This was our first meal in Edinburgh and it was incredible! We tried almost all of the tasting plates and it was paired with the most perfect wines. Highly recommend!

Noto already has so many accolades that I'm not sure a google review is necessary, but regardless, it was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. My husband and I visited here for a lunch during our honeymoon, and the interior, staff, and food were all immaculate. The prices are accessible, which is really wonderful for how amazing the food is. The Cactus Blossom cocktail was incredible. The service was prompt and discreet, and the decor is understated but intriguing. I'm still dreaming about the avocado, daikon, and rice roll, and I'm afraid that I can't eat gnocchi ever again because nowhere else could live up to the gnocchi from Noto.

We loved celebrating my wife's birthday with our family Noto. The service was exceptional, warm and professional. As we had a couple of dietary restrictions noted ahead of our lunch, the staff were well aware and prepared. The food was (again) fantastic, beautifully served and plates cleared. Will be back!

Awesome hole in the wall restaurant serving up fun small dishes. The north sea crab with warm butter and sourdough is to die for. The beef tartare was very good and the broccoli tempura with togarashi was exceptional. The arbroath smokie croquettes with katsuobushi were also very good and super interesting if you never had katsuobushi before. The ox cheek bao buns with onion and star anise were also to die for and the short rib with maitake, cherry mustard, and celeriac was just good. The prices are super fair and you get great value here. I really enjoyed this spot and highly recommend it

It was the best dinner I had in Edinburgh. All the food is unique and excellent. The portion size per menu is small, and two people ordered 4 dishes and were full. There is also a fusion Korean-style bossam menu, and the meat is really soft, a softness I have never experienced even in Korea. The staff's service was very good, but it was a bit difficult to understand because they spoke so fast. I highly recommend this as a place to have a memorable dinner in Edinburgh.

Just lovely in every respect. Delicious food, great service: you can easily see how they got onto the Bib Gourmand list. We loved the crab butter and the trout temaki especially, but everything we had was excellent. Great cocktails as well. We left completely full and satisfied, which can't be said of every small-plate restaurant! Would definitely return on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Noto is a restaurant offering incredibly innovative, modern Scottish cuisine. The dishes are served “to share” so that you can share the pleasures together. With four people you can try out a lot of things this way. Our highlights were the north sea crab, the beef tartar and the monkfish. Plus a totally committed and friendly service. - Perfect! When it comes to wines, there is still a lot of room for improvement. The drops on offer simply don't offer enough for the prices quoted.

It was ok. The food sounded good but we found it to be heavily over seasoned. We couldn't even taste the crab in the soup. Also the service, while quick, was ok. Taking items off the table before being asked if we had finished is not good service in my opinion.

Food was fine but for considerably cheaper you can get a similar standard of cooking elsewhere. Many of the dishes seemed to involve miso and/or lots of sugar/honey, which isn't really very inventive. Also, maybe I'm comparing with Spain, but cherry tomatoes and sweetcorn aren't exactly delicacies to pad out a small dish with. In short, quite expensive (£165 for 2 for dinner with 1 bottle of wine) and not very imaginative. Service was good.

Booked this well in advance so started to build some excitement, wasn’t a bad experience but also wasn’t anything special. Barely an atmosphere with the blank walls, the food was whatever and the service also lacking with our plates never being replaced throughout the entire service. I think we just expected more for it being “michelin star” but regardless had a nice time with my boyfriend on his birthday because we’re on vacation and it’s hard to be too bummed lol

Very good dishes, friendly atmosphere (minimalist decor and smiling service). But the prices are (very) high compared to the quantities served, even though we are not in a gastronomic atmosphere/standard. So quality/price ratio could be improved, you can go out with a bill of 150€ (with drinks) and still be a little hungry. If you can afford it, very good place for food!

Really enjoyed our lunch at Noto! The food was very good, inventive and well thought out. The cocktails were also great! Our favorite dishes were the crab soup, trout temaki, grilled peach salad and the miso monkfish. All those were so delicate and flavorful and just outstanding overall. The dishes that didn’t hit the spot were the bing bread which was not as soft as imagined and had to much going on with overload of soy sauce and texture problems and the mackerel that we found not the tastiest. Overall a great spot which is trying to do something unique and interesting which I highly recommend to visit for any foodies. The service was also great, as the food was taking a while to come out they apologized and got us a round of drinks on the house which was so sweet!

