Okka in St Albans

Very nice place for brunch. Good choice of the menu. Staff very friendly. Was very busy and buzzy and we had choice of sitting in or out under the heaters

Went here with mates for a Saturday night, have been loads of times for breakfast, strange the place was not busy, think it must be under new management. We ordered two steaks and a lamb dish, meals came out, took ages to bring the chips out, then the steaks were cooked wrong, they took them back. Finally the chips arrived, my mates decided it to have the steaks, as it had taken so long. Told them and they were insisting they have them. They wouldn’t be charged. When the bill came, they had over charged us for the chips, when we asked, they said we would take them off. Overall terrible experience. Such a shame as this place used to be amazing

We headed out for a late lunch in harpenden feeling hopeful for a nice meal unfortunately we were given food that you wouldn’t even get in a back street cafe. Dry, very small portion of lamb ‘skewers’ that could have been cooked on a tooth pick. Frozen chips that were not cooked properly. My other half chose the overcooked steak that was like an Aldi pork chop with peppercorn sauce that had seen better days. My little boy chose the children’s chicken goujons that were over cooked and horrible with a size of frozen under cooked chips. The entire meal was disappointing and we had to make food when we got in as we were still hungry. The bill came out £60 and I said to the young waiter no fault of his own I’m sorry but the food was terrible so the manager told him to tell us he took £15 off the bill. The manager didn’t come over to us to talk himself. We left feeling disappointed, awkward and hungry! Never again.

Went early doors yesterday with a friend having heard good things. They’d run out of babaganoush so offered us extra hummus for our 3 dip shared starter. My friend had lamb tava, said the sauce was fantastic but the lamb hadn’t been marinated, was just about cooked and yet still a bit tough. I tried a piece and had to agree. I had steak salad - it was ok. We told the waitress (who was lovely and couldn’t be more helpful) about the lamb and she apologised. We paid and left but sadly won’t be returning. Only ones on there bar a few others at 5.30pm on a Friday - wanted to try something different but this food experience forced you to stick with what you know.

The welcome and service was fantastic. Had the full English and it was very nice but my poached egg was not runny. My father-in-law’s were cooked perfectly. Bit disappointed really. Otherwise very good.

Breakfast was served lukewarm. A shame. They have a nice restaurant and do use good quality ingredients. Prices are a bit expensive but you get what you pay for and expect that I. Harpenden. Shame they need to put more emphasis on getting the good out whilst it’s hot.

Great relaxed place to eat, amazing service. Good vibes - a nice mix of couples, families, friends. And great food. Courgette fritters were amazing!

My omelette was good but coffee could have been stronger. My main criticism is that this restaurant really can’t cater for gluten free. The waiter who served us was also cocky to my partner which isn’t acceptable.

Beautifully refurbished. Hadn't been here for over a year. Had an early dinner. Humous, lamb stuffed Aubergine delicious. Lovely service. Abd we felt good value.

We had a very pleasant lunch . Service was excellent and the portions very generous . Started with brochetta for one and Greek salad . We then had the lamb . Again very tasty . The chips were outstanding . Reasonably priced and a pleasant glass of red wine

Came with friends on a Thursday night not being aware of the bottomless dinner option and it was fantastic!! Really good food and fantastic value for money! Likes it so much we went back for breakfast the next day. Really good fresh tasting food. Great service. 10/10

Myself and group of friends go here for a breakfast every other weekend and always had good food. Not sure if this had a change of ownership but this visit was appalling. Food was cold when it arrived and not just mine but for all of us. I had the eggs benedict so did my friend and nothing was good. Poached egged was cooked completely, sauce felt like it was out of the jar and the muffins not toasted.

I’ve been a fan here for a long time but today I have been so disappointed. We waited 30 mins before our drinks order was taken. The waiter refused to make a change to a menu item to accommodate my vegetarian requirements. Even though all I asked for was to swap a regular sausage for a veggie one (which appeared on the menu elsewhere). He told me to pick something else. Then when he brought the bill and we asked to split it 50/50 he demanded we tell him how much. Easy enough for us to do the maths but his manner was so rude. Really quite upset as I was so fond of this place

We were recommended by friends to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. We sat opposite the kitchen, so we saw all the food coming out. Everything looked delicious and was so beautifully presented. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to return!!

Okka is a great spot breakfrast, brunch, lunch or dinner. We came here for a late breakfast last Sunday and were very happy with the food we received and the service was also very good. It's not mind-blowing exceptional but it's good food, good coffee and well-run.

