Oceans 11 in Waverley

First time trying this place, the server over charged us by about £15, then didn't know how to do a refund on the card machine, and could only offer £7 in change. The chips were really soggy. Overall, a really bad experience.

Stop the stench! Yet more New management, same issues. Operating without planning consent, this place continues to saturate private homes & gardens with the most horrific relentless stench all day, every day making normal life impossible. Inside & outside homes stink of rancid grease, fat & frying. Every meal here genuinely harms locals.

Always used to eat here but this will be our last order. Chips are brown, soggy and raw in the middle. Quite an achievement. Good job we have an air fryer and cooked some replacements before the rest went cold. Shame it didn't fall in the massive open drain in the carpark that's STILL there. Yuk.

Management changes here with the wind. Still seems to be operating without a license causing tremendous harm to people in the village with terrible air pollution from unsightly vent system. Open drain in the car park & untidy looking premises. Really negative impact for Hale all round.

This fish and chip shop is going downhill rapidly. Brown, dried out chips seemingly re-heated too many times and strange heavy, soft batter on the fish although the fish itself inside it was quite decent and bone free. The exact pricing structure seems difficult to understand too, although it didn't seem expensive, I couldn't work out from the price list displayed, why my order cost what it did. I'll be exploring other chip shops in town despite the convenience of this one.

Ordered just a chips, Clearly a very small order and made to wait until the ticket number came up behind people that had extremely large orders 6 fish etc etc. it’s literally ready behind him Just box and pass it over. Waited around 30 mins Won’t be back.

My previous review was when this was Oceans 11. Food was good and the only fault was the price rises post pandemic (like everywhere). I have just been to Nearest (new management) and I am seriously disappointed. The food was awful. Poor quality produce and cooked in horrible oil. Batter was soggy. Chips were all edges with no substance. I definitely won’t be back. Shame.

I have never eaten chips I had had to leave before eating here. The battered sausage was more pink than cooked. I can't put my finger on what was wrong with the chips. But both my partner and I realised they were unedable. I really won't be going back. Poor quality sometimes can happen. But these really didn't warrant a return.

We decided to try this place as we'd driven past it many times on our way to Basingstoke...I'm sooo glad we did! The food is absolutely amazing, the prices are brilliant and the new lady owner is sooo friendly. I definitely recommend that, if you get a chance, you should pop in...you won't regret it!

Awful. Batter soggy, chips luck warm and soggy with no taste. How they are in business I don't know. You can get wonderful fish and chips at a restaurant but these people specialise and can't make anything edible. Not cheap either. Shop empty when I turned up

Was looking for an altwrnative to oh my cod. Which only takes cash? Ordered fish and Chips x2 plus chips. 3 minute drive home. Fish batter rather bready not crisp. Chips lacklustre. Prob wont use again expensive too £26

Poor quality food, tasteless, very poorly prepared. I feel ill eating what I did. At leat 4 owner in a short period of time, why go cheap?????

After a change in management, the foods and services at this chip shop and improved significantly. It really goes to show that the new manager really cares about the business and its customers. We really enjoyed our meal and best part was that the chips stayed nice and crispy on the drive back home. Well done guys!!!!

Very strange chips, extremely long and a funky texture almost like a crisp. Fish full of bones (cod) and the batter was like a Yorkshire pudding. Long wait for it too, price not bad tho. Wouldn't class it as traditional fish and chips more like of you ask for it on holiday in Vietnam.

I hadn't read the reviews before I ordered, but I wish I had. The batter on the fish really is awful. As someone else said, more like pancake batter - soggy and not crispy at all. To be fair, the chips were alright. Disappointing as we used to love the fish and chips here!

Utter utter garbage. The worst fish and chips I have ever eaten in my life. I’ve had better fish and chips at a school dinner. The fish batter was like pancake mix and just really nasty. The chips were as dry as anything. This place should be a crime to be called a fish and chip shop. We went several times when it was oceans 11 but I will never step through the doors of this new dive ever again. 0 stars.

Food hygiene rating ONE says all you need to know, poor. Area could do with a good seafood shop. The best I have found is in Aldershot.

