Madhu Ban Tandoori Restaurant in Chichester

We have ordered from here a few times and food always been lovely unfortunately today we cannot say the same the lamb was dry and had no flavour to it the chicken tikka was really dry and some bits of the meat were grisly and had bone in it. Our naan bread was cold so we spent almost £50 for a meal we didn't eat.

Moin Greeted me with a smile and courtesy.. Took my order and was very professional, I even met the chef… Big smile very clean uniform. Tables clean , cool temperature in the restaurant, great environment 🤙..Cobra beer!!! Cold wet and delicious, REFRESHING!!! Order was ready in 20 min .. Hot was Hot, Cold was cold… Quickly freshly prepared!!! Clean take Away Delivery…. Thank you CHEF!!!!

AVOID !!! Hygiene issues !!! Heres a few things we noticed on my familys recent visit here - Carpet and seats so dirty theyve turned black through not being cleaned / cared for (the seats actually had brown/ black dirt marks) - Toilets are unusable with the brass handles thick with dirt and grime -Tiles in the toilet on the floor thick with dirt - dirty hand marks over doors - glasses stunk and had lipstick stains on through poor washing . Reported to environmental health due to the seriousness of these issues , if this is the front of house i certainly wouldn’t want to see the kitchen

First time in here for about 20 years and an excellent curry house great food and good service

We’ve visited this restaurant many times over the last 15 years and have always had an excellent experience. The food is delicious coupled with friendly service and is very reasonable price-wise. Would highly recommend !

Order from here for the first time wish I found them 2 years ago when we moved here the food was lovely and the service was good would highly recommend I would definitely not go to the Raj as there food is awful and service even worse

I recently called to reserve a table for four at your restaurant and was asked if we were Indian. After confirming, I was told there were no tables available. However, when we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty with no reserved signs. This made us feel discriminated against based on our ethnicity. If your restaurant does not welcome Asian patrons, how can it operate as an Indian restaurant?

I recently called to reserve a table for four at your restaurant and we heard that they were talking with each other that our party was Indian or any other. Upon confirming, I was told that there were no tables available. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, we noticed that it was almost empty, and there were no signs indicating that tables were reserved. This experience has left us feeling that we were discriminated against based on our ethnicity. We would appreciate that if all guests are treated fairly.

First visit and it won't be my last. Excellent varied menu. Welcome from staff and service was friendly, prompt and relaxed. Great food. Would recommend if you like Indian. Thank you

The food was very good, very ‘British Indian’ and traditional. The service was very good as well. But what most impressed us was their kindness. An elderly lady , clearly with mental health issues, came to the end of her meal but couldn’t pay. With no fuss whatsoever, they let her off her bill. It was discreet, not for show and humbling. Truly heartwarming, and I don’t mean the spices.

Nice food. Toilets are dreadful. Small , outdated and dirty. Always judging restaurants on toilets , this should be a 1 out of 5, but the food is good

Staying in the area, we decided to try this one. Plenty of free parking outside and a pleasant if not really stylish interior. Service was fine and attentive, not pushy. We had a standard choice to compare with others over the years - Tandoori Biryani, Jalfezi, Veg Curry, Saag Bhaji Poppadoms etc. All were very nice although the pickle tray with the poppadoms seemed a bit steep at £4. Otherwise good value and clean as expected.

Excellent food and service! Don’t believe the negative feedback as it really was absolutely excellent, the service was outstanding, and the driver called to let us know how long he would be, and on arrival we were over the moon with the food, albeit slightly apprehensive as there were some negative reviews on TripAdvisor, which I really do feel are unfounded as I don't understand how you could have some negative reviews in relation to this place when you ate the food that we had delivered.

On a Week's Vacation at West Wittering with my Wife, Wife's Mum & Sister. Asked a few locals what the Best Indian in East Wittering & they all said Madhu Ban. Ordered a selection of Curries Ect & was Extremely pleased with the Quality & Taste. The Staff were most pleasant & professional.

This is the Indian Restaurant from central casting. Completely familiar dishes, cooked well, served by friendly people, in a place that could only be an 'ethnic' eatery. And all at a price which seems about right.

We have used MADHU BARN for a few years, BUT we had a large takeaway order last weekend (£70+). The food was very average, tough chicken, dry side orders. Once I had paid I had forgotten to order a £2.50 dip, and yes they charged me for it!! There are plenty of other curry houses in the rea who in future will get our business.

Ordered a takeaway for 7. Ready in 40 minutes (quiet Monday). They accommodated our request to change a few ingredients with no quibble. Everyone was unanimous that the food was exceptional and generous. Also was piping hot. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Tandoori selection and excellent service! These guys are the best in terms of Indian and Bangla food and their service is next to none! Loved the food and will be back when I visit Chichester again!

