Notcutts Rivendell in St. Helens

Visited for breakfast with husband and granddaughter in a weekday. Have always rated breakfasts as ok for the money but won’t be returning until reviews are better. Coffee served in paper cup? Teacake was rock hard and my bacon was very overdone. There are always queues waiting to order, more staff are needed and those who are working need to be far more efficient.

Went for morning coffee and cake this morning with my husband. There was a sign at the entrance saying 'limited food being served due to kitchen maintenance'. We decided to carry on and collected our scones and queued up to order hot drinks and pay. There were 4 people in front of me and after about half an hour I was eventually served with drinks in paper cups! There was no warning of this or any reduction in price! To top it off the scones tasted stale! Won't be returning again any time soon.

Very disappointing lunch. Queued up for quite a while only to be told our choice of lunch had run out - it was only 12.30. Then selected superfood salad with avovado and ciabatta with salad instead. Waited long time for it to come - clearly understaffed. Only got half an avocado on heap of wilting past their sell by date salad leaves a few slices of pepper and chunks of hard beetroot - nothing very "super" about that! Salad with my husband's ciabatta was just as limp and inedible. Wasn't cheap either.

Had afternoon tea for special birthday. Sandwiches fresh. Good selection of savouries and cakes. Staff were excellent even though it was very busy. Big thank you to Tim and Alexa who served us, Tracy for helping and manager Allan for the booking.

Booked a table in cafe for a friends get together. Table beautifully laid out with lovely cloths and all drinks and food served at the table. We all enjoyed our food and the chance for an unhurried catch up. Our server (Margaret) was very helpful and it was the perfect venue for us.

I’ve been to the restaurant countless times and it’s always been good. The cakes are to die for, the food is generous and tasty. Most of all the staff are very attentive and happy to help

Ok so lovely restaurant but expensive for what you get. I ordered ploughman’s and received three thin slices of a bread roll not much bigger than a fifty pence, a small slice of sausage roll and a small wedge of cheese the salad has mixed leaves 3 half cherry tomato and a slice of cucumber. There was so coleslaw and relish. This was nearly twelve pounds my friend had the quiche and salad with new potatoes and salad a small slice of quiche four halves of new potato and the same salad. It was ridiculously over priced and there are plenty of places who offer much better value for money. Feel ripped off

Excellent service provided by Margaret who was very friendly, and took time to ensure that we all were correctly catered for. The meals were excellent, and we all had a very good time. The prices were also very acceptable. Would certainly go again.

We went for a cappuccino today but it wasn't very warm, this is not the first time this as happened I would have taken back but there was a quew, but will think twice about going for a coffee again

Just been to Notcotts garden centre for lunch. I know it is Mother's day so busy BUT a shambles. Food awful, grandson could not eat his, tuna melt trying to find tuna, jacket potato burnt and hard. Roast dinners cold veg undercooked and brown oily liquid supposed to be gravey. Not informed to collect drinks so waited. Had to ask a number of times for desert. Whole experience disgusting.

15 minute queue at the restaurant to find they were proving a reduced menu, no prior communication no signage just not the food availability that we wanted.

I decided to go for coffee while having a look around the shop. When I arrived the restaurant was busy with both sides open. I was approached by a member of staff (Vicki) who was very professional and explained that the serving area to the right was for coffee and cake only if that is what I wanted. This was also explained to everyone within the queue behind me. I decided to have coffee and a scone, but stayed in the queue where I was as I was very close to the till. When i was served by Megan she had previously noticed when moving between both areas to collect milk, I believe there were 2 phones on a table which were mine which I had placed there while queuing. Megan then asked if anyone had left them on the table and I made her aware that they were mine and it was ok, but thanking her for being very vigilant and aware. Once I placed my order I had to wait a very short amount of time before Blake served me my coffee which was piping hot and he asked if I wanted my milk hot or cold, again very much appreciated and professional. All in all a totally wonderful experience had and the coffee and scone were exceptional. A massive thank you to all the staff for this experience especially Vicki who I could see was the manager and ensured all was running smoothly. Also to Megan and Blake for excellent service. I will return again soon.

Came back again today after such a lovely Christmas lunch out with family in December. We had a mini afternoon tea. It was just right. Just the 2 of us and more than enough for us both. Vicki was there again to give us a cheeky spin on things. Perfect Perfect Perfect, no other words needed. Thank you to all of the boys and girls. I wish I could remember all of your names

We call this our favourite place now when meeting up with friends. The restaurant is the main reason the staff are so friendly and helpful and love the tracker system they have in place makes it so much easier. Great atmosphere love it !

My wife & I booked Afternoon Tea to celebrate my sisters 94th Birthday & were very disappointed. Sandwiches of Tuna, Cheese & Egg on dried up bread with no relishes were not very enjoyable, these were followed up by Quiche that was full of water as though it had just been defrosted from a freezer & it was difficult to identify, it's content also it was served on the same plate as the scone & cream so we first thought it was a dessert. All the food was edible but the only enjoyable items were the desserts & scones. We did not complain at the time because it would have spoiled my sisters birthday, We were told & surprised that they only allow for one drink within the cost, the cost of any extra drinks were added to the bill.

I came on the 23rd December for lunch and some last second Christmas shopping. I had the turkey ciabatta and it was wonderful. The food was delicious, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Most importantly, though, the service was spectacular! Vicki is an absolute credit to the restaurant and made for such a memorable visit. Had us both in stitches!

Had the Christmas menu today with friends and it was amazing. We had a beautifully decorated table. Our server looked after us so well. Nothing too much trouble and the food was beautiful. Compliments to the chefs. Would highly recommend. Beautiful food and a beautiful setting. Thank you

We thought we would have Sunday lunch here. The wait to order was 15 mins, once ordered the food arrived in 5 mins and was just edible. We will not be going back here as the wait, quality and the price make it an unattractive place to eat.

As we where shopping we decided to have a spot of lunch, I ordered ham egg and chips. What I was served was absolutely disgusting! I asked for the manager and they didn’t come out! The ham was actually left over bacon from breakfast which had bean juices on (which I didn’t have beans) the eggs where rock hard as though they have been over cooked and left for a long time and the chips where cold. My sister ordered a soup which also was cold! Staff where lovely just a shame the manager didn’t show any concern. I’m always in the store and I’m shocked to how I was treated!

After trying out all the local places in the area for coffee we finally settled on Rivendell for our twice weekly meet up, that was quite a while ago now , a number of years in fact. We like the quality, service and the feeling of a spotlessly clean large airy space. We really enjoy our coffee, tea and toast, but we have also tried all the offers on the menu and have difficulty picking our favourite, although the vegetarian hot pot takes some beating. The prices seem fair bearing in mind the quality and the staff always respond magnificently should you require any help, in-fact they are fab and go above and beyond. Looking forward to our next visit and another memorable meet-up.

Superb restaurant which has a varied supply of food for all dietary requirements. Although it was quite busy the food did not take long to arrive and was delicious (halloumi wrap). There was plenty of staff clearing tables etc. and the whole area was clean....
