This is a lovely restaurant, very nice to sit and eat in.. I will say though that one of the waiters was hovering a little. No sooner had we put cutlery down the plate was taken immediately. So it felt like we were being rushed a bit.. The food itself was lovely. The only thing is the sea bass had skin left on. I don't mind this but it should have been crisped up.

Just a bit disappointing. The bar area and outside space are pleasant enough - the dining area, randomly named and based on Marilyn Monroe, seems rather cluttered. The very young staff were nice but a little flustered - there were very few customers - not sure how they would have coped with even a couple of more tables. The food was really not great - some of it looked and felt like it had been prepared earlier and kept warm. It was all a little amateurish. It didn’t feel like there was anyone overseeing the quality of what was leaving the kitchen Also, whilst leaving a bottle of unopened wine on the table so that the guests have to ask for a corkscrew and then open it themselves, is not the worst thing in the world, it does point to a lack of training by the management.

Family get together for an early Mother's day Sunday lunch. We were the first to arrive at 12.30pm and after knocking the front door, which was locked, we were greeted by a lady, who I assumed was the owner and a team of young, pleasant staff. Sunday lunch was very tasty, but the plated food, was quite cold and the side dish of vegetables and gravy, were luke warm. The apple pie for desert, was cold and served with like warm custard.

We had an incredible Christmas Day lunch here, the service was excellent, along with the very tasty 3 course Christmas dinner, we couldn't fault any aspect of our day. The staff were very attentive and it was very busy, which added to the ambience. Would definitely recommend and we shall visit again in the New Year.

Visited today for a festive evening meal. This is the worst meal we have ever had in Wales/UK. Far below the quality of other restaurants/pubs/wedding venues in Gower. Starters: potato and leek soup, and seafood cocktail. Both were pretty average. Mains: lamb wellington, and orange duck. Both mains were clearly re-heated given the lamb wellington and the duck breast came out of the kitchen within less than 10minutes of our orders being placed. The lamb was of poor quality, half undercooked and chewy. The duck was overcooked and hard. We were not able to finish either dish (actually didn't feel safe to finish them), and we are not fussy eaters. Both dishes were of very poor quality and poorly executed. Drinks: pina colada, which was far too sweet and didn't look like there was any coconut milk inside (just tasted like cheap, plain pineapple juice from the supermarket). Staff were unfriendly, cold and charged us the entire meal despite the negative feedback we provided them with. This is a rip off. Will not return and do not recommend.

A great range of hand picked meals on the menu all of which look and sound delicious. Attention to detail of all courses was great. The food was very impressive. Nice selection of drinks and delicious desserts. The younger waiting staff felt like they lacked confidence, but were obliging and helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend going here.

Had a Groupon voucher for 4 for Sunday lunch, and could not be happier. We chose a late lunch slot, got there early, so had drinks in the garden while we waited for our table. Plenty of shaded seating in a beautiful wooded valley setting. The starters and mains were very well presented and very tasty. My wife and I had a Beef roast and it was very good. Very tender and plenty of it. Good selection of veg to go with it. Drink prices were reasonable and the house wines we all enjoyed. Will definitely eat here another time. It is an assumption on our part, but we probably would avoid a Saturday as the hotel is a wedding venue.

Shocking , tried to book using a prepaid voucher . Had to redeem it while on the phone to then be told it had expired . Didn’t say any date until I downloaded it while in the phone . Instead of doing the decent thing and offering to at least take the amount off the booking even if not honouring it in full , wasn’t interested. Essentially happy to just steal the money . Sadly , business practice as shady as it was at the end of the tenure of the old owners . Appears they’ll go the same way . Deservedly so after this experience .

