Dining at Number 3 in Cowes on a quiet Tuesday night was a delightful experience. The ambiance was cozy and intimate, perfect for a relaxed evening. The handwritten wine list added a personal touch, and the selection was extensive, catering to all tastes. We started with the fresh crab, which was a real highlight—delicately seasoned and bursting with flavour. The main event, however, was the steaks. Cooked to absolute perfection, they were easily some of the best I’ve ever had. So juicy and tender. The truffle sauce complemented the meat beautifully, and the generous portions of vegetables served for the table were a welcome addition. Overall, Number 3 offers a dining experience that’s both refined on the plate and unpretentious. If you’re in Cowes, this is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good hearty and fresh food and a warm welcome.

Dined at Number 3 whilst staying a few days in Cowes. It is a lovely cosy restaurant. The food was delicious. It was the first time I had ever heard or tried black garlic. We had the garlic butter with some tasty foccia bread. We a starter of goats cheese mousse with beetroot, followed by fish in a herb butter sauce. We were then given a lemon and mango palate cleanser. We were served by the very knowledgeable Teri, she was full of enthusiasm and excited by the food she was serving. The whole experience was a joy.

Pure eerlijke keuken.

This is an unassuming small restaurant which seems family run. It was quiet on a weekday evening with only 2 tables occupied. The salmon starters were unusual and excellent with the fillet steak extremely tender and served in large portions. Two bottles of wine bought the bill for 4 to £188 without service. For the quality of food I think this is good value but the place would benefit by being a little busier.

This place has amazing reviews but I was really disappointed. It’s a small venue and we were a large table so unfortunately did dominate the space and potentially impacted my assessment of the atmosphere but staff seemed hugely frustrated by the large table (which they could have turned down at booking) with the older lady rolling her eyes when we were ordering and just generally being very unfriendly. Huge wine list but tiny, restrictive menu. No vegetarian or vegan options (unless you tell them in advance) but were told we could have roasted vegetables if we wanted a vegetarian meal which is boring and a bit lazy and so surprising that a veggie dish isn’t offered on the main menu. Food is good but very overpriced and tiny portions. All dishes are served with new potatoes and cauliflower cheese which are placed in big bowls on the table and shared but when questioned about how many people each bowl was to be shared with an answer couldn’t be provided. Toilet is just in someone’s flat upstairs which is quite weird. Amuse bouche and pallet cleanser was a nice surprising touch but unfortunately won’t be returning due to unfriendly service, weird sides and very expensive prices for what it is.

Number 3, Bath Road , Cowes is slightly hidden from view but well worth seeking out if you want a well cooked, carefully produced meal. We recently celebrated a big birthday here, so booked every seat in the house, ( there are only 20 covers). Every meal was beautifully served, with each person in our party commenting upon the wonderful taste of their food. The regular menu is limited to a few dishes, but all will be excellent! A very small restaurant with a small menu and superb food. I think I would go so far as to say it was the best meal ever! We had complimentary homemade focaccia bread with black garlic butter, a superb crab starter, amazing lamb with dauphinois followed by a free sharp lemon posset as a palate cleanser. Desserts were mainly homemade ice cream so perhaps another option would have been nice but overall it was a memorable experience and we’ll definitely go back.

We visited No 3 restaurant in Cowes for dinner during a five day break on the Isle of Wight and the experience was so good, we went again two nights later to celebrate our anniversary. Although a small menu, we had no trouble choosing our meal and can only say how delighted we were, on both ocassions, by the quality of the food, service and ambiance. We were presented first with a basket of warm home-made herb focaccia with an oil & balsamic dip, this was followed by the most delicious and light as air Amuse Bouche of Parsnip Mousse with Samphire. Next up were our starters of Goats Cheese Parfait with Roast Beetroot & tiny teardrop Pepperdew Peppers and my husband’s poached Cod with a light Thai Green curry sauce. We had a Medallion of Beef Fillet with a Truffle Jus and a Loin of Lamb with a rich Lamb Jus. We were then presented with a palate cleanser of a zesty Lemon Mousse with Mango Purée. I had to refuse dessert as I was replete but my husband enjoyed home-made Salted Caramel Ice Cream with Caramel Sauce which he loved. We were totally satisfied and both finished off with iced Limoncello as a digestif. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this lovely little restaurant and we cannot wait to return.