I have only been here twice, once for brunch and then again today for lunch… both times were excellent! Nice gluten free selection and the staff are friendly and kind :) completely recommend! Great place for breakfast in Harpenden. Good range of options, with a Turkish twist. I’ve previously had the delicious posh mushrooms on toast and my friend had the Mediterranean breakfast; today I had fresh tomatoes with mint and onions and Turkish sausage and scrambled eggs, which was excellent. Service is friendly and prices are OK (£11 for my choice plus £3 for a large cappuccino).

Have been many times and the food has always been lovely but yesterday we were very disappointed. Staff not interested in serving wandering around aimlessly. Food no where near up to the normal standard. Eggs were hard and Eggs royale was very poor.

Today we visited the restaurant for lunch to celebrate a work colleague's birthday. This was our experience:. We arrived to find the table we had booked had been given to another party so there was a delay in us being seated. We were offered prosecco by way of compensation but it never arrived.. It soon became clear that the restaurant manager was focused on flirting with the young attractive female member of our group and ignored the others.. The service was slow however the food was ok.. When we paid, the restaurant manager returned to the table and offered cake to the our friend whose birthday it was; we jokingly said 'we also like cake'. The restaurant manager's response was: 'Excuse me, was I talking to you?' This curt, and condescending response took us all by surprise.As paying customers we deserve to be treated with respect, something that has obviously passed him by. We will not be booking this restaurant again and suggest that he be booked on a 'customer services course'.

Great food and service. A good selection to choose from without being overwhelming. Marked down 1 star as drinks seemed a tad expensive.

Dropped in today for lunch on our way back from Hythe to Warwickshire, we both ordered steak baguette and it was just lovely, the staff were very attentive and friendly, they couldn’t have been nicer, when passing through this is a definite stop over for lunch and I would recommend it to anyone

We stopped by for an unplanned brunch yesterday and sat outside to catch some of the last of the summer warmth. Extensive brunch menu made it hard to choose but highly recommend the Bubble & Squeak with poached eggs - delicious - as was the coffee. Staff incredibly attentive and want to shout out to Lumi who looked after us and was a delight - thank you! We will be returning to try out the other menu choices!

Food is always good when we visit, however this time we felt there were too many staff standing around , felt claustrophobic. The staff were talking around our table and looked lost. There was one young waitress that was doing everything, she was very good!!

A really nice relaxed and family-friendly brunch spot in the centre of Harpenden. Will return again soon.

It was a rainy Friday and our daughter was visiting so we treated ourselves to breakfast out. We had the Mediterranean, vegan and English breakfasts. With the exception of the fried eggs which were hard, the breakfasts were delicious and generous. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Had a takeaway yesterday and the lamb chops were fantastic, the rice is spot on and the portions are generous. Definitely recommend.

The waitress was very smiley and friendly and gave us great food recommendations! Would definitely come back! I think her name was Hannah.

Lovely friendly little restaurant with excellent food. I had the fish cakes which were really tasty. I’m coeliac and there were quite a few gluten free options and the chips were gluten free and also very good. They came with a delicious green dip. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. I thoroughly recommend this place!

This place is fast becoming my favourite place to stop by everytime i go to my house in London after my flight to Luton airport. Today i had the eggs benedict which was simply amazing. Then i tried their Pancake.As always amazing service by the staff and clean restaurant as its always been. Thank you once again guys

Popped in for supper and had a wonderful meal. The meze (hummus and babaganoush) was first rate with piping hot pittas and the mains (ribeye and a steak salad) were cooked perfectly and delicious. Okka is an excellent place for a meal, whatever the time of day. Breakfasts are also fab.

Lovely food with a wide variety to choose from. Always friendly staff and a very cosy atmosphere. Love meeting up with friends there.

We came at 12:30 for brunch, ordered within 5 mins. After over an hour no food had arrived, we had not been told they were busy, not had anyone came over to say things are running behind or offer us drinks etc. Eventually thinking it was farsical and wondering whether our order had been forgotten we went up to complain and were told food was coming now... No apologies! The food did come bad was not well prepared (half cold). It was just egg and toast type stuff so shouldn't have taken more than ten mins. Nobody CE to check was ok, the service was terrible throughout, and after all this they chargers £30 for a very disappointing and stressful experience. Not even the hint of a free drink!

Just had lunch at Okka. The fish cakes were not very nice. They had been fried for way too long, so were burnt and tasted of oil with no real fish taste at all. Very disappointed. Mentioned this to the waitress and got no response.

My friend and I wanted coffee and a cake at 3pm yesterday. We were not welcomed because you were only allowed to have lunch (eat out to help out) the restaurant was 75% empty.....the waitress had a bad unfriendly attitude. If it was lunch/dinner time I would understand. Needless to say we took out business elsewhere.