We came here for the tapas night which we were really looking forward to however we were treated awfully by the staff. I have never met such rude waitresses and will not be returning. We waited 1hour 20 just for bread to come out which we had to beg the waitress for who said no it’s all coming out together. Any decent restaurant who is obviously having a lot of delays in the kitchen would bring out bread (which we had ordered at the start). The atmosphere just felt awful as the staff were so stressed and miserable they threw the plates down when they finally arrived. We weren’t allowed to speak to the manager as they were “busy with someone else” and the dark haired waitress refused to give her name so we couldn’t complain about her attitude towards us. The food was good but I’ve had a lot better tapas. The tortilla was over cooked and the pastas bravas lacked any spice. The chef was lovely and had no idea we had waited so long. The waiting staff really need proper training on how to talk to customers.

Well I don't normally do this but I can't believe how badly we were treated in the new gower hotel in Bishopston, firstly the pretentious hostess was extremely rude and arrogant, when she asked for our orders we asked for more time, she tapped her watch and glared before storming off. the camembert starter with bread came with only 3 breadsticks! The chicken and chorizo skewers were dry. For mains we ordered steak and it was rare rather than medium rare, when talking to the chef he caused a scene saying that he had been in the business for 50 years and who did I think I was taking badly to him, I have been a chef for 20 years and know how a steak shoud be cooked. It looks like the 'chef' had either cooked the steak from frozen or undercooked it for our stated preference. Photo to follow. We paid £145 for the worst meal I've had in a long time, I hope the owners read this and become aware of how shocking the service was in their restaurant. I have never done a complaint like this before but felt it was necessary with this service.

We dined at Munroe's for three nights as part of our stay at the hotel. Excessively spaced tables for the most but hopefully be back to normal soon. Food varied from good to reject. I notice that in August 20 someone had the risotto and said it was rubbish. It still is rubbish. My wife sent it back as inedible. A 10 oz rump steak came in 2 parts, mostly an 8 oz sirloin with a bit of rump to add the 2 ounces. It, was however a good steak(s). The chips were the nearest to "amphibious landing craft shape" yet encountered. Not quality chips by any stretch. Some items on a plate could be almost cold, whilst other hot. Some of the dishes were good. Its just the standard varied so much. The staff were all very charming, but clearly needed more training in all aspects of restaurant service. The single ply napkins used to wrap the cutlery were totally useless and an insult. In our chats with other guests, our experience matched theirs.

Having stayed over in the hotel and dined here of an evening several times lately and having thoroughly enjoyed the excellent food, service and ambiance, when the Welsh Assembly destroyed our plans for an evening 5th wedding anniversary celebration in cardiff, we felt that trying Sunday lunch at our new favourite place would be suitable. As no alcohol may be served in Wales we tried the mocktails on offer and to be honest, if you didn’t know they had no alcohol in them you’d never know! We both had the prawn cocktail and it was the archetypal classic prawn cocktail, the kind of thing if you’re fancying a prawn cocktail, this is how you want it to be presented and taste. For main courses we differed, my wife had duck which was delicious with a mild almost oriental spice flavour that complimented bird perfectly. I had the classic roast beef which was tender and full of flavour. The accompaniments (roasties, parsnips, Yorkshire’s and various boiled veg) were perfectly al dente and the gravy was rich and flavourful. For dessert we both had the apple and pear crumble with custard which was again delicious and again, if you desire a traditional fruit crumble this is for you. Overall cannot fault the food or service as usual. I really hope the business survives the ridiculous response of the Welsh assembly to the COVID pandemic as the effort that they put in means they truly deserve to.

We were squeezed in on a busy Monday night by the lovely manager here and enjoyed our dinner. There were some oddly executed dishes (scallops and black pudding, where the scallop was cooked then finely sliced and the black pudding came in huge scallop-dwarfing chunks) but overall the food was good, especially the hake. It was really well laid out for the Covid precautions and service was great.

