overall a lovely hotel and brilliant food. however i couldn’t help but notice the lack of respect from staff members to other fellow staff. i think staff for a hotel this nice should be kind and attentive and not out right rude.

Lovely views. Shame about the food. I was looking forward to returning to this restaurant after a long absence and was very disappointed in the quality of the food and presentation. I felt there was a strong element of contrived style over substance, especially regarding the asparagus and fish dish on the so-called fine dining menu. Given the above, I felt the food was overpriced. I wrote to the owner afterwards giving details of my experience and have not received a reply. I will not be returning. There are many far superior high quality restaurants in the area.

I have dined here on many occasions, even had gluten free afternoon tea and it has always been superb. However on my visit today, I popped in with some friends for the cream tea. When the gluten free scones arrived they were on a piece of hot slate. I tried to slice one of the scones and it was solid and a funny grey colour. Even so, I put my butter on and attempted to eat it, it was disgusting, dry, hard with a weird bitter taste. Totally inedible. The waitress took them away and offered me an alternative. I chose coconut cake with pineapple. It looked really nice. I dug my spoon in and it wouldn’t go in - again it was solid and desperately dry and crumbly. Needless to say that didn’t get eaten either. This was incredibly disappointing. To have had such lovely food so many times before, it’s a puzzle. A new chef who doesn’t know how to cook gluten free food perhaps? I wasn’t charged for the food in the end, but when you are looking forward to a treat with friends it was a real spoiler.

We used this venue a couole of weeks ago for a birthday dinner in the private dining room. The food was fantastic until we realised that the allergens had not been disclosed correctly and my aunt who is gluten intolerant was given the wrong meal. The wait staff were totally apologetic and luckily my aunt had not eaten too much of the meal however what was more concerning was when I was speaking to the manager I was rudely interpreted by a gentleman asking me “what my problem was”. The manager looked extremely nervous and explained this man was actually the owner of the venue. I explained the situation to him to which he replied with a raised voice “it’s sorted now isn’t it, why are you out here moaning and making me look stupid”. I was that taken aback that I just left and went back to the dining room and carried on as to not ruin my grandmother’s birthday however I felt it important to let people know as I will not be returning and will be encouraging friends and family not to dine there due to the possibility of ever having to encounter such bad behaviour whilst being paying customers.

How wonderful to dine in a proper restaurant - not a bare table dining hall. Beautiful sumptuous decor, fine linens, attentive service and delicious food. My husband and I visited on 19 April and sat outside in the Stables area. So good to be seated at a white linen covered table with quality cutlery again - the little things that matter. We were blessed with beautiful sunshine at 6.00 p.m. that evening. We were seated on the edge of the covered area and it was really well organised. Menu was still very good even though reduced - we had ragu bolognese which was lovely - so tender and tasty and pepperoni pizza. Followed by cheesecake and ice-cream (mint chocolate) plus a bottle of some lovely Merlot red. Perfect evening and cannot wait to go back. Such excellent food and amazing service as ever.

Four of us visited for a midweek evening meal; one person has a dairy allergy. We had let them know in advance, and they checked when we arrived. On being shown to the table the maitre d' checked again, then went away and came back with a menu marked up with what they could do - which was almost every main course, several starters and a couple of desserts. When canapes arrived they had prepared a separate dairy-free plate, and did the same with the bread. The food was excellent, across all three courses; the scallops as starter, duck breast main, and lemon tart stood out. Perfectly cooked, nicely presented; quite pricey, but eloquent proof that, at times, you get what you pay for.

This was our first trip to a restaurant since the COVID-19 outbreak. From the moment we arrived we were impressed by all of the safety measures that have been put in place. Hand sanitisers were readily available ,diners were well spaced out ,staff were wearing face masks and gloves apart from the maitre d’ who it was important to be able to communicate with clearly .We were very impressed by the dining out to help out menu which was extremely reasonable although we did not choose from that menu as it was a special occasion. There was an excellent variety of choice for the three course à la cart menu and an extensive wine list to choose from.We were both delighted with all of the food we ate and found it to be excellent quality, well cooked and delicious. The service was outstanding.... nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel special on our anniversary evening. It has been sometime since we have visited Nuthurst Grange but it is certainly our intention to visit there again very soon.

