I've been raving about this place. Wasn't intending to come here. It was just happenstance and now I'm dying to go back. The warm welcome, the smiling,friendly waiter, the interior and best of all, THE FOOD! Oh my God! We both had the chicken chorizo and it was by far the most enjoyable meal I've bought in such a long time. Every aspect of the meal was delicious: the home made coleslaw;the home made relish;the lettuce was so fresh; the sweet potatoe fries; the sour cream; the sweet chilli jam;the chicken and chorizo and it all came together in a glorious frenzy to tingle and delight your taste buds. A masterpiece. Okay, okay, but near enough. I nearly wept. I had the cherry bakewell blondie for dessert. I didn't think you could possibly get two equally fantastic courses but you can at this place! Another exquisite treat which, again, was homemade with such care and expertise. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

I came here with my family to celebrate my birthday. There were 17 of us (including 3 children), and I'd arranged to have the function room. There was no extra charge for the use of the room, and we didn't need to pay a deposit. The room was huge, and the staff made sure we had music on. We had pre ordered our meals, we had 4 vegans and a gluten-free, but there were a couple of options on the menu for them. As it was a Sunday, the menu was slightly more limited, but everyone could find something they wanted on the menu. The portions were huge and very good value for money. We didn't have dessert as one of the family had made me a cake, and the staff very kindly provided us with plates, forks and extra serviettes so we could slice it up. They also wrapped the rest of the cake in foil for me to take home. All the staff were lovely and attentive and nothing was too much effort. It wasn't an issue for our party, but the function room is upstairs and as the pub is an old building, there is no lift. I'd definitely recommend coming here for a meal and we will come back again.

Booked in for the Tapas special and wow the food was amazing, the service as always was perfect and the 2 free cocktails as part of the offer were delicious. Would 100% recommend. Thanks Leighton

Freindly welcoming pub, food was OK reasonably priced. I had vegan beetroot burger and fries. All OK, but burger was very small. My cousin had the fish n chips the fish looked as if it was cut in half. Overall, OK food but bigger portions would justify the price. The decor is ok, the toilets were clean and bright.

Great freshly made food and great price too! Served by our lovely Owen who was very attentive and friendly too. We will be back again. I had salmon and it was perfectly cooked and cherry Bakewell with custard highly recommended. Thank you x

Lovely bar staff on the whole, we visited for food, food was amazing but service of the food let the place down, our waitress was rude, loud and unprofessional in my opinion, her name began with a P, when we asked her questions or asked for anything during the time there, she rolled her eyes at us like it was an inconvenience. Would of been 5 stars if the waitress was better too us on the day. We will return and hope for a better experience next time.

I have many fond memories of the Norton Arms from the past 35 odd years when visiting family in Runcorn. Had booked a table for dinner on Monday evening and it did not disappoint food was lovely and the service was outstanding - wish I had asked the barmaid and waitresses their names, as they are a credit to the Norton Arms. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to family and friends.

Booked for Sunday lunch but needed to change the time on the day as the theatre finished much earlier than anticipated. Called the pub & it wasn’t a problem, they could fit us in. We ordered 2 adults roasts & a child’s, 3 puddings also. Honestly, one of the best roast dinners I’ve had, absolutely 10/10 & I very rarely write reviews. Top quality food & top quality service from the staff. We don’t live local but will definitely be back!

The food in here is actually amazing. I can’t recommend it enough. The staff, atmosphere and pub itself is fantastic. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a nice meal in a relaxed environment. Will definitely be back!

Not been here for years and tried yesterday for Sunday lunch when our usual favourites were booked up. Pleasantly surprised how great it was, pub clean and warm, staff super friendly and the food was great. We had one turkey and one shoulder of lamb roast, good quality big portions and extra gravy brought without asking. Enjoyed it so much we both had a brownie desert and again these were lovely. Will definitely be back soon.

Eat a meal with my partner. The food I can't not fault the young stuff there do the best but the landlady is highly obnoxious and would not know good social skills if the handbook slapped her in the face! Will avoid from now in when possible

Took the family for the Octoberfest event today. Great band, great food and great selection of beer. This was a lovely venue. Had a lot of fun. Highly recommend a visit to anyone!

Great food - we really enjoyed the beetroot and goats cheese salad and a delicious steak basket meal under the shade of a parasol this afternoon with a lovely glass of crisp, chilled wine. Kindly staff. Lovely beer garden. Great choice of wines as well as beers.

