Amazing restaurant. We are tricky diners with one of us coeliac and the other dairy intolerant. They amend everything so we don’t miss out on the lovely tasting dishes. The employees are warm and friendly. Highly recommend.

The food was delicious - creative and always tasty and satisfying. On realising my husband's egg allergy they brought spectacular replacements for little bits of starters. We were also treated to a complimentary glass of Cornish fizz. Brilliant service. Locally sourced food and wine made it really special.

Fantastic food, great ethos, and clearly staff with a passion for fine dining. I have eaten here a few times in the last month, and have had different menus each time. The tapas style set starters are all based around a theme, and are wonderfully presented, and carefully curated. And the main dishes are meat, fish or vegetable, and this perhaps means that you try things you may not have chosen from a larger menu, which is part of the delight in the experience. I’m a “foody”, and enjoy fine dining, but have to confess I had to Google a few of the plates / ingredients, which again meant it peaked my interest and enjoyment.

Disappointing. The service was slow, we weren’t asked about how we found the starter or main. I had the Dover sole for main. It came out smelling strongly of fish, it was the tail end of the fish, so all bone. The texture of the fish was rubbery and it tased unpleasant like it was old and had started to go off. The waiter did replace the fish. However, as I passed other diners on the way out, all the people who had the sole were given a good sized filet, not from the tail end of the fish, with plenty of white fish meat. I wouldn’t eat here again.

A really excellent meal. The starter selection was well thought out and had a great range of flavours. The duck was perfectly cooked and the chocolate pudding was one of the best I’ve had. Friendly staff as well. All in all exceeded my expectations

The food here honestly blew us both away. Absolutely delicious. The local wine also hit the spot. We were made to feel very special and all staff were absolutely fantastic. Special shout out to Dina who couldn’t have been more helpful. Will definitely be returning next year for our anniversary. Thanks O.Go

The whole restaurant had a very relaxed and luxurious feel to it. The tapas style menu was a great touch, sampling dishes outside of my predictable palette and each plate looked incredible with in-season produce. A great combination of vegetarian dishes which were actually some of the highlights. But most of all a big shout out to the beef main which came with a sort of gherkin jelly, oh god! The service was amazing, each waiter/waitress described the dishes they brought out and even chose the wine for us which was a nice touch. The puddings were a little underwhelming after what was a faultless meal, but nevertheless I polished all 3 off nicely. Chefs George and Louisa were attentive and passionate and the whole meal was an experience. Bloody brilliant.

New theme to this quiet restaurant within Bedruthan Hotel. After a drink on the outdoor terrace admiring the views, we enjoyed the tapas style starters to share which included the best Scallops we had ever tasted. Food great, good quality accompanying wine and service was outstanding. At £75 per head including wine and service it wasn’t cheap, but the experience was well worth the price.

Food was amazing. The whole experience of location, food and service made an amazing night. My wife has coeliac disease so must eat gluten free, they were so committed to making GF alternatives of the meals it was hard to notice. Definitely worth it especially if you are worried about eating out when your coeliac.

We liked that the menu had starter grouped as a selection of tapas dishes and mains were well thought out. Sides were are grouped. So this made the menu selection easy. Food was tasty and delicious and had a really good mix of ingredients. Drinks were also well thought out and interesting. The restaurant is light and airy with a modern yet easy going vibe. But most impressive was the pre-sunset view, truly amazing. The staff were happy attentive and took the tone to explain all the dishes. Overall a great dining experience.

Just had a battered sausage & chips which was cooked fresh. It was delicious & a great portion size too. I had my 6 year old with me who said he was cold & one of the guys working there heard this & came out & plugged in a portable heater for him which was a really nice touch. Thanks I will be back & I highly recommend here👍

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.
