French Franks in Isle of Wight

Disappointed with my chicken tikka baguette , the chucks of chicken are far too big for baguette without any sauce that it all kept falling apart , certainly not a sandwich filler anymore . Shame as I was looking forward to it 😕.

There a reason why there's nearly always a que. A somewhat similar concept to Subway, but the quality of ingredients is so much better! Once I accidentally ordered something containing an ingredient that I would normally dislike, but due to the overall composition it tasted absolutely brilliant and I ate all of it. Also, their frozen yoghurt is really worth it as well

Great lunch stop on a cycle around the IoW. GF options no problem. Good coffee, yummy GF brownie. Limited seating indoors but we sat outside in the shade, no umbrellas though. Quick service, very busy, friendly.

drinks from french franks are really nice, with staff being friendly and approachable :) especially like the iced latte ranges.

Great fresh food takeaway, although there are a few seats downstairs and upstairs. A great variety of fillings, or just design your own favourite. Price very good too.

I needed to arrange a packed lunch for 8: important visitors and our Directors. I already knew the food would be great, as it always is, but the help, support and service was second-to-none. Thank you to the team at French Franks Newport Central.

Nice service, reasonably priced good food, clean bathrooms. Queue was out the door which is testament to how good it was! Coffee and a sandwich was £7 ish which compared to the chain cafes is much better.

Best salad today by far. I loved the lady who made my lunch. She went into detail with regard to what else I could have with my prawn salad; with passion and enthusiasm, which is so nice to go that extra mile. This will definitely make me go back. The salad was beautiful so tasty and lots of it. Well worth the money. 10/10 for service/taste and 10+ for the lovely lady who made my lunch - when she was making my lunch - she was sprinkling the ingredients all over to mix it up, really caring about the presentation and ensuring that it would taste fab. Wow.

Friendly cosy little cafe with great food and drink

Feeling positive today and was greeted by three lovely ladies today and French franks who helped with my order and served me. They made me feel welcome and were very good at memorizing my order that I had to read from my phone! Food is always yummy. I had two of the lovely ladies make my baguettes and the younger lady/girl who made me my froyo also was very yummy. Thankyou to you three you are doing a great job!

Always fresh and nice to have a lovely crispy roll. Really like being able to pick and choose. Will mention that I asked for lots of pepper in my sandwich and didn't get that. Still, buy an iced coffee, it's lovely in this hot weather. Just had a delicious beef sandwich. They didn't have brown baguettes but had brown bread. This time they did put loads of pepper on, yummy!

Idyllic location by the Minster, and super friendly and efficient staff. Food is only OK. Cold bacon and chicken in my baguette, and avocado that had turned a somewhat ancient-looking grey in places. Shame you can’t give 3.5 stars.

Visit this little baguette shop semi regularly to grab lunch with friends or family. Its always a good experience. Food is fresh and tasty and not unreasonably priced. Staff are friendly and the premises are clean. The only slight downside is that there's often a queue formed outside at lunch times and you may have a bit of a wait to get served/find a table, but then the place is in demand (despite loads of alternatives in the immediate area) which speaks for itself. Would recommend.

Looking for somewhere whilst in town shopping, popped in here and managed to get a nice seat, coronation chicken baguettes, very yummy, will return again soon.

Such a lovely friendly place to eat or drink . Everything is well priced, and the staff are happy to accommodate all your needs . Frozen yogurt drinks ( FroYo's) are an absolute must, so delicious. They have a new member of staff Ellie who is a breath of fresh air , super helpful and polite and an excellent addition to the team . Loving our lunch in the Square.

Rather disappointed as not been to your Newport shop for a while. Croissant was over cook and filing was next to nothing inside and not worth £5.05. no breakfast deal anymore or stamp ☹️

We had a prawn salad and tuna paying. Both are generously filled and delicious. No wonder this place is so popular!

I lived on the IOW from August 2018 until October 2020 and I wish I was joking when I say, I literally ate here everyday and never once had a bad meal. The staff were always friendly and polite. It’s really easy to enjoy lunch here. The sandwich fillers are so good and the smoked salmon pasta salad was my favourite go to.

I love the freshness of the food, the staff are lovely and efficient. I buy a takeaway baguette 2 or 3 times a month and it's always good.

Always a queue outside French Franks at lunchtime, which is a great indicator of quality - takeaway or eat-in, we've never been disappointed. The deli is always well stacked and there are a myriad combinations of sandwich, wrap, baguette, etc. Noticed last time that the sign over the shop was looking a bit tired, but apart from that ... it's close to perfect.

I've seen a couple of these on my travels around Isle of Wight and if deffo recommend going there. In the run-up to Christmas they do specials on Wednesdays, e.g. Turkey, cranberry baguettes but they run out straightaway. Just try to work out their COVID-19 rules inside the shop when you get there. If in doubt, stand on a yellow sticker.