Food here has always been really good, friendly accommodating staff who are always extremely attentive. Ladies toilets always spotless with lovely liquid soap and hand cream. Well done Norton Arms, a big part of the local community.

Honestly cannot believe this place is still going. The most child unfriendly place with sour staff! Food absolutely awful and toilets that stink. Steak tough as old boots and an owner who's miserable as sin. If you want to pay an absolute fortune for a drink, sit on hard grubby chairs and eat cheap meat then this is your place! Don't bother

Had a table booked for the euros final for them to phone less than 24 hours before to cancel the table as apparently "they hadn't realised how many bookings there was" appalling customer service. We have visited a few times but they were only bothered about customers who attended for the semi final. Absoultely shocking.

Visited today for a lunch catch up with a friend and living locally wanted to support an independent local business. Not had dined here in well over a year, menu has been consolidated which is a great thing as means the pub can focus on delivering great food. Certainly did not disappoint, i opted for the rump steak ciabatta sandwich with skinny fries really nice meal and well priced at less than £10 on par with Wetherspoon prices but fantastic quality foodStaff friendly and attentive and Covid precautions were spot on Dining partner really enjoyed their soup of the day and liked the venue

26th. All nicely packaged and boxed, a 3 course Italian for a romantic celebration meal in these corona-troubled times. Bruscetta with lovely piquant topping, Chicken Cacciatori, Chocolate/amaretto tart. Nice red gingham tablecloth and napkins to set your trattoria scene. Thought this might be naff but it was cool.Pick up - perfect. Food - beautiful. If I'd been served this in the beautiful back streets of Sorrento I'd have been very happy indeed.Hearty portions too. We needed a time-out before that beautiful tart with ice cream. Very, very good.

Tried to book the Sunday roast last week but we were too late as they'd sold out. Booked earlier this week! Both the roast beef and belly pork we had were excellent, and the cauliflower cheese side was lovely. Totally recommended.

First time we have had food from The Norton Arms and we were not disappointed. I am lactose intolerant and so I called to check the allergens on some of the meals. Claire was lovely and very helpful. My husband and I really enjoyed our meals. We will be back... thank you.

i have written several reviews of this pub over the years and they never cease to amaze me, i took my parents here for their 65th wedding anniversary and we were made to feel very welcome and the food was fantastic, a nice welcoming environment and they are managing social distancing very well with hand gel available as soon as you enter the pub, 10 out of 10, i would rather eat here than a lot of fancy restuarants as their customer service is amazing

We ate on a Tuesday evening. The food was delicious, everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was great, The staff were very friendly and attentive. A really enjoyable evening out

The norton is a real mixed bag, sadly it seams as if its if your "face fits" rather than a warm welcome for all and the rules seam to change at free will with no given reason. I have never been treated with the same contempt as some of the staff the feel fit to to. When we did manage to eat the food was good so a thumbs up to the kitchen staff. A real real shame as I would like to support local businesses especially at this time but this is one to definitely give miss

We turned up just before 8pm the other night and very friendly and helpful staff let us order food despite stopping serving at 8pm. They had a quiz on which we didn’t join but we all enjoyed our food and drinks. I wish I had this local on my doorstep :))

Visited this pub today for lunch. There is a good variety of food on offer at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and offer good service.

Greeted with a warm smile by the young waitress on duty, we found a table, ordered our drinks, then shortly afterwards, ordered our meals.As usual our meal arrived and were hot, well presented and tasted very nice. They are always good size portions, leaving no room for desert.This is a nice quiet setting mid week during the day. We always know we will receive good food and great service with a smile.

Abysmal food! I've never seen conjealed rice the way it was served to me. And this was after it was served to us a second time after being sent back the first time for being cold/lukewarm. I suspect that the rice had been re-heated and that is why it was clumped together. The only redeeming feature of this place is that it serves real ale on very good form (for that it gets an extra two stars - better off just going for a pint there!). We were given a refund, so left fiscally intact! Please improve, Runcorn doesn't have many decent places to eat or drink.

Regular family meal out now. Lovely food & friendly service. Quiet side of the bar & Great atmosphere in family side. Great outdoor area for summer too. Highly recommend!

