Ocean Blue Fish and Chips in Chichester

Lovely, freshly cooked fish. Of course you wait for it, while it is cooked fresh, and well worth the wait. OMG i loved the batter and the chips were exceptional, not like some of the chips that get served up which are limp these days. This is a local business and i was just passing through last week. Friendly staff with some added banter , who clearly know the locals. If i pass through again, it'll be F&C for me !

I spent £10.80 (x 2 people) for a portion of fish and chips which in my experience was smaller than "Small" portion. I had about 4 mouthfuls of fish. My colleague agrees with me. Found the food overcooked. Not value for money. I would not use you again. I feel "ripped-off".

Not the same when not wrapped in paper 😕.

Terrible. Large cod was dry and didn’t even reach both sides of the plate. Normally hangs over both sides. Large chips are hardly large. Used to come in a large box now a small one. Chips look like generic chips not traditional chip shop chips. Food was dry and tasteless. Last time I go there.

I ordered 2 large cod and small chips. Great cod , dreadful chips. They were Undercooked, waxy/soapy consistency and not crisp at all. Purchase was made on the 13th of July 2024.

My heart sank when we walked in to this fish and chip shop. 5pm on Saturday and couldn't believe there was no fish already cooked! We had to wait for 15min. They advertise fast food but it certainly isn't. Greasy chips and tough fish. Unfortunately will not return.

Finally sussed out the variable food quality here which had to be done as its the only F and C shop in the immediate area. Don't go in if the food is being cooked by a man, never go in on a Thursday as the fish is most definitely not fresh. Friday nights expect raw chips, undercooked and just dished out to stop customers getting fed up with the wait. Lunchtimes the food is much better, and if the older lady server rather than the kids or men are cooking then the food is excellent.

Not good! The fish was so dry and the batter disgusting not even sure it was cod. Looked tasted and felt like they had found a cheap ready meal piece of fish that had been forgotten in a freezer and decided to cook it anyway! Yuk. The chips weren’t too bad but definitely won’t be going back!

Well the missus has gone and said it, and called it the best fish and chips she's ever had. Bold statement! Sadly I had the steak and kidney pie. On the upside, what a pie!! Definitely home made, full of chunky steak and offal, and just every bite was a dream. We also had a portion of peas and curry sauce (the curry was banging!), which really topped it off. The only downside is the spam fritter was no longer on the menu, however the likelihood they were saving me from myself.

Would give it a minus if possible. Ordered on phone giving hours notice. Waited 30 minutes in shop when picking up food. Served people out of order. Spent too much time talking and prattling on about crap instead of serving customers.

Rly gd fish n chips and the curry sauce is unmatched

Gave it 4 stars overall as its expensive. The food is top notch though. They take card. The woman who was serving was very angry with the cook on this occasion so made the atmosphere less than welcoming.

Curry sauce and food itself is unreal. But to pay £3.60 for a portion of chips and only get about 15 is a joke

I'm sure it used to be better than this. Seemed as if it had already been cooked once. I will look elsewhere from now on. Shame.

Awful experience, I was actually in shock at the customer service here from the young girls serving. You must ask for everything you want as they won’t ask you if you want anything in your burger or even if you want salt and vinegar on your chips. They even gave me all the food without a bag which then proceeded to burn me as a walked out with it. Food was okay, but the service really did shock me. Definitely not what you would expect in Midhurst.

My second visit this year.....Used to be a destination...Not now, sommink has changed and I didn't enjoy the food again..That's it for now and I will choose other places to see and do the taste a comparison..

Not a great experience. Visited before and food was good but today exceptionally poor, large cod was smaller than their regular size, overcooked in dirty oil, chips greasy. Girl who took the order seems to have a hearing problem everyone was asked WHAT? when they gave their order and it was said with attitude and rudeness… Thank you not in her vocabulary and interested not in the customer but chatting to her mate.

Always get a good portion of chips and cod.

Each time I go here the Quality & Quantity of the food varies. LARGE COD. The fish is sometimes large and yummy other times it’s very thin and greasy. LARGE CHIPS The chips the same you either get a large box full of fresh chips or a medium box full of ones that seem to have been sitting around for a while. I have noticed that it does seem to depend on who is working and on what day as there seems to be quite a few staff members.

