O My Cod! in Gwynedd

On recommendation from someone else, I purchased fish and chips from here for myself and a friend who is ill in Ysbyty Gwynedd. The fish was cooked fresh while I waited, credit to the owners, the fish and chips were excellent.

Small portions of greasy chips. Small cod for the money. Kept having to repeat order over and over and made to wait ages despite being the only ones there. They still got the order wrong. No ketchup. Only took cash. Swerve.

What was once a great chippy has been going in decline from pre-covid. Awfully small portion size, an over-fried small fish leaving a dry yet greasy taste in your mouth. A burger so depressing and bland it makes boiled rice flavourful. Price to quality is sub-par, if you're desperate consider going elsewhere for taste, quality and price. Its a shame seeing something once good turn to unloved disappointment.

It's been a while since the humble chippy was on the take away list in our house, been to this one a few times recently and every time it was great, very good portion of chips and excellent fish, highly recommend.

Bought a fish and chip meal here last night but was sorely disappointed. On opening the box, we couldnt break through the hardened extra thick batter to reach the elusive fish inside. Once we managed to smash our way in, what was in there was the smallest, thinnest wafer like slice of fish you ve ever seen. The batter was more suited to a fortune cookie, thick and tough as leather. Do yourself a favour, save £7. (yes really £7) and go elsewhere, it was shocking honestly, Ive never seen anything like it.

popped in for a fish supper and had large cod and chips, both were very tasty but portion size of chips was poor. Nice Chinese curry sauce though

We were staying locally and fancied fish and chips after a day exploring beaches. A Google search brought this place up as really good, with recent good reviews, that was open for tea time-ish (weirdly, the highest reviewed chippys closed mid afternoon?). The chips were anaemic and greasy, inedible really, and I gave up after about 10. The piece of fish I had was very strange, it was either battered, then frozen before frying, or bought in ready battered. It was full of grease, very thick batter, which I tried to peel off, but the fish inside wasn't worth it, so left that as well. Waste of money and a huge disappointment.

Just had a cheeky lunch, alone in the car, after shopping ... wife working! The best fish I have tasted in a very long time - takeaway or restaurant. Plump and meaty, well-cooked and so tasty - made to order. Crispy, non-greasy batter. Home now ... for a nap! 😀👍👌

Very nice, freshly cooked fish (cod) and chips. Daughter also had nice chicken bites, which were also freshly cooked. Decent portions. Would recommend.

been here multiple times before and always fairly nice food. i went today for the first time after lockdown and also okay however the queuing system is SO unorganised and left everyone confused. They could really try and improve it.

Nice fish,but small portions given.Very clean inside,but waited for ever for my Fish Andy chips. Not good value for money

Always freshly cooked ,worth the short wait , very large portions ,unfortunately the only fish they do is cod but pies and sausages available , phone orders taken

Had a piece of cod,batter was anaemic,undercooked and soggy.What was annoying is that the fish isn’t cheap and it wasn’t very good.I waited a good ten minutes for it to be cooked,so was disappointed when I got home.Wont be going back

Possibly the best fish and chips I've ever eaten! Fish in crispy batter, non greasy chips and very tasty mushy peas. Friendly couple running the shop.

This has to be one of the best Fish n Chip shops I have ever come across. Lovely Asian couple running it. Fish was absolutely fresh, and battered in front of us. Chips were good, even warmed in the oven the next day! Servings were generous, and the curry sauce amazing. For Bangor and south side of Anglesey, worth a 20 minute drive to get here!!

We stopped off at this place on our visit to Menai and what a great find. Good size fresh fish and the chips are fluffy & crispy ....

'coed Mawr chippy' as we call it has to be the best chip shop around. Very tatsy and fresh at a very reasonable price. We live an hour away from Bangor and we visit here now and then when we we are in the area and it never disappoints. Would recommend.

Freshly cooked fish to order. Nice light batter boxed with a decent portion of chips. Well worth a visit if you are visiting Bangor

Had a takeaway from what was previously my favourite fish n chip shop . So disappointed, the chips were undercooked and soggy ,the fish has lost that fresh flavour and is overloaded with batter ,such a shame it was so good under the previous owners ,definatiy will not be returning

The fish in Oh My Cod! is cooked to perfection in a light and crispy batter. The portion sizes are ample, and the food is not greasy at all. Absolutely the best around.

This chippy has always been recommended to me by friends so I had to try it out. I ordered fish and chips and had to wait 10 mins as there was a couple of customers before me that were also waiting for their order. On arriving home with my food I was a little bit disappointed to be honest. The fish was large and very tasty with the batter a little too heavy. The chips could have been cooked more as they hadn't browned properly but I suspect as there was a bit of a queue the cook took them out of the fryer too quickly. It hasn't put me off from coming back here as I still enjoyed my meal. Give it a try and see what you think.

First time experience of the fish and chips. Worth every penny. Lovely and delicious. Although staff are not all that friendly.

On a rare visit to my home town, we explored the area reminiscing and enjoying a snowy snowdonia scenery from Coed Mawr. We stumbled on a local chip shop and reading the good reviews we decided to give it a go. Although two portions of fish & chips was slightly expensive, we loved how everything was freshly prepared and the service was timely. We enjoyed the the crispy cod in batter and crunchy chips in the local park. A highly recommended take away this side of Bangor.