We had a family meeting here yesterday. Ten of us including 3 babies in high chairs. The service was first class and the staff could not have been more accommodating and family friendly! The food was first class especially the slow cooked rib which was the best I have ever had!

We had a steak night here , 12 of us ate and had steaks cooked from rare to extra well done . Every one was extremely happy with their meal and the service was superb .The beer is a bit more expensive than other pubs but worth paying it to be in a very nice pub with a lovely friendly atmosphere.

Good menu, delicious rib of beef on the bone, sirloin steak cooked perfect, the rest of the main meals were excellent, loads of veg, proper gravy. Desserts were, by comparison, quite average but overall still worthy of 4 stars

Great pub but the only thing that lets it down are the prices of drinks. Deep pockets if your there for the night. Recommend for the food though that’s why it’s just a 4 star.

This pub serves nice food from a varied menu, at a reasonable price. Nice cosy atmosphere, a real local with the benefit of good food ,entertainment most weeks and a pleasant outdoor area on sunny days.

When we arrived they were having their beer delivered so access was tight, but we managed to get in.

Just got back from a fabulous afternoon tea at the Norton Arms. Claire and her staff where lovely and very attentive,and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and plenty of it. The home made scones where delicious. The room was beautifully decorated with bunting and fresh flowers and a lovely vintage tea set. I would definitely recommend going here. We always come to the Norton for our meals out as we’ve never ever had a bad meal here. Just been to celebrate my boyfriends birthday, I had pie and mash (gorgeous pie) he had rib of beef with cheese mash and roasted veg - he said it was unbelievable! Can’t fault the food or the staff at all. If your looking for somewhere to go for beautiful home cooked food, the norton is the place to go!

Just been here for sunday lunch. Pub was packed due to big football match. Ordered 2 roast dinners which took 45 mins to arrive (no mention of this long wait when ordering).

My wife and I took my mum for lunch. After finding a table, selecting our food we ordered our meals and some drinks.

Countryside style pub with burgers that would rival an American diner, clean and tidy with pleasant staff. My girlfriend and I had a starter each and 2 different variations of the beef burgers, all portions were good sizes leaving us both with a food coma!!

Ate here earlier in the week and it was delicious so we decided to go back today. We were not disappointed. Although we had to wait a while for our lunch when it arrived it was worth the wait. We had a traditional Sunday roast. Freshly cooked, the slices of beef were thick and juicy, the roast potatoes were like your mum does, the veg was fresh and we could have as much gravy as we wanted. We had a vegetarian dish also which was nice. The atmosphere and service is still as good as it always has been. Highly recommended

We have just moved in the area this is our new local. We can see it from our house so handy enough. Food not bad only sometimes we have had an issue like gravy tasting of washing up liquid but was changed to beef gravy and much better. Roasts aren't very nice but my husband loves yorkie wraps and he enjoyed his mixed grill. Pie is nice and kids meals are reasonably sized. Have to spend over £10 to pay by card or set a tab (they keep card in a glass behind bar) im not keen on this. Don't understand why they can't cancel a penny transaction and print a receipt of that way. Staff ok. Nice place to have a drink

A lovely pub with good selection of wine but don’t sit at the table next to the gents because the stench that comes out every time the door is opened is disgusting.

Popped in for a Saturday lunchtime football match and a post-gym feast. The result of the football didn't disappoint and more importantly for the purpose of this review the excellent plate of food didn't either! The BBQ Burnt Ends Burger was superb. Incredible mixture of flavours and a thoroughly filling portion! I do warn that it creates quite a mess (but the best burgers often do!), and that was without pouring the beef dripping gravy over it too... Instead I used the gravy for dipping my gourmet chips in. I requested these in place of the seasoned fries and I'm delighted that I did. They were HUGE chips and the best I've ever experienced in a pub. To add to this the service from the waitresses was fantastic and I was left wanting for nothing. I'll definitely be back for another fill of this heaven on a plate!

Working nearby and the Norton has bren my goto for evening meals. Perfect steaks a great meals every time. Good beer amazing staff too. Gunna miss the place

this pub never ceases to amaze me, took my mother here for sunday dinner and they actually changed the way an item was prepared and cooked after my mother made a request, they couldnt do enough and the Manager came over to chat and ensure we where happy with the food and service, thank you "Claire".

Randomly came here for an English breakfast at lunch time - we were glad they didn’t have it, we had a mixed grill which was fresh, tasty, and left us bulging. This will be our new place to eat! Suitable for families.