My visit here was organised by a friend so I arrived not knowing the reputation of the place, with a blank canvas in terms of expectations. It's small, cosy, friendly, and there's little doubt from the a la carte menu that this is one of the most upmarket places in Cowes. I'd been sailing for the day so I was both hungry and thirsty - perhaps not a good combination when this place is more about refinement than refuelling. Both starter and main were delicious, but the portion sizes brought straight to mind the era of nouvelle cuisine, when it was all about the taste but you had to go to McDonalds after to have a burger and fill up. So very good, but don't go here starving or keen to see off a bottle or two. Two courses and two glasses of wine for £45.

We have booked the place to celebrate several round anniversaries with friends… and celebration it was! We started celebration with a silly / unreadable handwritten wine list. Welcomed or rather not welcomed by strange miserable staff. Then celebration took us through several courses of taster menu - all really pointless as all dishes were simply some sort of runny mashed veggie mouse. We were finally delighted with bite size of fish - really well cooked, but without any taste. Then comes tasteless lamb dish - except for the taste of lamb ( forgot, this place does not use any sources, marinades, salt or pepper ) Absolute disaster! To give chief bit credit a credit - we closed of with a spoon of spectacular dessert. To late to save the night…and stomach! We were dying all night after this dinner!

The Tasting Menu was delicious. All plates of food were unusual and very moorish. As the Tasting Menu changes often if there is anything in the menu that night you do not eat they will change it. The staff were lovely and I would thoroughly recommend it. However although I rated it a 5 which it was deserved of there are 2 things which I feel would have taken it to another level - the first was that some of the dishes were very small and came in just a cup and plonked on the table and I feel these should have been presented better on a serving plate - my other thing would be a uniform of some sort for the staff. Whilst I appreciate that these two things are minor I believe it would make a massive difference.

If you've never been before it can be a little confusing, The lady just plonks a small list of dishes down and tells you it's small plates???? So your thinking tapas style ????... It's actually like a tasting menu. You choose between a couple of starters and mains and they bring you out 3/4 set dishes inbetween. For the life of me I don't understand why they don't lay the menu out like this and put it all on the menu for a fixed price (£30ish). Then people could see a menu and have an idea of what they're going to be served. However for me it was brilliant, every mouthful was beautiful. We will definitely be back very soon I think .

What a strange place, from the front of house to the wine list to the concept. Very odd!On entering one is presented with a handwritten short menu and separate red and white wine lists including “orange wine” ?Most of these we’d never heard of, but I chose a South African orange wine which can only be described as unusual and only 10.5% proof! The concept of small plates was explained and we both opted for a crab mouse which was pretty good.We then shared a minute piece of cod, again which was OK, but nothing special. We shared a tiny piece of sea bass and a piece of steak which were both just about OK, but minuscule sizes. As they were charging £12 to £13 for each dish, in realty for a normal sized dish that would have put it in the high £20’s.We were however presented with 3 amuse bouches of beetroot mouse before the starter and then a mango mouse and a white chocolate mouse, all not bad followed by some homemade salted caramel ice cream which was really quite acceptable. The young lady serving us was very pleasant, but overall we found the evening a little bizarre.Should we find ourselves in Cowes again, we would certainly give this restaurant a miss.

We just wish that it was at the end of our lane so that we could walk home! We can’t wait for the lockdown to be over so that we may return.

we are accustomed to eating out on a very regular basis, our favourite restaurants on t he Island are the basque kitchen (cant recommend it highly enough) and Ada. As the reviews for number 3 were so good we thought we would try it, , we were so disappointed. My starter prawn and crab mousse sounded delicious, but I found a few bits of shell, it was far too chilled and I thought pretty tasteless. My husbands pork was fine, the mains left me cold, the fish didnt have enough sauce and the vegetables were really stingy, a small dish of sliced potatoes and a small dish of greens, for two hungry people, could have been better. As for the wine list I have never seen a larger or more ludicrous choice. Do people who eat here really buy bottles of wine that cost over £100 , well maybe yachties in the season, but ordinary people if they do must have money to burn. We bought a bottle costing £22 , frankly I wouldnt have paid £5 for it in a shop. Such a disappointing evening, we wont be back, , the basque kitchen reopens next week, cant wait

The food was nice, but very small portions for the price. Very poor choice of options. Extremely cramped and no atmosphere. Sorry not for me and i won't return . I just felt like an unwelcome guest in a strangers living room , i couldn't wait to leave. The host did no effort to make you welcome and seemed offended when i said i was vegetarian.

