So sad. This used to be a great fish and chip shop but now (new management ?) the batter is soggy, the fish not white and poor quality, the prices have gone up. This was definitely our last visit.

Since this got took over by Indians it’s gone right down hill, I used to be a regular at the great lovely big standard the people before set but chicken tikka chips / sent be violently ill for 12 hours out of both holes same time, a chicken bap 2 weeks later (they were looking inside the big square boxes ring to detect what meat it was) with apple sauce stuffing, that sent me running to the toilet too. Il only ever use them for a plain portion chips if I ever have to. What’s with the vapes and alcohol fridge on counter, it may aswell be an off license - greediness which has hopefully gone against them. Far cry from the high standard English chip shop previous owners/ great staff ran, brilliant people they were. Now half the portions for more money.Such a shame it came to this, I never knew they were selling up. Makes my property nearby devalued, nothing to boast about anymore.

Ordered for me and my mother. Two large fish & chips. Fish isn’t large just a poor quality, mini fish elsewhere! All batter little bit of tasteless fish, is it cod? Chips greasy but dry, very odd combination to pull off. They’re trying to be a chip shop/chicken shop/sandwich shop/ curry shop/ pizza place etc….. I’ve ordered twice, just poor quality food done badly. Concentrate on one business model and do it properly!! It’s a real shame the business has changed hands, it’s blatantly obvious, this won’t properly work unless a huge effort and change is made. Meanwhile the good reviews look highly suspicious. I cannot recommend anyone spending time or money here. Awful food. Slow delivery. It’s not worth taking up space in your wheelie bin!!

Ordered medium bartered chips and a large chicken kebab, it was nasty ! The chips were not really battered , soggy and seemed like they were left over from last week , the pitta on the kebab was microwaved and rock hard at one side , hardly any chicken and salad was not the normal stuff we have had before , drove back to the shop to hand it back and get a refund , three gents poked at it and asked the same questions , what was wrong with it , what was wrong with chips , who served you ? The girl who served me didn’t cook the chips ! Please do not waste your money . It used to be a wonderful chip shop , sadly this is no longer the case

Awful, just awful.. And as you can tell, they are writing their own reviews now. Sad! Stop writing your own reviews and start outputting decent food. Your menu is now way too large, you are sacrificing quality. I have little faith you will turn this around, such is the depth you have sunk to.

I went to The Ocean Boat on Saturday evening with my partner and two children. We sat in a bright part of the restaurant and were very please with how we were accommodated. Food was excellent and value for money second to none! Will definitely be going again!

Sat here now writing this review as I have waited 45 mins for a small breakfast….so far they have come out to ask me if I wanted a white bap with it as they now have no bread! Still waiting and couple next to us waited even longer to then tell us theirs is cold…breakfast was poor managed to find some bread!! Won’t bother again

We just spend £30 IN THERE ordered a disgusting chicken Tikka which I did not eat with bloated chicken and slimy onion streaks. I ordered a fried Snickers -it was a 2cm cube x3 which tasted old and nasty so left that too. Then I ordered curly fries which came stuck to the box with a tasteless discussing cheap cheese on it and totally stale.The kebab meat and chips is less than it ever has been in terms of amount, the meat tasted ok and the chips were stale as pluck. The batter has changed too, no idea what they are doing, but it must be under new management or something...NEVER EVER AGAIN :-( 😓 😩

Obviously buisness has been sold !!!!! Won't be going again !!!!! So poor ....felt for the staff all their hours have been cut ....food horrendous

Been coming here for years and the food was always acceptable - never top drawer. However, in the past few weeks the food has gone to disgustingly bad. The business was up for sale and it's quite clear that there are new owners who haven't go a clue. It's also now very expensive. This is my last time visiting . I don't recommend anyone purchasing from here - they're now far more interested in flogging vapes.

I dont eat Fish & Chips often due to it being expensive. I normally go to Ocean as I like the food from there. BUT this time I realised that it had changed hands. Chips cold, Curry Sauce disgusting, Fish was okay but not as big as it usually is. Its gone from excellent to poor. So I now need to find a new F&C shop as its no longer just a F&C shop but a Vap and Off License too. It is a shame really as I think it may loose some of its regulars.

Never again! Second time I’ve had problems with this place. First time they took money but didn’t have the order gave them the benefit of the doubt this time for the food to come almost 2 hours after ordering and stone cold. Phoned to chase the food up and was told food had left 15 mins ago for it take another 10 mins to come. Phoned again to complain they weren’t bothered and tried to offer credit for future orders. Don’t bother!!