This place discriminates against Asians, and Asians and Europeans will be treated differently. First, the waiter did not take the initiative to take orders for 20 minutes, did not use honorifics, and did not take the initiative to ask about coats (but asked Europeans very attentively). When complaining, the waiter even glanced at his watch, which is typical discrimination. Secondly, the service of the waitress (in white) with a tattoo on her arm at the front desk was so bad, she is sooooo rude! We arrived 50 minutes early, and she would ask Asian people, do you know what time your reservation is? He seemed to be indifferent. Say the guest means. I don't know where their sense of superiority comes from. I advise our Taiwan compatriots in China not to come. If you are Asian, please do not come here. As I said, the rice is okay and the portion is relatively small. I have eaten at more than 20 Michelin restaurants, and this service is the worst.

Definitely agree with the other 2 &3 star reviews. Was super (super!!!) excited to eat here, however nothing overly stood out about this establishment. Even the presentation wasn't that wonderful and I forgot to take photographs. We tried the northern Atlantic crab (the best dish of the lot), vegetable tempura, tuna with yuzu, gnocchi, coffee Korean chicken and monkfish. We didn't quite make it to the lamb as the lunch service wasn't great -- took 1.5 hours to get to the monkfish and it was lukewarm and rubbery, so we cancelled the lamb as we were a bit fatigued. The Korean chicken was lovely and unique with the bitter flavours and daikon, as well as the home made kimchee. The gnocchi was buttery and fluffy. However most of the dishes seemed over buttered (or over oily with the tempura) and excessively salty. All in all a big disappointment after booking this months ago. :(

This was our first time in Noto, we’ve got served by a lady 2 days ago she was in details with the food but there’s one thing that she said to us that the portions were big to fill you up in a way, so we’ve decided to get 3 starters, 2 cocktails and tap water, the dishes came quickly and we had a lovely North sea crab butter at the start and then we had the beef tartare with 3 small pieces and I thought was a joke I mean it was delicious, so in the end the portion weren’t too big as she said at the start, then the Arbroath croquettes 6 small balls came, not so much again, so me and my partner we’ve decided to calculate in total was £69 but we’ve looked in our faces we’ve though was a joke, drinks were in really small quantity for £12 each and the dishes as I said were small portions, and the lady came asking if we wanted to have “more” food no way!!! is this a kind of way to make spend more money or what??? I get they were delicious but after we’ve paid £69 we were starving and my partner paid for the service, personally if it was me I wouldn’t. If I recommend please go in places were you can spend less and have at least big portions. Unbelievable 😂😂

Would have been 2 stars, but the 2 desserts we had were really good. The food was just mediocre. Not a single dish blew us away, everything was just ok. With all the great restaurants in Edinburgh, I wish we didn’t come here. The desserts saved the meal, The steak tartar - a small portion served on bland potato. All you taste is the bland potato, it’s really a Potato dish, for the price to have 1 tablespoon of tartar on a potato is unacceptable. The Trout Temaki again, unacceptable portion for the price. The seaweed is fried crispy. Very small amount of fish, and messy. The Korean Fried chicken was not a successful dish. It was greasy, had no crunch. Tastes like oil. Gnocchi was average. Fish was very good. Lamb was the worst dish on the menu way over priced. Maybe a 3 oz portion of lamb at most. The food was so bland and average we actually asked for the check without dessert, but instead of leaving on a bad note we decided to order anyway. Both were really good. Not sure I would ever come back, we have had 4 meals in Edinburgh, this was the worst - they add 12.5% service fee. just food, no drinks for 2 people £145. Indian take out would have been a more flavorful meal for £100 less. would come back for dessert only.

I and a friend came for lunch. We had a nice welcome by the waiting staff and were seated close to the window. They explained us how the menu works and we order 4 dishes plus two desserts and two glasses of wine. The primitivo rose had a nice fruity bouquet while the Pecorino was a nice one but standard. Of the four dishes we tried the most nice was the salmon tartare. It had a nice combination of flavors and consistencies. It was the sillier but the nicest. The tartare was good but nothing special, same for the croquettes. The Bao Bun was an interesting concept. But the pulled duck inside was a bit too dry. It would have been much nicer with a sauce inside together with the duck meat. The desserts were simple but very nice. The combination of chocolate mousse and miso was delicious. It was a good experience, but the prices are very high for a beef tartare on potato dauphinoise a salmon tartare with some rice and fried nori and croquettes. The dessert were well priced for their quality. Service was good but not super attentive, but to be honest they got pretty busy. The atmosphere was friendly and but the rooms decor is a bit empty. This review is only focused on Giulia, the manager. She made the entire dining experience at Noto really disappointing. Although food was good, the way we were greeted and dealt with at entry was a bit rude as it soured our overall experience at the restaurant We arrived early to our reservation and came in to see if we could be seated earlier than expected. After a bit of back and forth we were offered a seat at the bar instead of our table with the agreement of being seated when a table is available. Through our entire seating, two different couples that reserved at the bar were re-seated at a table (because we were sitting in their place, ironically). We felt that these actions were a bit spiteful (from the manager), so we nudged again to be seated at a table to be more comfortable. Giulia eventually agreed and seated us in the potentially worst spot in the restaurant - the entire interactions were okay, but subtly rude. Ultimately we highlighted to Giulia that this really soured our night, and instead of trying to fix this, she resorted to gaslighting insisting we were wrong in even ask to be seated earlier than our reservation. All in all, this is just a note to Noto management that such interactions could really be dealt with in a much more amicable way and not leave customers feeling unhappy and a bit angry at the restaurant.

