Oh My Cod in Colchester

Ordered Cod, Plaice, Chips, Large Chips and Onion rings. Cod was raw in places. When it's undercooked, it does not break apart easily - it was also cold in places. The plaice was cooked (but a thinner fish, so that makes sense) The batter on the Cod was falling apart, and looked overcooked. Chips and onion rings were fine. I've since found this place has a 3-star hygine rating which isn't terrible, but lower than I would usally order from. I won't return, the staff were friendy enough and it was busy, but "Oh My Cod" should be able to consistantly cook Cod. If they were more local, I would have returned.

First order from here the chips was dry did ask for salad and vinegar there was non on them and ordered a potato scallop which was horrible and also a cheese cake which was not very nice only thing that was nice was the batterd sausage will not order from here ever again wasted my money on food that was chucked away

When u order a kebab with the works and u get dry meat and chips, I’d like to say this is the 1st time it’s happened but it’s no, I gave them another chance because the 1st time I ordered the food was great, looks like the bad standard is a regular thing

Ordered confirmed at 1708 hours and estimated time of arrival 1745-1810 hours. This then changed numerous times and I then made them aware I was going out at 1930 hours and my husband text me at 1950hours to say food arrived by courier on pushbike!!. What an absolute joke. Tried to call he chip shop numerous times before hand and kept ringing with no answer. Very cold food delivered and I couldn’t have mine till I got home at 2230hours. Very very disappointed with the service. Have sent email to just eat. Shop Should change its name from Oh my cod to Oh my god!!. Such a let down indeed.

So the food is okay...ish, battered Sausages were chewy, not at all crispy, chips were mediocre at best. Delivery was quite quick and food was hot, but as far as fish and chips go, it was disappointing. The drinks weren't even remotely cold, they were warm! Who wants a warm can of Fanta? Gerkins are also tiny compared to other places. If you're ordering for delivery, I'd recommend Johnny Macs.

Despite some of the bad reviews on here. We ordered tonight and within 45 minutes it arrived hot and fresh. The chips could have been a little crispier but i would recommend the curry sauce and cod 🤤

Cod & Potato Scallops were both soaked in horrible tasting oil.! Lovely sized fish & looked yummy, but i had to throw most of it away, far too much oil & the oil just tasted awful, i had to eat something else afterwards to get rid of the taste. Very disappointed & it wasn't cheap. Sadly never again i'm afraid.

Most people seem to be having issues with delivery. Stopped to pick up.Cod and chips for lunch. Overall very decent. Well done battered cod and decent chips. Good value for money. £9.70 for a very generous portion.

Extremely unreliable. Few weeks back our burgers came without the requested salad, just burgers in a bun with sause. Tonight the order came missing 2 battered sausages and the two cheese burgers that did come, both came with salad consisting of just 1 slice of cucumber, 1slice of tomato and a few strands of lettuce in each. Phone call complaint resulted in them saying they would walk a 20 minute walk to us with the missing sausages. Very unreliable and a half hearted effort in the food that was sent to us.

Pretty good chippy but service can be slow if you go and wait. Wish the chips were crispier as well.

Ordered food come absolutely disgusting and nothing I can do about a refund and get no answer. Put specific dietary requirements which they didn’t listen do and my fish came as potato in batter instead. Severely annoyed and will take to the media.

Ordered my food 2 hours ago and still no food even though the just eat app is saying its been delivered!! I am always ordering from here but it's getting stupid now how I've been waiting 2 hours for food that hasn't come and all you get is a refund!! Doesnt help when you're starving and have been waiting 2 hours!! You can never get through to the restaurant as phone is ALWAYS BUSY!! RUBBISH!! RUBBISH!! RUBBISH!!! Our food was delivered via Uber, it arrived 1 hour after ordering which is fair enough on a Saturday evening. Our food was in the car for about 45 mins according to the uber app and when it arrived it was stone cold. We ordered a curry sauce and a gravy, the gravy was half full and was like brown water and the curry sauce was also half full and very thick, at £2 each it's a complete waste of money. It's just a bit annoying that we decide to treat ourselves to a takeaway after a busy month and the meal is very disappointing and literally a waste of money. It came to just over £40.

COD is good but sadly, we have witnessed again and again, the staff and even the manager the whole lot only pick on him and racist bully and harass the Asian driver. Making fun of him and laughing so loud again and again right in front of the customers. They even let their brothers and sisters from the same third world countries who have just arrived to work in the UK this year jump the queue, simply with the no first come first serve policy!! 1x iLLegal is £5k, so how many are there??