This is one of those Indians restaurants that uses food colouring and thickner instead of real ingredients to save costs. Anyone who says this is good Indian is drunk or had their taste buds removed. My Butter Chicken had no tomato base or cream, it was a yellow brown slop and the chicken tasted odd. It was the first time in my life I didn't eat a dish and I'm 47. My son didnt eat his yellow slop Korma either.

Good food good service and reasonable price

Used this place many times over the years both eat in and takeaway. Always good. After a year break I ordered a takeaway of my favourite dish, chicken tikka roshni. Very disappointed. Chicken was dry and the masala was 50% chunks of onion and lacking any flavour. Onion bhajis were warmed up, not crispy as usual. Such a shame quality has nose dived.

I ordered our dinner at 7.24pm and was told our delivery would take 30 to 40 minutes. At 8.19pm I called to ask where our dinner was and how long it would take to be delivered. It was clear we had been forgotten and the guy on the phone said my delivery would be 10 minutes, he said “well depending on traffic”. We are in West Sussex on a Saturday evening, not the M25 on a Friday night, so I said “will it really be 10 minutes?” The tone of the call changed - “well if you’re not happy, I’ll refund you” “I’m happy as long as you’re able to deliver my order that I placed an hour ago”. “Well you’re clearly not, so I’ll give you a refund!”. End of conversation. Horrendous service. A bit later, I had a text and call from Syed (a manager) who asked for my card details. Nice guy. Extremely apologetic and pleasant. Shame about the first part of my experience. Maybe a one off, but I won’t be going back and won’t recommend to anyone.

Worst food. Ordered chicken Tikka masala. They served chicken mix with tomato sauce.

We ordered a 'platter' each and it arrived on a tray that looked like a school lunch. The curries were bland and disappointing. The staff were friendly though and the place seemed popular enough. Felt it was very over priced.

Rude staff, food didn’t taste good, wasn’t cooked well. Also fyi meat isn’t halal only chicken is.

The service was good and the table layout was nice. Unfortunately we ordered food. The platters came out on a stainless steel tray which felt like we’d ordered a school lunch. The main dishes had very little spice to them, quite bland and the dominant sweet taste detracted from the chicken.

Welcoming establishment with friendly staff. Clean and cosy with a variety of dishes on the menu. Was happy to accommodate my dietary needs. Food was tasty, hot and plentiful.

We ordered a takeaway for 11 people. The food turned up quickly, still hot and was great quality. Everyone said they really enjoyed the food and the team I spoke to were a delight to deal with. We would recomend.

Went to the restaurant on a cold wintry night for the first visit . The restaurant has been open for many years here right in the centre of the village . Parking is easy as long as it’s not summer with the influx of tourists here . The restaurant is small and cosy and we were served quickly . My partner had the tikka mixed grill which he loved and I had the chicken Pathia , a sweet spicy dish with keema rice . We had spinach and cheese which is lovely , with naan breads . The portion sizes are good and well priced . It’s a good idea to book a table . Staff friendly and professional .

I can't understand why this curry house has received a couple of poor reviews as our family has been going here for years and we have always recommended it to all our friends. The food is delicious and always freshly cooked. The staff are friendly and helpful. We will continue to make this our local curry house and continue to recommend to others.

It was empty when we arrived. So seated quickly, the service was a little slow given there was no one in there, although another 3 tables were occupied during our meal, but still very empty. The food was nice and tasty and good portion sizes. A nice typical Indian meal in England.

Good food, nice service. Just the 2 of us on hols. The place itself could have been a bit cleaner but the glasses, linen napkins etc were clean.... just the seats, walls and bathrooms need a good do-over/revamp. Food and service good though! Thanks!

We had a tasty takeaway from here for us and our children. On the way to East Wittering beach we'd been handed a menu by someone advertising this restaurant and then when sat on the beach they came up again and attempted to give us a second leaflet. This eager advertising made me a bit cautious - I was worried locals may not be using it. But we took a chance and we were happy we did. We had a lamb Nagar, a chicken korma, sag paneer and onion bhajis. It was all very tasty. I think the korma may have had more sugar than we're used to and the sag paneer had really melty cheese which we enjoyed but didn't seem traditional. (We found the menu confused/confusing in places and would recommend they get someone to check over and edit it before they get it printed again.)

Eaten here a few times lately. Food was very good to be fair. Only thing that disappointed was that the 2 tables that asked for their bill before us, were offered a complimentary drink but this courtesy was not extended to us. We would have politely declined anyway but the staff should have offered in order to be seen to treat all customers equally.