Great location in beautiful countryside, although motorway noise constant & a little obtrusive when sitting on the terrace. Staff could not have been more welcoming. Room had separate seating area (on a sofa bed). Decor a bit too grey - needed some splashes of colour. Super modern bathroom & super-king comfortable bed. Would prefer a duvet rather than a sheet & blanket and a net curtain would add some privacy. Extensive breakfast menu with ample (too ample) portions although kippers were decidedly average. Did not eat in the restaurant - quite pricey. Would still give 5 stars & highly recommend.

As a visitor to the Nuthurst a couple of times a year, I am always delighted to see how their standards of service never drop. Ever. From the receptionists, who's vast knowledge about the area is always welcome, to the wonderful ladies and gentlemen who serve us at the bar and breakfast table. It's a different kind of service too if that makes sense, very genuine, unlike some places where staff see it as their job to greet you etc, the folks here are so genuine in their words it has to be experienced to be believed. The bar, while small, has all you need and with table service you can sit in the lounge and have your drinks brought to you with a smile. While this hotel is clearly of a certain vintage, the rooms do not show it, maintained to a very high standard. Also, when the room is tidied during the day it's done with military precision, I have never seen a bed dressed like it before, and it's that attention to detail that makes me love coming back to the Nuthurst, even though its for work. I do hope management see this and let the staff know how well they work at keeping such a high standard. Keep doing what you are doing!!

Met a friend here for afternoon tea last weekend. The hotel itself is lovely and the greeting was very nice and professional. We were shown to a nice table in the conservatory part of the restaurant and asked if we wanted tea or coffee. To my amazement considering it boasts several accolades for its food my request for Assam tea was met with puzzlement by the waiter so I settled for English breakfast instead!!. There was then a long wait and the food arrived on a slate 3 tier contraption. We couldn't help but feel disappointed when we saw the somewhat sparse and plain selection of cakes. It was all very fresh but the sandwiches were uninspiring and the cakes no better than a competent home cook could produce: plain sponge with some dried fruit, lemon cake and a very poor mini mince pie!! Altogether fine but just not special enough to go out for (in our case we had both travelled for over 2 hours to meet at this half way venue) We both felt we could easily rustle up this standard of food at home with little effort!! So although the hotel looked lovely with an especially cosy lounge we wont be making a return visit for tea.

Having given the restaurant here a good review earlier this year for Sunday lunch, we thought we'd return for a cheeky mid-week dinner sitting. You get a choice of either the Lounge or Kingswood Restaurant menus which certainly gives plenty of choice, and with everything up to a tasting menu if you so wish. Our meal started in the comfortable lounge area with some nice little canapés as you peruse the menus. We chose from the Kingswood menu which is more fine dining but good value at £39.95 per person for three courses. We had the choice of sitting in the main Kingswood restaurant or in the Orangery that sits in front. We chose the latter, although even with a wedding going on in the function room behind us, only one other couple came in that night and they chose to sit in the main restaurant. A shame as it felt a bit lonely, but perhaps telling. After a small amuse-bouche of Chicken liver parfait, our starters of Scallops and Mackerel three ways were served. Both dishes looked lovely and my wife enjoyed her Scallops very much. My Mackerel was mostly good although it lacked real depth of Mackerel flavour in parts for me.Our mains were next and again looked good; my Pork two ways with sweat and sour along with a side of chow mein was generous. My wife enjoyed her Turbot dish although for me, mine lacked sweetness at all. It also lacked seasoning and I was desperate for some soy sauce. The Pork too was a bit bland and tasteless. Not a great dish for me.We decided to forego desserts at this point and simply finished with tea, coffee and some nice petit-fours back in the lounge.Overall the food was OK to good and there are certainly lots of little extras, fitting of 2AA Rosettes but the food didn't deliver on flavour today for us. The service was good and professional without mistakes although we've been twice this year now and have noticed that although the tables have white table cloths, every time they've taken the mains away, there's a dirty ring left on the cloth from the plate. A bit disconcerting as I'm guessing that means the pass is dirty then? For our meal this evening we paid £89 which was for two courses each, soft drinks, coffee and tea. It's not bad value but it missed somewhat on our expectations and that brings me back to my observation about lack of patrons. Even though it was mid-week, I'd be here more often had this meal delivered; it didn't though.