Never ever taken the time to write a review before but feel it necessary to share an opinion in the hope the owners take note. Waiting for around 30 minutes in a very small queue (one customer before me) before they finally took my order. Clearly, very busy sorting out delivery orders and this was priority over the walk-in customers, almost to the point of completely ignoring the large queue forming behind me also. Why on earth the cook staff literally cooks one single item at a time is beyond comprehension. Okay, its fresh but the wait time after the order is finally taken, for the food items to be cooked is just ridiculous. Ordered a battered sausage and a mixed kebab in pitta as the last time i used the chip shop, the Nann bread option was stale and uncooked so I went for the safer option of a pitta... It was horrible. Hard stale donner meat and hard, burnt chicken pieces and in complete honesty, around a quarter portion size than would be given by any other chip shop I have ever frequented. As a positive, the battered sausage was totally acceptable and just as edible as any other I have ever tasted. I live approximately 20 seconds walk from this shop and usually drive to a different chip shop, only occasionally trying this place again, now and then. Last night was 100 percent the last time I waste time and money in this chip shop. They should close the place to walk-in customers and focus solely on delivery's if that is all they can cope with or employ staff that can keep up with cooking the food and serving it to a similar standard as every other chip shop in the area. Pensnett chippy, wordsley chippy, kingswinford chippy and wall heath fryer are all relatively local (short drive) and you wont feel so let down after visiting the place. Total joke. I would be amazed if this place receives a genuine positive review in the near future unless a complete overhaul happens very quickly! And as other reviews have mentioned... bizarrely, half the counter is now taken up with a massive selection of vapes for sale... Its a chip shop (supposedly).

I stood in the restaurant for 20 minutes before I got served. There was only one person in front of me. When I finally got served I had to wait another 20 minutes for my food. The service is terrible. My food was not good either. The batter on the fish was soggy and the fish was paper thin too. The fish had no flavour. Rest assured I will not be visiting this place again

Been coming here for years with no problem. The place now looks like it has been taken over as there’s no regular staff there. They sell vapes on the counter which isn’t a good look to begin with. The staff cooking have no facial hair coverings or hats which the previous staff wore, just a T-shirt and jeans. The fish we had had a funny taste and the scollops wasn’t even cooked!! We took them back and got a refund which they didn’t seem bothered about

Have been popping in here after work with my son for years, and they were always one of the best chip shops around, until recently.. The food has gone from excellent to sub-standard in the last month or so, we had to throw our previous orders away due to them being massively over salted by a new girl who is very difficult to understand. We decided to try one more time, and the decline in the quality of the food is shocking, and now ranks as one of the worst i have experienced. Unfortunately it's time to find somewhere else as it's obviously changed hands, and now sell everything from Alcohol to Vapes, but not great food anymore. Such a shame as they still have some lovely staff left over from previous owner, but i wont be wasting my money in here again, i think too much of my stomach lining.

Went for lunch. The service was very slow. The cod was flakey grey and smelt so strong it tasted off, it had been left from the day before, I could not eat. My husbands kebab was ok but the bread was stale. The chips were lovely, but an expensive meal when just chips were eaten. We will not be returning

The chip shop seems to have changed hands. They've extended their menu beyond what they can cope with and keep track of. They're clearly doing a roaring trade on deliveries but at the cost of over the counter sales. One harassed lady and one young gentleman, both very pleasant, doing their best to keep the queue moving through but the cooking side hadn't even noticed that the chips had run out 'til the server lady told them - and customers then had to wait for further supplies to be cooked. Been using this place happily for a year but I'll be trying out other local establishments now. Wouldn't recommend now - such a shame to see an excellent establishment deteriorate so rapidly!

This place has always offered quality and good value. Not any more I ordered standard cod and chips my wife ordered the value fish and chips with mushy peas. My wife’s fish was so dry as if hanging around or over fried totally inedible. I would recommend you all find a new fish and chips shop that can provide quality food. Without doubt THE very best Fish & Chips in the country. I simply cant eat anyone else's. I drive a 320 mile round trip to the Black Country every fortnight (Football). I couldn't possibly not eat from here on my way home. Thats 19 times a season, and for the last 3-4 years on every visit the chips (battered obviously) are 100% perfect, crispy outside, fluffy inside. Batter sausage, perfect, tinned roe, prefect. Cod ...awesome. Plenty of room to park and enjoy yours chips, or take a seat indoors (just don't order large cod with large chips unless you are eating for 3!). Staff are always smiling too. Could only suggest one improvement... think of a way for me to bag up a weeks worth of chips to drive home with then store, instead of just a bottle of vinegar :-).

