Ocean King Fish Bar in Gosport

The first time here. God knows why because I go past here everyday to and from work! Excellent food: crispy fish with no soggy bottom and beautiful chips. Will definitely go there again!

Couldn't doubt it, my first job was this place, and very disappointed in the reviews as I do NOT find anything wrong with this place price is good for the food, service is good. Again couldn't doubt it.

I phoned through an order and arrived at shop about15 mins later. I don’t think the two young gentlemen working there had started my order. It took 35 mins from ordering to paying. When we opened the chips they were hard and inedible and I think they had been re cooked. Really disappointed and won’t return, unfortunately.

Just ordered the worse fish and chips ever. I couldn't eat the chips and the fish was so dry.

Well as my last review seems to have been taken down will do it again ! Fish was vile batter too thick and fish was dry. Worst take away on Isle of Wight

Very slow service and poor quality . Had to wait 20 mins for food and the shop was not busy. During that time I witness staff microwave delivery orders whilst waiting for drivers . When home we found the food was not the best compared to other fish and chip shops locally. I did not like eating my fish to find a packet of tartar source under the fish .

Visited for first time today at lunchtime for 2 portions of chips and fish cake.£6.70 !!!! Talk about being robbed. Last visit and May I say avoid like the plague!! Chips looked like they’d been reheated a dozen times! Dryer up brown and bits rather than chips. Totally disgusted. Photo attached.

I have just purchased my lunch from here and the quality of food from the last time I had food here has serverly dropped. I ordered a double cheese burger, Small chips and curry sauce which came to £7.20 which I thought was not to bad. Boy was i wrong i was first asked if i wanted salad on the burger, then to be told they had none fair enough. It was cooked very fast which being a former chef made me curious. When I got home the burgers had been deep fried which is what I thought was the case. The quality of the Patty's was below asda economy range. Very low meat content and salty which was cooked to a crispy outer shell and mushy in the middle. That found it's way in the bin. The chips weren't to bad a bit greasy seems like the oil needs changing in the fryer as they were very dark. The curry sauce how can you mess up powdered curry sauce!! It was just above the consistency off water. All in all I wish I had gone else where as I would never eat there again, there were pictures on the wall saying 3rd place in the best fish and chips 2020 since then the standards have definitely dropped.

I had a delivery of a O.A.P fish and chips the fish was good unfortunately the chips were poor The portion was adequate but the chips were like the they were the end of chips left before a new lit were to be cooked

By far the best chippy in Gosport! I use Ocean king personally and for large events. I organise monthly events with supper and everyone loves how fresh the food is. I order 80 meals on average and all the food comes to together freshly cooked and piping hot. Thanks Cathy & Colin :)

Lived near for 2 yrs but always found the busy Forton rd put me off trying to park But tonight I found a space and parked and I'm glad I did :) Probably the best fish n chips I've tasted in a long time .. :) Service excellent.. lovely ladies who served me . Excellent value for money too £3.50 for a more than adequate pensioners portion of fish n chips :) Will definitely be calling in again and they reminded me of the big free car park accessed by roads either side of the chip shop.. and an alley way which exits just by the ocean ..

Just been here this evening for the first time. I can say I'm very Impressed, I had regular cod and chips with curry sauce it was very tasty, plenty there too. Will deffently be going back soon.

I'm so sorry but i disagree with a lot of these reviews. The chips were very dry. The fish....OMG! The batter had some visible weird white powder going through it, it was like eating sandpaper, tasted awful, the fish had a very weird taste too...it ended up in the bin

Poor quality food, chips were not fresh and still served and the sausages are cheap and nasty and remain full of cooking oil. Get some better quality food please

Just had the most amazing delivery from Ocean King Fish Bar, a bit last minute for my dad who has been in lockdown for a year now. So I called the best place I know for a timely delicious delivery asking, hopefully, at short notice. They excelled themselves again, free delivery, timely but the most delicious cod, crispiest chips on the planet with a few little ‘bits’ in the bottom and curry sauce. As a curry sauce virgin I’m well and truly converted. Best fish bar I’ve come across in Gosport. Thank you. Highly recommended and we WILL be calling again

A treat for my son and I .. an OAP cod n chips for me. Jumbo battered sausage n chips for my son and sausage for the dog all for under a tenner. My cod was a large succulent fillet with a wedge of lemon whereas my son loved the crunchy batter and tasty sausage. Chips were a mix of crunchy and soft just as they should be.. and of course my dog loved her treat. A big thank you for the free home delivery with a smile..albeit behind a mask.. keep safe everone x

I love my local chippy.. A lovely family (Hoopers) run chippy. The fish is always succulent .. I love the fillet of cod with crispy batter and served with wedge of lemon with tasty proper chips. To top that they deliver free with a smile. Very reasonably priced.

Lovely portion of fish and chips with curry sauce bought on a whim on way home from work. Chips were cooked just right and fish was extremely tasty with a slice of lemon. Cooked to order so can't really go wrong. No pic cos it didn't stay on the plate long enough!

