cottage had their weekly offer-any stater, any main, any side dish plus rice or nan at £12.95 with King Prawn plus £2. I am usually wary of these deals! The staff were very attentive although obviously with not enough to do! The food was freshly prepared and was really good quality and plentiful. My lamb starter was superb!By the time we left at around 2130 there had been 2 before us and a table of 7 who arrived about 2015. I think there is a marketing issue and the name may be the key. The Old Cottage is a quirky building but not obvious. At home there is The Old Forge- any clues? No, it is a fish restaurant!Good luck. Your food deserves more appreciation.

Totally enjoyable meal and all the dishes we ordered had there own character rather than being similar. Excellent house red wine for a value price. All staff attentive and friendly.

Well I think this was the first time the restaurant had catered for a large group and opened at lunchtime for this specific booking, All I can say is they did an excellent job, the Buffet selection and food quality was totally satisfactory and the service was very attentive ,,If you need to book a private lunch time function I would totally recommend the "Old Cottage Indian",, great food thank you very much.

The restaurant is quite cramped and very hot with no windows open and spot lights above each seat. The toilets were not very clean or well looked after and so small that reaching for the toilet paper set the hand drier off, when I was relaying this to my fellow diners the waiter overheard but misheard and interrupted saying hand dryer is on it's not off it is on!The food was like warm despite being served on plate warmers, the food was quite bland too. Some of the waiting staff were rude and miserable and were pacing up and down past our table while we ate.The starter plates were collected whilst one of our party of four was still eating and so the waiter hovered with the other plates and his hand out over the table whilst she finished her starter. The meal was reasonably priced but we won't be going back

I had trouble finding this restaurant because its actually right on a main road junction and being in an old cottage it does not leap out as being an Indian restaurant! It was however very good in terms of food. They need to fix their interior decor below one of the windows which looked as though building works were needed but otherwise it was great.

After reading so many good reviews I was seriously disappointed with the food. Tried a wide selection and everything was just tasteless. I think the chef forgot to put any Indian spices in the dishes we tried. Meat was too dry and chewy. The only good stuff was the mango chutney and Cucumber Raita. After eating lots of curry in Leicester (where it's v difficult not to get a good curry) I feel sorry for Chichester if the old cottage is the best it can offer. If you want a good curry in sussex go to Monsoon in Billingshurst.

I booked by email on Friday lunchtime, and had an email returned to say that I would get confirmation later. This still hadn't happened by the following lunchtime, so I left a message on the phone line to call me.The phone call or email was not returned, so a friend called and got through two hours before we wanted to eat.The service was very unfriendly, food was cold.It was very under seasoned too.Shame as I had takeaway from here a while ago and all was well. Will not be going back

This is a very good Indian restaurant, but they often let themselves down by serving the food a little cold. Partially my own fault since my dish took a long time whilst my wife's was easier. I get the feeling hers had been standing whilst my dish was completed. This has happened on several occasions. Other than that the food is good quality and very tasty

Having been a regular customer of this Indian restaurant, after last night I will never return nor will I continue to recommend to our friends. We were greeted by the front line staff and service at this point was good. However, when our food was presented and after what was only a couple of mouthfuls, our friend looked horrified and pointed at this big fly on his plate laying on the salad. It appeared to be dead laying upside down. We informed staff who went to get the manager. All of us at this point stopped eating our dinner. The manager then told us he cannot control the flies in the restaurant and at this point he went to touch the fly and to our horror it's legs moved, it was clearly dying as it just laid there. The manager gave no apology and said the fly had just landed on the plate. We entered hungry and wanted to relax and the managers attitude to this incident was shocking. We refused to pay for the food as no one at this point had the appetite to eat. He did not offer to replace the food neither. He simply said he will not charge for the salad dish. We tried to reason that his attitude is unacceptable and that the fly being in the food had put us of eating. However he went straight to the phone and called the police. We are all professional hard working adults who were at this point embarrassed when the police arrived within a minute. Like the police aren't busy enough! We explained the incident and the manager was still being verbally aggressive towards us. We informed the police that we were happy to pay for the poppadoms we had before our mains came to the table and also happy to pay for the wine. The police took our details and also clearly saw that the food had not been eaten and confirmed that they had seen the fly on the plate. We paid for the wine and poppadoms informing the manager that his behaviour and attitude was rude. The police were very good in dealing with the situation. This could have been dealt with more professionally with an apology from the manager but we were made to feel like criminals. Never again will we be returning, and in his own words "the customer is not always right". Sorry but on this occasion you were wrong. Very wrong!

The most terrible customer service by a manager Mr Mohammed Khan. Having found a living fly in our food, he angrily approached our table to say that it was almost our fault that the fly was there as it must have "dropped" into the food from the area by our table! We stopped eating all of our food and calmly said this was not acceptable and we would not pay. He then called the police! We are four professional people and his actions were one of sheer rudeness and desperation. Are the police not busy enough in Chichester on a Friday evening? Crazy. We had already agreed to pay for our drinks, which we had hardly touched. His actions and his manner were simply unacceptable and we will never eat in this restaurant again. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone and will report the hygiene of the kitchen to Chichester DC.

Not a huge restaurant. We didn't book and had to wait about 15 mins for a table, but that was fine. Our hotel recommended it and we were not disappointed.Reasonably priced drinks.Food looked and tasted fresh.Staff were polite and attentive. No idea on the parking situation (we walked from our hotel).Another couple were leaving at the same time as us, but they refused to pay for their food. They said that they didn't like it. BUT had they managed to eat it all though!!! It looked like they were just after a free meal...which they got. The couple (aged approx. 50) were definitely out of order. When I'm next in the area, I will definitely go to this restaurant again.

Usually get a takeaway but decided to eat in. Good atmosphere but seating is a bit cramped. I sat by a window which was very draughty so got quite cold. Will take a jumper next time! Food delicious and staff very friendly. Nice touch to serve complementary liqueur with coffee.

Three of us visited this wonderful Indian restaurant again and as always we were treated to a great meal with superb service. Thanks to Robin and his colleagues, this has to be the best curry house in Chichester.

I'll keep this short and sweet :) The positives:1. Lovely flavoured food2. Great menu. 3. Attentive staff able to make good recommendations for my children.4. We'll be going back! The criticisms:1. No high chairs 2. Food could have been hotter in temperature (and spice in some cases) ; however I suspect staff did not put a candle food warmer on our table due to our children so I can't really complain. 3. Decor a little dated

Awkward to park difficult to find but don't be put off. The food is very well cooked and the service is very pleasant. It is spotlessly clean and all the tables have table cloths and napkins. The staff have a good sense of humour and they treat you as if you were the only customer in the world. We have been here many times and never had a poor meal or even a cause to send anything back and believe me we are very fussy

I know the temperature had suddenly dropped today but I never feel the cold and this restaurant was freezing. It made the food luke warm. I am so glad I was not sitting near the front door where 2 ladies sat, they looked frozen with the door that just kept opening. Now for the positives, the food was of a good standard and the staff were friendly. Would I go back, yes. This restaurant is missing a trick, it has got to start doing deliveries the students will love it.

We have ordered from here a few times and food always been lovely unfortunately today we cannot say the same the lamb was dry and had no flavour to it the chicken tikka was really dry and some bits of the meat were grisly and had bone in it. Our naan bread was cold so we spent almost £50 for a meal we didn't eat.

Just got delivery from Coriander Leaf and not a bad word to say. Portion sizes were very generous and the food itself was lovely. Definitely recommend.
