We stopped here on the off chance they might have vegan cake, little did we know they had cake and so much more. The owner is lovely, he had lots of options for us and was happy to mix and match anything on the menu we fancied. Vegan mayonnaise too! I had the linguine with a vegan ploughman's lunch knowing I'd be taking half the ploughman's home for tea because it was going to be really filling but I wanted to try both. My husband had a fabulous salad with a really great selection of veg and balsamic dressing with fries on the side. For afters I had vegan Victoria Sponge cake and my husband had the vegan cheesecake, I took an extra piece of the cake with me it was so good. Phenomenal food, and phenomenal service. I've rarely felt so welcomed at an eatery, such a hidden gem, plus, there's a castle next door! We'll return next time we're up this way. Oh yes, and very dog friendly too : D

Lovely little cafe, we had sandwiches and they were fantastic. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We sat outside beneath Casrluith Castle which was nice. There is a little deli there as well.

Lovely wee cafe! I've wanted to go here for a while as we live in Dumfries but never managed to get around to it. But stopped off for lunch on our way to Portpatrick, the food is excellent! I had a homemade tartlet, husband had the ploughman's special which he liked so much he bought one of the pork pies to takeaway. Staff were so friendly, service was great. Cafe itself is nicely decorated with a lovely outside seating area, although the weather was a bit on the cold side so we stayed inside. It does get rather busy so be prepared. The deli is great too, we bought several items to takeaway. Highly recommend and we would love to return!

What a lovely little cafe! We stopped for a coffee on our way back from Stranraer on a beautiful sunny Saturday. Coffee was good and hubby treated himself to the chocolate brownie, which he said was delicious. Apart from the stunning location (next to Carsluith castle) the other outstanding mention has to be the staff! The young waitress and, what I assume to be, the owner were so friendly and chatty. Gutted the cafe is closed now til Tuesday as we would've visited again before going home on Monday. Definitely recommend a visit !

I noticed Carsluith Castle first, which I see is maintained by Historic Environment Scotland, then my attention was drawn to the Oakhill Cafe and Deli, set in adapted farm-type buildings. Plenty of parking and a visually attractive location. Outside seating is available. The deli has some unusually interesting items in amongst the standard fare. Old camera's are a pleasantly eccentric theme of the decor. The staff delivered a friendly welcome and I was quickly served. The ploughman's lunch was ideal, with a fresh tasty pie included. The staff were unusually proficient in their verbal interactions, in a genuine and appropriate fashion. Prices were fair. A very pleasant experience and I will be back if passing this way again.

We visited as a group of 6 adults and 3 dogs. The owner was incredibly welcoming, gave the dogs water and treats and even moved some tables so that we could all sit together. The food was beautiful, arrived quickly and was very reasonably priced. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

We have visited here on a number of occasions and every time, the food and service has been beyond excellent. The staff are extremely engaging and always go far beyond standard affability, instead showing interest in the customer, their health, their plans et cetera. We are very grateful dogs (including impish lurcher pups) are considered amongst the patrons, and treats and a water bowl are always brought to the table. We have had the pleasure to partake of a number of items from the menu to date ~ the ploughman's lunch is utterly divine (the pork pie is the finest by far), the coffee always a piping hot velvety brew, the children vouch the hot chocolate highly, the pear and stilton sandwich is a decadent blend of ingredients which never fails to delight. The cafe is, without exception, always spotlessly clean, as are the tables (inside and out), cutlery and chinaware. We are never rushed to finish and regardless of the number of customers, we are never left waiting to place our order or have our order delivered. The location is not so far from home that a logistical nightmare ensues to get there, but far enough away to make it a lovely outing in an otherwise dull day, parking is always available, and the view at the back sublime... looking over the Solway Firth. We highly recommend this artisan cafe. As an aside, thank you for being so patient when Ezekiel was shouty barking last week... understandably, he calmed down when I agreed (was coerced) to share my ploughman's with him!

We arrived on a rainy day and were greeted with an enthusiastic welcome. Dog friendly, so we brought our two in. The menu is extensive and the food was quality. The sort of quality where every piece of the meal is perfect so the meal itself is perfect We both had a hot smoked salmon salad. The owners were friendly and proud of their product. The restaurant is clean and well maintained Plenty of parking just off the A75 Would highly recommend

I am sure there cannot be a more intriguing roadside stop in Scotland. Attached to a semi-derelict castle with a lovely manicured sitting area outside alongside the sea. We enjoyed this little cafe and deli and were pleased to take way a very tasty smoked salmon and rocket sandwich served with speed, courtesy and panache. Recommended to stop by and stay.