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU SUFFER FROM ALLERGIES - Awful experience at the Monroe Restaurant at the Gower Hotel today after being served mashed potato made with butter and milk after explaining that my baby is allergic to dairy and I cannot therefore eat it (due to breastfeeding). I was told they did not have an allergy menu when I asked and instead the waiter put a dash next to items on the menu that I could not eat. I later found out that these were the items I could eat. I ordered lamb served with mashed potato and the chef later told me he had recommended that I have crushed potatoes instead. I was not given this message, the waiter therefore knowingly served me dairy. I was also told that I could eat a lemon crème brûlée but I was uncertain and asked him to check again, he then removed the desert telling me that he was sorry but actually it did have dairy in it. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told there wasn’t one, and when I asked who was in charge the waiter responded that he didn’t know but that I could speak to him or the chef. It was upon speaking to the chef that I realised I had eaten dairy in the mashed potato. At best this is a complete lack of training but I am deeply concerned at the dismissive attitude both the waiter and chef displayed in this situation. My baby will now have vomiting and diarrhoea for the next 2-3 weeks while the dairy leaves my system, thankfully the allergy is not more severe. I dread to think what could have happened if somebody with a more severe allergy should eat there which is why I am making this public.

A quality meal that could have been superb if more sauce had been available. For starters hubby and I both chose the scallops - delicious. For mains hubby chose the lamb which he enjoyed. I chose the pork which was good but as the meal didn’t have enough sauce to cover the vegetables, it was rather dry so I couldn’t finish it. The lady opposite us also complained that her meal didn’t have enough sauce either. A jug of sauce alongside the meal would have made all the difference. I did say at the time but was told the meals were made to order so more sauce was not available which was unfortunate as with more sauce this review would have been 5 stars.

We wondered what might be on offer becasue Sunday lunch can be difficult on Gower for various reasons : vast numbers of people , no people, post Saturday wedding fatigue, or just don't do Sunday lunch..... We were welcomed v warmly by the front-of-House. Drinks and Menu were offered immediately. The menu was lmited but more than enough for a Sunday lunch. Dietary requirements could be met. The Goat's chees tart Starter was amazing. My guest thoroughly enjoyed the Salmon/shrimp Starter. Each was presented beautifully and each v v tasty. The pork belly Mains was sensational accompanied by a wonderful selection of veg served separately - beautifully cooked, firm but not brittle - and accompanying plated roast and boiled potatoes, roast parsnip, superb Yorkshire and a separate generous gravy boat. The chicken was cooked to perfection and plated beautifully. Sadly we could not manage dessert but the Menu was v v tempting.

Got the chance to try their new Autumn Menu. As a party of 6 we nearly all chose different options. The fillet steak was by far the best I’ve had, served with mushrooms, tomato and chips with a side of peppercorn sauce. The other meals were all amazing both in taste and presentation. The desserts were amazing too. Shame we had to share as too full for 1 each. The restaurants decor, lighting and music was really lovely. Although it was quiet the layout of the room meant we didn’t feel uncomfortable. Looking forward to returning for their Sunday lunch very soon.

I've eaten in this restaurant three times before and usually been disappointed with the service and the food. But this time, the restaurant seemed to have upped its game. Sensibly, there is 2 for 1 lunchtime offer, to attract customers - much needed since the restaurant is usually pretty empty - and this doesn't make for a great atmosphere - couple with the dingy lighting and lack of windows.

