O'Briens Tea Rooms in West Lancashire

We called in for lunch. Tasty sandwiches and plenty of tea. My only gripe is PLASTIC table clothes. I hate them and made the place feel cheap, which it doesn’t deserve. Would certainly come again.

Visited these lovely tea rooms on a brief visit to Ormskirk. 3 of us were led to a large round table and were quickly served an all day breakfast with the chunkiest bread I’ve ever seen 😂. Breakfast was lovely, and the young blonde haired lady who served us was extremely polite and welcoming Unfortunately we didn’t have room for the amazing cakes we saw! Definitely need to come back!

Fabulous food and really lovely service. The young staff members were bubbly, well organised and helpful. Delicious scones. Well worth a visit.

We often pop in for a bite to eat as it's conveniently closed to good parking and has easy access for wheelchairs, walking frames and prams. The food is always well prepared at reasonable prices and the staff are friendly and efficient. We were also surprised that they were hosting an art exhibition by local artists. It's refreshing to see a local business supporting local artists. Worth a visit for coffee, cake and now culture.

This is a popular venue in the centre of Ormskirk with a reputation for good food and friendly staff. Highly recommend this establishment.

This is a regular visit for us. The good is lovely. Prepared as it's ordered, not sitting round being kept warm. Generous portions at very reasonable prices. Don't look for airs and graces, but it you enjoy good, home cooked food in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, you can't do better than O'Briens.

Had an excellent Christmas lunch with our Friendship group. Pleasant staff and good value. We will be back.

75 Aintree u3a members had our Christmas lunch here again last week. As usual, a wonderful afternoon with exceptional food, great menu choice, fantastic staff who go above and beyond and work so hard. Atmosphere here is so welcoming and you are always sure of a great dining experience. Thank you to all the chefs, waiters and waitresses. Couldn't be beaten.

Christmas lunch today. Excellent as always. Very nice atmosphere, wonderful friendly staff. Meals were served promptly with just enough time between courses.

Brilliant Tea Rooms. Varied menu. Great for lunch or afternoon tea or just to drop in for a cuppa. Well worth a visit. Exceptional value for money. Huge portions. I would say the best Tea Rooms in Ormskirk. Staff are polite and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. I would recommend you book a table particularly on Thursday Market Day or you may be disappointed.

Food is delicious. I had salad, my friends had pie and chips, which were massive. Big pot of tea, what more could you want, fantastic. First time I have been and will definitely be going back.

Our food was outstanding as usual poached eggs perfect .. service with a smile an chat as always .. lovely atmosphere an pleasant happy cheerful staff as always .. never ever disappointed no matter what we order breakfast or dinner .. even down to hot drinks it's all made to perfection xxx

Arrived at the venue for a 12.30 booking, table was dirty and wet from previous customers, asked for the table to be cleaned handed a piece of blue catering roll, so we cleaned our own table, sat for nearly 20 mins without being asked what we what to drink no menu’s given to us, waitress came over to get our order she then realised that we hadn’t had a menu or ordered drinks, she took our drinks order and got us some menus she duly brought the drinks, a short time later she came and took the order, then we waited and waited for the food after being in there for nearly an hour, the food came out, food was fine home cooked chips and homemade coleslaw. We then asked for the bill twice before it was brought over. Will be a while before I return due to the very poor service.

Great food. Been to Ormskirk loads of times and passed this by to go to other cafes, wish I hadn't. Food was really nice and good value for money. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

O'briens is a lovely tearoom in Ormskirk, West Lancashire. I have been there many times, both with my husband and a friend. They do breakfasts and lunches. They cater for large groups, couples and just individuals. Their menu is varied and they cater for vegan and gluten free.

Fantastic food, very tasty, big portions, value for money, great service. We try to go at least once a week it's that good.

I have had 4 meals here in Ormskirk's gem and the food is delicious. Every time the plate has been put before me, I have gasped out loud at the quantity and presentation. I tried the cakes twice, but for me they looked better than they tasted. So I'll just stick to the fantastic savoury food! It's a popular place and you can reserve a table. Right opposite Morrison's, so handy for car parking too.

Great experience from start to finish. Took the mums out for afternoon tea. Would highly recommend

Excellent lunch very nice staff

Went with my wife and two girls for my birthday. I had the large breakfast, my wife had poached eggs my girls had eggs benedict and waffles with banana and crispy bacon. Every thing was delicious. The staff are very friendly. Very reasonable price's, I can highly recommend.

They have lovely bread, bacon and eggs. The sausages were not as good as quality, but for a fiver you can't really complain. Looks like they do a good eggs Benedict. A good party of 20 odd people and the staff dealt with it admirably.

