Poor service: When asked why it's taken so long, I got told they were very busy. There were 2 tables of 2 and 2 tables of 4. As we were waiting, a table of 2 came in, and after 10 minutes of waiting for service They got up and left. There were 3/4 staff members. It's a shame that could be a gold mind in the right hands. The food was cold and bland.

Lovely food and drink, good prompt service and table was cleaned before we sat down. Oat milk available for non-dairy diner. Toilet accessible for customers and a garden for dogs if required. Tables need clearing more often though and the toilet could do with freshening up. Really like the backstory about Odette herself too. We’ll be back.

A friend visited me yesterday. We normally go to another beautiful cake shop but they were closed yesterday so thought we would try here. We walked in and were the only people in there. We went out to the garden and all the tables had dirty plates on. We had to clear our own table in order to sit down. The stairs inside also had dirty plates on the steps going up. The girl brought out our food and just walked back in empty handed, didn’t clear any of the dirty plates which we found really perplexing. As our food arrived there was a rat walking around in the flower bed next to where we were sat. Not bothered by us at all so clearly very at home!!! We left shortly after. Horrific. Would not visit again and would not recommend.

Love the idea of odettes, beautiful vintage China, loose leaf teas and friendly service. However, went for afternoon tea and the scones were actually burnt on top (the scone on the next table was black), skimpy on the jam and cream but did top up when asked, only 2 tuna mayo finger sandwiches, 1 ham and 1 egg between 2 of us. My husband hates tuna so that’s my choices gone then! 4 bite size cakes on top tier but just lacking the wow factor as no garnish just cake plonked on top. A few grapes or some berries would have really lifted it. The lemon bite size cake was wow though and wish I’d just had that with a cuppa! Had scones delivered for Mother’s Day a few years ago - also burnt, when I complained I was told that’s why they had thrown a couple of extra in! They shouldn’t have even left the kitchen. Tried again this year as under new management but seems the art of scone making still needs work. Not cheap at £17.95 a head so expected to feel wow’d but sadly very underwhelming which was sad on Mother’s Day.

Firstly, the staff were warm and friendly. My well behaved dog was welcome; which is always a big plus for me (& otherwise I don’t go there!). It was very busy when we got there. We arrived at 1.40pm; our order was taken at 2pm….finally got our drinks at 2.15pm and the food eventually turned up around 2.40pm. This is incredibly slow; for a bowl of soup, 2 reheated in microwave cheese scones & one Afternoon Tea. The tea was a beautiful display with delightfully prepared mini sandwiches and slices of cake etc. Not expensive; the whole bill only came to £27 and the tea would’ve served two people easily (my daughter had to take half of it home). Real clotted cream & nice jam. Real butter. I appreciate that they were super busy before we arrived but feel that service should be a lot faster as everything can be pre-prepared in advance. Also the temperature on a cold December day was pretty low; a heater or two would’ve been nice. With a few improvements this place could be amazing.

I have worked in hospitality before and for several years. I understand being stressed out due to understaffing and that receipts get lost, I’ve been guilty of losing a few orders myself. However, when a customer quite legitimately and politely asks what has happened to their food after an hour of waiting I also know that keeping calm and being friendly and apologetic is the best policy. When my mother asked where our order was though the waitress simply shouted in her face that she “had not received an order” despite my mother being entirely non-confrontational. We were then apologised to by the waiter who explained he’d lost the receipt asked if we still wanted our food, which we did, and we explained to him we weren’t at all angry just confused. However, when the waitress came back with the food she plonked it down on the table without so much as a smile and stalked off while my mother was still thanking her and trying to sympathise that it was busy. When I then went to pay I was met with similar frostiness with the waitress claiming she’d forgotten what we ordered and not offering any compensation of any kind. It was only when we were leaving that she mumbled something to me about being “sorry again about the toast”. I understand that some customers can be aggressive and unreasonable about mistakes made and that it is hard to work in an environment that is busy and understaffed but I do feel my mother and I should have received a much better level of respect and service seeing as we had remained friendly and reasonable in spite of a staff error.

We visited for an early lunch, and I’d like to start by saying the staff were friendly and polite. I felt it could of been cleaner, some unclean table cloths, crumbs etc. We ordered Brie bacon and cranberry sandwich and a tuna sandwich. The freshly cooked bacon was nice but it was a very basic sandwich and presentation and not what I would of expected from a tea room, I could of made something more appealing at home. The ends of the crisp packet were on my plate. I know it’s not a visually appealing/exciting meal when I don’t think about taking a photo. Although there was nothing wrong with our food… I wouldn’t jump at the idea of visiting again.

Decided to support a local cafe rather than the chain coffee rooms but hugely disappointed. Were told at 11.30 a.m. there was no cake because they had sold out! Rather a long wait for some very bitter coffee which came with a cup chipped at the rim. Whilst I accept the vintage crockery is part of the theme this was just unhygienic. ☹️ And much more expensive than other cafes but really not worth it.

The new decor is an improvement, but quite chaotic. Despite there being three members of staff (two in the kitchen, one serving) the service was very slow (40 minutes from entering to the coffee arriving). I had the afternoon tea, which consisted of egg and ham & pickle sandwiches, which were disappointing as I was hoping for more variety and imagination. The scone was overcooked and a bit dry. I didn’t try the cake, which might have been ok.Sandwiches definitely need some work. With the limited number of covers, the service should be more efficient too. Staff were polite.

I went having seen the good gluten free reviews. The staff were very friendly and said most things could be made gluten free. I did query the hollandaise sauce as they said it had vinegar in and she didn't realise coeliacs needed to avoid malt vinegar. Also I asked if gluten free bread was going in a normal toaster and I was told it would. I said that would mean it was't suitable for coeliacs so she did it under the toaster. Food was good but I was worried. It's definitely worth asking questions if you go there and are coeliac as staff were very helpful. However this was ok when we arrived and it was empty. They may not be able to when busy as they were when we left.

Please be very wary of booking any kind of function here. Our experience was of booking for my wife's 50th birthday one year in advance. Booking accepted, we sent out invites and people began booking hotel rooms etc. We received a phone call a few days ago, telling us that they were cancelling the booking. They had a story about double booking us with someone who made a tentative enquiry two years ago(!), but it is clear that we have simply been bumped for a more lucrative offer. It is so disappointing when a business treats potential customers like this. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for any important function.
