Mr Chips in Crawley

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the recent order I placed through Uber Eats from your establishment. As a regular customer of Mr. Chips, I scheduled my order to be delivered right when you opened, expecting to receive fresh and delicious food . However, what arrived was anything but fresh. The chips were so stale that I couldn't even bring myself to eat them. It felt as if they had been left over from the day before, despite my specific note requesting fresh chips. This is not the first time I have encountered such issues with the quality of your food. Unfortunately, this consistent lack of attention to detail has led me to question whether I can continue to support Mr. Chips as a loyal customer. It pains me to say that I feel my money has been wasted on a subpar dining experience. I wanted to bring this matter to your attention in the hopes that you will take steps to rectify the situation and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. As someone who has enjoyed your food in the past, I sincerely hope that improvements can be made to restore my confidence in Mr. Chips.

Consistently the best fish and chips in Crawley. Have been coming here for years and it never lets down. Keep up the good work. My family and I always enjoy your fish and chips.

Stale burger buns that are all cracked and low key look mouldy and chips are rank. The burger is very depressing and inedible. Battered sausage is pink. Drinks given went out of date two months ago. Workers are nice though I’m sure it’s not their fault.

Bought fish & chips from Mr Chips yesterday and it was delicious. Prices were good and excellent customer services

I visited Mr Chips in Langley Green for the first time and am very pleased I did. The team working were very welcoming and polite including the owner Mr Chips. The fish and chips were lovely - we noticed the skin on the cod had been removed - not like some other fish and chip restaurants in Crawley. Easy parking was a real benefit - I will definitely return - highly recommended.

Using old oil which is recycled from another takeaway in Crawley. Be very careful.

Rubbish food, cold , chewy and appalling, don’t order

Horrendous - ordered cod and chips. There was literally no cod: it was just batter with no fish in it at all.

Very stale and painfully crunchy chips. Not worth their £4 price point (large portion). Safe to say, won't be visiting again, unfortunately.

Me and my boyfriend ordered food from here today as it was the only fish and chips place open, and I wish we didn’t. It was definitely not worth what we paid for, the chips were chewy and stale as though they had been left out for days, the fish tasted horrible, and the burger, well, let’s say that McDonald’s burgers are better quality than what I got. We were left very disappointed.

Ordered chips from here and battered sausage, and was appalled quality of food, the battered sausage with very poor quality of sausage mainly gristle and fat, also the chips was clearly made from out of date potato’s there were roots sprouting from them and black bruises all over him. Also, I had a horrible earthy taste yuk! Can’t believe that the audacity to serve this to the public, I’ll never order from here again.

Food quality is horrendous, saveloy tasted like rubber, batter on the sausage was terrible and the fish cake, well.. Only nice thing was the service.. but the food. Go somewhere else.!!

I just stopped to have piza but when I was going to order I was told we can’t make Piza and did not want to say why? I was diverted to other menu of fish pies and burgers. I asked for large Cod. I was told shown a small fish ready and this was large Cod. I challenged that this was not a large cod and she said she was happy to give me two of these small fish to equal to large cod. I asked if these were hot and fresh and was told yes. I took these to the Car and started to eat. Half way through the first one I realised it was not cooked fully or it was a bad fish. I threw that away in the bin and I tried the second but before eating, I cut it through and found it was a bad and off fish fried with nice crumbs. Rather then throwing it way or eating it I took it back in the shop snd showed my dissatisfaction and anger at what they had done by selling me bad and off fish. I was told I can have refund if I had paid by cash. But because I paid by Card I could not have refund. When I insisted as to why I was told only the owner can refund cards and he is not in today. I was than asked to leave my number and owner Mort will call me tomorrow to discuss refund. I am not going to trust the owner here and I am going to report this my CC card company to investigate their behaviour Nasser

Chip shop now run by under 20's on a Tuesday, laughing & joking about while you wait, uncomfortable. Worse to come, large chips are £3. 50 & as they were either left over from lunch or just overcooked we couldn't guess, due to previous experiences here we don't usually bother, but it couldn't be as bad as last time? no it was worse. Had a job to make 1 chip sandwich with the best, the picture does them justice as they looked & tasted much worse. We wasted more than 2/3 of chips unable to eat. sorry not a good date on a Tuesday to get chips @ 5pm 1* because we actually managed to eat some. Oh they did have plenty of vinegar on them which helped.

Burger was lame,no cheese and the tiniest bit of lettuce and the chips look like they had been good along time before our order all brown and disgusting

I’m from Yorkshire where I think the best fish and chips come from. Straight off the boats into the diners!how ever wow. Reminds me of home. Great job guys. Thank you for bringing Yorkshire down here!!!

