Ocean Bay in Weymouth and Portland

Decent Chinese takeaway, it's Cash Only though.

Have eaten from here many, many times. No complaints about the food, have previously left rave reviews. However, this week we found that one item that was paid for was not received. This is something that has happened in the past, frustrating but has always been sorted out. On this occasion the staff refused to accept that they could have made a mistake and would not correct the situation. Meaning that we had paid for food that we never received. As this is a cash only business (it’s 2024 c’mon) we had nothing to prove what had been paid for. I suggest that you ask for an itemised receipt when ordering and always check your order is complete when collecting or having delivered. No customers should be treated this way and certainly not your local regulars.

We phoned to order a takeaway. When we went to collect, we were told it had to be cash only. When I said I didn’t have any, I was told tho and get some!! I asked where and was told where a ATM was, 10 min walk away. When I returned, no discount or remorse

We ordered and had food delivered from here twice while on holiday and staying in Portland. From the guy who took our phone order, to both the ladies who delivered our food the service and quality was fantastic.

Food tasted lovely and the staff are really welcoming and friendly! I received a portion of special fried rice which made a very satisfying takeaway dinner. Also very reasonable prices and generous portions. Will certainly be back for more!

Took a gamble and wished I hadn't. Chicken in both dishes was rubbery and tasteless, salt and Peper chips were undercooked.

We had last night beef chow main banana fritters. Pork curry rice . To be honest I think it's the best we have had on Portland . Taste was amazing . Texture was great . Portion size was good to . In all we will be using these guys from now on

Ocean bay was an excellent Chinese takeaway, but now I’ve had two takeouts and both have been awful. The chips were like cardboard, threw them in the bin, Singapore fried rice was tasteless and dry, the chicken balls were soggy, not crispy. I’m sorry ocean bay but I will not be using you again.

Wow! Very impressed with the quality and quantity of all the dishes I chose... arrived on time and hot! Best Chinese food I've tasted in a long time. Will definitely be a regular customer.

Food turned up cold this is the second time like this from ocean Bay so will not be ordering from there again

Phoned to place an order was told to wait. Waited for 10 minutes which I thought was very odd. Chicken balls half the size, curry sauce half the size, special curry tasted of fat and the meat was half the usual size. Egg fried rice had no egg. So disappointed. Will never use again 😞

A bit pricey but the food is always really nice and quick delivery.

More than two hours waiting for the food and it never came. After two and a half hours we leave ocean bay without eating. So no stars for the food.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😬 You had to shame you.

Arguing to each other in the shop, but worse of all was the food, flavour was fine but next to no meat in our rice dishes, a right rip off!

I ordered a takeaway and it was quick delivery + the food was all good, nothing negative.

We use this takeaway a lot and tonight the food was tasty but lukewarm... It took 1hr 15mins to get to us which is unusual for ocean Bay.. Disappointing, will use again but will stipulate that hot food is required

Not going to comment on the food which was fine, but I payed the delivery driver in cash, and accidentally gave £10 too much. He brought it back. Totally honest. 10/10 on that alone.

Cash only payments, very suspicious these days considering most payments are made by card. Cannot comment on the food as I was unable to buy any.

best chinese in such a long time. food was sublime and plenty of it. the ONLY drawback is they only take cash and in todays society they really need to be able to take cards as fewer people handle cash any more. last week we were forced to use another chinese on the island for this reason and the food was awful. please if you read these reviews invest in a card reader you will double your trade.

Greasy and bland. Our two main courses were supposed to be spicy but were just overly sweet and you could barely taste the chilli. Wish we'd gone to the pub instead

Very quick service and very tasty food, would recommend. Be aware though that they only take cash, no card payment.

Had a chicken and sweetcorn soup and a wonderfully spicy Singapore chowmein. Delicious. Always very quick too . Whenever I order its usually 10 t0 15 minutes. Would recommend

Lovely food, I had king prawn vermicelli (rice noodles) yummy. My bloke had shredded chilli beef with a side of mushrooms. Chilli beef had a bite, nice one. Just to say one thing, the portions are big. I've saved half of mine for breakfast. Very good value . I'm happy it's round the corner , that might not be a good thing 😉

Didn’t get a chance to eat as they don’t accept card, a year though a pandemic and they still don’t accept card! Unable to go to a cash point as we are in isolation!

Ive been eating Chinese for 30 years and this is the best I’ve tasted. Delicious fresh food, seasoned to perfection! Delivered quickly.

Love the food from the Ocean Bay. Especially the BBQ ribs, crispy duck and the prawns in batter. The portion sizes are generous and the service is excellent.

Love the chicken balls from here much better than anywhere I've tasted

Food wasn't too bad, first time having from here and was most wanting to try the chicken balls everyone had said about, collected as thought it would be easier, got back home to realise the chicken balls hadn't been put in! Not a major problem but then had a charge for them to deliver them despite being there mistake!

Love the food only bad thing to say about it is that the chicken on the house special noodles is very dry had it a few times now and every time the chicken is dry othe than that it's good

Had many takeaways from here, normally lovely but after my last meal, NO thank you!! The Hong Kong style chicken, the sauce was so thick you had to cut it, the spring rolls were cremated, chow mein was completely tasteless, and my mushroom curry only had 4 quarters of mushrooms in it, the rest was made up of onion!!! We did eat the rice etc but unfortunately it made myself, husband and daughter ill overnight! When I phoned to complain all I got was "sorry next time, leave the food so we can come to inspect it" I told him that there would definitely not be a next time, don't waste your money and go elsewhere!!

Good Chinese, funny that in England they use mutton, which we are not used to from Chinese in the Netherlands, nice food.

Last night was the first that we've tried the food from ocean bay. We're down here on holiday, and were recommended to try the ocean bay, and we weren't disappointed at all. Everything was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back when we're next in the Weymouth area for a holiday!

Absolutely love their salt n pepper king prawns! Can't be a wait on a Saturday night due to popularity but always worth the wait!

The food was delivered promptly at the time expected and was full of flavour, with large enough portions to satisfy. Our first Portland takeaway of the holiday, but most likely to be the best. Sometimes this type of food fails to hit the mark, however Ocean Bay seem to have managed Oriental perfection with this exquisite cuisine. I recommend the Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken, the spicy fried rice and the king prawn in black bean sauce. My partner had the vegetable chow mein and she most enjoyed this option. Many thanks to Ocean Bay for sending our taste buds on the holiday they rightfully deserved!