Friendly, cafe/restaurant, independently owned in Harpenden. Decent food - the half chicken is tasty and juicy.

We took advantage of the discount and had an Okka lunch. We’re local but haven’t eaten here for a while. So glad we did as it was a really enjoyable occasion. Couldn’t fault it in anyway. From the welcome and to table service, the staff were helpful and friendly. All the correct hygiene measures were in place and they seemed to be on top of their game in managing this new way of dining.We’re vegan but had no problem with their menu, unlike most other local restaurants where the choices are much more limited. There seemed to be plenty of choices for the other diets too. Coffee was superb and the never ending bottled water was a nice touch.We have promised to come back soon to try the evening menu.

I had a really lovely experience, the waitress was really lovely and helpful. It has a lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious!

Had a great evening meal thanks to the guys at Okka. I had ordered the meze platter for starters and the Lamb skewer and lamb cutlets which is never a dissapointment. It felt really good during the pandemic and my order was early unlike other places. Keep up the good work guys. By far the best in Harpenden.

Our take-away was ready at the time we specified and we enjoyed eating it. The lamb's liver and lamb shish had plenty of meat and good salad etc. It was all well cooked and packed. I was slightly disappointed that there didn't appear to be any desserts on their take-away menu, but the starters and mains were fine. It's not the cheapest take-away in the area, but quite good value.

We booked the whole restaurant for a family party (adult) and were delighted with the whole evening. Derik was very accommodating, in terms of timings, menu and our desire to dance! We chose freely from the menu and everyone was very pleased with their choice of meal. Thank you for a great evening.

Very good service, food very average. Main courses - lamb shisha worsting I think Ive ever had. Tough, gristly, dry, ... Sausage rather dull & boring. Better for Breakfast/ brunch than dinner.

Properly the best place ever in harpenden. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The food is absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be back.

I like this place but it lets itself down by the less than attentive and less than friendly staff. The toilets need attention and regular cleaning. Food is good but as I said there needs to be more attention to detail. Disappointed.

I went to Okka for lunch my self and I have seen their brunch menu it was looking great staff but I had gluten free Lamb Tava, it was delicious and right amount of chilli and staff in it. Staff were very friendly and helpful also very good coffee. Next time I will try their brunch menu.

My husband, friends, family and I use this restaurant frequently and whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner the food, service and atmosphere is exceptional. Deniz, Mae and Hannah always go out of their way to make us welcome.

I have eaten at Okka lots of times and I can say I’ve never enjoyed food more! They pay attention to details and there are so many different styles on the menu whether you’re peckish or starving . The staff are always incredible and you are looked after extremely well. I will always come back to Okka for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Dinner date post Christmas. The restaurant was empty, we had the placevto ourselves. Consequently the service was impeccable, and the food was excellent. I am happy to reccomend Okka, and will return again.

We have had 2 meals here in the last month. Once breakfast and once a light lunch. Both our breakfasts were excellent. The tepas style veggie lunch was also excellent. I had rosti with smoked salmon. My only complaint was that the rosti were greasy - I feel a blot/drain on kitchen roll paper would have much improved my enjoyment. However, the staff and ambience were good both times and the menu has a great selection.

Stopped over here as I passed through Harpenden. Very nice staff and the toasted bread, bacon and sausage meal was delicious. Oh...Can't forget the side salad and the lovely latte. Peaceful environment and just a very nice place. Highly recommended

We stumbled across Okka while visiting friends in the area and were pleased that we did.

We busted as a family recently and enjoyed a first rate brunch were every component was prepared to perfection. Nothing felt greasy or heavy - a spot on venue to enjoy a weekend treat!

My wife and I would come here often after dropping kids to nursery and enjoy some kid free brunch. It’s an intimate place but the service is top notch and it feels cosy and laid back and has a nice atmosphere. The food choice is good with interesting dishes and drinks. Due to its placement, parking isn’t always easy but it’s not the end of the world, you just might have to drive around a couple of times for a space to appear. Good place.

Sadly very disappointed with the experience. Having booked a table online when clearly the Restaurant wasn’t fully booked we were the first to arrive and told to wait at the door entrance as they couldn’t decide where we should sit. Apparently they were now full for the evening. Finally we got seated and after a few minutes we were asked to give our order. We selected a started and when asked if we could have some more time to decide on the main course, we were rudely told again for the second time they were fully booked and we need to hurry the decision. Whilst the food was ok, it wasn’t so special that I would ever return or recommend. I was embarrassed by the service as we had friends visiting who we took there.