It’s easy to forget about this restaurant, tucked away next to the church in Bishopston Valley. We tried it for roast Sunday lunch today and it was excellent value for money. Plenty of meat, a veggie nut roast option and, the highlight for me, lots of perfectly cooked vegetables. We came here after hearing of their vegan menu. It was limited but nevertheless there were a couple of choices. Unfortunately the food was terrible. The ingredients were few (I had a mushroom and spinach curry (one leaf of spinach the rest was literally just mushrooms in a flavourless sauce.; the flavour generally was lacking; or as in one dish completely unbalanced, swamped by cardomom seeds still in their pods, and was inedible. This was the worst meal that we have had for a long, long, time; and I include regular eating in gastro pubs not known for their vegan choices. Monroe's was an excellent choice for our last dinner on our holiday in South Wales, after having a few days of pub food. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere, the service was excellent, and the food was elegant and amazing. It was a Monday evening so there weren't a lot of other people but this wasn't a negative thing. We were just wondering if more people have found this great place and if it's usually busier on other evenings (hope so!). I took my wife here for a wedding anniversary meal. We were well greeted and had pre meal drinks in a cosy area. The meals were adequate but not good value for the cost. There were many small points that spoiled the occasion, the soup was just warm, l continued to eat it as it was because I had two choices 1. Leave my wife eating her starter alone while waiting for it to be heated and then her waiting for me to have my starter or 2. Eat it as it came. Other points are, steak not cooked to order, no steak knife brought with the steak, hidden extras the steak came as a steak that was it, any veg or potatoes came at a extra cost. Doing it this way hid the true cost of the meal. The sugar bowl came with a small amount of white sugar in it, surely the coffee should have come with brown sugar? Things seem to run at a tight budget here, the menu covers still bearing the name of Dylan's the previous owners. The lights on the steps that were on at arrival but not on when leaving this made a difficult exit as the area was very dark. This restaurant will not survive unless these points are rectified, for me it spoils the whole experience if you have so many points that can be avoided with a better eye for detail by the staff. You either have to complain or get on with it, for a supposedly fine dining establishment you should not have so many points that give cause for complaint. To end on a positive note, the girl who was our waitress for the night Laura did a very good job and should be commended for her work.

I was really looking forward to this, the menu sounds lovely. 5 of us visited and 3 opted for the duck for mains. Unfortunately this was very overcooked, but 2 ate it anyway. When I got a burnt bit, that just did it for me and I left the rest. The "fondant" potato with it was obviously pre-cooked and reheated, so was tough on the outside too. Hardly any veg, despite being assured everything came with vegetables. On the other hand, apparently the steak Dianne and turbot were excellent. We were given complimentary sweets by way of compensation, and those who had them seemed to enjoy. I opted for cheese board as don't eat sweets, but the cheese had only just left the fridge and 2 of the selection were "flavoured" which personally, I don't like. Less cheese taken out of the fridge earlier in the evening would have had a better impression, thank goodness we didn't pay the £9 price tag this came with! Having said that, there was more than enough for 2 on the board, so if you like mustard or smoked flavour in your cheese, this is a great option to share. Nice to see they were Welsh cheeses though. The manageress came out to have a chat with us, and other diners. I am hoping, for their sakes, these are just teething troubles having recently re-opened, but despite my other half assuring her we would be back (he had the steak) he'll be going without me. Sorry, it's the first time I have ever left a restaurant without eating my dinner and despite the free puds, I didn't expect to have to pay for something I didn't eat. Starter was pleasant, though nothing to rave about and spoilt by the appalling dinner. Such a shame!

This gem of a place is tucked away in Bishopston valley woods. With this unique and tranquil setting you could be anywhere in the world. To add to this you have a very classy and ambient restaurant. As if this isn't enough he Sunday roast was the best I've ever had. Everything was fresh, plentiful and cooked to perfection with an array of delicious desserts to choose from. Was made to feel like a VIP. From start to finish by all that served us. Everyone was so warm and friendly. Really don't know how I've missed this gem of a place

Having heard rave reviews regarding the Gower Hotel and it's food offering @ Dylan's Restaurant we booked tickets for the Bank Holiday BBQ which also included a local band - a Spanish duo who were great and set the tone for a fabulous day with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The hotel itself had some fabulous interiors, we had a sneaky peek at Dylan's restaurant and it looked really cosy and will definitely be booking a table for upcoming birthday celebrations :-) The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable especially about the locally sourced produce. The food itself was fantastic ..... succulent cuts of meat and the beef brisket tasted out of this world. I would highly recommend and am now counting down the days to my daughter's birthday celebration where we get to sample the delights of Dylan's .....Cant wait!!

