Lovely afternoon dinner and drinks before the Kirkwell ferry.

Great restaurant with a great choice of pub food. Staff were first hand, and a great selection of drinks. Reasonably price food also

Paul and bethany was amazing, quick to serve and very attentive, food was lovely. Will be back! Prices resonable!

Went in on Thursday night after a nearby bar closed for one more and they had live music, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Not sure how I’ve missed it in all my years in Aberdeen! Will be back ☺️

Came in after watching a show at the Arts centre. Quite quiet for a Saturday night. My daughter, who was in the show, arrived to drive us home. She was very thirsty after her performance at the show so I tried to get her a coke but was refused as she was not quite 18. They also refused to serve us adults again because there was a 17 year old amongst us. Strange policy! Now I know why it was so quiet, they're refusing to serve legitimate customers!

What an amazing meal at Old Blackfriars. We each had sharing plates (3 dishes each) and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the honey and mustard sausages. Portion sizes are large and staff kindly provided a take away bag for our leftovers. Service was friendly and attentive by Jamie and Chris. We will definitely visit again when back in Aberdeen. 100% recommended.

Hadn't eaten here for a while and might not rush back, food was disappointing, the chicken breast in the Balmoral chicken was pathetic, so small and would have been dry had it not been smothered in sauce. Chips were good. Coleslaw in daughter's burger was really acidic, just tasted like vinegar. On the plus the waitress was really helpful and friendly.

Went here for a group dinner, the food was very nice, service was amazing, good size portions, affordable food. Great location. Decent cleanliness. I would definitly return here. Only down side is the menu is quite small, not alot of food choices.

Wir haben heute spontan das Old Black Friars in Aberdeen besucht. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Unsere Kellner Jamie und Chris waren super aufmerksam. Jeden Donnerstag kommen im Old Black Friars Musiker zusammen um traditionelle schottische Musik zu spielen. Wir haben Glück gehabt und ein Paar Musikern an einem Montag beim proben zuhören können. Ein Besuch ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Just in for a pint. The missus said it was the best pint of Guinness she has had in mainland UK ... she should know - the number of Guinness's she has knocked back 😂

Magic wee pub. We couldn't get a table as every one was taken with people dining. We had booked somewhere else for dinner, but it's still great to get a seat. Well , we didn't have long to wait. The Manageress offered us a table that had just vacated, even though she knew we weren't going to be dining there. Customer relations at their finest !. On leaving, we thanked her for her help & said we would definitely be back for food next time we were out in Aberdeen.

We enjoyed a lovely meal with good beer and excellent service. Explained to the waitress we had a train to catch, and she made sure we were able to get it. We will be back.

Food review. Unfortunately some items we weren’t available on menu, and after changing my original choice I was later approached to say they couldn’t fulfil my choice in full. For what we got, the bill was fairly steep for a couple of sandwiches & chips. Good place for a pint, wouldnt come back for the grub.

It was very busy when we visited but the staff coped admirably. The food was good and there was a wide selection of drinks. A nice place in a very central location.

Finished 3weeks away at sea went for drinks 2 full pints slid of table told bar staff what had happened and she informed us that the table was wonky and that they knew about the problem and was then asked to leave totally disgusted bad attitude from staff

I came in for a settler after a frustrating day. Wasn’t sure which drinks to have , so asked the barman what was local , as who want to drink Moreti, was offer not one not two but three shots of local lagers and ales. Very nice , settled on the Belhaven Best. Very nice. Did the trick.

Absolutely a wonderful pub and bursting to the seams with history. A few changes since my last visit but still a great pub. Most definitely calling in again on my next visit to Aberdeen.

Popped in for lunch. Had the cheese toastie and chicken and bacon sandwich with fries. Perfect hospitality from Chris-his compassion when dealing with a regular customer who fell over was second to none. Would definitely return if visiting Aberdeen again.

