Popped in last night for a Friday nite supper long queues and the wait etc finally got served only live 3 minutes (by car) away got home chips were cold fish soggy..! Fecking place sucks.!

Not sure if I'd I caught the after lunch and before the tea time service 2.00pm went into now Mary's same lovely staff but omg shocking food chicken and donner meat cold greasy chips cold and more bits than chips fish average all luke warm staff more interested in the till don't think will be going there again

Superb food, bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Went today for a lunch as heard changed handed so was expecting same standard as norton fisheries on the Broadway a really good chippy, as I think they have taken this over, so disappointing the chips were cold as was the curry sauce, and tasted quite strange, on the plus side the sausage was delicious and hot, some work needed, not a cheap meal maybe I will pop over to the white horse next time

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon for fish bites and got food poisoning . The fish tasted off.

Food good most of the time. Unfortunately because it's so busy the staff were very busy sorting out the deliveries and took longer to serve people in the shop.

This used to be a really good fish & chip shop. Now it’s over priced, thinner fish portions, chips full of scraps. Mushy peas really runny. Won’t be frequenting again.

We were looking for a quick convenient fish and chips so pulled into the spacious carpark. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was good and nicely packaged.

We often have fish and chips from here, but last night's were AMAZING! We all commented on how good they were. The service is always great - professional and efficient too.

Saturday 16th collected 5.15, Had a large portion of the worst chips ever, threw more than 1/2 away, black bits, burnt crunchy chips- left over from lunch. Utter waste of £4.40 Photo below!

Disappointed. This chip shop used to be really good. Now it’s over priced and smaller portions. Fish is a lot thinner and too many scraps with the chips. Won’t be going back.

Great fish and chips have been going for over 10 yrs won loads of awards I won't eat anywhere else locally. Only 1 thing I'd change it needs a make over other than that just great.

Popped in for tea a couple of days ago, 1 person in front and 1 waiting, all of us being ignored, not even so much as a “sorry guys, we’ll be with you shortly” concentration was on the orders via online. Portion sizes being made up were ridiculous…….. can’t justify the it. Waiting and waiting and waiting, while feeling more and more sick from the absolutely terrible smell of old oil, was a truly stomach churning experience. With the thought of paying through the nose for really over expensive meal after this experience I walked out. Fish and chip rip off

Paid for fish bite and chips. Got chips and a potato scollop No fish to be seen. Chips from the bottom of the fryer. Portion size not value for money. Will go Elsewhere.

45 mins to closing… oh can cook a large cod for you but can’t cook scollops… wats all that about … disgusting attitude.will not ever ……. Return. Terrible. And not the first time either 🤬

We were most disappointed, the order was completely wrong, we paid for several items and none of them were received. There was bone in the lamb kebab x 3, quality awful! Paid for mixed kebab, tinned roe, southern fried potatoes, none of these were received, sauces all wrong on 2 kebabs…so disappointing, and worse than this, I’ve emailed Merchants 3 times in the last week and I’ve heard nothing. If this is how they treat their long standing customers, then they must want to go out of business!

Good gf fish and chips however appalling customer service. Waited 35 mins just for two portions of chips and sauce tonight. Queue not that long but staff too busy doing Uber/deliveroo orders to acknowledge customers in the shop. Stood for several minutes even when I reached the front of the queue before anyone acknowledged me. Only realised when I left that there’s a 30 min limit on parking (which I didn’t look at as who expects to be a long time for fish and chips) so will now possibly get a parking fine.

It's disappointing tonight as fish was poor quality and one mouthful,rest batter. Got curry sauce but ordered mushy peas. Usually so much better!!

Total letdown, Don't ya think it's expensive enough, at least teach your new staff better, 1star, I won't go there again , same as Norton fisheries, terrible for the silly rip-off prices, just teach the new staff better, the boy had no clue, my kebab was rubbish, he didn't listen to what I said at all, resulting in a mushy tasteless meal, wrapped like a 3 year old had done it, fact,

Be warned!!! Approximately 2 weeks after visiting the chip shop I was serviced with a parking fine for overstaying the 30 minute max stay. What is frustrating is that Euro Parking Services have clocked my vehicle on two separate visits and not one sole visit as they state, as I had to go to merchants an hour later which they have stated was for one sole visit. Be very careful. So all in all my fish and chips for 3 people cost £130.

Had a large cod and chips and a normal size fish and chips . Normal size was average fish , large fish was atrocious ! Extremely dried out throughout, and mostly batter . Only fit for the bin . Will not return . Do not expect food like this to be served, not cheap either . Wasted money .

Usual haunt for fish & chips only one a fortnight etc safly the large cod is now gone up again to £8.50 a 50p rise waiting time is a problem due to feckin Uber orders get priority so on busy nights your waiting time is roughly 20 mins just wonder low ling before cod hits a tenner...!

