Norton Fisheries in Dudley

Thought I’d try a change from my usual chippie. This place only seems interested in online orders. I couldn’t make their web ordering system work, so decided to just walk in (which is how I normally expect to buy fish and chips). When I went into the counter in the empty shop, I was totally ignored by the two young lads who were putting web orders together. Looked like lots of items just hanging about. Eventually one lad glanced at me and grunted “be with you in a minute” and then two of them tried to cut a doner. I walked out and went to a different local chippie.

No bad words about this place. I used to use it very often when in the mood for a takeaway. Portion sizes are good, normally leaving much for the next morning, whether that's my small stomach or genuinely massive portions, that's for you to decide. Staff are fairly young, polite and friendly, always a nice bonus. The food itself is fantastic, had no issues before with anything, and prices are very good in comparison to other eateries both local and national. Atmospherically, it's quite a small gaff, adorned with electronic menus and screens showing food and awards they have won. Brilliant place to go if you've got the money, glad it's close by.

Been here a thew times now and have loved the food every time.

Lovely staff to greet you. Everywhere looks clean, staff also look clean and smart. All of the food I saw looked fresh before being cooked. After cooking it all looked and smelt delicious The taste of the fish and chips is the best you could wish for. The prices are also reasonable

Ordered a large Cod and chips , the Cod was the size of a mini fish and grey & black , Cod is white pollock is that colour, chips where all bad , won’t bother again, stay well clear .

Vastly overpriced!!! We just had a large cod, 2 tinned roe and a portion of chips, almost £20. Fish was a rip off. At first it appeared to be quite large, although thin, however most of it was greasy batter. The actual fish meat meat was the equivalent of about 4 fish fingers. It was also overcooked. Wouldn't recommend them and we won't be buying from there again.

Ok, it was 10 minutes before closing, but my medium cod when I got home, was a wafer thin piece of plaice. The sausage was tasteless and the two portions of chips in a single box was mostly batter. £11.60. Awful value for money. Never again.

I bought chips and mushy peas from this fisherie. They were the worst chips I have ever tried to eat. Hard to eat and tasteless. I think they were left over from the lunchtime trade. I ate two and threw the rest in the bin.

Had medium cod and chips, the cod was lovely, the chips awful, I was looking forward to this meal, the chips were dry and no fluffy inside, I think they were cooked chips gone cold and reheated.

Decided to give this one a go tonight, as had a night out planned and needed a quick tea, local chinese not open not usually a chip shop customer, although I have given merchants on the island a go for a bag of chips for lunch in the park with a friend.Was so expensive So what can I say 2 lightly battered roe, a portion of chips and a really succulent piece of sfc plus a curry sauce for under a tenner. Bargain Will certainly pick up a few sfc to do with my own chips and salad Staff really friendly Xxxx

I often use Merchants or Wollaston Fish Bar, but we decided to give Norton Fisheries a go. I opted for the £7 medium cod meal: medium cod, medium chips and mushy peas. The cod was maybe smaller than a medium you'd get elsewhere, but it was the ideal size, on my opinion. Great crispy batter and I had the option to have battered chips...these were so good. Not greasy, and instead felt like mini hash browns. Might now be my chippy of choice!

Honestly didn't want to leave a bad review. I've been going here for years, the manager is really kind, and the staff are lovely, unfortunately the food has been going down hill, the chips are never the same normally have chips that you can't really eat, I've been reiceveing uncooked food, most food that we receive is very greasy.

Yummy battered chips.. potentially my fave battered chips in the Black Country. Come before 7.30 to avoid them running out of battered chips (although the regular chips are tasty too!)

I was served by a lovely lady with glasses on the til that had exceptional customer service skills. All the staff were working as a team and the service was quicker than fast food. Jimmy was really friendly and chatty talking to customers.

Decided to try Norton chippy again as it’s local but once again food was awful,battered sausage full of grease,chips crunchy but once you bite into them full of grease,meal was thrown away yet again,another was of money

The chips are chunky and to die for! Everything we’ve ordered has been good quality and fresh.

Purchased a large portion of haddock and chips this evening. OK but small. However the medium sized haddock for my wife had little more fish in it than a fish finger. Last time we will go back.

Chicken was vile, slimy and gristle. Chips not very warm and there was 2/3 things they didn't have. Very disappointed, last time was awesome...

The battered chips are insane !! 13.00 tuesday, drove to merchants and oldswinford, both closed. Thought I'd give this a try, amazing !!

Maybe Wednesday is a quiet day but when you go there at 7.30 pm when they close at 8 it's not much use finding the fryers are already turned off, and had been for some time and you had a choice of what was already cooked which was obviously not going to be anywhere near enough for the people already waiting to order. I won't be back!

Long wait for food at counter. Food OK, nothing special.