Firstly, the location is convenient and easy to find, which is always a plus.As for the food, I tried the beef tartare, which was good in flavor, but the portion size was a bit small for my liking. However, the North Sea crab dish stole the show for me. It was incredibly creamy and rich, thanks to the generous amount of butter, though it can be a tad salty if enjoyed alone. Pairing it with the bread provided balanced out the flavors perfectly.Additionally, I decided to try the bao bun, and I was not disappointed. The bun was exceptionally soft with a satisfyingly crispy exterior, making for a delightful texture contrast. On the service front, I found the staff to be attentive and courteous throughout my meal. The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated, with some interesting picture spots that add to the ambiance. Overall, while there were some minor drawbacks, such as the small portion size of the beef tartare, the standout dishes and pleasant atmosphere make this restaurant worth a visit.

Most of dish tried to put a lot of irrelevant ingredients together to show off the ‘class’ of it, but sorry, doesn’t work. The popular crab soup doesn’t have the taste of fresh crab, but just butter. We are 2 and spent nearly £150 (including a 10% service fee), and not feeling full at all after the meal. (Normally we would be super occupied after a ramen). Do not believe when they told you “it’s gonna be a big dish” as it will not - except the price will be doubled.

Food was fantastic. My husband and I throughly enjoyed all our dishes. I thought the vegetable tempura was nice but not overly tasty and relied heavily on the dipping sauce for flavour. The beef short rib was again very tasty but a little under seasoned. We ordered 2 espresso martinis at the end which unfortunately were not great. I did complain as they were watery and tasteless. Staff were really helpful about it and agreed to take them off the bill. Overall we had a lovely meal and will definitely be back.

Not thrilled with the food, for a Michelin restaurant I was expecting something ‘wow’, but far from it- the food is average (only the crab butter was very tasty), although service was very polite and attentive, each dish would come every 20 minutes apart from each other which was bit great. Especially the short rib was disappointing, half of the meat was fat. Won’t be going back or recommending to anyone else.

Relaxed and casual environment with very attentive service. Food was gorgeous - they did advise us to order a lot as they are all canapé sized portions. Would love slightly larger bites for a larger price but overall a great dining experience.

Tried out Noto for the first time last night, had seen mixed reviews but can only give my honest review. So firstly, listen carefully to the advice of waiting staff, so you fully understand the concept and decide how much to order. We ordered 4 small plates and one larger one, and finally one dessert. We shared between two people and it was more than enough. Quality of food was outstanding and some fantastic blended flavours. Recommend the Crab, Cod Croquettes, Duck Bao Buns and Short Rib. The chocolate dessert was one of the best we had ever tasted. Service was first class, with helpful advice from the staff. Atmosphere was really good, casual feel to it. Drinks menu has enough for most people. Price was very fair for the standard of restaurant, £159 for 6 course dinner, shared, with 5 alcoholic drinks and this included the service charge. Will definitely return and would definitely recommend trying Noto out. It’s not for everyone but try to understand the concept before you book.

Pretentious restaurant with ridiculous cancellation policy (100£ for two people).

Cool concept but disappointing experience overall. Good food but very expensive and small portions make it underwhelming. Service was okay. We had a cocktail and it was very average, they put a big ice cube to make it look larger than it was. Wine was served warmed. Total bill £130, and we left hungry.

Great places, we were there for Valentine's Day, the cuisine is excellent, modern, tasty and full of different textures, we were served by a lovely person who recommended bars where you can listen to music in the area, it was perfect

Very expensive restaurant with very small portions. Although the food is not bad, it was nothing out of this world. We spent €90 between two people and we left hungry. I don't think the price they charge you for what you eat corresponds, if I'm honest I felt scammed. I wouldn't repeat. Very good service and very good atmosphere.

Superb! The crab butter and sourdough is the most scrumptious appetiser. Get the old fashion and sit at the bar to engage with staff, who are extremely friendly. Chris was especially helpful and I look forward to returning.

My Second visit. Start friendly and accommodating. Food tasty. The buttered crab with sourdough was excellent. We had a wait for our short rib to come - they may have forgotten we ordered it - but it was delicious when it arrived. Rhubarb dessert was so good I could have had it twice!

