Came on a Friday evening with extended family in August and absolutely loved the food. Good portion sizes and so tasty. All highlights. Dog friendly too!

Service without a smile... We enjoyed a lovely meal with brilliant food and wine. Beautiful oysters from Essex, gorgeous arancini from Italy, wines from France and Argentina. However it would be really nice if the excellent service came with a pleasing smile. Not too much to ask for the young members of staff to be happy in their work. 🤗

Lovely restaurant with incredible food. Really nice atmosphere. The staff were great - not intrusive but there when we needed them and really friendly. I highly recommend the crab tacos! Delicious! And the chocolate torte! Not too expensive.

Cake and coffee, It was nice and homemade, but a little dry and frosting was very warm, a little off putting to be fair.

Genuinely had one of the BEST meals I've ever eaten here and I eat out A LOT. Had the lamb, was divine. Couldn't recommend more. Must visit if you're in the area, would return to Whitstable solely for this restaurant.

Popped in for a quick lunch without reading any reviews so wasn't sure what to expect. The eggs Benedict were fantastic - a slightly different take with rosti. The avocado on toast with poached eggs was really good too. All the ingredients were really fresh and tasty. Service was good and fast

Well-cooked meal with flair. All of the ingredients are “made from scratch”, nothing from cans or processed food, and you can truly taste the difference. Great start to our trip to Whitstable.

Lovely small restaurant towards the harbour end of Whitstable. Mixture of small and large plates, we had 2 small and a side dish for lunch. Beef tacos delicious, could have eaten more than 2! Mussels were a good size and accompanying foccacia very tasty. Quick and attentive service. Oh, and dog friendly too!

Fantastic food served here. If you would like to try something different than most of the restaurant offer, then No1 is a place for you! Decent portion, sensible price, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff! 👌

Lovely little restaurant that is dog friendly. Had breakfast here twice during our stay in Whitstable. Great full English and sausage sandwiches. Lovely granary toast with butter and jam! Good tea too!! Will definitely return and maybe next time check out the evening menu.

Great high street cafe with exceptional food and cake.

So I popped into this lovely little restaurant on a Friday evening,it happened to be steak night,advertised as a special,and it was definitely more than special...the food was absolutely amazing,so fresh cooked to my own preferences,sauces were to die for,would highly recommend this place and I shall be returning very soon!!

The food is not fresh, and generally isn’t great. Service is friendly but slow, our chips took over 45 minutes to arrive. Atmosphere is nice enough, but overall wouldn’t bother going here.

A weird evening! Food is some of the best we have had in whitstable. Shared 5 small plates between 2 of us. Lovely tacos and kebabs and the clam sauce is amazing! However, the two front of house staff seemed to not really know what they were doing except chatting and moaning about the kitchen staff. One of the cooks kept coming out and chatting to them over the counter quite loudly. Towards the end of our meal( still eating but it was only about 9pm) they started clearing all the tables and washing with bleach. It stank. I’d say it’s usually a case of bad food and great service but this was the total opposite. Highly recommend the small plates but not the actual restaurant. Could be so good.

Amazing little restaurant with superb home cooked food that will please everyone. Breakfast available for most of the day with brilliant small platters and meals all home cooked. everything that we have tried has just the right amount of flavour with perfect balance. Photos are of the days special and the lamb kebabs (small platter).

Great breakfast of eggs benedict and eggs floentine with a side of asparagus and buritto. Definitely be back for lunch sometime soon

Had breakfast here with a friend today, all lovely and fresh and tasty. Service attentive but not pushy and food arrived promptly enough for us. Would recommend and will return.

Went twice for breakfast/brunch. Great playlist, tasty food. A really good selection of kids food and three high chairs available. Staff are really friendly and helpful and prices are okay too.

The Full English Breakfast was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had!!..fantastic homemade baked beans, great hash-brown-cake-thing, quality bacon and sausage,…10/10!

Good ok, took some time and brought the started after the main. The girl serving and taking the orders had the worst attitude and willingness to serve. Honestly would never come back to this place.

