Absolutely incredible food. Where do I even begin? For starters I had the pork belly with black pudding terrine and cider jus and the partner had soup of the day which was roasted red pepper and carrot soup. The pork belly was packed full of flavour and had a beautiful bite to it with the cider jus taking the dish to the next level, the soup of the day was absolutely spot on and so rich and packed full of flavour. For mains I went for the rib eye with triple cooked chips and the partner had the slow cooked blade of beef with creamy mash and mushroom ketchup. I asked for a medium rib eye and it came out perfectly. Nice pink wall in the middle of the steak which made it cut like butter you could honestly cut it with a spoon. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the centre. The slow cooked beef literally fell apart with the mushroom ketchup stealing the show. Would absolutely return here and highly recommend to anyone. Food was so amazing I had to shake the chefs (Alex) hand. Thank you Norton House!!

We ordered a full Sunday lunch for the whole family last Sunday 18/10/2020 as a take away. The process was so easy, ordered the day before and it was ready for us to pick up on the Sunday. Well packaged to keep the meals warm and fresh. The meal was delicious, freshly cooked and highly recommend the food from Norton House. It was just like eating in the restaurant freshly made. We have eaten many meals at this Hotel and would definitely recommend. We were staying for 3 days in Mumbles and had two very enjoyable evening meals there on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th Sept although the 1st meal was better than the second one. By coming early before 7 am on both occasions we could order from the early bird menu. My wife had the lamb stew while I had salmon (slight too salty) and one night I ordered the "Welsh cheese selection which was excellent. I ordered Foncanelles chardonnay white wine and as I was driving Heinekin 00 0% abv beers. The service was attentive especially the first night where we were made most welcome although the second time it felt more corporate. The food is good and I recommend coming to this restaurant.

I attended a wedding, we were stuck behind a pillar to watch it, although the food was lovely my honeycomb was burnt and cooked breakfast was tiny. The worst thing of this place was my freezing cold room with a window that didn't close properly and when it was closed was still really drafty. The carpet was covered in powder which I believed to be shake and vac. (I hope it was) you could hear all the noise from the door banging outside. I spoke to staff who all dismissed me with "that's strange" they didn't care about customer satisfaction at all. I even emailed them after I stayed and they didn't respond. Will not be going here again.

We were a party of 24 meeting here for a Christmas dinner. We were greeted immediately upon arrival, our coats were taken and put away, and we were settled in the bar. Bar staff were helpful and pleasant, as were all the staff we encountered. There was a minor problem, as we had all pre-ordered our meals, but one person turned up unexpectedly. The staff rose smoothly to the occasion, and all was well. My starter of chicken liver pâté with onion jam and toasted bloomer was delicious and plentiful. Warm rolls and real butter were served as well. My husband said his starter of smoked salmon Bavarois with horseradish cream and toasted bloomer was excellent. He followed this with Baked Fillet of Salmon with a Crayfish, Mussel & Saffron Bisque, whereas I opted for Turkey. We were both well pleased with our choices. Several others had Guinea fowl, which they all said they enjoyed. Vegetable accompaniments were varied and good, and service was friendly and efficient. My husband chose Spiced Forest Fruit Eton Mess for dessert, whilst I had Salted Caramel cheesecake, and they were both gorgeous (I tasted his). Finally, coffee, tea and mince pies were served, but sadly I could manage only the tea... we all agreed that we had had a wonderful evening and an excellent meal, and wanted to return to the Norton House.

Called for early lunch and was well greeted and seated by a charming member of staff who's experience and professonalism was evident. Our lunch menu was comprehensive and well presented also of high quality. My only criticism was of the pannacota being heavy and very rubbery and not very pleasant to eat, however it was full of flavour. The coffee served was the crowning glory, from the lousy over-perked coffee that used to served from it's perch at reception. This hotel/restaurant has improved greatly over the last few years, and is now a pleasurable experience which we will certainly visit more often and soon. The total bill for two people including drinks and coffee including a three course lunch was £47. -- excellent value --Well done.

Four of us ate here as we were staying at the hotel and thought we might as well. We went for the early bird special, which turned out to be exceptionally good value as the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I would definitely choose to eat here again if I lived nearby. The only slight downside was when I noticed that profiteroles (on the early bird menu) were £5 on the a la carte, so I asked if I could swop to a rhubarb compote as that was also £5. The waiter looked absolutely affronted and said there was no way he could do that as then everyone would want to mess about and swap things. Not the best customer service I've ever experienced. However, he was very helpful when it came to amending our bill to include a free pre-dinner drink as we'd booked directly with the hotel, so all in all our bill for a two course dinner with wine for four came to less than £80. Really excellent value for beautifully presented and tasty food.

