Oakland & Son in North West Leicestershire

I visit this place regularly, the food is great, the staff are great! If you are local to Derby or Nottingham or are going to the airport, you have to swing by and grab a cake or a breakfast!

Just the best breakfast stop in the area, all products are excellent, Sausages are the best I have found in the East Midlands. Everything is well cooked, fresh and top quality, just don't miss it!

Wanted to visit the hidden gem, but they closed, so we had some bites here, was good carvery baps! Cheesecake was nice and looks like good meat too.

Oaklands is an amazing place, selling good quality fresh produce like meat, pies, bread, cakes and ready meals. On top of that they serve takeaway food from bacon butties, hot meat sandwiches, full english and daily specials like spicy meatballs, chicken tikka and rice and jacket potato and chilli. Everything is made in house from quality local ingredients. The prices for everything except the cakes are reasonable for the quality. The only issue is the queues.

My husband and I were staying in the village and our lunch wasn't included in our hotel package so decided to source this in the village. The Oakland's was a food shop with a butchers attached. There was queue which was a good sign. We had carvery sandwiches pork, beef or turkey. I had pork which was brimmed with slices of pork and the stuffing I requested. My husband got a beef and gravy bap and again was full of tender meat. The coffee and tea were also good. For dessert I picked an inside out bananoff cheesecake which was to die for. It was so good we returned the following day to an even bigger queue but were quite happy to wait for our delicious food. Highly recommended this bakery

We had a ham salad roll that was bursting with filling and a hot beef and stuffing roll. Both were very tasty, there were so much to choose from it was like a sweet shop.

I revised Oakland and Sons some time back. I thought I would take the opportunity to do so again. Oaklands used to be a busy village operating out of a small double-fronted shop on the village square. Some time back it bought moved to the site of a closed Pub - the flying horse. Paradoxically, the old butcher's shop became a pub!!! When I last reviewed Oakland, I complained about the miss-mash of queuing that mixed up where to access the butcher's counter, the deli' counter and the takeaway hot-food counter. This has improved a little. Oakland now also has a cafe at the back. It is still a brilliant and helpful butchers (with most of the previous staff) but has taken the opportunity to modernise whilst still offering old-fashioned service ideals.

Visited Oaklands on Saturday for breakfast and found the owners, staff, venue and food just outstanding. I had a great sausage / egg roll which was cooked just perfectly on a freshly made bread roll. You can dine in the seated area in the back room along with ample outside seating too.There is also a substantial parking area for customers adjacent to the property.If you passing through Kegworth then an absolute must foodie pit stop.

Recommended by a local. Glad I don’t live somewhere with such low standards ! Stopped serving lunch at 1300. Honest ! Staff not interested in service. Food average at best.

I recently moved to the village and Oaklands was recommended to my wife and I by a neighbour as being somewhere we need to visit.. Boy they weren't wrong! the food is excellent.Things are made by them and sold by them. We had meat,cakes and pies but as yet not tried the cooked food yet.The negative side- Not cheap but no-one minds paying for quality.-also too many people have also found it so queues can be 3/4 deep.Well worth a visit and well worth moving to Kegworth for

We are so lucky in Kegworth to have Oaklands. It was busy before it moved last year and it is bigger and better now it has moved a few doors along into the old Flying Horse pub location. It still has the traditional butchers but has now increased its Deli' and food offerings. In fact, where else would you find a place where a butchers swaps with a pub and a pub swans with a butchers!! It has its own car park and service with a smile. The oddities of Trip Advisor seems to think this is a restaurant, so she of the answers below are not applicable.

Oakland’s is my local butchers, deli and coffee & cake place and on all three accounts it never fails to please. The hot and cold food are always of excellent quality and there’s always a great range of sandwich fillers. The staff are friendly and efficient even when the queues are out of the door! The lounge area is cosy and makes for a great place to eat if you have the time. Otherwise a takeaway box is always available. Well worth a visit for a breakfast on the move or a lunch at a leisurely pace. I couldn’t have got through maternity leave without a flapjack, coffee and sandwich a few times each week Ps the mocha is to die for and that no easy task in my opinion!

My husband and I visited on Saturday. What a place. The range of fantastic and delicious, mouth watering cakes, cold meats, cheeses and a vast array of rolls, bread. It is a delight. I just wish I lived nearer (we found it driving through the area). The staff were wonderful and friendly and the food second to none. We will certainly return.

If there’s one thing I know it’s fry ups. And the one at Oakland & Son is without a doubt the best one I’ve ever had. Top quality produce, warming friendly atmosphere. Couldn’t recommend the place enough. Will definitely going back and telling every man and his dog about it.

Great food now even better since they've moved Fast service, beef to die for. Best burgers for miles, so much selection. Now got a seating area, brill.

We’ve recently moved to kegworth and I was told by friends before we moved to make sure I try the local butchers. Well what can I say Iv been a fair few times now having tried the breakfast cobs and the hot beef and gravy rolls at lunch I’m hooked. Oh and the fresh meat is really good quality and reasonably priced with a very wide selection to choose from.