We visited for the first time today. Friendly welcoming staff, great cosy atmosphere, and the food was amazing, plus reasonably priced.

Visited for Saturday night dinner. We had starters and mains which were all absolulety superb. The chefs clearly know what they are doing and how to prepare an excellent meal. Will definitely go back. Constructive comment would be that there was only 1 choice of dessert and a range of cakes. I am sure the cakes would be superb, but for us, too heavy after dinner. A choice of 3 desserts would make it perfect. Having said that, this is an excellent place if you like great food.

Went for a late lunch and shared moules (which came with home-made focaccia), prawns, crab tacos, potato cake and fries. Everything arrived really quickly, was beautifully presented, tasted amazing and was cooked perfectly. The chefs were efficient and calm and the service was good. Really enjoyed our visit and the cost was very reasonable. In addition to the above we had 2 large wines, 2 soft drinks, 2 coffees and a piece of cake - which all came in under £70. Would definitely recommend and wish we lived closer so that we could visit more often.

Popped in for breakfast and we chose the full English. Beautifully presented and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced will definitely visit again to try some more of the menu.

Had a lovely lunch with my wife who had mushrooms on toast which was a nice selection of various mushrooms nicely flavoured. I went for a traditional bacon and sausage sandwich which was made with generous portions of high quality ingredients. Will definitely be back.

Visited for brunch last Sunday. Very busy but we were lucky with our timing. Food and service were absolutely fantastic. Not the cheapest cafe in Whitstable but the quality was great. I would thoroughly recommend it and will visit again on our next trip down.

Very good breakfast. However, no condiments on the table no offers for any sauces. service good but would have liked some salt and sauce for my meal restaurant busy at the time of visit

We were spending the day in Whitstable and happened across No. 1, which looked like a cosy place to have lunch with a nice relaxed vibe. We had a selection of “small plates” which turned out to be larger than expected - almost main course sized in some cases. I had sautéed wild mushrooms to start, which were delicious - lovely big ceps, sliced and lightly sautéed in butter and served with a tarragon mayonnaise. Next I had moules mariniere, which came in a dinner plate-sized bowl, swimming in a lovely creamy broth, with some delicious home-made bread to soak up the juices. I also ordered some smoked almonds, but ended up wrapping these in a napkin to take home as I was full after the two “small plates”. The bill was very reasonable (about £45 for two of us, including drinks), although it was not possible to leave a tip using the card machine so remember to bring a bit of cash, or be prepared to write a review 😁

Food was amazing. We were the only ones in there but went for 4 of the small plates. Scallops, prawns, mussels and chicken. All presented beautifully and tasted amazing. Just some constructive criticism, the Parmesan fires were ok. But would be better as skin on fries, layer the cheese and the truffle mayo on the side. Apart from this it was 10/10.

Mixed bag at this restaurant. The service was inattentive and the staff seemed slow and distracted. The food itself was delicious but the portion size was very, very small for the price paid. I would only consider coming back if those things would improve.

Stumbled upon this quaint little restaurant whilst quite hangry - the food did not disappoint and the service was exceptional. Thoroughly pleased. I also really appreciated that the owners took the time and care to reply to so many of these reviews. How cute :)

We are visiting Whitstable for the weekend and had just enjoyed a walk up to and around the castle, then on to the main bathing beach lined with the many pretty huts and nice promenade. Walking back home through the bustling market area, that offered a great vibe, we ventured back towards the town. We very soon walked past No. 1 and viewed the window menu. We were invited in, and offered a nice table in the window. For 2 of us the menu was perfect at 1.30pm. We chose the amazing, full cooked breakfast, with thick brown toast, home made baked-beans, super tasty sausage, black pudding, mushroom, bacon, and my choice of poached egg. We also had the devine, chorizo and potato dish with egg which was so generous and tasty. Together with a substantial and hearty bacon sandwich, (lovely but not required) just sounded great and we were famished! The cost was very fair and service super. Thank you all, team No.1

It's a great restaurant just off the Whitstable high Street! The staff were friendly and the restaurant has a calm atmosphere. The food tasted great and was presented nicely. Would definitely recommend for a dinner out.