This was a great evening at the Old Blackfriars. I'm not usually the one to go out to such places with friends, but they convinced me. The drinks were absolutely great, the atmosphere that time with the live music and dancing - amazing. The "old" and "worn down" vibe at this place - I absolutely loved it. The young and moody barman who rolled his eyes at everyone who wanted to order drinks - even added more up to the atmosphere and didn't ruin anything at all. In fact I really enjoyed it.

Excellent food today, my smoked mushroom chilli was very tasty. The service was second to none, thanks Amy!

Great place and two of the most unbelievably helpful staff we encountered on our trip to Scotland. Had haggis and they gave great recommendations for the rest of our stay.

My friends and i had a very pleasant time when went together for our iChristmas meal.The Old Black Friars staff were with very pleasant and also the food was lovely.

Great service and good standard pub food. Very impressed with how they supported a child at next table with ordering with a gluten allergy. Lovely touch with good quality crackers. A cosy spot to hide from the last minute festive shoppers.

What a lovely wee pub, amazing food from the festive menu and a waitress worth her weight in gold. Quinn was so attentive and handled herself so well whilst having to deal with a table of very rude customers sat next to us. Quinn stayed professional throughout our stay and gave us excellent service whilst under a lot of pressure from a very angry table of six! Well done Quinn!

Lovely service from Quinn who got us a table even though they were very busy on 16/12/23 and didnt have any at that moment in time, 10mins wait, taken to table, cocktails flowed and the food was brilliant. Staff couldn't have been nicer,helpful and anymore kind to us. Will deffo be returning soon. Thanks for making a Christmas catch up fab👍

Booked into Old Blackfriars for a meal before heading off to a concert and we were not disappointed! The pub was so welcoming, cosy and full of festive cheer that we decided to choose the Festive Rarebit Burger and Vegan Festive Burger options to get us into the Christmas spirit. You have GOT to head along to Old Blackfriars to try these meals as they were delicious. Absolutely perfect! There were so many tempting options on the menu so we will have to head back soon to try something else next time. Charlie, the Manager, and his team looked after us so well during our visit. Thanks guys! Will definitely be back....soon!

Steak pie was barely warm ,food tasted quite good but spoilt as it wasnt hot.only thing hot on plate was frozen chips .Not what we expected at all.Staff were very apologetic about 45 minute wait for food,but its a long wait when you pre booked. Was steak in a piece of pastry .Definately not what I would call steak pie.Very nice staff ,doing their best

What a great atmosphere, great service, great drinks and a great live act; been here numerous times and always a good time. What's not to like?

Eleven of us booked for the night- everyting was pre-ordered -meals come out randomly. Food was average. Because of the wait for mains decided to skip the desserts. All in all a pretty poor show. Waited for two meals -everyone else had finished. Would we go back - possibly if there was only a table for two. Obviously the kitchen staff couldn’t Cope. Such a shame and so disapppointing.

Been before and I liked the place this time I stood by the "wait here to be seated" sign for over 5 mins, a guy at the end of the bar was cleaning glasses - he glanced my way a few times In the end I walked out and went to their sister site the old boar.

Very welcoming pub with authentic architecture a Nd comfortable seating and great food. The publican was so friendly and helpful. Gave us lots of suggestions on what to do around Aberdeen and very knowledgeable about Scottish/Aberbeen history. The food was delicious. We hade a pretzel with beer cheese sauce, sausage rolls and battered haddock. So yummy 😋🤤😋

I walked in with my dog and friend. We were welcomed by a lovely staff member (sorry didn't get her name). We were informed the dog was welcome in most of the bar. She came back to see the pup and we were made to feel very welcome. A very good experience. Well done

Das Essen war gut, die Cocktails waren auch gut. Aber der Service leider überhaupt nicht. Die Kellnerin hat uns die gesamte Zeit ignoriert. Schade hätten gerne mehr getrunken und noch Nachtisch gegessen. Aber hier möchte jemand kein Geld verdienen.

Good pubfood and great atmosphere. Very friendly and service oriented staff. Be sure to visit on a thursday night when local folk musicians gather to play. Highly recommended.