Had a not so good meal here about a year ago and left a bad review. And in all honestly, we only decided to give them another go because none of the other local chippy's were currently delivering at this time, but, I'm happy to be able to say that the meals we had this time around were very nice. Came very quickly, hot and very tasty!

We live fairly local and used to use this chippy countless times for the fish and chips which were usually of a high standard. The staff used to be very friendly and fairly welcoming too. We hadn't been for a while but my partner and I decided to call in today around 7pm for a couple of kebabs. I chose a Chicken naan at £7.20 (which I thought was expensive but thought it may be worth it from past experience, and my partner had a normal kebab in pitta) .The server,a young girl with braces was hard to understand and unwelcoming and I had to ask her several times what she was saying as she was mumbling. I thought this very rude. She even seemed to snarl and pull a face at me for asking for my receipt after ordering and paying. I thought it odd that they made the kebabs straight away using cold floppy pre-cooked naan bread for mine. It wasn't until we got home that we disappointedly inspected our kebabs. Mine was the worst I've ever had, small amount of meat and salad and the naan was cold, floppy and tasteless. My partners pitta kebab was also lacking in volume and unappealing. Any chippy worth it's salt cooks a naan to order (or at least warms it up) and slices te kebab meat into the bread on top of fresh salad stuff. They also charge you an extra 20/30p for sauces!! WTF???I'd recommend you simply go elsewhere. It looks like this place has had a change of staff and/or change of management. It isn't what it used to be. Avoid at all costs. I wouldn't care if the kebabs were cheap they were not, but I paid over £14.10 for two terrible kebabs. One of our "go to" chippys, plenty of parking, right opposite the glass cone. We find the food is consistently good which is more than can be said for a lot of chippys.

We visit about once a month usually have the special cod chips peas or curry sauce bread and butter and tea coffee or cordial. £4.50. Staff always friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

Can never fault the food always fresh, hot and portions are good. However for me it's about the overall experience. Maintenance of the building I feel it will put some people off, lights not working, weeds and litter all around the exterior and car park. The place needs a good general tidy up.

If you want a good chippy, this is in my top 2. Good parking, tables if you're early and pay for it but I think you have to ask for it when you get your food because it's not clear.

We came here after my daughter was given the choice to eat anywhere. The meal was a very good price, service to order was quick which you do at a separate window to the take out queue.

We were served quickly and cheerily with some great tasting and well cooked food. My generous portion of chicken chosen from an extensive menu, was complimented by and equally generous helping of crisp, tasty chips. The 'bargain' price was an added bonus which means that Ocean Boat is on my 'go again' list.

We use this on occasions for a quick take out and generally it's acceptable although service can be a bit slow and sometimes the quality can be variable. Wide range of 'chip shop' food, kebabs, pies etc on offer and handy for anyone visiting the Glass Cone

Nice fish & chips but you must tell them when you order that you intend on eating in. We ordered and once we received our food we made the mistake of sitting down, only to have one of the staff come over 3 times to tell us you have to pay extra when eating in. When I offered to pay and apologised they said it was okay to then tell me exactly the same thing. We have been back as I enjoy the food but you only need to tell people once about your seating policy, I’m sure they will understand.

Decided to visit for tea. Plenty of kebab meat and had the battered chips and mushy peas and sat in to eat but it seemed quite cold when it came to the table. Dont think the air con helps though as quite cool in restaurant area. All in all nice but needs to be hot when served.

I only live round the corner but go further afield because this chip shop is awful. 20 minute wait in the queue and two staff serving 10 customers plus two tables in the cafe they additionally have. I can see the southern fried chicken in the glass cabinet and normally the shop have run out of these. So I ask to look at them when it gets to my turn because they are usually dried up. Female staff brings me one piece to look at and I said it was dry and what was the other one like? She answered, " The same a bit dry really." I said, " Can I have a look please?" This was greeted with a tutt so I asked for a fresh piece to be cooked. This was going to take another 20 minutes, on top of an already 20 minute wait in the queue at 7 pm at night. So I asked for a discount in the circumstances and she said she couldn't do anything about that. I asked if the manager could but she said she was the manager. So my son and I made a decision to go elsewhere...into Kingswinford...where we bought 4 juicy pieces of SF. chicken readily available and fresh. So next time I will not chance going to my local Ocean Boat right on my doorstep.

A really great fish and chip shop that have really friendly staff and always really fresh food. Will always be my favourite local chippy.

My first visit to this very popular large fish & chips restaurant and take away. We all ordered the cod and chips which comes complete with bread and butter and a pot of tea. Service was good and our meal was quickly on the table.

This is a great place. If, like me you have some fussy eaters in the brood then here's an alternative to Mcdonalds and the like. And it's good value too.