I liked what i read on their site about using the 'finest ingredients' & the owners experience, etc. sadly i was disappointed, the price for some things were very reasonable & the two young girls behind the counter were also very polite. The chips were overcooked, didn't taste fresh at all & quite firm. The burger was over-done, very dark inside & out & in a dry bun that was very oversized for the size of the patty.

Overcooked mushy fish, I have never ordered from this fish shop before and being a lover of fish and chips I thought I would give this place a go. How disappointing it was the packaging my fish was in was totally socked in oil opening the packaging the fish was over cooked and very mushy had no flavour what so ever apart from a mass taste of oil, clearly the fish has been taken straight from the fryer and packed. (Not left to rest to drain the oil) the chips were ok but not what I would call a fish shop chip. The bread roll was nice well done to the bakers who made these. Maybe this was a one off reading the other reviews the food normally seems to be of a high standard.

Extremely disappointed. Having read the reviews assumed all would be well. 8.00pm order for large cod and small cod and chips; while the large was cooked to order the small was already waiting. Both were very dry on eating. The large portion of chips looked very unappetising as though they too had been previously cooked some time; dark brown, crinkled up and very, very dry. First visit and sorry will not be using again.

Cooked fresh to order, good sized portions and seasoned how we like it, got to be one of the best traditional family owned fish and chip shops ever. Well worth a visit, will be back again soon.

This takeaway is a proper British Fish & Chip establishment, serving good food at a reasonable price. There is plenty on offer on the menu and the food is cooked fresh to order. The staff are friendly and chatty as well. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for fast service and decent food.

Nice tasting chips and just right portions. The price was excellent and I couldn't believe how cheap it was compared to Poole and Weymouth.

We take the dog down to Hill Head and have fish & Chips as a treat on the way home. I've always used the original fish & Chip shop in Lee but we decided to give this one a try. It turned out to be no treat at all. Large cod was very small over cooked and all batter, I can still taste both the fish and oil this morning! The chips had a strange after taste which I'm guessing was down to the oil too. I should have realised when it was empty on a Friday night at 7.30pm in August! It also took 25 mins to get the food as they didnt even have any chips cooked. I excpect to have to wait for the fish but then to wait a further 10 minutes for the chips is lack of prep and customer service. More interested in talking to there friends than service. Being by the coast you should at least serve fresh fish, very disappointing.

Chips overcooked and very crunchy. Sausage was soggy in middle but hard burnt skin. Not very nice.

Such high quality fish and chips, brilliant prices. All cooked freshly for you there and then. People serving are always very pleasant and lovely, chatty etc. I highly highly recommend this place, very pleased to call it my local fish & chips :)

Found out some poor reviews on here are from people who seem to be confusing this shop with a different fish and chip shop with a simular sounding name "KING FISH"... However OCEAN KING FISH & CHIPS are NOT connected in anyway, this may explain some of the strange poor reviews.

Fish still frozen inside. New owners, friendly - but food horrible and health and safety risk. Owners are posting regular positive reviews on here

havent been here for a few years ,went the other night and it was absolutely lush ,haddock and chips lovely ,husband and son had sausages and said they were great , new owner and she was friendly and helpful ,will definitely go back

Chips were undercooked, surprisingly considering the extended time it took to get to me, the the staff were to busy talking amongst themselves with some friends that popped in... really disappointed.

Food in general quite good..Fresh battered fish delicious, however, chips not always cooked in clean oil..

On the first occasion I had to wait while the staff appeared to socialising with friends and giving them priority' so I thought Id overlook this and try when things settled. A month later I tried again and Oh dear! The Fish was over cooked and staff were painfully slow with the orders. A complete contrast with the previous owners. This may be because of inexperience. Sadly this has put me off!

My first visit to this fish and chip shop and was impressed. I'm quite particular how I like my chips and I had no complaints. Freshly cooked cod with light crispy batter with an optional wedge of lemon. Friendly people on the counter too. Well done.

Used this fish & chip shop for the first time last month and must say was very impressed with service and attentiveness of staff. Since then have been in again and felt that one person being on duty was not very easy for her. She was juggling too many balls and the service was not well organised.

Great fish & chip shop. Happy, friendly staff. Chips are crispy on the outside and soft n fluffy on the inside. Given a slice of lemon to go with our fish, which was a nice touch.

Had a lovely lunch from there today, Cathy is friendly and offers excellent customer service. Jumbo sausage and chips was lush hubby had jumbo battered and batter was lovely and crispy.

Just great service, lovely food and at a very good price, its a great local traditional; fish & chip shop, if something isnt right just tell them and they will do what ever they can to make it right. Cant ask for more

Now offer 10% off to NHS, emergency service personal, Police and Armed forces, they also do a great OAP discount.I found the staff pleasant and helpful, they have only taken over a few weeks ago but have already changed to more local suppliers which they display on a chalk board in the shop so you know where it all came from. Much fresher and tastier, I am sure in time they will be the best chippy in town.