Lovely little chippy discovered on way home from Winchester. Not too expensive but has nice atmosphere and the food was excellent. My wife had cod and chips. I had a cheeseburger with hot chilli sauce. Lovely. Would happily stop here again.

Stopped here on a long journey towards Salisbury and the food was brilliant, very tasty and cooked to perfection. Would definitely go again if we’re ever down that way.

Had a takeaway from here tonight and I'm almost lost for words, fish at best average but greasy, but the chips INEDIBLE, I think they must have swept the floor before I went in, brown chewy and hard, it's a shame not only for me as I was hungry and still am, but for them also, if I ran a chip shop I would be embarrassed to serve that to people, but they obviously dont feel the same, anyway I wont be spending just short of £25 anytime soon there again.

Portions adequate size, freshly cooked but a bit pricey for fish and chips, £7.50 per portion. Not greasy or stale, thank you.

Well cooked fish and chips with crisp batter and tasty chips served by freindly staff. It is the first time I have visited this shop and I will be returning as the meal was so good.

nice to find a chip shop open on Sunday nights and the girl who served us was charming and very efficient. Really good meals which all 4 of us enjoyed.

If I could give no stars I would . Large cod was thin,dry and encased in rock solid batter. The chips were soggy , I don't think the cooking oil has been changed in a very long time. Avoid this place ,I certainly will !!

After trip to Goodwood I called in for Cod and Chips, fish was fresh and flakey and chips were great- recommend a visit

What a meal. What a presentation.! Superb large cod in a light crispy crunchy batter. The chips were equally as tasteful full of flavour cooked to perfection. My host who cooked this meal was elegantly dressed partly in a classic suit. Well done, can highly recommend.

Could be more cheerful but good fish and chips is that what matters!

Ocean Blue Marvelous Fish & Chips

Very busy on the day I visited, always a good sign of a decent chip shop. All socially distanced, we were given a number when our orders was taken then waiter outside till it was ready. Fairly quick turnaround considering some people ahead had large orders. Food was hot and tasty. A good experience;)

Drove from Petersfield one Monday evening as ours was closed. From now on I'll alway drive to midhurst for my fish and chips! Best fish and chips I've had around here hands down!

We’ve been doing a bit of a fish and chip tour around the south east of England over the past couple months, after our weekly hikes. Ocean Blue is by far our favourite yet. We pre booked over the phone, and the lady who answered was super friendly and polite, made sure to get the order right. The service inside the shop was very warm, friendly and professional. Hello, service with a smile, goodbye and all that. The food itself was top quality. You can tell when the scampi inside the breaded layer is intact in one piece that quality of food is important to the shop owners. The cod was superb. Perfectly battered, well cooked. Chips were excellent. Curry sauce had a great consistency, slight kick to it and rich in flavour. All served hot and well packaged. Added this spot to my map favourites. Definitely coming here again if I’m in the area.

Staff barely communicated and were too busy talking to each other and not taking notice of the customer. They didn't even say bye just flung me the bag of the chips. I said thankyou and bye and they carried on talking to each other taking no notice of me at all. Not a friendly service at all.

Dropped in for takeaway on a rainy Saturday.Chips were fresh and not overcooked or too oily, fish was well battered and not too oily.Only complaint is the server put the salt and vinegar in and normally I would load it with a lot more.It was fine

We live 30 miles away but often drive through Midhurst. We decided to treat ourselves but instead, felt like we’d been ripped off with rubbery, chewy fish and chips were literally all the leftover bits, half of which were too hard to eat. We never normally leave chips but this was disastrous . Just awful. Big regrets. Never again. Should have checked on Trip Adviser first!

Having read the poor reviews we were hesitant to get dinner from here, but when seeing the queue of people on Saturday night, we thought it couldn't be that popular and that rubbish. We got small and large cod and two chips. It was all absolutely delicious and we were so glad we did go there after all! Definitely give it a try and don't be put off by the reviews!