Was disappointed to see the menu had changed, some of the choices we picked were not available...however what we did have was lovely, wasn't impressed with the wait, it was only a Wednesday lunchtime and no one else was in!!

El menú aquí es enorme, insinuando que todo está congelado. Asada era asqueroso, patatas asadas congeladas + puré seco? Pescar en el pescado y las patatas fritas era seco. Nachos nos sirven sin crema agria y jalapeños y cuando pregunté a la camarera dijo "a veces la cocina no saben que no tienen cosas "así pagamos 7 libras. 29 Para algunos con salsa picante de doritos y queso.

La comida es bastante buena, de hecho. Patatas fritas macizos. Pieza de carne y hacer agradable la forma en que pedimos. . No como otros sitios cerveza crucificado también es buena.

Called in here with my two sons, after seeing how clean and cosy the place was we decided too have something to eat, we where not disappointed as the meals where very good i had chicken and choriso excellent. The wait wasn't to long. The also do guest beers. The toilets were also clean. Will be back.

Arrived at the pub about 6.30 when It was quite quiet. It filled up quickly as there was a Liverpool football match on the four TVs in the pub. Food is good pubgrub, but we were caught out when they stopped taking orders for food at 8.00

Six of us visited last night for Birthday Celebration lovely pub in lovely setting. Very old world pub with beams and stone floor. We all ordered different things and everything on the menu was available although there were a few people in we didn't have to wait too long and the Staff were very attentive. The food came and each dish was presented excellently.I had Lasagne, Garlic Bread and a Side Salad served with a lovely dressing it was one of the nicest Lasagne's I have had. My Husband had the Steak Burger served with Chips and and Coleslaw which he said was lovely. My Friend had Gammon, 2 Fried Eggs, Chips and Peas which she couldn't finish cause it was so big her Husband had Liver, Onions & Bacon off the specials board served with Chips and a large portion of Seasonal Veg. My Son had Chicken Tikka Masala served with Pilau Rice, Poppadom, Naan Bread and a portion of Mango Chutney and his Fiancee had Hunters Chicken, Chips and Peas. None of us could fault any of our meals they were all tasty, hot and massive portions and great value. We will definitely be visiting again and would recommend it.

We had come here just once before in summer, and had a pint outside, watching the world go by. On that occasion we said we'd like to try the food. Well four months later, we finally made it back! This is a lovely, unaffected, old fashioned country pub, in a nice corner of Runcorn, close to the castle. You could park here and have a little walk up there before returning for a little refreshment. We arrived at 12 o'clock, the opening time for lunch, and ordered the rump steak and a cod goujons sandwiches, (both on baguettes although there is a choice of breads). Incidentally there's a specific lunch menu with a special offer on two or three courses, but this was off the main menu. There's a kids menu if you can't sneak off without them. My wife had the rump baguette (cooked medium) and said it was the nicest she's ever had. It came with fried onions and a delicious side salad. I opted for tartare sauce with my cod goujons but other options included garlic mayo or ketchup. Again, it came with the side salad with a lovely honey and mustard dressing. The cod was piping hot, fluffy and light. We had a pot of tea each and the bill came to just over £16. A good price and good service too, with nice staff. I would have taken photos but we were too hungry to wait and just tucked in!What a nice place, will definitely go back.

Found this place by accident and so glad we did. Lovely rustic bar with great food and staff. Went at lunchtime where they had a food offer on - 2 courses for £7.95. You would think the portions would be smaller at that price, how wrong I was. Nachos to start followed by sausage and mash with veg and gravy and my partner had the ham egg and chips. The food was stunning and delicious. Will be going again when I'm passing that way!!

Our party of 5 went to the Norton today for Sunday lunch and were very disappointed, especially at a price of £9.45. The beef was so chewy in the end I gave up and left it. The mash was instant and some of the veg was hard. I had really been looking forward to it but would not go again and the place could do with a good clean as well. Loads of dust on some of the wooden frames. Last week our family tried the Barley Mow in Runcorn old town and the lunch was plentiful, A good price and very tasty. Shame.

Read reviews and popped in for lunch whilst travelling south . Food was lovely staff weren't !!! Not much more to say except probably wouldn't return which is a shame as the food was good and the 2 course lunch was great value !