I must admit we struggled a bit with eating out during our stay on the IOW so it was a pleasure to come across French Franks during a visit to Newport. Newport as the islands capital has seen better days and looking around for somewhere that looked welcoming for a spot of lunch we chanced upon French Franks! Service was takeaway but whether in normal times they offer tables within the premises I don’t know. However there were a few tables outside for customers use. Delicious baguettes were amongst the food on offer and all were made to order. The staff were friendly and helpful and everything looked very clean. On another day we came across FF in Cowes where again we had a delicious lunch and also Ryde where unfortunately we didn’t have time to stop to eat. French Franks is well worth a visit if you are feeling that little bit peckish!

We were looking for somewhere to have some lunch and came across French Frank's. It is clean, a lovely selection of paninis, baguettes and jacket potatos. They're only offering take away at the moment, but there are tables outside that you're welcome to use. There are facilities to clean these before and after use, which is reassuring. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, and they had a great offer on, a large baguette and a coffee for £5 win win in my eyes.

Food was delicious very genorous portions as well. Im gluten free but my partner is not so we ordered one of each type of sandwich. Excellent attention to cross contamination I felt very safe in my choice.

Their salads, especially prawn and avocado, are absolutely delicious. It would be lovely to have listened to some music, maybe, French cafe, whilst sitting outside in the sunny square. Add to the experience. Perhaps there are local laws preventing this?

As someone who has visited all three venues (and someone who really does enjoy my food), I can confidently say that you will be met with impeccable food hygiene, admirable and friendly customer service (this is an understatement, the people who work there are amazing, I’ve never met such personable and welcoming staff). Not to mention a menu choice that will leave you doubting your decision-making skills (honestly, I don’t think there is one thing on the menu that doesn’t sound tempting). The food is outstanding, you can tell it’s well made and with quality ingredients. The pricing is very reasonable also. Recently French Franks opened a third café / takeaway; in Cross Street Newport. As with all their venues, the new place is very well managed, it’s well organised and the food orders are made correctly. The team there are just lovely, I cannot fault them. They have customers queuing out the door because the customers know that they’ll be met with warm and friendly welcome and served high quality, well-made food. Honestly, you must try this place!! I’m sure you’ve been served by miserable and rude staff before; a café, clothes shop, restaurant, supermarket. It makes you less inclined to make a repeat visit you feel put out, annoyed. It feels as if they don’t care about their customers. You will never ever be met by a rude member of the French Franks team. It just doesn’t happen. Believe me each shop is very popular, I doubt they need reviews like this, they don’t need to try, yet they always do!! On a negative, since the new Cross Street shop has opened, my calorie-controlled diet is a thing of the past, but that’s my own fault, and it’s been worth every calorie!!

Walked into town during to take a break from visiting a relative in St Mary’s. The cafe is in the pedestrianised centre of town, next to the church and attractive old buildings. Reasonably priced, helpful friendly service. And a nice view if you choose to go upstairs.

Always the go to spot for lunches on the go. Everything is made fresh to your order, with a wide range of options on the menu and if you want something else they will always accommodate.

Had lunch here today with my wife and 5 month old granddaughter who was in her pram. An excellent selection of food. I chose a large beef and blue cheese baguette and my wife went for a large chicken, crispy bacon and avocado baguette. Both had a large amount of filling and were very tasty. I also enjoyed a large cappuccino and my wife an apple juice. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. They provided hot water in which to heat up the baby’s bottle.

Popped in for a late breakfast - chose a takeaway bagel with smoked salmon. The bagel was assembled in front of me, arriving toasty warm into my hungry hands. It tasted pretty good too. And all at a reasonable price with friendly service. There was a sit-down option too which looked cosy, casual and inviting.

come in here when in town early in the morning hours when shopping to grab a sausage baguette and food is always really nice with pleasant staff. nice grub for decent prices, hence i keep returning !!

Great coffee and a huge range of bespoke sandwiches, baguettes and paninnis to chose from, to eat in or take away. Tables in or outside in a pleasant pedestrian area by the Isle of Wight Minster. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Had a lovely egg-and-cheese baguette from here. You can choose any combination of fillings you like. The shop is in a very nice area in the church square, near a lot of benches where you can eat the baguette if you like. That's what I did, anyway. The baguette was generously filled and tasty. I'd've preferred egg on its own to egg mixed with mayo, but I still enjoyed it. A somewhat messy eat with all the egg mixture squeezing out the sides. But this was just what I needed, plus the coffee, which was good too. French Frank's might now be a chain, but it's a small, island one with high standards. They put Subway to shame.

A firm favourite with my family ! Always visit for lunch when we are on the Isle of Wight. Delicious baguettes with a wide variety of tasty fillings .Can thoroughly recommend French Frank's.

I went in here for breakfast.its a very nice place to eat at as doesn't matter if going in alone or In a group you can feel comfortable there. Food and drinks are very nice there I will be back there tomorrow now.