Luckily our friends had prebooked a table, as folk were queuing at the door to get in! Prompt, efficient, service and an excellent meal. Only regret being that we were too full to be able to get a slice of the wonderful cakes on offer. I was completely spoiled for choice, anyway. Will definitely be going again.

Went for an Ormskirk lions club Sunday lunchtime and had a super meal and the service was great.

The best place I have ever eaten at. You get the best of everything, nothing is to much trouble from the staff, it's what you need when you go out for a lovely meal. Getting treated as you expect.

Delicious fresh food. Iv seen comments about the decor being dated ect but it works and honestly it doesn’t matter. The food is delicious for such a price. It’s a really great little place

Our first visit yesterday and will definitely be back. Excellent service on a very busy day, food was freshly prepared and extremely tasty and good value, didn’t need anything to eat for rest of day! Staff very pleasant and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back and sample some more delights from their varied menu.

The price of the food is good, and tastes amazing. Service was a little slow today but as every table was taken when we entered that is ok. There is a really good choice on the menu and sure there is something for everyone.

Wasn't very child friendly we felt out of place and very awkward

First time there with my wife on a visit to Ormskirk,what a nice experience the staff were brilliant and the food was all fresh,took me back before fast food was popular.

Staff are exceptional lovely friendly can't do enough and care so much for the customers A good choice on the menu we changed our minds so often then noticed all day breakfasts which was excellent 👌 even the lovely butter spread easily over the thick cut brown bread all ingredients were spot on and cooked just right there was a lovely ambience in the room so relaxing even a little girls birthday cake arrived everyone joined in so good we booked for the excellent afternoon tea which we are very much looking forward to five stars easy thank you all for a lovely afternoon

Staff were friendly and on arriving - about 1pm - took us to a table straight away, but we were waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order. Ordered 2 drinks and 1 slice of cake, cake arrived but drinks were another 10 minutes later. I ordered carrot cake, which the sponge was nice but the icing tasted slightly of garlic? Not sure why. The restaurant wasn't overly busy even though it was lunch time, so I'm not sure why the long wait to order? Would perhaps return at a different time to see if this was just a one off, and maybe try a different cake.

Best bacon on toast.Roast sirloin bef sandwich today. Delicious. Children's menu is great too. Food is excellent. Quality at great price. Staff are brilliant. Efficient and friendly. Always visit here if in Ormskirk.

Fabulous place staff great, food great could not ask for a better place

Couldn't believe how large the restaurant was very clean and a lot of choices on the menu at reasonably prices.

O'Brien's tea room feels like a relic of the past in many ways, which is why I find this review hard to write, as I'm clearly not the audience catered to. Despite this, the atmosphere feels drab, and extremely outdated. The service felt sluggish and quite sad at times, with very few people even providing service with a smile. The food was extremely diverse in terms of selection, even providing a katsu curry, which was interesting to see for a tea room. However, upon ordering it's clear to me that this diversity may be too far in some aspects. The katsu part of the curry was great, the chicken was well cooked, and the breadcrumbs were a nice golden brown, but the curry itself was not that of a typical katsu curry sauce, and upon requesting why this was the case, I was informed the chef had done it since college. Odd for sure. My partner also ordered a chicken & chorizo skewer, which had undercooked chicken, but the chefs fixed this as soon as they could, and removed it from the bill to apologise. The cake was fantastic, although for the price I was paying it felt like it was rationed out to me with quite a thin slice, which only made me feel like the place was stuck in a time warp even more. Overall, my experience here was not the best, and from what I've seen from other reviewers it could just be that either I'm not the audience catered to, or I came on an off day.

Proper portions, delicious food and great prices. The place is also very quiet and the staff are very helpful.

Went here before Xmas last year to have lunch with my ,cousin and Aunty absolutely a dream To go to …..food was absolutely cooked to perfection. Lovely staff and excellent table service we like trying various locations for lunch in Ormskirk and this is now in my top 10 of ideal places to go to

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Four family members enjoyed a delicious Christmas Dinner last weekend, two courses of top class food. Our starters were exquisite followed by the best Christmas dinner I've ever tasted- crispy roasted potatoes, a large serving of turkey with all the trimmings, excellent portions, we didn't have room for dessert. Staff are friendly, attentive and the whole experience put us in the mood for Christmas. Thank you O'Briens we will definitely be returning.

I usually go every week with a group of friends for breakfast or lunch. We booked for Christmas dinner it was amazing. The food was excellent cooked to perfection and the service was fantastic, staff where friendly and could not do enough for us. Would highly recommend

My sister had only just been chatting with friends saying she hadn't done the very popular "afternoon tea" experience, when we were both invited here as a little surprise gathering for our cousins 40th birthday. (Quickly washed down with Prosecco, haha) we had a lovely afternoon here with our friends & family, food was delicious, drinks were flowing, waiting on staff were always close to hand, as & when needed, very attentive, overall service was second to none! Highly recommend this place to all.

