The Fat Italian in West Lancashire

Went today for lunch for the first time. What a lovely place. Staff very friendly. The food was outstanding and excellent value for money. We have booked again for next week and will be making this our regular to go place.

The restaurant has an authentic feel and the staff were absolutely lovely. The lamb shoulder is to die for, just melts in your mouth. Thank you Taya for your 5* service.

Nice food, very expensive drinks. Felt a bit rushed at the end when the waiting on staff removed plates whilst one of us was still eating.

This place was booked for a party of 12 for my granddaughter's 21st birthday, service was slow as it was 30 mins before somebody took our starter order and drinks order, another table in same room was a party of 12 blokes who were shouting over each other all the time we were there and it was so bad a couple trying to have a quiet meal asked to move to another room, service for main meal was a bit quicker and all the food was very good,did not agree with the extortionate service charge with all the noise we had to put up with.

Fantastic food great service only down side for me was the price of the drinks over £5.00 not even a pint over all we had a good yime

8 of us had a lovely early evening family meal here on a Friday. Our age range was from 86 to 23! We all enjoyed our food - including 86 year old Rosa who was born in Sicily and knows a thing or two about Italian food! The service was efficient and very friendly. Many thanks to Lexie and Taya for looking after us so well.

Taya was such an excellent waitress! she had such an amazing energy she was so sociable and constantly checked we were ok! always making sure we were having the best time for my bestfriends birthday. couldn’t be happier with the service we received

Our night was amazing. We went for our friends 18th birthday and our waitress Taya made our night so special, she made sure we were all enjoying ourselves and was very attentive to our table. we stayed later and were never made to feel like we were being rushed or that they were trying to make us leave.

We thoroughly enjoyed our food and particularly appreciated having a whole vegan menu to choose from. We swapped dishes and both enjoyed everything we ate. Staff and service could not have been better. This was our first visit but we hope to return at the soonest opportunity.

The food was absolutely outstanding and was served with a smile. Jess, our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. She went above and beyond, to make sure we had a fantastic, comfortable evening. We will definitely return.

We booked a meal for my husband's 40th Birthday celebration for 18 of us. It can be a little overwhelming with a big family group especially with children but the food arrived quick and the children loved eating all of the yummy Italian food (it was a massive hit). The staff were very helpful, friendly and couldn't do enough. The food was delicious and we all had a lovely time. We are looking forward to coming back for a date night soon.

Venturing around Ormskirk, we stumbled across this devine Italian restaurant known simply as the Fat Italian. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to be accommodated if we only had the table for one and half hours. This was ample time for us to quickly glance at the early evening diner menu. We chose the spaghetti & Meatballs and the Spicy Beef Alforno. Both reasonably priced at £9.95. The quality of the food was absolutely fantastic, both dishes tasted lovely and you could tell both were freshly prepared. We had a lovely evening and would definitely come here again if we were ever up here in the North West. Spacious car parking is free for diners at the rear, scrupulously clean toilets on the lower level. Staff on shift were very professional and very attentive and friendly. A lovely ambience inside, spacious tables and booths. An exceptional restaurant 👌

I went here for tea with my boyfriend, on arrival they asked if we had any restrictions or allergies. I explained I needed low/no salt. We were then seated, a waitress came to speak to me and asked what I was thinking of eating. I said lamb and she said she would speak to the chef to see how much salt it contained, she returned and explained the salt content. I agreed it was OK. When the meal was served it wasn't salty at all, I asked if it had been remade and she said she would check. The chef had totally remade the gravy and included absolutely minimal salt, it was incredible. I have never been accommodated so fully. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation, everything I ate was delicious and accommodated my restrictions. Absolutely thrilled! Service in general was great, very well looked after. Great atmosphere. Leftovers were able to be taken away with no fuss, Food was bagged in separate pots.

Cannot fault The Fat Italian. Normally go to the one in Crosby and the Ormskirk restaurant did not disappoint. I get the same thing every time the vegan roma pizza- I can honestly say its my favourite pizza anywhere and I have eaten pizza in Rome and Sicily! The garlic oil is amazing. Staff in both restaurants are wonderful too. I love the decor and all the pictures on the walls. A lovely taste of Italia in the North West.