On 28th April 2018 I celebrated my belated 80th Birthday. We were a party of ten so I booked some months prior to this and paid the 100.00 Deposit. I live locally and have had some nice meals here but this night was terrible. Two weeks prior to the evening I rang and spoke to Michael and asked if they could get me a Dover Sole for my main meal. He checked with his fish supplier and rang me back confirming that this was fine. I did this as I appreciate that a Dover Sole can be very expensive, but I do not mind paying for the pleasure I normally receive from having this particular fish. I usually have it at home at least once a week so I do know what a Dover Sole should be like and this fish certainly was not as ordered.

We had heard good reports about the Norton House Hotel Restaurant and we decided to try it for Sunday Lunch. We ordered roast beef and roast lamb, both were really delicious and the accompanying vegetables and potatoes beautifully cooked. Desserts were fabulous - we opted for the crumble, profiteroles and white and dark chocolate mousse - this was truly exceptional! To my delight, two pots appeared (at first I thought my reputation for a dessert lover had preceded me....!) one with white chocolate mousse with a dark chocolate mousse topping and the other dark chocolate mousse with a white chocolate mousse topping, this was a lovely way of presenting it and the texture and depth of flavour were absolutely perfect. Worth returning for that alone! We ordered coffees to finish our meal but were surprised that having ordered a latte macchiato, a mug of strong black coffee appeared and, when we queried this, curiously we were told that there had been no mistake with the order and that what we had been served was a latte macchiato! A replacement was given but it came as another black coffee! It was definitely not a latte macchiato and it didn't match the description of what one was on their menu either so that was the only fly in the ointment. After watering it down with hot water and milk it was drinkable so I would bear this in mind for next time. Despite this I would definitely return, the food is absolutely excellent and service from Julia was very professional.

Waiter was good and polite but a tad over the top we like to be left alone to dine ... Was quiet there for a saturday so he was focusing all attention on us. Food was ok...fishcakes were slightly burnt and seafood mix wasn't worth £10... Steak was good and garlic bread. Pudding was not that great profiteroles were too hard. Wine etc was great though. Draft beer exceptional. Over 3 out of 5. Dodgy lightbulb was a problem and they need to address lightning for evening also music needs turning down. Will possibly return if the above is addressed and more variation of food. The service was excellent, the food was superbly presented and the surroundings beautiful. The only indication of any refurbishment mentioned in some reviews was the polite sign just inside the impress entrance porch which mentioned the ongoing works.Special mention must go for the 'Christmas Sticky Toffee Pudding with a Baileys and Butterscotch Sauce' , all I can say is 'WOW !' .I realise reviews are very personal / subjective based on a whole host of factors from the price of the drinks through to the conduct of the people on the next table, all I can say is book with confidence, if you enjoy your meal as much as we did my review will be worth while !

My wife and I booked for dinner here in the restaurant of the Norton House on 21. October 2016. We ordered prawn cocktail to start which was disgusting. It consisted of about six tiny prawns on a bed of stringy inedible stalky something? Certainly not lettuce? We then had what was described in menu as sirloin steak. The steak was totally inedible so tough and grisly that we could not even cut it with the steak knives they supplied? I complained and asked if I could order something else off menu and ordered chicken. This when it eventually came was equally inedible. I do not know how they have for a chef but he or she cannot even cook chicken? My poor wife did not even order a replacement for her atrocious steak which she could not eat as she had experienced quite enough of their horrible food. We were not offered any reduction on the bill even though we paid the bill left and had a wonderful meal at Patricks restaurant Mumbles. So we ended up having to pay for dinner twice. Be warned do not go to eat in restaurant of Norton House. Food disgusting. David & Marion

We were welcomed nicely and led to the drawing room for pre-dinner drinks. One veggie, one gluten free & 5 meat eaters. The set menu didn't have a vegetarian main course as an option, unfortunately , so I choose off regular menu. The starter of baked Brie was nice but a little under cooked as not hot in middle and unmelted. My main course, sweet potato curry was very nice. My mother explained she was coeliac and asked what dish she could have , as most seemed to have a flour based sauce. She eventually settled for chicken supreme and explained she just didn't want any gluten in it. Assuming an alternative sauce would be prepared, off menu. She was presented with dry chicken and chips, the waitress who served it seemed to imply it was My mothers faults , like GF implies she didn't want any sauce. The Irish gentlemen was much more helpful and then offered a herb and tomato sauce on the chicken, which was delicious but beggars the question why it wasn't offered with the meal first. The other meals were tasty but the chips were probably frozen and tasteless. Such a shame, a beautiful, if weather worn hotel, pleasing surroundings and average presented food. I'm sorry to say. We eat out a lot in London and my parents eat a lot in Swansea but I'm afraid we won't be returning.