Unbelievable food at a great price

O'Briens is a brilliant place to go for great food the best in Ormskirk and great service. The food is such good value for money, great quality and choice, cooked perfectly. If you've never eaten here give it a go, friendly staff great atmosphere you wont be disappointed.

Food is excellent. Good size portion, very reasonably priced. Always busy so a wait on orders . Don't expect to be able to just walk in, people often turned away as place is full

We’d read good things about O’Briens on TripAdvisor, so we decided to give it a go on a wet Saturday afternoon. They have an extensive range of teas & cakes which you would expect and these were served as expected. However, the place feels more like an events venue than a traditional tea room and the service did not reflect the ratings we’d observed before our visit. Whilst the place was clean and inoffensive there are a number of places in Ormskirk that offer a more choice, better service and a more inviting environment.

We visited O'Briens this weekend for a birthday celebration and long over due catch up with family. After our long drive over from North Yorkshire we were met by a very happy and polite member of the team who showed us to the table.We often visit O'Briens when visiting family in the area as it caters for all our dietary needs and the food is always amazing. As usual we were not disappointed by the food.....it was delicious, well presented and plenty of it! Gary the chef - you are truly wonderful and it's a good job we don't live nearer otherwise we would be in here all the time!Service was perfect, another reason for always wanting to come back here too. Staff attentive, happy and polite despite them being so busy. My husband had organised a birthday cake which the staff brought out and then proceeded to sing 'Happy Birthday'. Lovely voices by the way ha ha In all, our experience of our afternoon visit was outstanding.Thank to to all the staff at O'Briens for everything. We really appreciated all of your hard work during still 'tricky' and challenging times, which some people still forget. You are all amazing people who put on a smile and welcomed not only us, but every customer who came through the door with such warmth. Nothing seems too much trouble. Our visit was long over due but we will be back soon. Thank you all once again - a truly hidden gem in Ormskirk.

I visited O'Briens tea rooms with my family. We have been coming here for many years and have enjoyed fabulous food, afternoon teas and Christmas lunches. The food is always lovely and service great.However 2 weeks ago I was having lunch with my family and experienced the most awful customer service ever.The young lady serving the table appeared to be in a bad mood and was rude and inhospitable. When my lunch arrived I asked her to take it back to the kitchen as it wasn't as I had ordered. This request was met by a barrage of abuse during which she announced that she did not need to take 'this grief' from customers as she was on 'minimum wage'. She then snatched my meal and left the table before announcing that I had 'probably never had a proper job in my life'.As a nurse who has worked throughout the pandemic I was deeply insulted. My meal came out a few minutes later but I did not enjoy it, I was in shock at being spoken to in this way. I asked to speak to the duty manager who apologised on behalf of the young woman but I did not receive an apology from her, advising that she had asked the staff member 3 times to apologise but she had refused.I asked to be contacted by the manager however this didn't happen.I have since spoken to the owner (I called him for an update) who really didn't seem concerned about his staffs behaviour or the fact that I was deeply upset by it, he actually stated that I didn't know what was going on for that staff member that day which I believe is insulting in itself.Sadly I won't be returning to O'Briens, as a nurse we are subject to regular abuse by the public, I certainly don't need to go to a restaurant and pay for it.

Poor staff, dated decor but food was good

We had heard so many good things about this place so we decided to give it a go for lunch.The welcome was immediate and we were taken right to our table. The menu followed and we were amazed at the variety of food on offer.We ordered a ploughman’s, lemon chicken salad, a club sandwich and the chunkiest, crispiest chips I have ever had! I honestly didn’t think that my husband would get through his gigantic club sandwich – it was full of delicious content! They are proud of the fact that their food is home made and it was ‘tasty obvious’!The orders emerging from the kitchen were mouth-watering! Gigantic cakes were wheeled to your table for you to peruse and select, and the staff served you with pride. The girl that served us told us that they were short staffed but the personal attention we all received told another story – they all worked so hard together as a great team serving such good homemade food… great value for money!Customer service was premium and I would like to thank Liz, Joan and the rest of the team for making our first time here special – we will return for the famous ‘O’Brien’s afternoon Tea!’ Thank you, Team O’Brien, – Please keep it up with your exemplary standards in hospitality. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem of an Ormskirk eatery! PS. They are also advertising a very tempting Christmas Menu at the moment- £15:50 for a three-course meal!