Firstly fish and chips that is open on a Sunday gets 5 stars, service is friendly and fast battered sausage and chips was delicious not greasy but all golden and well cooked 5* all round Ps. No photos cos I am posting this after eating all the food !

Ordered a chicken doner wrap which was filled with grease, soggy and disgusting, we had travelled from north London to see my mother in a surrounding village, it’s hardly like we could go back and complain. All the packaging was absolutely smeared in grease, my chicken burger had one slice of cucumber and was covered in onions. Absolutely disgusting, we ordered for collection prior to reaching close by colchester and they didn’t even bother with our order until we got there. If we could be bothered to drive back I’d be throwing the wrap in their face

I had just arrived in Colchester - I was tired and hungry and it was getting late. I found Oh My Cod and was treated with great warmth and courtesy. The fish that I ordered was cooked to perfection and well presented with tartare sauce on the side. I sat on the bus stop seat outside the shop and devoured my meal. All was well with the world - for a while at least.

We have come here every week for a long time for fish and chips and really loved them but have ti say that the last 3 weeks the chips have been terrible.hard and dry...what's going wrong...you must be using wrong or cheaper potatoes.its spoiled our meals.weve thrown the chips away. Spoken to quite a few other people.they say same. Hoping you can sort this

Received delivery via deliveroo. Pie is uncooked. Now what? Shop doesn’t answer. Deliveroo will refund the pie. But what about the other £20 of food we ordered? We can’t eat together because one of us doesn’t have their food.

We visited for the first time on the way back to Mersea. All the food was great. The chips were crisp and perfectly fried, The portions were generous, my battered sausage was lovely. The freshly fried medium haddock was huge and tasted how haddock should. The service was prompt and helpful. Highly recommended.

Ordered online, watched app as my food was driven around Colchester for 50 minutes as I waited in the High St for it, driver or shop not picking up. Food never arrived even though app says delivered.

Ordered at 5.40pm. Food arrived at 7.45pm. £27 for two kebabs with chips. To be fair, food was hot, but chips were soggy and kebab was just okay. Nothing special for £27. Telephone number permanently engaged. No way to cancel on Just Eat without risking getting charged anyway. The driver arrived (eventually), gave no apology whatsoever. We pointed out how long we’d waited. He then said, “Not my fault”, before going into a long explanation about how food gets cancelled if the driver is too far away, so they had to re-order it. He made it sound like it was our fault. Very brass necked about it. Absolutely disgraceful service. If I could leave minus stars I would. ***Please! Please! Please! *** Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Oh My Cod! don’t worry about next time. There won’t be one. Never again as long as I draw breath. Shameful waste of our hard earned money.

I'm not a regular, but this place has been my go to whenever I need a pick me up or hangover cure. Special shout out to the guy who always tosses the chips thoroughly in salt and vinegar and securely wraps them up. The cod and haddock are my fav. I wouldn't bother with ordering it on delivery - it's usually a 10-15 min wait inside for food which is fine for me.

Absolute joke ordered a hour and half ago you can’t ring them the number don’t work they don’t keep you updated with the order just that assigning a driver which was ages ago and going off another review today says it all and you can’t even contact them just eat need to address this I will also be contacting them about the poor service and having no phone

It’s actually zero stars. This shop is going the same way as its sister shop in N.Station. No delivery to be seen anywhere. After 1hr 20mins of waiting last night I cancelled my order via Just Eat as I’d got fed up of waiting for a driver to be assigned. They are refusing a full refund. Because it was outside the grace period. I am a regular user of the food apps and this is the only restaurant that ever has delivery issues. I will no longer use this place nor Just Eat. They just aren’t worth it. Waste of space. Spend your money else where. Plenty of equally decent kebab / fish and chip shops and delivery apps in Colchester. You’ve been warned.

This shop is unfortunately going the way of its sister shop in north station. This used to be my fav kebab takeaway but the terrible delivery service via just eat has reared its head just like the other shop. I’m sure they’ll blame just eat as the other shop used to but as a regular user as well as Deliveroo this is the only place I’ve have issues with. Final straw was tonight when after an hour I was still waiting for a driver to be assigned. I’m now in process of arguing with just eat for a refund. Take your business elsewhere there’s more reliable kebab shops in Colchester that produce equally tasty food.

Kebabs aren't cut fresh, the cut pieces are put in a warmer and they are always so dry. The fish is fresh and tasty though.