We liked Number 3 so much that we went back the following evening. Great chef - no menu as he decides what he will serve each day (with choices of course). Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

What an amazing place! Its tucked out of the way in a little corner. The food was superb with only a small choice on the menu it made the agony of choosing easy, there were little surprises along the way, making the whole experience a joy. My son said "Everywhere should do parsnip mousse"Great food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. If you're ever in Cowes and fancy something special, you won't get any better than No 3.

I thought it would be hard to beat our previous visits to this great little restaurant, but I was wrong. Our meal on Friday night was the best to date and we loved the course surprises as well as the pared down menu. I didn't think it was possible to beat the amazing steak I have there but I was wrong ... absolutely loved the wonderful tender lamb. So glad we made the last minute booking.

Another superb meal at a reasonable price. Food and service is consistently good. The menu is small but there is always a least 2 or 3 things that I would happily eat.

I found this restaurant via TripAdvisor/Google. It was near our hotel and a look on the website intrigued me. I was not disappointed at all. The prices are good and the wine list is simply excellent. The price for wine is a lot cheaper here than at most restaurants. I can nothing but really recommend this place.

Tiny but tremendous! A real family business with all the care you’d expect. Limited menu but offers something for everyone. The best meal I’ve ever enjoyed and we eat out a lot! Lovely relaxed pace as no turning of tables every 2 hours. Extensive wine list, lovely atmosphere, fabulous food, small but perfectly formed. A must if in Cowes!

A small family run restaurant, friendly staff serving fantastic food! The owner/chefs selection of wines are worth trying something different. You won’t be disappointed. A must if you are in the area and make sure you leave space for a helping of the Salted Caramel Ice Cream which is home made, an ‘absolute must ‘.

Cowes week is always a three ring circus, everywhere is full, cars are abandoned without a care. Busy day at the races, The Cambridge’s had flown in especially so you get the picture. Number 3 is fully booked, we have a table for 7 including two kiddoes, impeccably behaved I might add. Service was spot on plus extra crisps for the boys whilst we waited to order. The food that came out of that tiny kitchen was so good. Lobster with a light cheese mousse as a starter, perfect, it was so fresh and we drank the house rose with it, job done. Mains on our table included pork belly, loin of lamb and sea bream. The boys had a specially cooked loin of cod, they cleared their plates, as did we. A French Gamay did the job for everyone, no desserts but coffee and fresh mint tea finished us off. Clever kitchen, clearly clever chef and front of house just went about the business of feeding people first class food with no drama or fuss. Merci beaucoup X

Stopped for a cream tea which the wife enjoyed. Usual 2 scones provided with jam and clotted cream and a good pot of tea. They normally do Gluten Free cream tea but due to high demand had sold out of GF scones. They were however able to supply GF cheese scones so I had a savoury version of cream tea, 2 GF cheese scones, a tomato chutney and a cream cheese. Was very nice and would recommend.

A very peaceful place to stay, in the centre of Newport, conveniently located, close to the bus station and to restaurants. Charming interiors, with a lot of character. Spacious, comfortable and clean room. Breakfast is served, and freshly prepared after the order is made. Hostess is friendly and Staff polite. We will definitely stay there again!

Stopped here for tea and we're so glad we did. Loose leaf tea in a china tea pot (not one of those awful stainless steel ones that dribbles all over the table), a tea strainer, china cups and saucers and a china milk jug - this is how tea should be served. The Bakewell slice and chocolate cake were both delicious and the portions very generous. The friendly welcome and engaging staff added to the enjoyment. Looking forward to the next visit.