I went for a portion of chips and gravy at 1:00 today. The place was clean and staff seemed friendly enough but ultimately you go for the food and that was a real let down. The chips were old, cold and extremely dry. Gravy portion was small too. Just moved to the area so looking for a new local chippy but I will definitely keep looking.

We order every week as the food is brilliant. Since they’ve got rid of Uber eats for delivery it has gone ridiculous! tried to order off there app as it says on the home page ‘Our Takeaway offers delicious food at competitive prices! We now have a website, where you can order online - choose from our entire menu, order your favourite dishes and have them delivered straight to your door!’ So we ordered online payed online only for them to ring us and tell us they don’t deliver 😡

Awful, just a burnt mess, used to be very good. Used to have standards but that the last twice now, first time gave you the benefit of doubt but now I give up with the place. Such a shame

Fantastic chippy. Plus on Uber eats which is great! Their chips (I like the plain) are amazing - chunky but light and crispy. Best chips I have had. Plus I recommend their wraps! They are in a Naan type bread and taste amazing!

Always order from Uber eats and Deliveroo for myself and mom. I don’t understand the bad reviews I have NEVER had a bad meal from here EVER and I’ve been going in here for years!! The chips are always cooked to perfection and so is the chicken and the portions are perfect! Ordered again last night for a delivery from Uber eats to my moms in Norton and myself in Brierley hill. Food arrived perfectly packaged and warm to both locations. My mom had cheesy chips and a chicken breast delivered and I had delivered chicken breast chips and mushy peas … absolute perfection!! Sooo tasty and the portions are just right!! Definitely the best chippy around!! Ignore the bad reviews and try it for yourself!!

I see them mucking about with delivery drivers knowing they get another 1, how rude to drivers no acknowledgment of them whatsoever , while they mess about food does get cold !

Check your order before leaving if you’re a walk in customer as they got mine wrong. Staff seem too busy dealing with online orders. I’ve used this chippie over the years but will go elsewhere from now onwards. Their prices are a bit steep too. Not worth it. Wollaston and Merchants much better for walk in customers.

Spent £21 on greasy fish and chips. Hadn't been here for a while and didn't realise it had changed hands. Shan't be going again.

*!Avoid!* I live in Stockton-on-Tees and accidently ordered from this fish and chip shop. I was told like many others leaving reviews this has happened before due to our local shop sharing the same name. I enquired about a refund and was spoken to in the most disgusting aggressive manner. I'd barely said Hello and the reason for my phonecall before the employee (possibly the manager) launched into a verbal assault. I won't give him the time of day by repeating here exactly what he said. Appalling attitude and customer service! Do not give this business your custom!

Used this chip shop for a couple of years, lately quality of fish has gone down, fish half the size it used to be, more batter than fish, will look elsewhere

I live in Norton Stockton. I accidently ordered with this place. A genuine mistake. I rang and was told that i could not have a refund because the food was prepered for me. Surelly its a fish shop and could have sold to another customer but they refused a refund. It cost me £18.00 for nothing. I spoke to the manager Jimmy who refused to give me a refund. Apparently its happened several times before and will happen again as the main site doesnt say Norton Fisheries Stourbridge. Its all about profit even at the cost of others. He could of offered a partial refund but nothing. Probably sold my order to another customer as well. What happened to good old decency and being nice to those less fortunate than you. This is the world we live in now

Called in this afternoon to just get a portion of chips asked what I wanted was told not enough chips for my order said I don’t mind waiting then the assistant said I can do a small batterd chips I said no I don’t mind waiting. Then I was told we shut at 2pm it was ten to 2 that’s fair enough but surely this should have been told to me before I tried to order. I just feel that if you can afford to turn business away this is not a good situation.

Used to be a great chippy which I have been to many times over the years, but I won’t be going back. Ordered before on Ubereats for delivery but it always takes ages, sometimes well over hour and half to arrive, so tonight I went to collect instead. Pick up time was 1920 - when I arrived at the pick up time I was told they were just getting my order ready. I waited outside until 1945 when they told me they didn’t have any gravy (I ordered 2 x large tubs of gravy) - they said they would refund these. At 1950 my order was finally ready - the lady serving said she had managed to find 1 large gravy and she refunded the other one they didn’t have. When I got home the “large” gravy was more like a congealed spoonful. The “chicken fillet burger” was definitely not a fillet burger - more like a frozen, dry, tasteless piece of reformed chicken that you wouldn’t expect to pay £4.76 for! The chips were obviously not fresh - they tasted very dry. It’s a shame that this chippy has gone down hill as it used to be one of the best around. I couldn’t even eat the burger it was so dry - the dog didn’t even want it!

We've been coming here since previous owner Kos was here. They do battered chips and plain chips plus array of other food.