Booked a table for 8 of us on 30th November 2023. Politely greeted and shown to our table. Given the evening menu and a special menu offering 3 courses for £29.95. Ordered drinks which were promptly brought to the table, everyone placed their order. As we waited for our food to be cooked I noticed that we all still had our coats on as it was -1c outside and not much warmer inside the restaurant. I felt the radiators and they were off. Spoke to waitress to turn the heating on, she explained that due to the weather pipes had frozen and the heating would not work. We were given our starters after about 20 minutes I noticed the air conditioning heater had been turned on. No complaints about the food it was very good. We asked for the bill, my daughter then began to go through it and felt it was too high. So went off to see the manager to discuss it. Returned minutes later to inform us we had been over charged £40. I won't be returning to this restaurant as it had no atmosphere, cold and was over charged.

This was very good! The food was great, I ate the black budding stack, which was very tasty but the sauce was slightly bland. I then ate the steak stack thing. This was very nice, but not enough sauce. Dessert was a sudden which was very good. I'd reccomned and really like it here.

Staff got the tables mixed up so people ate at different times, starter chorizo bruschetta couldn’t taste anything like chorizo, disappointing, main was steak stack, steak was cooked well although one in out party ordered it rare and had to send it back, they stack it with potato rosti which was not nice would have preferred just the steak, you also got chips which were okay, although for£25 expected a side dish of vegetables, the room was hot and stuffy with too many tables

Nice food, a bit slow on service

There are plenty of vegetarian options and at a decent price/ portion size. I've only put 3stars on service because my companion had to wait 30 minutes for a lasagne but we were warned at the time of the wait. Really enjoyed our food and we'll be back again.

As a family we were staying in Southport for a few days on a break and having done some research we stumbled onto this place, how glad we did.Rang them and they managed to fit us in. A couple with a 4 year old. On arrival it's on a fairly busy road with plenty of parking at the rear, staff were excellent, the food excellent and service was also excellent. My daughter booked a meal as they advertised a Gluten Free menu. Large GF menu plenty of choice. Only when you get there they cannot guarentee it is GF so it is all a lie. They are trying to profit from people with a life changing disease. This is not a choice you can die from eating gluten if you are a coeliac. They advertise to get you in falsely. It is like they are making a mockery of people who are ill. They just see a chance to get money out of people under false pretenses and no it is not GF I have been ill since I got home and all day today am hoping it eases off by tonight and I can have some sleep. Stupid stupid people !!!!

I was looking forward to this meal with my family. I ordered Prawn Cocktail as my starter. The dish said clearly on the menu it came with Marie Rose sauce. My prawns and salad were sitting on top of some pink water, it did not have the consistency it should be.It was tasteless. I showed the waitress who agreed and said she was going to show the chef. I didn’t see the waitress again and the item was on my bill. I didn’t want to cause a fuss in front of my family so I payed. I felt they did not care. Very average!

My wife and I booked to dine here at 1915hrs on a Wednesday evening when we arrived we had to wait a while to be taken to our table the place was packed out however once seated all went ok with friendly and helpful staff the bread and dip starter my wife had was very good I was not so impressed with the black pudding stack however both main meals were good especially the seafood spaggetti .What was surprising was although early evening was that 2 of the 4 things on the specials board were sold out.You will need to book if you wish to dine here.

My daughter fancied pasta whilst we where on holidays so trip advisor to the rescue with a local one near our air bnb. The staff where welcoming and lovely. Spotless clean restaurant. Food was most delicious and we all scrapped our plates clean. Will definitely return when next in area.

It was our first outing as three really good friends since the start of the year. We were made to feel very special and welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was incredible and the service was second to none. We never had to refill our glasses as there was always a member of the team keeping an eye open and refilling them when needed. Went here Bank Holiday Monday and socially distancing was good and we sat in the new outside area built for reopening. Food is tasty and service on the ball. Worth a visit.

Because of restrictions, the Fat Italian have provided a purpose built, outdoor shack. It is a heated, cheery, covid safe environment. Amazing, friendly staff, as per usual and beautiful food. Would highly recommend and cannot offer any criticism whatsoever. Thank you!

Just had a wonderful meal, during Covid all guidance adhered to. Food was lovely all freshly cooked and good quality. Service was spot on. Lewis the manager was amazing and really helpful, we wanted to try the traditional Italian liquors and he walked us through them. We went for my birthday on Saturday 17th . We both had different starters of the special board which were great. For the main my wife had a fish with squid and prawns and I had steak with langoustines of the special board. I'd asked for it to cooked very rare, it arrived medium rare and the langoustines over cooked and just mush inside. They did knock £4 off the bill langoustines. Over all the food is good but over priced for what you get and so are drinks. We decided not to have a dessert. The staff are very friendly but the service a little slow. PS. I got a pizza on the way home. Steve.