We stopped in at Black Friar’s for a quick drink and to figure out walking tour plans on a Sunday. Our server Quinn was over the top helpful in helping us with excellent food and drink choices and even giving us tourist information for Aberdeen, and found us some ideas for Sunday tours which were mostly closed. Thank you Quinn!

Excellent service Excellent food Excellent prices. A cosy atmosphere with lovely homecooked food. From ordering to food on the table takes about 10 minutes and food is piping hot. Friendly staff especially nikki who works endlessly to accommodate your needs and always with a smile on her face. And to the chef who cooks the lovely food. The toilets are spotless clean and i recommend this establishment to anyone who visits our beautiful city ❤️

My friends and I were away for the weekend and we had a great time here on Sat 14th October for lunch. We met here to catch up with my son who just started university and had a great afternoon catching up. Loved the food and service. We stayed much longer than intended mainly due to the server who was brilliant. Apologies as I have forgotten her name but she looked after us so well. Thank you so much & hopefully be back next time we are over.

Came in for the football and was met with kind staff right away, pints were quality a shame about the score. Lass with the piercings went above and beyond. Will be back!

Awful food ! Ordered a meal and bottle of white wine, waitress attempted to give warm in a bucket of ice . Most food over cooked, table not clean. Grumpy uninterested staff. Was some live music which was fun.

I'm a Guinness fan and this place was a must for me. The decor of the place is stunning - as for this type of bars, it is very clean and all the tables and furniture are as new. Friendly service and delicious beer.

Food was decent but portion sizes aren’t great. Both of us ordered mushy peas, which were served in a separate container. However, one was half full and the other about a quarter full, meaning you get about a spoonful. Not really the cheapest place. We also waited over an hour after we ordered but the waitress did apologise for our wait.

I visited the place twice within a week with colleagues while we were in Aberdeen for a conference. Both times were great: great food, fantastic service. Particularly the waitress was absolutely amazing. The second time we visited, there was an accident or some sort, with ambulances arriving (do not know exactly what happened, and that is not the important part either) - the waitress (whose name I unfortunately never got) was an absolute rockstar. Keeping up with orders going out to the tables, while dealing with the situation - and at the same time being so incredibly nice. When we asked if she was okay, she sounded more worried about her manager than herself. This lovely woman deserves a bonus, a raise, a vacation - something! Absolutely recommend. Tried the katsu chicken burger and the fish n’ chips, and both were amazing.

Old Blackfriars is a lovely traditional pub with a good ambiance. We had been before but not for some time and decided to book a table for dinner one Saturday night. You need to book a table as we noticed they were not taking any "walk-ins" as they say they have a small kitchen. The servers were friendly and efficient and we had a very good pub meal. I think the selection of puddings could be improved but overall this was a very good experience.

One of the best places to have your coffee . If you are interested in football you can as well watch your favorite team but you have to reserve before for it is fully booked you also can have lunch or dinner prises are reasonable

Look, I really like this place and usually meet friends here after football. We only have drinks but - A: It's expensive compared with surrounding "normal" pubs B: Bar staff are easily overwhelmed when busy and service can be slow.

A friendly wee traditional pub where Guinness, my assistance dog and I were made most welcome. A real treat, when so many pubs in the centre of Aberdeen are either dog 'phobic' or just tolerant of assistance dogs.

Excellent sharing food. We’re impressed that we got this quality taste experience in what looks like a regular cosy pub. We had the Karaage Sticky Chicken, Houmous w/ flat bread and the Crispy Battered Haddock Goujons. The three sharing portion dishes were perfect together. And...

I often go to Old Blackfriars with my fiends. The food, staff, price of drinks and atmosphere is great. We can sit for hours catching up in the place. My favourite dishes are fish and chips and Katsu chicken burger. I highly recommend the pub. If you've not been yet, it is a must!

Myself and my partner visited here on 10/06/2023 for some food and drink. We waited over 40 minutes for our food to arrive we did not receive an apolgy or any sort of compensation for the lateness of our food.

Don't mind being told of delay to getting menu but to wait twenty five minutes then watch the table next door arrive and be given menus and then hear they are not doing anymore walk ins decided else where was better