This was our first visit here and will not be our last. We started our evening with a drink in the lounge whilst choosing from the varied menu. Drinks were accompanied with canopes which were delicious. We were then taken in to the restaurant for what i can only describe as very tasty food, all cooked fresh including the freshly baked rolls and home made butter. We were looked after really well and finished off with another drink in the lounge. Food was delicious, service could not be faulted and the lounge was so relaxing, an overall perfect visit. We will definitely return.

Whilst staying at the Nuthurst Grange Country House Hotel I decided to eat dinner in the lounge bar. The service was great and the food was very 'posh'. The canapes to start, on a bent spoon, were very tasty as was my seafood platter starter. Staying with the fish theme I went for the battered cod and tripe cooked chips for my main and didn't have room for dessert. All my food was very good quality and well presented and the service was also top class. Prices are a little high but what do you expect at a 'Country House' Hotel Restaurant.

We visited Nuthurst Grange for the first time yesterday to sample their Sunday lunch. We have to say that the whole experience was fantastic. The pre dinner canapés in the cosy and sumptuous lounge got the meal off to a great start and continued through the whole of the afternoon. We both went for the Pork terrine, roast beef and sticky toffee pudding, all perfect. The service is attentive and courteous from start to finish and concluded with tea and petit fours back in the lounge. Highly recommended and without a doubt we will be back in the not too distant future.

My wife and I visited the Nuthurst Grange for Sunday lunch today. A first for this, but we've been coming here over the years for various visits, from weddings to dinner to 80th birthday parties. It's a great location, with great views, although sadly in the summer if you sit outside, you do hear the roar of the M40 in the distance. It's a traditional hotel and has lots of comfy sofas in the lounge, a fine dining room and a more casual Orangery - Bistro, which today was also used for the Sunday lunch. We sat in the restaurant which is both comfortable and spacious, if a little dark. There was also a pianist in today and maybe that was a bit louder than it needed to be.However, our lunch started in the lounge area with some lovely canapés while we perused the menu. It's a good choice for this most traditional of meals and so we chose starters of Salmon terrine and Chicken liver parfait followed by mains of Sea Bass fillet and Leg of lamb. On being led to the table you're also given nice home made bread. Our starters were lovely but although my parfait is plentiful, you only got one small slice of brioche. A bit stingy so I had more bread instead. My wife enjoyed her Salmon terrine very much. Our mains were very generous and pleasantly presented with lots of unctuous jus for my lamb. We were also served a large tureen of additional veg which along with what was already on the plates, amounted to quite a lot. Everything was perfectly cooked, piping hot and delicious. For desserts, we ordered the Sticky toffee pudding and Praline crème brûlée. Again both all very pretty, generous and very delicious. All in all, this was one of the better Sunday lunches I've had around Knowle, Dorridge and Solihull for quite a while.Service was courteous, professional and without mistakes. Our five course meal today (inclusive of the canapés and tea with petit-four) was £31.95 per person and with soft drinks, a glass of Champagne and wine, totalled £85 all together. Great value and very comparable to other offerings in the area although the food here is better and you get a more refined lunch too. I'd definitely recommend.

Would not have come here had TA/internet existed. It is a welcoming place with lovely grounds and nicely presented and tasting food.As it operates as a restaurant in this hotel, numbers (of diners) may be unpredictable. The lunch time we went, it started to get busier as the first hour past. Not in the orangery per se where you eat but rather in the lounge area where groups were gathering. The service then became a little sporadic, but it was still okay.I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here again, but would recommend it as the place for local residents to have a very nice meal to celebrate something...birthday, hen do, anniversary etc

We were a family of six adults and two small children. This was our first visit and we will certainly be back. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive particularly in view of having to negotiate the table avoiding toys etc. The food was excellent, particularly the roast beef and the lamb not to mention the wonderful bread plus the children's menu choice was perfect. It has an eighties/modern charm, not showy but comfortable. Three generations felt very at home. The bill was reasonable, definitely a place to return to - hopefully a table overlooking the garden next time when we are not so many.

