Oceam Trawler in Crawley

This place used to be one of the best around but in recent months it has slowly declined. Quality and quantity is reducing gradually while prices are increasing. Chips are hard and dry and portion sizes are inconsistent. Fish much smaller and a large portion now resembles small elsewhere. Such a shame... time to go elsewhere

Absolutely terrible the last comment chips like bullets dry beyond consumption even the dog wouldn’t eat them! Also so funny you think I’ll get some gods old British fish an chips and then you look at this……. And then think nah your ok! 😭😂😭

I’ve been a loyal customer for over 30years but will never order from here again! Spent over £80 on a special occasion and we received the most hard and driest of chips that no one could eat as they were refried and the staff admitted that they refry chips for delivery as it’s quicker! Rude staff and very poor quality food. Preferred the old foreign man who used to run before but now these new monkeys are all about profit and not customer journey!!!! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS DISGRACEFUL PLACE - OCEAN TRAWLER!!!

As a loyal customer of 7 years, i have never seen a day like this, everyone was moody, it was better before the guy running it all refried abt 3 times, all of the food is greasy, just go to Fish Plaice in tilgate parade

DO NOT order deliveroo from here. They do not include chips as standard, in order. They will literally send a single piece of fish. It made me laugh a bit at how silly and stupid this was. So had to order chips separately. Deliveroo rates this as a 4.5/5 stars. This is incorrect in regards to service. As far as taste goes, it's pretty ok. This is regarding the price as well. It's "pretty ok" for the price. Wouldn't get again.

There is one particular man who works at ocean trawler who is very rude . He speaks to me horribly when I arrive because I’m doing my job and have to go to the front of the que to forward my order number . He also has asked me to cancel a order on arrive because I was late before ? This man has twice spoke to me like this in front of a shop full of people which is poor customer service, all he had to do is speak to me one to one.

Ordered my Friday night Fish and Chips but all I received was CHIPS. Absolute joke, an apology and refund, would not deliver COD!!! How can you miss the MAIN part of the meal???

Popped up here on 1st July, had cod n chips. Batter nice and crispy , not oily . It was a pleasure !

Bought a treat for the family tonight, great service and friendly staff. Nice crispy batter around a juicy good sized piece of cod. Chips were very nice and a good portion given. Lots of choice to be had. I’ll be back again.

Great fish and chips! Not the cheapest but what you do get is piping hot food that is worth every penny. There delivery service is also great if you dont want to go out and collect.

Tried this place when our usual place wasn't open and have never looked back. Fantastic quality, easy delivery via Deliveroo, always piping hot. Definitely Quality over Quantity (which also is very good!) - how it should be !

I went to buy some chips after work. It was fairly quiet with a few people waiting. The lady tried to take my order twice but in the meantime several deliveroo drivers arrived and was told by her colleague she must deal with their orders first. Whilst I wasn’t expecting to my food straight away, it wild have nice to have been able to place my order. The way this was handled was very poor and actually quite rude.

Probably ! We have bought F & C from the Ocean Trawler for many years and we have never been disappointed.

Can honestly say this is the best traditional fish and chip shop for miles and miles, I will go out of my way to travel here. Chips for £2.40 could feed 2 or 3 people, the chips are double-fried. It is a brilliantly run, honest business and more people need to support outlets like this if you enjoy the traditional fish and chip shop. There are limited alternatives for vegetarians and vegans - spring rolls and curry rolls/halloumi chips and so on and hopefully the owner will expand the menu a little given current trends. This quality of food is also available in Bromley in two other shops the are part of a string of chips - successful for a reason, just great food and great value!

I have frequented this take away for over twenty five years off and on but yesterday evening I purchased two meals, consisting of Steak pie & chips and One Jumbo sausage & chips. The charge for those two items was £10.10 !Forgive me but over £5.00 for a sausage and a few chips seems pretty flaming expensive to me, needless to say that’s one take away I won’t be visiting again.

First visit with these owners. Went for two pensioner's specials at £5. Very friendly lady served me. There was only one two seater bench but the lady sitting there offered me her seat as I am disabled I was very grateful. Beautiful freshly cooked fish and hot chips. A few minutes wait was well worth it. I'll be back.

Mi esposa y yo, de visita desde Canadá, estaban en la zona y decidimos hacer una parada para el almuerzo. La comida era increíble y el servicio fue excepcional. El personal era muy amable. Recomendamos una visita a su pescado y patatas fritas e incluso el spam churro.

Fantastic plaice and cod! I was also impressed with the quick and efficient service. The breaded chicken wasn't great but then, you go for the fish after all!

The best fish & chips in town. I recommend the different burgers too which are very tasty ! The staff is very friendly.

Tuvimos una comida para llevar y estaba impresionado por la calidad y el precio. No comer pescado a menudo pero el bacalao que tenía era genial, bien cocinada y no grasienta. La esposa tenía las gambas y también estaba encantado con el sabor y también la cantidad. Bien merece una visita.

Tienes que hacer el viaje al otro lado de la ciudad de probar esta increíble comida para llevar. El personal es muy amable y hacen el mejor pescado y patatas fritas. Los otros platos del menú son también merece la pena probar por ejemplo pollo frito del sur. Nos encanta estar en Southgate gracias al océano fingir ser capitanes
