So the cocktails here are amazing... There is a bit of a wait, but it is sooo very worth it. I recommend the black pearl.

Went there recently on a break from work. Ordered two club sandwiches at 7.50 each. After 35 minutes went to explain that we needed to eat to get back to work, maybe should have mentioned earlier but didn't think two sandwiches would have taken too long to make. Upon enquiring, I was apologized too and told that someone should have said the kitchen upstairs was very backed up. A saving grace would have been the food being well prepared however not only was the toasted bread stone cold, the chicken and bacon was burnt. Would honestly say it was the worst club sandwich I've ever had and possibly the most expensive. Didn't even come with chips. Very disappointing and would have complained but the lack of time meant we couldn't. Will not return.

Like so many restaurants in St Andrews, Number 40/ the Golf Hotel fluctuates in quality. A few years ago, I had a soup there that was so salty it was inedible. After hearing lots of nice reviews, I returned for a conference dinner. I appreciate that feeding a number of people at once on a budget is not an easy task. However, the Golf hotel could have done better. The starter was okay (basic smoked salmon) but the mains were awful. Beef option was overcooked and to salty; veggie option was very cheap pasta and inconsistent. Very few people cleared their plates. Dessert was fine. Service was acceptable but somewhat disorganised. The two points the restaurant does excel at - lovely view and fab bar (when not overrun by students.)

Bought a great double espresso and slice of lemon cake as a takeaway option. Always good service and the staff are very friendly. I try to stop here when I can on my way to or from Perth. The Lemon cake was lovely with just the right amount of icing and had a sweet tangy lemon jam in a delicious sponge.