Delicious fish, and nice chips, a little bit pricey and too bad you have to order both the chips and fish separately. But large chips is a very generous portion definitely more than enough for two people and a large fish is enough for one person. 4/5 stars for sure.

People working at the front are lovely, but the burger is just not a burger, a couple of months ago, it would include, cheese, lettuce, onion, 3 different sauces, and a few other things, you ask for everything in the burger and you get white sauce and one soggy small bit of old lettuce. Chips are usually good we did get a batch that tasted like they were old and we're alot colder than usual. I'm not sure if the original chef is still there or not but he was really good and would sometimes give us little leftover bits

I was greeted and welcomed very happily by the server and my chips were served within a minute and the portion was a good size. Unfortunately the chips were very old tasting and not hot and did not have a nice taste to them so only ate half as I found the rest uneatable. If it wasn't for the excellent customer service this would be a one star rating.

Today disappointed & annoyed! Previously we have always had a good experience with Mr Chips going in an getting the food. To show my daughter's family who moved to Crawley today just how good I thought I'd pre-order for the 6 of us to make it easier for the shop, especially given it was a Friday evening. We had to pay the £70+ at order. Told be ready in 10 minutes. Got to the shop, told them it was a preorder told okay. Ten minutes later still waiting, after 20 minutes found order wasn't even started! In the end had to wait 55 minutes to get our food. When got home we discovered not only was the food luke warm but we were a piece of cod missing! Having phoned the shop to request a refund for the missing cod, he suggested we bring all the food back! Seriously! Not good customer service. He also complained while we were in the shop that just eats takes 35% - with respect that is not our problem, perhaps you should not sign up for that service if you do not want to or cannot fulfill that contract. Unfortunately the experience means you will not be getting my daughter's future business and mine is also in question. Shame food is good but clearly getting money directly in your till is more important than treating all paying customers fairly. Especially as we have been regular customers for past 10 years.

I must say my mum went to get fish and chips and was looking forward to eating it the chips look like they was left over the night before and was worn dry brown my little boy had a bit and didn’t eat it I had one then my mum was really up set waste of a 11 pounds fish wasn’t a good colour she didn’t enjoy it and won’t be going down there again when in the bin🙄😡

Ordered curry roll that was advertised as vegetarian, it had chicken in it. Tinniest portion of disgusting chips. And the bread roll was flatter than a piece of paper!!!! Curry sauce was alright. Won’t be ordering again.

Been using this chip shop for over 20 years but recently it has become the worst chip shop I've ever been to. Went in on a Thursday evening just after 8pm to be told no chips left and the fryers were turned off, then again today at lunchtime they said chips would take 10 minutes? The last few times when we have bought food we've just been disappointed by small portions and food that tastes like its been sitting there all day! Won't be returning again.

The smell of old oil for frying the fish and chips when opened. Also it tastes really bad so have to have to throw them in the bin drove to another place and bought it from there.please don't waste your money go elsewhere wanted to give a minus rating for this but Google doesn't allow it so forced to give it 1 star

Literally the worse fish and chips shops I've ever tasted. I didn't have any breakfast but still ended up throwing away 70% of my large cod and was feeling sick the rest of the afternoon. The chios was no better, it was reheated and not fresh. I worked for Mcdonald over 12 years so I know what reheated chips look like and taste like. You couple that up with the pricing and basically threw away £25. Never again

Absolutely awful, it's really gone downhill. Waited 20 mins for 2 pies and a portion of chips. Pies are already pre cooked. Staff were more interested in preparing order's to be collected instead of customers in the shop. When I got home the pies were stone cold and the chips raw. Hence to say I will be giving them a wide berth from now on

Went in to order food at 8:45 and was told I could not buy what I wanted because it would take them passed the closing time which they said was 9…. The website says 22:00 ??

How can they justify by increasing their prices nearly by 70%?!! They are charging £15 plus for fish and chips!! No one will pay this amount, especially with the cost of living soaring! The fish and chips are awful there. Chips are always undercooked, and the fish is far too greasy. You are in Crawley, not London! Stop trying to make out you’re gourmet, when your rating is well below the threshold a takeaway is required to be! The criminal price increase will only decrease this business. I discourage everyone not to purchase from here.

Only 1 star because couldn't give less. Worste dry husk of batter and thin fish I have ever had from anywhere ever. At £7 just for the fish it was no pleasure. I wont bother buying from here again. Update. Feb 2022. 2* Visiting a nearby shop so giving Mr Chips a chance at redemption & fish & chips better. Still not a very generous size of fish & still top prices & not even sure if it was cod but edible enough. I still travel to West Green fish & chip shop rather than here, same distance for me either way & Mr Chips isn't in the same league as West Green chip shop.