I always have a lovely baguette here, you can eat in or take away. My favourite drink is the chocolate froyo, whenever I am in newport I always have to get one...so yummy!!!

Set in a wonderful old store, French Frank’s at Ryde serves great coffee and has an excellent selection of fillings for fresh sandwiches and rolls. Plenty of seating inside. Service quick and friendly.

Nice spot in the square where we sat outside for a break and some lunch. Friendly staff and lovely baguettes. It is clearly very popular locally. The only thing letting it down is the access to the toilet. Not sure if I was allowed to use the staff toilet, or whether this actually was a toilet for customers, but either way I had to go through the back of the counter to get there. Very small negative because what can you do about that in a small shop?? I was grateful to be able to use it!

All a bit embarrassing really. We visited here on Sunday to purchase 8 hot chocolates and to get out of the bitter wind for 5 minutes. Either the 2 pleasant ladies missed the cups when putting the chocolate in or they were in a rush to get us served and back out into the cold (we were told that as if was near closing we'd have to drink them outside) either way, hot chocolate it was not, hot milk with a hint of chocolate would be more accurate and that was for all 8 drinks. Embarrassing because our good friends who live on the island so strongly recommend FF's and we're forced to swallow their words rather than their hot chocolates! £20 including the 50p change put into the tip jar should be removed from the till and placed into the RNLI's donation tin as recompense.

Fresh ingredients, lots of choices, friendly staff and good value...ticks all the boxes! 1 wrap, 1 half baguette and a shared soup made for a perfect lunch... recommended!

Staff lovely and food delicious and fresh I always have take outs for my lunch break several times a week.

Come in for breakfast a couple times every week and the occasional takeout sandwich. Always good. Fresh ingredients and they allow you to pile on the extra veg without charging for each item. The specials are good too. They do tend to run out of the hot food early though.

Really fancied some croissant but most bakeries on the island seemed closed over the festive period. Had seen French Franks in Ryde & Newport so thought we would try it for breakfast and avoid the Full English which we had a previous morning. We seemed to be the first and only ones in so ordered and got our food quickly. Had two hot stuffed croissants with ham and cheese, a granola/yoghurt/fruit pot and a ground coffee. Everything was good though it would have been nice to have more yoghurt on the granola. We enjoyed the fresh & healthy breakfast and I would recommend FF to anyone visiting. Food was more reasonably priced and better than Caffe Isola which we went to the day before!

Really enjoyed the food, waitress service really pleasant and helpful. Hubbie is gluten free and they knew what they were talking about. No dogs was a big disappointment, if they put doors on the outdoor, undercover area, it would be a great space for a dog welcome area.

I usually love this place. Always come when I visit Newport. Today, arrived to dirty tables and a squalid floor and it’s only 9.30am! Not busy, but not even acknowledged for a few mins while attendants finished their chat. Really disappointing.

Got told to try out French Frank's as had never been before, coming up to the place we had to que outside where it was busy it was quite chilly and cold but it seemed that's how the que system was.

Nice food but unfortunately no toilets which meant we had to leave without finishing our meal as our daughter needed the loo

This cafe is nicely situated in the town up a side street new a church. The coffees and milkshakes were excellent. And there was a wide selection of food including many gluten free options. Also had free WiFi.

Spotted the cafe and thought it looked more healthy and inviting than the multitude of other places on offer in Newport. It didn’t disappoint. They have a good variety of menu options on the board, but don’t hesitate to build on what’s on offer. Imagine Subway, but with a more wholesome feeling. I had the classic crispy chicken and bacon baguette with avocado, but added feta which was delightful. The kids wolfed their selections down and asked for more. Hubby got one glass of still lemonade, and frankly I could have drank a liter of it. Refreshing! Flapjacks were sweet and chewy. Highly recommend.

The Frozen Yogurt shakes are fantastic. Food is good too. Prices very reasonable. Will definitely come again.

Stop for a couple of drinks and a baguette. Not overly impressed with the service but then they were very busy. Lemon milkshake was not as nice as I have had in another of the Franks establishments

I can easily modify Bill Shankly's famous quote about football being more important than life of death, by removing the word 'football' and replacing it with 'coffee'. I still find it hard to believe there are actually people out there who can get through the day without at least ONE cup of the blessed brew.

A brilliant little cafe at the top of union st, great for a little stop over fora quick tea/coffee and a nice pastry

French Franks has become a firm favourite. The food is delicious and made in front of you, there’s a huge range to chose from and they are also big on using recycled materials. The staff are very friendly and polite and nothing is too much trouble !

Ate my bang bang wrap to quickly to get a pic but it was amazing, excellent coffee. Feeling refused and ready to do more sgopping

I went in here in the morning for a bacon baguette and a coffee. Staff were friendly and efficient. The baguette was fine and I ate it whilst reading the County Press in the first floor dining area. This is a good value place to grab a snack.

As I work in Newport, there are quite a few options available at lunchtime, but there are not many who can offer quality food and service every time, this is what French Frank's does.