Sorry to say but had fish and chips today the fish batter was very soggy and the portion of chips very small not as good as it used to be will not go there again very POOR

Name says it all, but everything else is lovely too. Always visit after shopping. Opens at 4.30 which is ideal for tea time. Never had a bad meal here

The size of the fish is breathtaking easily could share between two people, lovely crispy batter. The box the fish and chips came in was like a shoe box. Loads of choice on the menu. Only negative is the wait.

I have passed this shop many a time without thinking, but it was lunch time and i was in need of sustinance, It was the day of the Aintree Grand National and a member of staff as discussing the rrace with the locals. the shop is spotlessly clean inside, Fish was superb and the chips crisp and golden with a soft inside. lovely.

we ordered two portions of sausage chips and gravy there was enough chips left to feed at least another three people but they were on the cold side and the gravy was so salty we couldn't eat it very disappointing

The last 5 times that I have ventured into Coed Mawr to get some fish and chips the shop has never been open...and I had checked opening hours before starting my journey...disappointing.I however found it open yesterday only to find out that it has been taken over by a Chinese family...l looked at the fish and walked out.

Although living a few miles away, having heard much praise for this chippy we thought it merited a visit. So glad we did - never mind the extra mileage on the car and the cost of fuel! Have been there many times since the initial outing and never been disappointed. So it can get busy and you have to queue, but it is worth it because of the high quality of the produce and the welcoming and helpful staff.

Without doubt , one of the best place for fish and chips in the area!! We have been regular customers for the past 3 years and have never had a disappointing order! They don't open everyday, and on the days they do its very busy and we'll deserved too!

I agree with TB review that poor man is left on his own quite often! Can he not employ someone to help him? Long queues are off putting especially if it's raining! Lovely fish n chips tho if you're prepared to wait!!!!

We decided to try this place for fish and chip lunch when in town having heard the good reputation, but were disappointed. We arrived to find a big queue, usually a sign of good food, however the man serving (presumably the owner) was on his own and we had to wait a whole hour almost to get our food. On a Saturday lunchtime he really needed to get in help if his usual staff were unavailable, as this wait is far too long for a takeaway. He obvously took care with his cooking, and the fish fillets were good and large, but the batter was a bit wet inside, and the chips were pretty greasy and a lot of small hard ones in there. Not up to its reputation, but maybe that was due to being there on his own and trying to do too much. Very good value for fish supper.

Just had fish chips and peas from O my Cod and they were the best I've had for a very long time, absolutely beautiful.

Avoid meds around the corner and come here. It's great value. Approximately half the price of Kenai Bridge chippy

We have tried several fish n chip places but this one stands out on its own . Look forward to our meal there ,the fish is normally Cod and the man cooks it to perfection ,chips are also good ,not the greasy chips you get in some establishments ,what really impressed me most was how the couple who own it cook it fresh and you get a lovely smile with it as well ,Keep up the good work guys you have got it dead on .

Decided to visit 'O my Cod' after checking out the reviews on TP and was not disappointed. We ordered 3 fish, one chips and tried a portion each of the mushy peas, curry sauce (a choice of 2 types) and a portion of gravy. Good friendly service and advised the only fish that they served was cod (fine with us and far better than something imported from Asia) The 3 fish where very generous portions that where cooked brilliantly with a lovely light delicious batter. The chips where also a very generous portion and delicious, not at all greasy and soggy like you get in some chip shops. The accompanying sauces where full of flavour and not thick and lumpy like some places serve. Highly recommend this place and we will definitely be going back

Popped by last night for some fish and chips after work mates recommended the shop. 1st class ! nicely cooked, lovely batter on the fish, and melt in the mouth. If you are in Bangor - seek O My Cod out - you'll be glad you did.

Delicious and fresh fish and chips. Big portions. A very popular place as there is often quite a queue when it opens. The staff are friendly and efficient. The only downside is that the opening hours are not that long.

Have been twice now for fish and chips....it is excellent,the fish is really fresh and cooked to order.I have recommended it to friends and family.

Best Fish and chip shop in this part of North Wales. Fish cooked to order with great tasting chips with mushy peas if you eat all this you are hungry. Great service and great selection not only the Fish. A visit is a Most.

Having heard about O My Cod's reputation for excellence I was very disappointed with my fish and chips last night.The chips were dull and tasteless, more like wet cardboard. No crispness, just hard. I didn't finish them, too much like hard work.The fish was ok but I have had better.Best in Bangor - not sure I could agree with that! Service was friendly so sorry for a somewhat negative review but I write as I find.

Right I'll tell you this for nothing, O my cod, o my what a chippy. Best in Bangor by far! Colin and Sarah give you one hell of a service, especially Sarah ;) 10/10 would recommend.

We first found it by mistake and it ended up being our favourite place. The fish is really nice, not at all oily, as this is one of the main problems with a good fish&chips.Keep up the good work!!!

After hearing so many good reports about this place my wife and I decided to try the fish and chips. It's run by a local friendly couple from bangor. When you arrive Colin will ask you if you want fish and if so its cooked fresh for you. The fish was cooked in a light batter and was delicious. Not greasy or fatty at all. We had 2 fish and one portion of chips and it was plenty. You need a big appetite to eat a full fish and chips but believe me it's worth it. I will return and I will be definetly recommending O my cod to all my friends.

O My Cod is a very traditional chippy located slightly off the beaten track so it must rely more on the locals than on passing trade. There are no surprises but the food is good. Worth a visit assuming you can find it.