Drove down from London, remembering a chip shop from waaaaay back in 1990 or thereabouts. Well, I found it and it was definitely worth the drive! Pie done perfectly (seriously scary how badly they are done in my local, never again!) and chips were excellent. Cooked fresh while I waited and pleasant staff. Thank you, I may make the 100 mile round trip again for dinner one day.

The fish is excellent but just lately noticed that half my chips are dregs.. Really poor. Buy your fish here but nip lower down to the Grill for fab chips. Not late at closing. Great owners, miserable staff except the youngsters who are polite and welcoming.

I usuallly have a large cod and their smallest chips . Chips to die for crisp and crunchy. The cod the same with cruncy batter and don't know where it comes from but seems very fresh.

I had a burger which was hard and over cooked Curry sauce was microwave and the chips where soggy will not be going there again

We returned to Ocean Blue when we discovered that they are now serving their take-aways in PAPER cartons not horrid plastic/polystyrene trays!!!!AND WHATA A REVALATION....simply the tastiest fish n chips I have had for a long long time, superb fish, lovely light batter and plump chips, not a bit greasy, just tasty tasty. and the guys are lovely as well!

We normally love this place which is why it's such a shame that recently there's been a young boy cooking the food using the fryer etc. He's clearly untrained, sloppy and off putting and every time we walk in and see him cooking we leave and you can tell everyone else in the shop is thinking the exact same thing.

Chips tasted a bit undercooked, Fish was alright, but the batter tasted like it had been left out too long, served by a girl who looked too young to operate a deep fat fryer.

We’re workin away and was told to go to this chip shop and we travelled 6 miles to get there ... the food was lovely but was put off by a young chap serving that had a big fringe flick that he was ‘flicking ‘ over as he served !!Sort of put us off tbh ‍♀️

What excellent fish and chips. I went with the large cod which was cooked to perfection in a light crispy batter. The chips were very tasty larger than usual. Loved the presentation in the box. Kept things nice and hot.

What a bizarre place - the two ladies on duty were fighting like cats and dogs the whole time I was waiting (which was about 10 minutes) and the one serving was getting every order wrong while the lady cooking was vocally scolding her in front of the whole shop. Embarrassing to say the least.The chips were horrible and the gravy was like brown dishwater. Literally the worst experience I have ever had in a takeaway. Steer clear.

My Saveloy was crispy, i ask for 4 plain sausages, but they all came battered, Actually terrible 😂 and also there was one actual plain sausage and it was hard......

The Ocean Blue fish and chip shop is a great place to go to if you decide you want to have a change from preparing your own meals or for a quick stop off on your way home.I do this from time to time and they fish and chips are always very good.

Fish and chips is a must whilst away and this place was perfect. Lots of choice, even deep fried halloumi( which I tried and was lovely) fish cakes, fish, chips and sausage were the family choices and all enjoyed them with several sides. Serving in boxes made less washing up, bonus! The staff were really friendly too. A great little find

I come here fairly regularly when passing through Midhurst. The chips are delicious and always fresh. They are a bit slow but it's worth the wait for such good food.

Usually really good but went in this week and the gentleman wasn't frying. The food was inedible. The fish was over cooked so burnt batter and chewy fish and the chips were under cooked. Truly awful and went in the bin. Such a shame but I won't be back.

Although the cooking of the fish has been over done on a couple of occasions, this tends to be when a certain member of staff is on duty but I've not seen them for a while now. So maybe this is a thing of the past. I've tried fish and chips all over the south so in my experience this at the top of the very few I would even bother with. Batter light and crispy and fish just cooked so it's glossy white. I don't usually eat chips but I like them here. I usually come here twice a week So I would definitely give it 5 out of 5! Thank you

See a few mixed reviews but I have never had a bad portion of chips ,the normal crew behind the counter are always friendly and its no hassle to stick a scampi on etc . Never had anything which tasted greasy . Have been living away from the area and got back last night , Cod and chips twice and it was lovely .

Stopped off on journey home from seaside...came accross this chip shop. Great service and great food. They even have us directions to the nearest park for our littleone before setting off another hour to get home. Recommend
