Cookhouse Pub & Carvery in Halton

Wow! Wow! Wow! We had the best experience we’ve had in a long time with such a large party of people. 12 of us came for New Year’s Day lunch and Millie was absolutely amazing. She’s made sure we had everything we needed down to the final touches. Her attention to detail meant we will 100% be returning very soon. Everyone’s food came out together and was hot, tasty and exactly what we asked for (we have some very fussy eaters). We couldn’t have asked for more! Thank you so much Millie! You are a credit to this pub that’s for sure!

Christmas Day food excellent as usual staff very attentive would highly recommend and a voucher for January was a lovely touch

Attended this place recently without booking and it was busy. We was told 30min wait but decided to wait. We have been here before plenty of times with no issues mind! Anyway ordered food via the QR code on the table. App said 23min wait. Food ordered 29mins past the hour. Waited until after 7 for Starters that looked awful and for the price, the quantity was ridiculous. After that we waited until 30mins past for the mains, 1 hour by this time. Went to see where the food was and was told 5mins.. told the manager if not on the table in 5 then I wanted a refund. 6 - 7mins later.. still no food so went up to get a refund. Was refused as the food had been made and was just then being braught out. The staff apologised but it wrecked our night. I made a complaint via the app and asked for a partial refund but they called me back and despite being misadvised on timings they said no to a refund. The seating at this pub was minty and tatty. The table was sticky and not clean when we sat down. The atmosphere was as flat as a pancake. The price for food considering the quality of the starters was a complete rip off, not attending here ever again.

Had staff christmas meal for 10 at cookhouse widnes today. Table laid out beautiful very festive. Staff exceptional, very friendly and helpful. 2 course festive meal absolutely delicious! Thankyou for a lovely evening.

Had a lovely evening in the Cookhouse Widnes . Delicious food as always excellent customer service . The staff and the Manager Dylan are so friendly and so attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening my favourite place to go .

Beautiful pasta dish, we enjoyed our dishes, the red cabbage dish looked really tasty. Very clean, lively decor. Thank you.

Low standards of food quality. Staff rushing taking orders to then put bag on and run off home. Low food rating which explains quality of food. Would not suggest.

We pre-cooked a table for 10 and it was all ready for our arrival. The staff were kind and helpful and the food was served promptly, was piping hot and delicious. We had such a lovely time, we've decided to make this a monthly occurrence.

Bar staff a bit chaotic despite the pub not being particularly busy. Fish and chips were OK however the pub was that cold 🥶 we had to wear our coats during our meal, if the carvery range had been in use , I am sure the pub would have felt more welcoming . We won't be in a hurry to return we will use the Rainhill one in future. The place felt soul less to be honest

Came for out for tea with my daughter after an opening evening in Widnes, we ordered the chicken and chorizo hanging kebab and the childrens cheese burger and Oreo ice cream sundae.. my hanging kebabs was delicious and my daughter really enjoyed her dessert, the staff Sophie, Finn and Dillon the manger that was on shift where very friendly, talkative and helpful! Thanks again we will be back :-)

Lovely choices of vegetables on the carvery. Meat was cooked nicely and was given plenty on the plate. Sadly they did not have any vegan ice cream as advertised.

Beer was great didn't have food but it smelt absolutely fantastic

Started out really well, but it's taken a downhill slide in recent months. Food is well below par for the prices they are now charging. Had to reluctantly complain about the food quality on the last couple of visits. Other customers seem to be doing the same when you look around. Offer on currently for 20% off drinks, but the quality of the beers isn't great either! Needs a good shake up before the summer and get standards back up!!

We booked for a large group, staff were so helpful and offered us the function room with short notice. Everything went so smoothly considering there were lots of us, food came out fresh, on time and gorgeous! Not one person in our group had an issue. Really impressed with the service and would come back without hesitation. Thank you to everyone for ensuring our day went as well as it could have!

Just had a Sunday roast from the carvery. It was delicious. The gammon was so tasty and the turkey was surprisingly moist. The vegetables were all well cooked, and the meal was hot. The pub is very spacious with lots of room to manoeuvre prams or wheelchairs. I'll definitely be going back 😊.

Great food, lovely play area, spacious tables. Would be more ideal if men's toilets had a baby changing station.

Great food, great service, fantastic staff

The staff that were on whilst I was there were quite snotty, but not enough to hamper the evening. The food was brilliant and the app is easy enough to use too. Dog friendly and slightly expensive chain pub.

Food not very good.(4 out of 12 thought food was nice). Had to wait an hour for food. Not enough staff on. Ended up clearing the table ourselves.

Rude customer service, staff walking round smirking laughing at customers the cheek is unbelievable. Pub should not be open

1st visit for a long time at the weekend. Staff are very accommodating and friendly. Remembered our round better than some of us! Food was nice but portions were on the small side. Would order more sides next time!

Microwaved our food and brought same meal back out after telling them it was stone cold it was definitely the same food as we had put sauce on them. Manager wasn’t interested don’t waste your time or money

Was nice but all you can eat breakfast wasn't all you can eat.

We’ve attended this place a few times and thought me and my wife would bring the mother in law for food. It was a nose hill disaster! The place has dived downhill! The bread was frozen and a lady infront of me was touching every piece of bread to see which were not frozen …. She’s touched every piece and all were frozen! Not hygienic at all. By the time I’d asked the bar staff for actual bread my food had been on the table for 15 minutes. By the time the bread was toasted as it came back out frozen it was 22 minutes. My food was colder than the atmosphere here. We were not the only ones to complain. Also the breakfast is no longer all you can eat and I paid £9 for 2 rashes of bacon and 2 sausages…. Is this harrods? We ordered a coffee which didn’t come till we chased it. Overall it’s a 1/10. Venue wasn’t busy and we know why. Won’t be back here and certainly don’t want cold food/ awful food/ frozen bread which has been touched by every tom d and Harry

Freezing cold had to eat with coat on

Totally crammed as many people in as they could on Christmas Day. Very poor bar and waiter service for the number of people that needed serving. Packed together with no room to move between tables making it very difficult gor getting around. Service between courses was so slow and poor, having to wait over 1hour for desserts that we chased up three times with different staff members. We were also told when we asked for coffe to be served that they would ask, but the bar staff were overwhelmed with drink requests and might not be able to service us our coffee, which was included in the price. Food from the carvery was very good, but the two people in our group did not get their steaks till after we had all finished our main meals. Won't be going there again in a hurry as their usual standards we not even met half way, what a let down. Think about the quality of service Cookhouse and not just making a gready profit on the most important meal of the year for families.

I have now eaten here a number of times and enjoyed every meal. Service is always pleasant. Great value for money.

Jess was a wonderful host from the start, so attentive and so friendly - you’re amazing(Jess)! Christian was also very thoughtful with the food and super friendly! The manager Marius was really attentive and checked to see if everything was good with our visit. Overall - 10/10 would visit again for bottomless brunch xxx