Food top-notch but very expensive

Lovely saveloy and chips. Has to wait for the chips but it was worth it. Decent sized portion of golden crispy chips with a light fluffy centre.

This business continues to have a huge negative impact on air quality in the village with its relentless daily onslaught of acrid boiling fat fumes & rancid frying smells. These infiltrate our private homes & gardens making them impossible to enjoy. Particularly in the hot weather when the stink is unbearable.

Rather a bit more expensive and I wished my chips were a bit crispier for the price I was paying for.

Not used this place for a while as the chips were always undercooked. I thought we would give it another try being under new management, but unfortunately the chips are still very raw on the inside. Had to put them all in the airfryer to make them edible. Staff are really lovely in there though

Popped there near the end of the night, and the staff were very nice, and although they were getting ready to close, they cooked all my food and had a chat, under new management and its working

We had Fish and Chips in the seated area. Staff very friendly.

The first thing you notice is how clean the whole shop is. A large side wall has the menu clearly displayed. There was lots to choose from and many combinations available. Service was quick and we didn't have long to wait for the food to be freshly made. The fish, chips and mushy peas were delicious, so I'm happy to recommend a visit

Twice in a row I have gone in and asked for no salt and vinegar. Proceeded to watch her drown my food in salt and vinegar. And then bare faced lie about and deny it it when I’ve questioned her. Chips used to be good. Really gross now. Never again.

We have been looking for a good chippy nearby and we have found it, good portion sizes and good value for money.

Just OK good service and supplies a good fish and chips.

Friendly service but the food wasn’t great. Greasy, limp chips and oily fish in a dark brown batter with too much salt. The battered sausage was ok. Also, the food was served in polystyrene trays - I didn’t think anyone did that anymore? It’s hard to recycle and generally just ends up in the waste bin. I would’ve given two stars for the food but that’s really inexcusable these days, so it’s one star overall.

Wouldn’t recommend coming here, had a fish and chips the other night. Was very greasy. The smell of old grease as you walk in is awful. Very off putting

Wonderful service, 1st visit, my son had kids meal fish bite and chips...the best chip he had ever had, and ate the fish....which normally he doesn't like. Thank you....we will be regular Sunday visitors!!

Terrible customer service and very serious health concerns at this establishment. Let me explain the food has always been acceptable nothing special they give good size portions and the food has always been quite nice but nothing exceptional. The problem with this place is the customer service twice we have had problems here which the first time we did leave a review and they responded which is why we went back. However this time the health concern is far too serious to ignore, we went in knowing that our new born son is very allergic to Cows milk, therefore my wife is having to have a dairy free diet otherwise she passes this on to our son through breast milk. So we asked at the counter if some foods had cows milk in them and the answer both shocked and surprised us, they said and I quote you need to buy it and then check it yourselves. This is not just a disgusting attitude to have but can also be dangerous, luckily we do not take the risk with anything as it would effect our son terribly. We reported them to the food standards agency and they are going to be contacting them over this incident. We have also reported them to trading standards, normally we wouldn’t resort to such action but that attitude was awful and we felt that this can be very dangerous. I would avoid this’d place at all costs!

Delicious fish and chips, a nice treat after a busy day out.

Friendly service, 15 minute wait for regular cod and chips to be freshly cooked, which was fine, but when I tucked in 10 minutes later I was really disappointed. The chips were flabby which is nothing unusual, but the batter on the cod was soggy on the outside, with some sort of uncooked paste on the inside. I ended up picking out the fish. A most unpleasant meal.

Placed a phone call to ask whether the chips are gluten free answer yes but they are cooked in the same oil as everything else so in other words they are NOT GLUTEN FREE

Clean and cheery. The fish was fine but not particularly notable. I ate no more than 5minutes from serving yet the batter had already gone soggy underneath and was overerly crackly on top. Chips were chunky but suffering the same sogginess as the fish. I waited 10mins while they cooked this so can can't explain the outcome. Possibly the lack of customers means the don't keep cooking oil super hot? Whatever the reason, I found myself growing less and less impressed the more I wrote. Staff were pleasant though.

Friendly staff. We had vegetable burgers and chips. The burgers were lovely. Nice chips. Only grumble is they never seem to have gravy or bbq beans.