Met friends here for afternoon tea after struggling to find a central point on a Saturday lunchtime . We were made very welcome . We sat in the lounge and had a drink before being shown to our table in the orangery for afternoon tea . This was very well presented and of good quality . Perhaps the only suggested thing to alter would be more savoury and a bit less sweet as we left some cakes . Otherwise very good .

This was a lunch for my birthday 65th - from the moment we talked through with the Hotel what we would like we knew it would be exceptional. (We have had special occasions there before). The staff are helpful and the food is excellent and good quality beautifully served (attentive and discreet). Its easy for us to go to the venue 2 mins down the road but we cannot really better it. The grounds are beautifully kept and its a country house so not huge rooms and not too too formal.

It's a lovely place that's tucked away just off the beaten track. The upper room I had did have some odd angles on the ceiling as it was built into the original loft but it had plenty of space and a nice view of the garden. The room had good amenities and it was ok bringing a drink to the room from the bar. Breakfast was good too. If I visit my local office again and need to some more fresh air compared to Village etc. nearer Solihull then this is where I will choose.

We ate here last night it was my Mom and Dads anniversary meal 45 years together. I'm allergic to dairy products and eggs. The head chief was brilliant. He was able to substitute the things I'm allergic to with goats cheese and soya items. We were all well looked after. The waiters were brilliant, we ate the meal in the conservatory and looked out over the gardens. There was a wedding going on at the same time but they were not noise at all and we soon forgot about the wedding. I would highly recommend the restaurant for special occasions.

The dining is excellent, really wonderful. So quick to several destinations, so if I;m meeting clients from Warwick, Solihull, Birmingham, Redditch, its one of the handiest places. Great conference facilities too! Beautiful gardens, and a separate barn conversion which is quite spectacular. Thsi has bene a meeting venue of choice for several years and I will continue to visit regularly

My reluctance to review is based solely on selfish grounds.I want this local restaurant to remain exclusive. I want to be able to enjoy a very special event, as this was, without it becoming too popular. The presentation is amazing. The food a joy to behold. In an area not short of good restaurants this outdoes the rest in spades. The setting to enjoy the ambience and the food is delightful. I really felt, even though this was my first visit that I had been a frequent diner for years. This is a must for the special occasion, if you want to impress your friends and family treat them to the Nuthurst experience.

Staff were so friendly and wanted to ensure we were all having a good time. Came back in the morning to have breakfast. They had run out of gluten free bread but assured me they do supply it normally. Standard breakfast fry up food and cereals and fruit etc. Very clean venue. Stunning views. Would recommend this to friends.

The hotel rooms have character and charm and are very well appointed. I was in room 5..charming four poster bed with great linens and very comfortable...very large room with plenty of sockets..mirrors, mini bar, kettle with teas and coffees, biscuits, hairdryer in fact everything you need for a great stay. Bathroom was huge. Large slipper bath..very large walk in shower..2 sinks and moulton brown toiletries. Wi FI did work in the room but was a little sporadic. Dinner was fab and over delivered on my expectations. I had a veal surf and turf and it was sublime....sweet was a take on English cream tea..a very novel and lovely sweet. Service was great..unobtrusive yet always to hand. Breakfast was delightful..all the men enjoyed full English which was substantial and everything you would expect. The choice was great. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel and I will be back. My party had 6 rooms and we all felt the same ...the attention to detail is very good ...we could only find one fault and this is that on a lovely summer evening outside you can hear the motorway...hardly the hotels fault! So barely worth a mention.

I came to Nuthurst to celebrate my Aunt and Uncles 60th birthday in January. They'd booked one of the function rooms to host a large party for Sunday lunch. From start to finish, the service, food and surroundings were excellent. The staff were attentive and couldn't do enough. There was a set menu which we chose from in advance but there was a great choice and if I could, I would have selected all the desserts! I am vegetarian and so are both my cousins and my Aunt whose birthday it was. I had the goat cheese starter, vegetable wellington and the creme brulee to finish (which was to die for). Then followed coffee and petits fours. All the food was wonderful and plenty of it including various bowls of veg to accompany the main meal.We all had a great afternoon and would like to thank the staff for great service. My only criticism... please can you put some more lights on the rear patio/steps en route to the car park? Not easy to navigate in wet weather in heels!
