Oh My Cod in Babergh

Pushed for time so wanted to pick up sausage and chips on way home at 5.pm. Know they take ages for fish but at that time would have thought they would have chips ready! As it was the "chef" took my money, wandered about for a bit and then tipped about a third of a bucket of chips into the fryer. I was then told there was a 10 minute wait for chips but that the sausage was ready cooked. Bet it was! From lunchtime probably. What chip shop doesn't expect to sell a bucket worth of chips in the evening? All this class for a MERE £8. For sausage and chips! Do not waste your money here as they clearly can't afford to run it properly any more even though it is a cash only establishment. I'm never comfortable with those. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Have used this as our local chippy for a number of years but have now given up as the standards are just too unreliable. Sometimes its great but about 1 in 4 visits is a disaster. Plus the fact that they never have any fish cooked and ready to go - pot luck to even get chips ready. Ridiculous for a fish and chip shop. It also shuts at odd times despite the advertised opening hours. Have given up now and go to Mick's in Borehamgate.

Having moved to Sudbury recently we like our fish and chips so asked for recommendations and this was what one of our neighbour said was good. Unfortunately we were not impressed, we phoned and pre-ordered 2 cod & chips which weren't ready when we turned up to collect 45 minutes later - the woman behind the counter was quite rude when we pointed out that we had pre-ordered 'Well we are busy, just hang on a minute please' We did hang on for 5 minutes - we got home to nicely cooked cod but no way the chips were fresh = warm, soggy and overcooked.

The cod was actually really good - but the chips bad - warmish and dry. Lady that served us was a bit offish and was actually really rude to the young lad who ordered behind us. One of us had a chicken pie that tasted like it had been in the oven for hours as their was no gravy and the chicken had dried out. Would go back for the fish but dubious about anything else on offer.

5pm and cooking per order took 45mins for sausage and chips. Could cook a meal at home quiker, and chips are very oily as they have not been drained long enougth. not a one off either cetainly not fast food.

This place is difficult to review recently, as it depends on who is working on the night as to what you get. It's more expensive that its biggest rival in the town - and fish/chips are not consistent - I guess it depends on who is cooking? The staff often look miserable but we can forgive them as they can often be snapped at and spoken to quite rudely by the person cooking (assume managers). They have a pretty good selection on their menu - but if you are looking for a great burger go next door to Liz's Kabab and if you want to ensure you get great fish and chips every time - I would look elsewhere. For pies, Sausages and mushy peas - Oh my Cod does a good job,

I'm wondering why this place has got such high reviews: perhaps it's the fact that the chips can be crispy along with the fish batter, but personally I find the fish itself is not very good at all.

I like my chips nicly golden brown not white and not limp sam for my fish, thus I always ask the staff to extra cook our order or us, ths they always do, but I wonder f anyone out there like white limp chips with under done soft batter, ???

Good fish and chips served quickly with a smile. Managed to find a bench to sit on a few minutes walk down by the river.

Hier haben wir Fish and Chips gegessen und waren sehr zufrieden. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis war völlig in Ordnung. Fish and Chips schmeckten gut und waren nicht fettig. Die Bedienung war ausgesprochen freundlich. Das Geschäft macht einen sehr sauberen Eindruck.Wir würden hier gerne wieder essen beim nächsten Besuch.

Shocked in this day and age that though cooked in veg oil they put fish and chips in same fryer. Not vege friendly. What a disgrace. : (

Lovely fish and chips all cooked to order, batter is delicious and crispy and you get loads of chips. We also love the cod roe, nice thick pieces and cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend.

Called in to get lunch, as tourists this made a change from the run of the mill "tourist price" baguette etc. Set at the end of the High Street (?) surrounded by other fast food places we thought we would give it a go. The fish was cooked fresh for us - my wife thought hers was slightly underdone, but not an issue, the staff were friendly and allowed us to sit in the waiting area with out two very small (and in special carriers) dogs. Prices were reasonable. Fish was thick and tasty. Too many chips, and for me to say that ........... Can recommend.

We always use this chip shop. The food is freshly cooked and decent value. We normally end up with one large portion of chips for the whole family.

Went in for portion of chips . Reasonable quality and size of portion for £1.50 not bad . However the two other fish and chip shops serve better chips

Sin duda el mejor pescado y patatas fritas en kilómetros a la redonda. Porciones grandes, recién preparado. Servicio con una sonrisa. Si no quieres esperar durante períodos de tiempo e. g viernes noche, recto orden té de tiempo. Están siempre dispuestos a tomar órdenes de teléfono! Ojalá se entregan también.

Spotlessly clean, friendly service. Good quality fish and chips. Very tasty. Good price. Will visit again.

Swamped in oil and so high new woman working in there and she decided to overcharges me and kept my change!!!!

I was greeted with a very warm smile and friendly server and the food was freshly cooked and presented well. Reasonably priced, clean venue. Great for a quick lunch bite.

My Brother-In-Law always had the cod, he said it was the best in sudbury and the cheapest! It is always fresh and tasty, the portion size is very generous. The staff are always well-turned out and friendly, and the shop is always clean. We would go at least once a week, sometimes more often and never had any reason to complain.

We pop in every few weeks and always have a good takeaway whatever we choose. The kids get a free lolly too!

I live local and use this fish and chip shop on a regular basis for myself and family service is great and the fish and chips are lovely good portion sizes and taste great cooked fresh to order

We tried Oh my Cod on a friends recommendation and its now our local chippie of choice. The foods good and the staff are always friendly.

Thought I better write a review on Oh My Cod because we always use them when we have a fish supper. The food is cooked while you wait and portions are generous. Would recommend.

Not a great fan of most chippies, but this has something else. I had sea bream and new potatoes, our friends had skate and a whale of a cod and chips. Everyone loved their food, really fresh fish and friendly serviceWell worth a visit

This is a superb Fish and Chip shop. The way a chipper should be. It is clean has a five star food hygiene certificate. Everything is cooked to order and the portions tend to be on the large size. The Staff always greet you with a smile and are very pleasant to speak with while waiting for your dinner to cook.

The best fish and Chips in Sudbury, served by friendly staff.Often a long wait, but they provide seating and a newspaper and TV so the time soon passes.

We normally get our takeaway fish and chips from here, having tried all the local ones. Well cooked, not greasy and decent sized portions. Recommended

My wife and I stopped in for dinner at The Cod Father here in a sudbury last night and were surprised to find a brand new dining room with atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. My wife Iordered grilled cod and I had fried scampi. Both dinners were served piping hot and nicecsidecservings of potatoes. We were very pleased and wrere told the chef is new and prepares everything from scratch including the delicious apple crumble. What a pleasure to have you in Sudbury. We will see you soon.

been here several times when passing , each time ive visited they took soo long to serve a portion of chips , simply too long to wait for a bagt of chips when theres no other customers food seems fine , but its just too much standing around for a simple order , god knows what its like at peak times

Superb chips from the right potatoes, well judged cooking of the huge cod and no taste of cooking oil!Recently moved to the town and local recommendations were not wrong. Quite outstanding in every way, and you can phone in your order too!