This local cafe is great for breakfast items and light bites. The coffee and hot chocolate are great. A lovely place to stop for a natter. I understand they are now open some evenings but I have not eaten there at night.

As we were staying at a Hotel nearby we decided to go into Harpenden to find a restaurant for an evening meal.

Good atmosphere for a little cafe. Nice for a cup of tea and some delicious starters. Good and fast service.

Visited this restaurant for breakfast last month for the first time as we were staying in the area. I hated everything about it. Their cappuccino was horrible. I could not even drink it. The restaurant itself is small and crammed together and does not look particularly clean.

Never been here before - and ordered the sea food sharing platter! It was absolutely amazing and so fresh and light! It’s an absolute must if you’ve not been yet! This will certainly be on my list to have again!

Just returned from a meal at Okka and decided I must post a review (never usually get around to it despite good intentions!). We've been staying in Harpenden for 9 nights and also travelled into London several times. I cannot fault the service, we had the most lovely waitress and the food was delicious. We went with our very reluctant 9 year old and 12 year old boys and everyone agreed it was the nicest meal we've enjoyed on this holiday. I don't normally post reviews but of all the many places we've visited this stood out for all of the right reasons.

It was four and a half years since I last visited and thought I would try again. A decision that I regret. The starters, fan fried prawns, was bland and tasteless, the Tomato Bruschetta was OK but unadventurous. The Mama's Anatolian Kofte, at £14.95, tasted like a ten year old had made it and forgotten to add any herbs and not worth the price. The crab tagliatelle was bland and the fish tasted old. The drinks were excellent and the service attentive.

Another good light meal in Okka after a visit to the orthodontist. Service very attentive and food delicious.

We have been to Okka on special occasions and this place has never let us down. Dinner menu is a must see as it has plenty lovely choices. food is great.

This place has slowly changed into a basic cafe, when you get day old salad on the side of your sausage Sandwhich it’s a sure sign.

Reliable as ever. I had a vegetarian salad with halloumi and plenty of pomegranate seeds. A feast not just for the eyes! The others had the hot chicken wrap and raved about it. Good coffee and cake afterwards. The music was something of an offput dreadful cheesy easy listening. Better to have none if that’s the only option!

We had gone to the town for some other shopping about, 21 miles from Ealing our temporary home. After the shopping we simply googled to find the finest restaurants according to Trip Advisor and locked in on Okka. We really struggled to find parking space but never gave up in the quest of great food. Ended up at a Waitrose where we parked illegally and walked for 3 minutes to the restaurant to be warmly welcome by lively and ever smiling staff. We had a corner table with an excellent street view having opted to be inside. I saw a few who braved the weather and sat outside.

Visited in the evening, very quiet. Food was as usual very good and reasonably priced, however on this occasion I noted the drinks prices were very expensive. £6.95 for a pint of beer and £20 for a very basic house wine.

First time in Okka. What a gem! Had seabass, chips and asparagus and my other half had half a chicken. Food cooked and presented beautifully and service a delight. Will definitely be back again soon!

I've eaten here before and the food is beautiful, however the bathroom is filthy. The restaurant was packed and it wasn't until we were given drinks that there would be a half hour wait for food.

Absolutely amazing food and stunning service, the menu is quite limited but full of absolutely delicious food so you wouldn’t ever be unhappy with any choice you make.

Another visit at this cosy restaurant where we were spoilt by the great staff and the owner. I had todays special which was Lamb steak which was cooked to perfection. As always the the home made meze were out of this world. Exellent food at reasonable prices. Thank you all at OKKA.

Had the most delicious 3 coarse meal, the Lamb Tava was superb and will definitely have it again, and couldn't recommend Okka more as both the food and service were excellent from start to finish.

Went as a party of four last Friday and we all left disappointed. We booked last minute as our reservation at another restaurant was cancelled due to a bereavement. Occa was available and I hadn't been for two years, due to disappointment on my last visit, but thought give it another try. Shouldn't have bothered, the starters were poorly cooked and the main dishes of Mamas Koftas were very small with some minute pieces of pitta. What capped off the evening was being charged £1 for a sprinkling of parmesan. Living on former reputation for evening meals. Cannot comment on breakfasts.

I have to say I have visited here a view times over the last few years and unfortunately I think o my last visit both quality in food and service has declined. It used to be so much better, yes you would wait longer for food but it was always worth it, lately not so much. Asked for the bill and it was just slapped on the table. Not the worse I’ve experienced but definitely better places locally I’d recommend over this place