This fish and chip shop used to be one of the best in the area however its crown has slipped badly in the past 12 months or so. The quality of food is patchy and overpriced but worse still is the unforgiveable rudeness of the staff - regularly ignoring people waiting patiently to be served. It's not unusual to be waiting at the front of the queue and have no acknowledgement for a few minutes. It's such a shame as it was the 'go-to' fish and chips shop in Stourbridge at one time. Overall experience depressing - will never go back

At Merchants you are definitely going to get a very good meal - guaranteed! They are multiple award winners in their category. I have been using this place for many years, even from their first opening & I've never had anything to complain about, with the food & they keep the place spotlessly clean.

Very good products you can tell Absolutely horrible service as a customer or as a Deliveroo rider I always get there on time but they always make me wait 15 mins absolutely horrible attitude it’s like they don’t care from now on I’m going somewhere else! And if ur a Deliveroo driver/rider be prepared to wait and nobody giving u any inclination on when your food order will be ready!

When you go in there always say hello how may we help,smiles they let you decide. Then you order and pay, with a card or cash. And catch up o what's been going on around.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips, really light & crisp batter

This used the be the best fish and chip shop for miles around. Just picked some up this evening after a long gap since calling in, the folk were serving were not the usual crowd, wondering if it's changed hands. The chips were ok but the fish, have never ever had such dry terrible fish. We had haddock, freshly cooked but it was truly awful. We'll have to find somewhere else, won't be back here again.

Staff were very nice and fun. Chips were good but can get only get orange chips Monday to Wed which is sad. The fish was right, not very crispy though.

Appalling customer service. Ordered Haddock on arrival. After 10-15 minutes enquired where the fish was. Assured the Haddock was a thicker bigger fish (?) and takes longer to cook. After a further enquiry the server said my order would be chased. It then appears it had not yet been cooked. So the longer cooking time was a false call. The food itself was indifferent. I was offered a complimentary drink but my request for a partial refund was ignored.

Yet again I have walked to to this establishment to be told “sorry we’re closed” as it’s “too hot, too quiet, too this, too that”! If you have opening times please stick to them. I’ve been a regular customer for some years but your professionalism and courtesy seem to be wearing thin on me!!!

It was awfull through and though asked for small chips on there own wiv mushy peas and a pitta salad when I got home the chips were under done and there was no pitta salad it was chips with salad and chips very bad on their behalf NOT GOIN THERE AGAIN they can't even get the orders right and it's not the 1st time eighther 🤢🤢☹️☹️

Best fish & chips in the Midlands and with the app you can order online and turn up and collect at front of line well worth it on busy days. Although some customers get cross and think your cutting the line be helpful to have a designated collection point.

Always used this chippy but what on earth has happened to the curry sauce?

Great food, terrible service. The food is always cooked to perfection & absolutely delicious, the best Fish & Chips around. However, the blonde scrawny server, is sloppy & lets the food down. She didn't ask me if I wanted salt & vinegar & poured salt all over my food, when I can't eat salt. She said, well you'll have to wait 6 minutes! (So the alternative was to eat the salty food). She then left my curry sauce on the side getting cold while I waited & went to put in the bag when she'd done my food. I had to tell her to put me a fresh one up. She did so, slopping it all over the side, wrapping it up & putting it in the bag upside down! 🙄 As I turned it the right way up, she said its OK, the lid is on! I ordered 3 lots of chicken nuggets for 3 kids, she piled all of the nuggets into one box!! She's very sloppy.

We tried merchants last week, unfortunately not the best experience - the girl behind the counter was rude and did nothing but bang boxes around and clearly didn't want to be there which is fine not the best customer service but we all have bad days and the food was ok - we decided to try again tonight and the service was better but the food was ridiculous... it wont let me upload a photo but the large fish and chips i ordered was so small i may aswell of ordered a mini fish and saved myself a fiver, certainly wont bother again.

Had fish and chips today fish was all batter hardly any fish chips were hard and dry worst we have had in long time one of the girls behind the counter so loud and never stopped talking couldn't get out quickly enough never go back again and would never recommend to anyone waste of money

Ystdy aftnn we visited 'The Plough' by Mary Stevens Park. We ordered 7 Meals from Merchants, (of which I paid for) a Birthday Meal. For myself I ordered a large fish only, (sharing chips with my Daughter) when we picked order up at 4.10pm and returned to venue my fish was smaller than my Grandsons Standard fish. I should have taken a photo or taken it back, but alas I didn't. It seems order's are rushed out as quickly as possible to make a fast buck for the owners....Not impressed..!

Small portions over and priced...when it was first took over it was alway expensive but the quality was there! This is no longer the case.not enough price options on rotisserie meat meals...even the chips are too expensive,yes chips...please does anyone else know of a chip shop anywhere else that does a medium chips...its small regular or large...its mini fish not a fish bite which are so small that they sometimes give you two but you don't even want two because they are over cooked and dry because cut too thin...like there sliver of tinned roe...another thing,yes in this day and age for some reason people phone ahead for collection that's fine if you want to expand your business and you do deliveries however they do not, I see this as just a queue jumping idea where normal customers have to wait even longer because all of the staff are prioritising the special customer's,mostly they just shouting a random name who isn't even there whilst all the normal people just look at each other think are you going to serve us or not...