We enjoyed a special Sunday noon meal with our relatives - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, the works - and of course finished off with dessert - sticky toffee pudding. Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. The food was delicious. This is a wonderful place to go if you want to enjoy a nice meal in a place where you can also have a good conversation in a quiet atmosphere. There was another family gathering also being held out in the garden and what a beautiful area that was.

My partner booked a package for valentines day. We had a warm comfortable clean room with a sea view. The room needed updating and decorating though it was clean with nice white bedding and towels. My partner also paid for chocolates and bubbly which was presented in an ice bucket and rose petals were strewn on the bed it was a lovely touch. The meal was delicious and beautifully presented as was the breakfast. The restaurant area was dressed lovely and the waitresses were very obliging but were not too invasive. The tribute act was very good. We had a lovely time and would definitely go there again even for a meal without an overnight stay

Visited to celebrate my birthday on St David's day. The restaurant offered a special menu for this event plus its normal seafood, set and al a carte menus. We decided to go for al a carte. The choice was good and each course was well presented and excellent. All items cooked to perfection especially the lamb. The waiter was attentive & efficient. A very enjoyable experience. We will go again for our next celebration.

My friend & I had lunch there & on previous visits have always enjoyed it. However, we had the distinct feeling that the place has gone steadily down hill. It was fairly quiet there & the decor quite bland. We chose the set menu..starters of prawn cocktail & whitebait. The latter was uninspiring & served in a small bucket on top of some limp lettuce. The fish was coated in something brown & salty & served with tartare sauce. My friend had a bog standard prawn cocktail. For mains we had Parmesan coated chicken & laverbread battered fish with chips & mushy peas..neither appetising. The menu as a whole was I suspect a simple matter of buying in each course & heating it up with no chef skills involved. Not what the Norton House used to stand for...it will some time before we return if ever.

We stayed overnight here and after arriving late the member of staff on duty happily made us sandwiches. We re-arranged the breakfast table to join another couple we knew who were also staying and the staff at all times were friendly and helpful. We attended an event at the hotel later that day and the vegetarian buffet provided by the hotel was excellent.

My husband and I visited last week for a meal in the bistro. I found the atmosphere and staff excellent. We enjoyed a really tasty meal created by the new chef.I have used this hotel monthly for private meetings and also for visitors as it is the main hotel in mumbles and within walking distance. It is always welcoming and very close to the sea walks around the bay.

Really nice traditional venue with great food, and very professional service. The rack of lamb is very good, and a majority of the components were clearly home made.

We chose Norton House for a family get together with age ranges from 26-86. The menu was acceptable but that was about the only fair thing to say about the experience. The staff brought the food to the table and simply dissapeared every time! We had to go searching for them (in kitchen) every time we wanted anything more. The room we were put in was large and very cold with no other guests present which resulted in no atmosphere and a feeling of being "dumped" and forgotten about. There was a large party in another room which I can only assume was more important than our group of 12. We paid the bill and left without seeing ONE member of staff. Will not be returning.

There were two menus - the usual menu and the Christmas menu. Both had a pleasant range of foods. Some Welsh influences in the offerings - local specialty lavabread in the fish batter and with cockles as a sauce for plaice - that sort of thing. As a vegetarian (fish eating) I had plenty of choice. The food was pipping hot and freshly prepared.

It can be a challenge to find somewhere good to eat on a Sunday evening, so I popped in at lunch time, when the restaurant was very busy, to book.a table. Clearly the popularity of the restaurant at lunch time was reflected in the availability of some dishes that evening. However, all the food was well presented, and the service was excellent.

I ate here earlier this year and the food was lovely. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They had a choice of specials on the evening I ate so I was spoiled for choice. Wine list was also excellent and again the staff were very helpful in pairing a wine to my meal. Highly recommended

Visited once again for a WI celebration lunch and Fashion Show. Enjoyed the goats cheese tart for a starter, followed by salmon. Both delicious, especially the cream dill sauce served with the salmon. Staff are most attentive, four of our main orders were a few minutes late in being served. To rectify this, we were given two bottles of complimentary wine, and fresh vegetables, well received I have to say.Love the atmosphere of this hotel, always pristine laid tables, and fresh flowers (even in the Ladies loos!). Great visit again, thank you Norton House Hotel.