Fairly average fish and chips. Expensive in just eat 5 pounds for small chips!!!! 8pound delivery charge. I was underwhelmed by the fish didnt taste like a good cod but rather cheap fish that theyboretend is cood like in the restaurents I doubt I'll use them again due to cost, late delivery and taste.

Want your food to taste like paper that’s just come out of the freezer? Go here! They could legitimately be testing biological weapons for the government.

Ordered off deliveroo , I paid £3 for them to send 3 cheese and jalapeno bites which is a rip off and then sent out a burger with no cheese in it or sauce just some lettuce. The food was cold when received and I will never be using this restaurant again I had really high Hopes.

Delicious Halal food and friendly staff. Has dine-in and accepts credit cards.

Large chips was a small anywhere else. Ridiculous portion size.

Tuesday 6th July,2021,asked my friend if he could pick me up a large cod and chips.fish was dry,like string,and chips pale and under cooked. A special treat turned into a an unpleasant dinner,shame l was so disappointed.

i ordered large chips,3 plain sausage and 1 batr sausage, as i requested can you please make it fresh,and they said ok and goona take 10 minutes,when i get home and open the chips,i upload a picture. you can see how it was .. total rubbish. we didn't eat . just threw that.. thanks mr chip for such a bad service ** deceiver

Had a delivery yesterday, chips and the fish both were proper bitter..had to throw it away..it really tasted odd.i was so disapointed...wanted to call them but they close at 9 on a sunday... Will not go back...

Dry skinny fish definitely wasn’t large and chips were cold value for money no wouldn’t buy again

Ordered on Internet about 8pm ish. Paid on card. Its now gone 9.30pm and shop is closed but no food has been delivered. Terrible service. Avoid at all cost. Will be contacting police 2moro as I'm sure taking someone's money and not delivering is fraud.

Fast and very tasty chippy chips

Absoultyle brilliant staff and the food is excellent and the new menu is brilliant Alot of people take the micky since the drivers from deliveroo and uber eats are not their driver; so when it goes wrong the staff get the backlash when they just try to do their job. Please keep up the good work!

The shop have brilliant staff and the portions on the food are decently sized. Some prices are a little high such as the large cos but that's life when you have inflation. Alot of customers dont realize the drivers they use arent actually their drivers, they wrap the food and wait for the drivers who are paid by deliveroo, uber and JustEat. Most of the time drivers dont care when picking up or delivering food and the restaurant gets the backlash. Please be considerate when ordering food online guys:)

We ordered our usual to be delivered and it was perfect, but then it always is. What was special was the guy that delivered it, He rang the doorbell and put the opened courier bag on the doorstep and then stood way back. This is the safest I have ever felt with any kind of delivery. I didn't get his name but whoever it was deserves the biggest THANK YOU ever.

Poor food very grease not nice very chewy

This is the second time ordering from there ... first time the gravy was like brown gunge and this time the Mars bar was cold and the chips are fries not chips ... I recommend finding a different takeaway place

Would've loved to have given zero but not possible. Chips were very pale, chewy & shriveled. Pretty sure these were refried from a day or so ago. Will not be going again and I would highly recommend avoiding this establishment at all costs. Disappointing!

although the staff there are friendly, after todays visit im sorry to say it will be my last, after getting home and un wrapping the excessive amount of paper only to find a huge greasy mess, all the paper it had been wrapped in was literally stuck to everything and while trying to un-pry it from everything by the time i was done the food was no longer in one piece it was in about 15-20 pieces, the sheer amount of grease on it was unreal and was just plain nasty, the fish did NOT! taste fresh AT ALL!! ( ive worked as a fishmonger in the past and it is deff not fresh) and smelled and tasted awful... im sorry guys but your fish is supposed to taste like fish not like ive just been force fed a ladle of grease

I ordered and paid for large chips the owner gave small and the chips were absolutely soggy with oil I would urge people to avoid this chip shop and the chicken they are selling gave my daughter food poisoning and the owner seems to be bullying his young under age staff should be reported ...terrible!!!

Worst fish and chips I've ever had, suspect they were re heated. The cod was actually chewey and so dry it was inedable. Maybe just cooked too long. Anyway, will avoid in future. Too expensive to get get served rubbish food.

Terrible chips, fish that had been cooked in oil so hot it was dry and burnt. It was very disappointing as we have bought from there before and it had been delicious.

I would avoid this place, as I certainly will in the future. The food was almost cold by the time it turned up late. It was also not very appetising. Plus, to add to the already bad experience, the person during the delivery tried to sell me some drugs!!! A place to avoid!