Such a sad decline of what was a great chippy. Expensive, small portions, awful service and poor quality food. I was once a regular, never again......must have been taken over as the decline is severe

It saddens me to write this as Ive often rated this chip-shop highly for its quality of food and recommended it to many people in the past. We had 3 cod and chips specials this evening, They were far from special, Infant I’d say Very poor, After throwing away lots of dark smelly cod, all we were left with was small pieces of lukewarm, slightly rubbery fish along side lukewarm chips, this has to be the worst we’ve had from anywhere. I really do hope the quality and standard of the food returns, until then, unfortunately we won’t be.

I ordered glutenfree mushrooms got home ate one and knew straight away they were normal battered mushrooms. Really knocked me about. Will not ever return, totally unsatisfactory for a ceoliac.

Friday night is chippy night sadly won't be going again got home order was wrong and chips stone cold staff seem to ve more set up for getting Uber orders right.

Weird queue system but food can be good if they get your order right, worth checking before driving home.

Awful quality portions tiny and totally overpriced don’t make the same mistake I have always though it would be good because it looks busy but don’t be fooled people I was in the shop with also complained about waiting times and orders also kept coming back wrong in the 25 minute time I was in on my wait. 4 orders can back incorrect or incomplete. Also as I overstayed to car parking due to incompetent staff now has to pay for parking or would of been fined for parking. Disgusted overall is an understatement. Worst thing is I live very close to the Halesowen one and now won’t be making the mistake of trying this shame really.

I brought three meals from Merchants today, they were packed in a small brown paper bag, when I got outside the brown bag fell apart, I managed to catch two of the meals third bag fell on the floor, I went back into the shop, the woman apologised for how badly she had packed the food, she re did my order while still saying sorry, then charged me again! Customer service is terrible, I will never use this shop again.

We all had a fabulous fish and chip meal from Halesowen branch and it really is as good as the Bewdley branch! Pricy but worth it for the crispy, light batter!!!

Don't usually like to leave negative review. The fish and chips we have just collected were put in the bin. Chips black and green, the fish was OK but overall very disappointed.

I had fish and chips from Merchants Norton today. It was the worst I have ever had in my life. The fish smelled aweful ....all was cold....very small portions.....dreadful The chef has changed ..... Never again

I have spend £47 pound for chipy night for family but all ruined because chips was so old not fresh at all, look like from yesterday l couldn't eat , same plastic chewing in mouth it was disgusting

Unfortunately, despite initially bringing in a useful online ordering system, Merchants in Stourbridge have been unable to retain a good customer service. The website is buggy (numerous sign-in timeouts across multiple devices). Eventually online orders go through but, despite giving the shop an acceptable period of time before collection, the order had not been started and the fish had only just come out of the freezer. This on a quieter Tuesday evening. Prices on Deliveroo are inflated so much as to be unaffordable for many. Please try harder Merchants.

We have used Merchants for a long time, in Stourbridge and Bewdley, food is always second to none but the new parking restrictions at Stourbridge is a massive negative, if you don't pre order and just turn up your very likely to get a parking fine as they are only allowing 30 minutes, we feel it should be at least 1hr.

The food was very good and the portion size was massive. I was surprised that the vegetarian burger wasn't too bad either, as they sometimes tend to be in those places. However, be prepared to queue for a while, especially on the weekend.

We had large cod & chips delivered (using Deliveroo) Very fresh, hot & good portion of fish & chips. This has been the best delivered fish & chips , so will definitely be ordering again from Merchants. Very tasty food. Quick delivery.

Possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten. Simply put it was all just awful. Batter was wet, soggy and pale. Chips were greasy and stuck together in a big stodgy lump. They forgot the mushy peas from our order, despite us paying for...

Great food. Chips are better than anywhere around, fish is always top quality and way bigger than you get elsewhere. Kebabs are far better than any other chip shop I've been to, salad is always fresh and the kebab meat is better quality and not greasy like most places. Portion sizes in general are very good.

Ok tasting fish and chips, BUT I once found a long brown hair in my fish box that was not supposed to be there. Also, they have now started to charge for parking and if you stay beyond a certain amount of time, you will get charged. Needless to say I no longer go here.

Food is excellent as always. Dropped a star though as it's extremely confusing what to do while queuing, there are no obvious signs or barriers. Had to find out from another customer.

We had fish and chips yesterday. It was nice however whilst collecting I witness a member of staff with bare hands picking up a fish and throw it back into the hot container. She also picked up a few batter crumbs and eat it. It was unhygienic! Last night my husband had diarahea after having the meal. He also mention it was greasy. I found the curry sauce to be a bit weird like tangy. Don't think I would be coming back anytime soon.

Staff go out of their wáy to give you what you want. They cooked 2 fresh fish for mé just before they closed. It had been a hot day and they were ready to go home but they went out if their way to fulfil my order. Brilliant!