Yet another tour de force, creamy Kormas and perfect Madras paired with fragrant spiced vegetable rice. Pillowy yeasty Naan breads all washed down with chilled Bangla beer. It does not get better than this. The service was a nice balance of attentive and unobtrusive. Great value too. Cannot praise this highly enough.

I ordered a curry to be delivered to a rented house in Birdham which 11 of us were staying at. I spoke to Milu as I wasn’t sure to go for 2 large curries or individual meals. Milu was helpful and friendly and actually delivered...

We visited last night, specially booked as we are staying at Wick Farm. The whole meal, starters, curries,sides and breads was faultless. The staff are attentive, without being obtrusive. Wonderful atmosphere inside, warm, jolly and a fully enjoyable time. We were stuffed to the gills...

A great friendly atmosphere! The staff were lovely and the locals chatty. The food was also first rate Indian, we had a chicken balti and a chicken tikka masala - a neighbouring table had a lamb platter which looked good too! Would definitely recommend

Delicious dansak and balti tonight at the Madhu Ban - some of the best we’ve had. Really friendly waiting staff too. Will definitely come back again.

Tried this as a takeaway on the last night of our first stay in our new holiday home. Always compare any Indian with our local that we have used for 30 years. This experience was as good and we look forward to many more visits.

My husband & I had an amazing curry, so tasty, full of flavour & fresh, couldn’t fault it & very reasonably priced.

Do not go! Rude manager and scruffy workers. NO TRACK AND TRACE in operation and no social distancing. I have eaten in the restaurant where I was left to wait nearly 2 hours for food where I witnessed him tell another table to leave because they had been there too long! I have had take away and was told 15 mins and took over an hour! When we eventually got our food there was items missing and I was called a liar for what I had ordered.

From the initial warm, friendly welcome to the final goodbye this is one of the best Tandoori's we've eaten in. Humble decor masks an extensive menu with some of their own specialities coupled with the usual old favourites gives plenty of choices for every taste....

We are local and visit the restaurant a few times a year, not enough really but we do have meals here and also order take always from the restaurant, the food is excellent and is consistent in flavour and taste no matter the time delay...

One of the best lamb madras’s I’ve had. The platter is the way to go for couples/dates. It does come on a large metal dish but it has everything you need for a meal. I’ve only had one nicer madras in my life!

Had a lovely curry from here we ordered a large takeaway meal and have to say the food was excellent with decent size portions particularly the rice dishes they are huge. My pathia was superb I asked for it madras hot and they made it perfectly. Three out of the four of us found the food excellent and the fourth person enjoyed his actually curry and all the other dishes but found his lamb rather tough and difficult to eat that the reason for the 4star review rather than 5. However the rest of us had chicken tikka curry’s and they were excellent and very tasty. We had all the sides like naan and potato sides etc and some starters again all tasted lovely! We would definitely recommend this curry house but please work on the lamb!

Very friendly, lovely food. Couple of good vegetarian options and tasty barn bread.

Been using (and recommending) this place for many years as we have always had super experiences. Tonight, however, we wondered what had happened. We went in and ordered a take away. Despite the usual fabulous and friendly service, the food (dhansak, madras, sheek, various veg/rice/naan etc) was very disappointing. The chicken all tasted as though it was precooked and dropped into bland and flavourless sauce and was tough/dry. The sheek was so hard that when cut with a knife, it literally flew off the plate! She picked up the second one and could barely bite through it. The rice was overcooked and soggy and the keema naan had a waxy taste and texture. Veg was ALL swimming in oil. As said above, this is REALLY UNUSUAL for this, our usual ‘go to’ Indian restaurant!! No idea what happened and hope this review gives a wake up nudge! However, we will not be having any Indian food for a while and will not return to Madhu Ban for a long while, sadly.

We were very well looked after at Madhu Ban when we took a group of 7 recently. They were able to accommodate us at very short notice and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We had a selection of dishes between us and they were all thoroughly enjoyed!

First time using this takeaway. Four of us eating four different dishes. Food was hot and very very nice. Will def use again.

Staying down here for a couple of nights and chose Madhu Ban over the other local curry houses. I think they actually seemed busier but we were very happy with our food choices. Only slightly odd thing was the mango chutney was more like Mango juice in consistency but other than that this was a nice meal

Fast efficient service. Reasonable prices. Lovely food. Clean, tasty and loved by everyone. We had the korma, balti's and egg fried rice along with various nan breads. No complaints.

We have used this restaurant many times for takeaways but recently we have been disappointed with the quality of the food, ordered 3 different dishes but they all were identical when opened save for a few bits of tomato thrown on the top and not at all nice, strange texture. Sag aloo was just boiled potatoes and the smallest amount of spinach no spices or anything. The whole meal was bland and expensive for what it was. Was the chef off sick?!