We aimed for Oxwich but the queues turned us back. We sat outide the Gower and enjoyed the procession of hopeful drivers heading west. We opted for club sandwiches. The bread was good, the filling, or lack of it, disappointing. It appeared the contents of three sandwiches, 6 slices of bread, were a moderate-sized chicken breast chunked not sliced and 2 slices of bacon, slivers of avocado, a fair bit of lettuce, a couple of slices of beef tomato, smears of mayo - hardly a total of £11s worth But they allowed dogs, which is always a bonus

My family and I went here for Sunday lunch. We've been here numerous times and it has always been brilliant, apart from there being a long wait for food.We sat outside and my sister ordered soup which was mediocre, I ordered what I thought was mackerel Niçoise salad. It came out as three whole mackerel on limp lettuce covered in oil. I asked the waitress and she took it back to the kitchen and another waiter Ben who was lovely came out and explained that it wasn't Niçoise salad there was a one letter spelling difference, as I am not French or a chef I think it was a easy mistake to make. I was just about to say ok no problem I will still pay for it when the chef comes storming out to where we were sitting with our children, very intimidating and aggressively saying that there was nothing wrong with it ect... We were all absolutely appalled at how unprofessional he was, we had to leave before even having our mains. Really upsetting experience. I do want to say however our waiter Ben was brilliant and really seemed to empathise with us and remained professional even though being in a uncomfortable situation.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Dylan's on Sunday for my friends birthday. The starters were all very tasty and the lamb was superb (the orange and blueberry sauce was outstanding), with the lamb melting in my mouth. Our friends also enjoyed the fish dish. My desert of Eaton Mess was lovely.Gower Hotel is in a beautiful quiet setting and Dylan's restaurant is well thought out (although a tad dark for my liking), and we would all definitely visit again.

Our first impression was of lovely surroundings with a welcoming patio area on a fine Friday evening, inside, however, was dark and oppressive with no ambience. We were the second diners to order but not all of our party of six could have their first choice as we were told that there were only three Lemon Soles left. The food was good but overpriced and the wine extortionate. We found the staff to be unprofessional apart from our waitress who was the exception. Service being rather slow the whole evening took two and a half hours. Being locals we were looking for a new dining experience and we certainly found that and will not return.

We ate in the restaurant on two nights during a recent stay, sampling four different main dishes all of which were superbly cooked and presented. The Haddock was a giant leap from the normal fish and chips with great flavours. The Beef Wellington again provided memorable flavours. Service was helpful and relaxed with staff adopting a friendly and attentive manner. This was a step up from a meal you might expect in a city centre hotel with a similar rating. We also had breakfast throughout our stay and again the food was excellent with a good choice.

Dropped in to have a meal and were disappointed with the price and quality of the food. I am happy to pay for great food but £8 for an asparagus starter which was a bowl of lettuce with 4 spindly sticks of asparagus? Flavour was good but this dish is very overpriced. My main course of vegetable terrine stew was good, but £16? My partner had the smoked haddock fish and chips which was a small piced of battered white fish with no smokiness. The restaurant does look lovely, but I wouldn't go again as just not good value compared with all the other restaurants on Gower.

I'd read some good reviews of this restaurant but was disappointed by its mediocre restaurant offering. It was overpriced (now I know why they do voucher deals!) and the ambience was lacking. We had the steaks at ~£20 each and the comment at the end was that the 'chips' were good!! So much for the sirloin. Service was attentive, house wine was good. Will be returning for a family birthday celebration, I hope to have a better experience.

What an absolute nightmare from start to finish , what were supposed to be my 40th birthday meal with all my family and friends ,turned out to be stressful and not very enjoyable. I was asked to pre-order off the menu weeks before as there were 15 of us. That was not a problem . It's a very expensive restaurant for the service and the food. I had spoke previous to the restaurant about the table layout .when I turned up we were sitting either side of restaurant in 2 rows this was a bit weird. There was a massive gap running through the middle of the tables , so to talk to anyone we had to shout. When I asked for more chairs they said oh we don't have any . This was clearly a lie as on the way to the toilets I passed a number of chairs layout for the weddings they do over weekends . This was a Monday Night . The rest of the restaurant was fully booked mostly with couples. I felt that staff were not attentive , not helpful and not many of them. The food all came out in different stages , some people hadn't even had their starters and staff started to bring out the main course . A few of us sent food back for being cooked wrong. I feel bad for asking for chairs and felt they could have done a lot more to make my experience with my family a lot more enjoyable. My uncle even drove from Exeter for the family meal and then was driving straight back. I had expected a lot more from this hotel and restaurant for the price. Was really gutted that so many things went wrong.