Annoying that to have food delivered you have to go through Uber Eats who charge a lot more for the food, then there’s delivery and service charge! Order came to £17 more than it would’ve done if we collected (which we would, but it’s for a few of us so chances are it’d be cold by the time we got it home). So - ordered with Stourbridge Chippy instead. Sorry Norton, out of favour now.

Food is quite good. Service is poor. On Friday evening I put in an online order at 5:30, for pickup at 6:00. At 6:30 I was still waiting for my food (and other people were in the same situation). Meanwhile, I had watched a number of people arrive after me, wait in the regular line, order, and receive their food before I received mine (even though I had ordered first). When I attempted to politely let the owner know that he had a problem with his online ordering and it was going to cost him customers I was blown off. Apparently the owner doesn't have time for paying customers. I'll take my business elsewhere.

I have visited here several times and the food is excellent. I have visited 3 or 4 times since they have reopened after the pandemic. One of the safety procedures that they had put in place was to encourage people to use their app. The app works well and is easy to make orders but it does have some flaws. Firstly, there is a countdown timer that is supposed to tell you when the meal is ready to collect. In my experience this is never accurate and the timer is not updated to show the actual time. Also the staff are not using the app properly. When you order you are taken to a page that is supposed to be updated when the meal is ready to collect. The staff are not updating this when the meal is ready and are instead shouting out the names of customers. This is unprofessional and makes the app useless.

I got there and ordered just that. It came to £8 so not cheap... I was then sent outside in the drizzle (fair enough with social rules ATM) so 15 mins go by... And I'm called in to be given a small box, I asked if that was a LRG and they confirmed it was... I left the shop opened the box to find a small portion of chips and a small cod! The cod was also a very dark brown usually meaning the oil is dirty and should of been changed which made the fish too crunchie Overall I used to be a customer of there and I would recommend them... Not any more

Two visits, collecting order during lockdown. Standards have slipped. First order was inedible old and cold fish and chips, and small portions. 2nd visit the chips were better but ordered and paid for cod and medium chips £8.00 per portion, got mini cod and a few chips. We really want to support our local shops, especially at these difficult times but we are not going to be ripped off.

Awful meal. Steamed fish was cold, hard and wet. It came wrapped in soggy paper which i spent several minutes trying to pick off. The chips were also cold and hard and i suspect they may have been last nights chips slightly warmed up. Overall a cold tasteless stale meal.

Two 80 year old pensioners who I am careing for wanted fish and chips from this fish bar because they liked them. Upon my arrival I was informed it was click and collect, I informed them this was not possible so they sent me away with a phone number to call and order to which I did only for the phone to repeatedly ring out. Why did they send me away instead of being honest and telling me it was not possible, shame on you. Instead I went to the chip shop by Mary Stephens park, they took their order and their money and the pensioners thoroughly enjoyed their fish and chips and proclaimed they were far superior to the Norton fish bar, needless to say there's three customers they have lost and I hope a lot more after reading of this nasty rude and shameful experience!

Recently moved back here. This chippy serves the tastiest, crispiest and chunkiest chip shop chips I’ve ever had. I love that they serve a battered lemon sole. And their side of peas are my favourite and healthy!

We have been going to Nortons chip shop for 16 yrs. Fantastic service, friendly staff the food is delicious loads of variety to choose from.

- Missing Diet coke from order- Missing CapriSun from oder- Missing Mixed chips from order (only came normal)- Ordered childrens chicken strips (only 1 came.... Very misleading as it has an "s" on menu so you expect more than 1)- Chips were cold- Delivery was quite late but due to current situation i understand why.Will not return when there are many other chip shops which provide a better and cheaper quality of food.

Usually when you order a kebab you get so much meat and salad it just never seems to go down!..so I thought is try a wrap rather than a pitta bread..big mistake..he only put enuf meat in to just fill it.i think it was about 4.70...not good..and the chips..never trust a chippy that serves in a box..you don't get many I can tell you..however..the chips are the nicest I've ever tasted that's why I've given 2 stars..but I can't give anymore because I think the portion sizes and value were shocking

Fantastic chip shop, highly recommended. Lovely batter on the fish, battered chips or normal and great kebabs. All the employees are really friendly too. One of the best in the area in my opinion.

Have been going to Norton Fisheries for a long long time now, it's the best fish and chip shop around, there's a varied choice, heathy choices, the Staff are ALL well trained and courteous,, we love our fish and chips

Was our chippy of choice when we did have the odd take away- have reviewed here before and it was good then. However things have changed - prices gone up ,portion sizes down ( we are not greedy but not sure 15-20 chips constitutes a small portion tbh), food not particularly cooked well recently either. Gave it another chance tonight and it confirmed things for us. Chicken meat tonight was bitty and tough. They have also taken to putting food in boxes which may look nice and be “current” (perhaps trying to keep up with another local (poor) place) but is it really necessary? Seems pretty wasteful doing it that way tbh. Will be giving it a miss from now on I’m afraid.