Noto has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and this is well matched by the staff who are warm, friendly, knowledgeable but not pushy. I went for lunch on a Sunday and had a lovely if not a particularly outstanding meal. The menu is interesting and highly seasonal. I went for all small plates and two desserts and enjoyed a cocktail and a class of white wine. The cocktails almost stole the show - the espresso martini was rich, intense and creamy while the old fashioned was perfectly balanced. The food was good - the crab butter and sourdough was the highlight while the duck bao bun let it down - it felt bland and unfinished. I normally love a tapaa stylw menu with small sharing places but this felt a little ridiculous even between two people - the plates had barely 4 or 5 mouthfuls. While all of the mouthfuls were delicious I just think it was a little underwhelming.

Was really looking forward to Noto as the menu looks amazing and my wife had an earlier great experience. I was a bit underwhelmed, overall. We were warmly greeted by the staff on arrival, felt very welcoming. It's a really nice white washed bar space you walk into. Going into the dining room is a similar decor with the whitewashed walls having the barest of vine decor. It feels really comforting for some reason, which I liked. The staff were first class. Super attentive, and very knowledgeable about the dishes and drinks. A nice glass of orange wine and a cocktail were quickly brought out to get us started. Perusing the lovely sounding menu got us to the position of ordering seven dishes to be delivered in a tapas-esque format. The first dish of brioche with both butter and a whipped tofu chilli dip was delicious. Would of been happy just scoffing more of this all night! I was really looking forward to the crab as a seafood fan. It is more of a melted butter dip than crab. The smal bit of crab is completely overwhelmed by the quantity of butter. Works well as a dip for the nice sourdough, so maybe it needs to have the description changed to be more accurate about what arrives. The fried buttermilk chicken was nice and crispy, but the kimchi didn't pack enough zing to freshen it up. The tempura vegetables were really well done. Cooked perfectly, however veg is usually a lighter/fresher choice and the deepfrying obviously negated that quality of the veg. A citrussy dip might have been good? The duck bao was nice enough, but a lack of sauce inside made the meat feel a bit dry, and not loads of flavour. The arbroath smokie croquettes were delicious and very rich. The sesame seeds complimented them well. Maybe 6 was too many given the richness? The last course was a big chunk of beef rib. Deeply dark meat, and with a very rich gravy. Again, the dish was very rich and heavy, with nothing to freshen it up. It did exactly what you expect of beef rib, but nothing more which might raise the meal up a level. The main problem for me is that none of the dishes had any freshening ingredient or acidity. It just felt very heavy without an element to cleanse your palate or cut the richness. Undoubtedly excellent quality, I could only suggest a lighter touch with the cooking. Hats off the the FOH staff, they were wonderful.

This was our fourth time back to Noto, usually it is our go to for a nice meal. However this time round we were rather underwhelmed. While the food tasted good, the portion sizes were incredibly small. They’ve reduced the portion size on their steak tartare to two small pieces for £14, which is not what it used to be… I suppose they’ve changed a bit. Disappointed.

The food here is ok. They attempt to make really good food but fall clearly short on some items. Over-fried chicken and a short rib that was cooked wayy too fast. The service is very poor with food being brought to tables incorrectly multiple times and orders being completely forgotten. They struggle to serve their customers in an organized fashion.

An amazing meal at Noto for my partner's birthday, a real food experience! We tried to sample as much of the menu as we could, but there's definitely more to return for! The standout dishes for us were the arbroath smokie croquettes which were almost like little crispy pillows of Cullen skink, the steak tartare which was perfectly balanced with a lovely potato crisp for texture, the ox cheek bao buns which were so tender and full of flavour, and the confit halibut with a sauce that could not have been packed with any more butter! We were a little disappointed with the tempura broccoli as the batter had become a bit thick in the head and was doughy and chewy, but it was not enough to throw off the enjoyment of an incredible meal. We rounded off the meal with the a chocolate, miso caramel and hazelnut dessert which was deliciously rich and full of flavour. We will return to try the tuna temaki, crab and potato udon with enoki mushroom as they all sound incredible as well!

Unprofessional and not clear with their rules, didn't let people in for being under 18, even tho the event organisers made it clear that it's for under 18 aswell. The guard / one in charge/ jennie was also SMOKING INSIDE THE BUILDING.

The noodles were excellent thick and chewy. The braised beef brisket was full of flavour, tender and bitey. The broth was very flavourful. It retained clear nourishing quality. If you look for a freshly- made beef noodle soup in Edinburgh, look no further. It is a place you simply must try.

First night of Lotus Leith was fab… Thai prawns… the juiciest satay chicken… flavourful fluffy bao buns and homemade dumplings and spring rolls 😊 All served with the tastiest asian slaw that I’d happily scoff a bowl of on its own…. Give it a try. Can’t wait to see how the menu develops 😊