The location is lovely. The restaurant is very attractive. The service was slow unfortunately. The waitresses friendly. The beef was very good but the cauliflower cheese was dry and we had to ask for various items which should have come with the meal such as a roll with the soup and apple sauce with the pork. For the price it could have been better. Perhaps it was just a bad day.

I usually don't write review's but this time I feel I have to voice my opinion. It's hard to put a finger on what was wrong, but it just feels like the whole place is grey. There's no soul, and more importantly, there is no happiness amongst the staff. Sometimes when going out for a meal I leave happy even though everything wasn't 100% because the staff was enthusiastic and smiling! The greeting we got from reception was very cold and rehearsed. The service was very "correct" but again very impersonal. The food looked very good, but tasted of nothing. There was no seasoning, no thought behind it and all just very bland. It probably didn't help that the dining rooms is so dark you can hardly see what's in front of you. It's very gloomy with dark walls and very dim lights. I'm sure the intention is to create a romantic and cosy atmosphere, but we left feeling slightly depressed. All in all this was a meal I want to forget and I doubt I'll ever return.

Delicious fat and juicy sirloin steak, triple cuts chips (most of which my partner nicked!), mushrooms and a green pepper sauce. Perfectly cooked, really tasty, couldn't fault it. However, some of the staff seemed a little confused. We were offered dessert before we'd even ordered a drink! All very friendly and not a big issue but if they were a touch more switched on it would have made the experience nearer perfect.

Beautiful restaurant, and friendly staff. Enjoyed a meal with the family for our daughters birthday.Choice of starters, but starters weren't explained, and 2 of the party ordered what they thought was pate, and it was raw salmon, which wasn't to their taste. The staff were new, and we should have checked.Food was lovely, we all had steak which was tasty.A really good selection of bread.Had 3 different types of prossecco. Nice place for a treat.

We ate at Dylan's twice. The small menu did not disappoint, and we enjoyed each dish we tried. The goat's cheese souffle was fabulous, as was the fresh fish. The wine list is also small, but reasonably priced with something for everyone.

My wife and I spent two nights in the Gower Hotel and both nights ate at Dylan's. The food on both occasions was excellent. The menu is not too long and as a consequence you know the food is freshly cooked. Both the starters and main courses could not be faulted and were delicious. With a good bottle of Chianti, the bill came to about £90 on each night. We did not have room for desert but the desert menu looked very good

The fixed price menus (two or three courses) are not cheap, but the quality is excellent: we could not fault an inventive smoked salmon starter with an Asian twist, my wife was delighted to be able to order a wild mushroom canelloni garlic-free, and my pork steak was mouth-watering. Despite the presence of one large group, there was just the right 'delay' between courses. Given our appetites and the home-baked bread, we never got to desserts!

Imaginative menu with some very nice touches - the House Baked Buttermilk Granary Bread and Virgin Olive Oil Focaccia Loaf with Black Truffle and Tonka Bean Butter a foretaste of the delights to come. The hickory salmon starter is to die for, as is the hickory smoked halloumi cheese off the Mains. Dining five nights in a row, we sampled many of the dishes and are happy to report that all are prepared to perfection and presented appetizingly. Easy to understand why this is such a magnet for discerning diners from the surrounding area, as well as for hotel guests wishing to sample some truly excellent food and wines without the need to drive. As with the rest of the Gower Hotel, Dylan's is furnished and decorated in attractive Boutique style and makes for a perfect setting for intimate dining as well as for entertaining.