Lovely! Polite, friendly and attentive staff, very definitely a menu for seafood enthusiasts and the desserts are A-MAZING, and this from someone who usually forgoes this particular course. A highly enjoyable experience. As a postscript, we were in The Mumbles for a family wedding and I tried to book the Norton House hotel unsuccessfully. I wish that room had been available as the whole place exuded a far more pleasant atmosphere than the overrated, seafront hotel where we ended up. I get the feeling that those establishments right on the sea ( the Norton House is set only a short way back from the sea walk in its own grounds with plenty of parking) rest on their decidedly-faded laurels. Both the restaurant and the hotel really make an effort.

Last visit was according to Trip was August 2013 but then remembered we did visit for Christmas lunch 2014 and pleased to say that they still do a lovely lunch, a bit of 'style & service' then this is the place for it. Two or three course deals are excellent value for money, you may have a problem deciding what to eat. Deep fried brie or goat’s cheese tartlet was a difficult choice but either should make your mouth water. I was looking forward to the mackerel, perhaps my recent visit abroad made my hopes too high but unfortunately what was served even though it had a lovely flavor was one very small fillet potion. I was so sorry I had selected the laverbread battered fish. The desserts were also a little on the small size but very nice. The hotel has started to be refurbished and they were painting several areas outside whilst we were there. As for the service, not very busy, but the very welcoming manager could not do enough and the service we all agreed could not be better and will definitely go back.

Surprisingly quiet,an undiscovered gem of a place. The house itself is impressive with an old world charm that cannot be manufactured. Sitting outside in the gardens after lunch on a sunny day just cannot be beaten. Our waitress Julia was friendly and efficient. Will definitely be going back again. Not sure I should give this place such a good review as I want to keep it to myself.

We visited at 6:30pm and took advantage of the "Early-Bird" menu. Quite good value for money. Food prep, presentation and taste were good, but not more than that.Service was good, fast and efficient - Staff were polite and presentable - but, something missing - Perhaps too well trained/drilled, and maybe, because of that, no "engagement"/interaction. Decor is, classic/traditional and quaintly "posh" and patrons seem to match - of the "older" (selves included) generation.

Average 'Early bird' menu of steak..belly pork or chicken. If you like fish then this is for you. On the other hand for friday night not very busy. The 'puds' are a treat but nothing to write home about. If you can't get in anywhere else then this is the place for a ok posh meal.

lovely staff very helpful, but the meal was average. Pate was nice but on plain lettuce leaves, chicken was tuff and rubbery the mushroom sauce was lovely but could have done with more, the people I was with thought the beef was better, and the assorted cheese cake was just one cheese cake no choice of a selection. Over all ok for £19.99 I suppose get what you pay for. Been there before for their Sunday lunch which was much better.

We had our dinner at this hotel as non guest to the restaurant. Staff were very nice and friendly. However, the food was average . The seafood platter was not so excited - too much batter . The dish seafood linguine was cooked in an unusual way with red thick creamy sauce. I hope the dishes could be cooked in a tasty way. Perhaps i m a bit too picky.

We went for the 'Early Bird' offer of two courses for £14.95 (between 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm). It's an attractive building and the dining room is high-ceilinged, big-windowed, light and elegant, with ornate cornice and frieze. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. It is a self-styled seafood bistro, although the early bird menu didn't really reflect that. We both had asparagus soup, with croutons, followed by belly pork for me and fish and chips for my wife. The fish had lava bread batter, something we haven't encountered before. We both enjoyed our meal and would certainly call again if we are ever go back to Mumbles. Afterwards, we strolled along the sea front in the evening sunshine, with splendid views across Swansea Bay to the distant hills. A delightful evening.

Seriously if you are considering Sunday Lunch please give this place a wide birth. Why? If the Manager is away it's an absolute disaster Zone. The waitresses are well below standard, the food is pathetic and the service is absolute crap. We were offered 1 drink during our lunch, seriously if the drinks girl and the chef worked for me I would sack them in a heartbeat and would be happy to be taken to tribunal,,,,The Scottish Manager, sorry name unknown is the only endearing feature. Do not waste your money.