I have just got home with my small cod and large chips from Mr Chips and it is totally inedible. The chips came out of their pack in one greasy lump...very soggy, quite brown and they taste terrible. The cod is overcooked and very, very dry, the batter greasy and strange tasting. I've given it a go twice but it's awful and now it is in the bin. The worst fish and chips I have ever had and at seven quid, a real rip-off. Never going there ever again.

Glad there is a chip shop nearby. Every chip shop has bad days, however chips are good. Little less oily would be better. I'll be back

I just bought a large cod and chips only to get home and unwrap it to find it had obviously been in the hot cabinet since opening and the fish had literally dried up to virtually nothing! I paid £6 for just batter!!! Won't be going there again!!

The last few times we have been here the food has been disappointing. The chips were piping hot when unwrapped so appeared fresh but the chips were greasy on the outside but so dry and tasteless inside despite lots of salt 'n' vinegar. The staff are always welcoming and polite but unfortunately the food is below standard for a fish 'n' chip shop.

Typical British cheap fish and chip shop. Always a piece of fish on the warm tray waiting to be sold. Better to wait for a freshly cooked piece of fish. The fish I got was dry and baked up. Also, this area of Crawley is full on suburbia and not for the typical tourist., only for the locals. There was a very angry african/english druggie (or drunk) yelling at a young girl in a wheel chair in front of the shop. At one point he yelled, 'so i'm off to jail then!!!'.........Nice.

Ordered a 1/2 pounder got what looks like 2 deep fried pieces of meat in a bun. No cheese no sauce no salad. Terrible accuse for a burger. Was promised a can of drink. Received a carton of orange juice. NEVER AGAIN!

Under the present ownership the fish and chips have gone down hill. Fair enough I did complain about the over the stale chips and fish and was given a replacement, but was just as bad! Its no good taking short cuts with food that people will be disatisfied with.

The owner treats his staff like slaves! He is nothing short of a dictator!!! I was greeted by him bullying a little girl that didn't look old enough to be working there! I was then served COLD CHIPS THAT TASTED BITTER, so I asked for fresh chips "no problem" I was told. When they were fried, the owner mixed the fresh chips with the old ones and re-served them to me! The guy is a total CHEAPSKATE!!! My fried chicken was so dry and salty that I had to bin it. I will never use this shop again whilst the current owner is in charge, the food gets worse every time.

Lunch for 7 hungry airline office staff collected on time, hot , all labelled for £34. Cannot fault the service or quality of food. Decent portions and good value for money

The last couple of times we have had chips from here there have been quite a few chips that have black bits on them. Have to check the chips, pulling off the black bits or putting the worst ones in the bin. Also ordered through Deliveroo yesterday but apparently they don't deliver on that day so sat at home waiting for 3 meals to be delivered that wasn't. No mention of that on the site.

1 star because can't do "0" stars. Positively the worst cod & chips ever tasted. Chips looked and tasted like soggy anemic potato cooked in who knows what. When the cod unwrapped oil was dripping all over the place and the batter, cant think of what it tasted like, but it was terrible. Threw the chips away, scrapped the fish off the batter and just ate the fish. If this is the best in Crawley (as couple reviewers said), then I wont bother trying anymore, I"ll just eat my F&C at the coast in future .......... WASTE OF MONEY

Really friendly staff and we got lots of chips for our money. They’ve got a new coffee machine that makes great coffee. If you’re in Crawley pop in for a friendly chat and a bite to eat - and don’t forget the coffee

The staff were really helpful, the chips were great and the prices were good. My girls had fish and I had a battered sausage, I’ve had better but I’ve also had far, far worse. We will be coming back and it was worth the 5 mile trip to get there.

Friendly staff, great food! In my opinion the chips are the best in Crawley and I love the little Cod bites. The prices are good - I like that you can order a child's chips as other places in Crawley only offer small/large, it's cheap and a good portion. Family recommended them and I've always gone back.

Traditional pie and mash plus liquor well done Mr chips bring back the traditions

We reluctantly came here on Sunday as West Green was shut (our usual). I was toying with trying the Southgate one and gosh, I wish I did! We waited for ages for just 1 chips, 3 fish, curry sauce, peas and 2 pickled onions. Others came in and were served before us which turned out not to be too bad as this meant we got ‘fresher’ fish but it was annoying seeing others coming and going whilst we were still waiting. The lady serving was training I think and her English wasn’t very good, I was asking for 2 picked onions and she said back to me picked egg! No, onions. Got home and I was very unhappy as we only had one picked onion. Some of the chips were inedible looking, all grey and unappetising. There was a reason we haven’t been here for ages, somethings don’t change.

How where the chips? Lovely. Massive portion size and there were no little black ones, or really crispy shards hidden. It can difficult to get decent chips in the middle of the week.