We moved to the other side of town 4 years ago and have not had food from here since then (out of sight out of mind) I am not a great lover of kebabs, but you know how it is, one day you just have got to have one So Sunday we decided to give them a go I was surprised how fast it arrived and also how good it was Will definitely be ordering again soon Thanks

I’ve been to this shop for few times now and I have seen the staff treat the costumers so bad. Today I visited the employee who been treated myself very poorly. He’s the short guy with the silver chain. He was so rude with me. He would said we charge 50p per sauce but then he said this is the last time ill give you the sauce for free but not anymore. Then I said “oh okay so just charge me now I wanna pay for this and for the other days I came here haven’t been charged”. He then said I don’t care, if you been charge or not I’ll not accept it. I don’t know if he has problems in his personal life, but he can not get his problems to his job. As it is spilling over into his customer service and had become very rude to customers. He can treat other customers as I was treated. Sadly your Battered sausage you sell is amazing I can say that but I’ll never be back in this place again due to the rude treatment from this individual

Once gain food was awfull more grease than ever on my batterd sausage . If the owner spent more time worrying about his food rather than sitting out side smoking and eyeing up the birds and chatting them up . He might get more done .

Update of a review I left via just-eat.co.uk as agata.So...turns out,the driver never delivered the order to me. As frustrated as I was, I contacted the restaurant and the lady was exceptionally supportive in helping me sort things out. In addition, the owner of the restaurant, arrived with food at my door,personally ( something he really was not obliged to do).This is some extraordinary customer treatment and I would like to applaud those people...more people like this and the world is a better place:) I did chat to just-eat.co.uk, so they will refund this order.As soon as they do, I will personally deliver the refund money to the Oh my Cod people. I'm really pleased, people like this are still out there.

My just eat order was incorrectly down as a collection (either my error or just eats app, nothing to do with the restaurant). I phoned the restaurant who were really friendly and sorted it immediately. I’m confused about the bad reviews, maybe they have changed the staff since the bad reviews but they couldn’t of been more helpful to me tonight! A girl does love a good fish & chip supper every now & again, it is after all a British traditional dish to have, especially on a Friday evening. Do bear in mind that this place can get really busy at times & you may have to wait due to its popularity!! Having said this I'm not surprised as the food is absolutely delicious! Like Oh My Cod level, see what I did there, Lol I highly recommend you go & try their fish & chips. They do lots of other items from kebabs to the battered sausage, so there is quite a range of items on their menu. As well as drinks & sundries. Hope you do enjoy it as much as I did!! I helped my daughter move into her new house in Colchester, but we didn't have time to shop. No problem, we found this take away 400m away, and got amazing fish & chips with sides and drinks... £31 for six tired and hungry adults, more than sufficed. They do kebabs as well. East Euro staff really friendly and helpful. We will be regulars!

They were very busy and there was a bit of a wait but the staff still had time for friendly banter. The young man frying was easy on the eye too which made the wait more bearable ;-) Will come again

Went here on Halloween as it was one of the few places open on Sunday. I asked if they had any meat products that didn't contain wheat as my son has a gluten intolerance. The woman behind the counter rolled her eyes, tutted then huffed that she "didn't know". She then said the unbatterred sausages "might be ok". Several staff overheard the conversation and said nothing. They clearly don't care about customer service. Won't be going there again ever!

Love the fish and chips, but they really need to do something about the drivers. Placed my order and had to wait 30 odd minutes for streams of uber eats and just eat drivers to be served ahead of me. I dont really mind the drivers per se they are doing a job after all, but they should show some consideration for people that actually turn up to buy, who are also pushed outside in the freezing cold, while the drivers stay inside jostling for position. They should have a separate counter for drivers and proper customers.

First of all,they did not give us a battered sausage,which they charged for.then when my wife checked her online banking,they had charged her card twice.never using them again.

From a £20.00 Order the only thing edible was the 2.30 sausage. the chicken wrap smelt off and have never had chicken taste like 3 day old bacon before. The chicken wings and chips smelt and tasted like they had been fried in oil that had not been changed for nearly a year. this is the first time I have rated anything below 3 stars but what a disappointment. Good luck to anyone trying this food in the future. YOU WILL NEED IT. What a waste of money

Nothing ready for my pre ordered food. Got my money and seemed to be looking after walk-ins. Why phone an order. Food good but the whole reason for telephoning ahead is to have your food ready when you have asked it for.

First time I've used this place but fantastic fish and chips!! Good size portions, crispy chips and the fish was fresh and flaky. Definitely recommend.

The quality of the food from Oh My Cod is exceptional. I am especially fond of their kebabs. Overwhelmingly superior to most kebabs in the area. Excellent food, good presentation. Top notch service!