If you can negotiate through the barriers put up by the road contractors during the current road improvements you will enjoy the facilities and the food on offer at this cafe. Formerly a village pub this is now a very popular deli and bakery serving loads of takeaway treats for the locals. The cafe at the rear is not large but is very comfortable ( there are also tables on a terrace at the front) the breakfast was really tasty and good value for money. The standard latte was a little on the small size. Will call again for cakes next time.

The fact that they serve cappuccinos and espressos with Illy coffee says it all: excellent value and at a very reasonable price.

We are lucky enough to live round the corner from this butchers. Regularly go in the morning for a sausage/bacon cob. Breakfast cobs are the best I have ever had, and have met people who live over an hour away who agree too. Also offer special lunch options (eg. Pork/stuffing cob, chicken flatbreads etc) and always delicious. Also great quality of in house baked cakes/breads, and obviously good meat from the butchers. Now has a lovely seating area too, and benches outside for summer. A “must stop” if ever in/passing through Kegworth.

Everything I’ve ever had from here, be it a breakfast cob, lunch, cakes from the deli or stuff from the butchers has been superb. The breakfast cobs are amazing & you genuinely couldn’t make it yourself for less. Just wish they were open on a Sunday for brekkie

This place is in the heart of Kegworth, and is an absolutely fantastic place to eat and relax,the staff are excellent friendly and the food would even stop Gordon Ramsay swearing, it's simply as good as it gets 5*

The new premises are a triumph. Live lounge for eating in. Same great produce and friendly service in new room fresh rooms. Will now be visiting regularly for coffee breakfast or cakes not just when I passing in my way somewhere. Live it

I have visited many times and never been disappointed. Everything is made fresh on site and it shows in the quality of the meat and the hot food counter. Staff are super efficient and friendly. The best sausage cobs in Leicestershire!!

Amazing butchers, deli & cob shop, Great for Breakfast, Lunch and then you meat for a Saturday night or Sunday lunch, high recommended.

Just o9ff the M1 in the centre of Kegworth. It seems all the van drivers come to get their breakfast/lunch. The cobs are excellent as is the meat on sale.

Great food great coffee value for money. Busy which is good to see in such a small village and the food looks so tempting i couldn’t pass it by. Plenty of staff to keep the queuing to a minimum. Good job I’m just passing through or I would go every day. Huge variety of food well cooked and presented.

I love everything about this place - their pork baps (you can choose white, brown or granary) with stuffing, apple sauce and scratchings! Their daily specials and wonderfully fresh cakes in the fridge section. The sausages are SO tasty that when I cooked some to go in the granary baps I did not want any sauce so I could enjoy the full flavour. Oh and the chicken samosas and scotch eggs are just fantastic. If you're on a diet (why would anyone do that to themselves) don't try the shortbread because it will be your new addiction! And no matter how busy they are, I always get a smile and hello from Julian, Debbie and their team.

After reading reviews, we were enticed by the hot beef baps. As we visited on a Saturday there was only pork on the menu, however it didn't disappoint. The bap was filled with pork, stuffing and apple sauce all for £2.75. This place was very busy with a non stop queue of locals. The produce in the butchers was very appealing too as was the bakery bread.

Wow, usually pop in the butchers for breakfast cobs, packs of cobs, sausage rolls, home made quiches etc from the deli which are all superb (especially the chiabatta melts at lunch time) but my partner told me to pop in today as he'd seen some delicious looking kebabs in the butchers window- purchased 6 minted lamb kebabs and they were amazing, no fat, perfect chunks of succulent lamb with peppers, fully recommend and will definitely be returning for the wide range of chicken kebabs they had available. Clean, well presented premises with friendly, helpful and professional staff. Don't go past the market place in Kegworth without stopping off- you will be spoilt for choice.

A great selection of top quality food, friendly staff, really is the best place around for breakfast or lunch. There's a reason why people continue to que out of the door every day for there lunch. Highly recommend.

We have been visiting this deli for their hot beef baps when weh ave been in the area for the last 10 years. Called again recently on the way to the air port and we were not disappointed. Quality never falters and such generous portions.

Good cuts of meat, really butchers. Bread fresh and lots of other items to buy. They now do good take-away meals, or sit outside and enjoy a drink and a bit to eat and watch the world go by.

Freshly made hot and cold sandwiches made to order. I am always amazed by the speed with which the staff at this place produce sandwich lunches. On most days there is an orderly queue that gets whittled down quickly.

Have been here quite a few times always taken food out, there's not much room to eat in and it is a butchers as well, so not for everyone. It can get quite busy and have quite a queue although they have a lot of staff, good for breakfast cob etc.

Most Saturday mornings my son and I call here to buy saus,bacon and since the horse meat scandal some mince. The big plus is they also have a takeout breakfast menu,if you order a Lincs saus cob [bab] there are SIX saus enough to fill you up till teatime.The breakfast box could feed an army. The staff are very friendly and the place has a village feel about it.Vist you wont be disappointed