Only stopped in for a pot of tea. Cracker it was too. Intended to return the next day but events conspired. Saw some food going to other customers: looked great and decent portions. Find out for sure next time.

Stumbled across this little gem while staying for the night in Whitstable with my partner. I struggle a lot with breakfast options being dairy free but they were so lovely and had multiple alternative milk options and made the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on toasted bagel dairy free for me and it was so good! The coffee is amazing too, some of the best I’ve found outside my own cafe as a barista. Staff lovely as well if a little slow but completely understandable as was busy and they were doing great! Would definitely recommend and wish I lived closer so I could visit all the time!

Ive been here on several occasions for breakfast lunch and in the evening can't fault the service or the food. Lovely atmosphere! An asset to whitstable. The small dishes in the evening are my favourite lovely casual dining with a good choice of wine. Will definitely be back and recomend to others.

Had a celebration meal at the weekend. Food was amazing. All the food was served at the same time The staff couldn't fo enough for us. Definitely worth a visit

Had taken a £250 deposit for a wedding meal, didn’t contact that they were permanently shut by bailiffs, avoiding any form of contact, promised money to be returned to account on 03/07/2023 then have again given no contact when this wasn’t the case, kept the money and won’t answer any correspondence or refund the money back. Awful service, will be taking to court. Poor management with no clue how to professionally run a business. I’d rate it a solid 0 if I could.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Booked Wedding with sister restaurant which was then shut down 4 weeks ago, have tried multiple times to get in contact to get refund of deposit for my wedding which was not a small amount of money. Edging around giving refund back and also not returning correspondence regarding refund.

We were given the corner table which was very cramped. The room was uncomfortably warm and we had to wait for the manager to return before the aircon could be turned on. We were then showered with water and had to move to a different table. The food took some time to arrive and the vegan breakfast had avocado which was not mentioned on the menu. I had the full English and the black pudding, sausage and bacon were overcooked. The black pudding was virtually inedible and I had to leave most of it. We told the waitress that it wasn't good and she said she would inform the chef but we heard no more! There was no offer of a reduction on the bill. We had eaten here earlier in the year and thoroughly enjoyed our food but after this experience we will not be going back.

The most delicious breakfast I've had in a long time. I had the eggs benedict which were cooked to perfection. My friend had the vegetarian breakfast and the beans were so good (think rich homemade tomato sauce) they inspired us to attempt our own at home. Would highly recommend.

This was my first visit to Whitstable and I decided to dine here for dinner, from the moment I entered, the service was very warm and welcoming. I was recommended a wine that was delicious (malbec) and I ordered 3 small plates; the chill and garlic prawns, the squid and some Brocoli. All of the dishes were beautiful made and came out in an efficient manner. I was checked on 2/3 times to see if there was anything I needed and to ensure the food was to my satisfaction which it was. The decor of the restaurant is modern and artistic. The location is perfect as you are in the town and a short walk to the water front. It is an amazing restaurant and the menu has something for everyone. I would definitely recommend x

A very helpful and friendl and helpful place

We came for lunch, very slow service, the waitresses were more interested in chatting than serving. A lovely waiter gave us some menus, after 30 minutes we went to the bar to order and was told they come to us. After 10 minutes one of the girls took our order. My mum specifically ordered a gluten free dish. When it arrived it was on a slice of normal bread. I asked the waitress if the dish was gluten free, and she asked the chef ‘was that thing I just took out gluten free?’ The chef replied no because he didn’t know it had to. Turns out they didn’t have any gluten free dishes, but that should have been explained, so eggs were the only option on their own! If we had known we wouldn’t have stayed. Attitudes of the waitresses were not what I expected. The waiter was very apologetic, but just check before you order if you have any allergens!!

After waiting at least 30mins for avocado and scrambled egg on toast, it arrived in an uncooked state. They were runny, raw and looked unappetising. We left hungry without paying, do not recommend!!

We enjoyed our stop here for a tasty cafe-style lunch. Overall, good quality food which, with non-alcoholic drinks, for three people came to ~£45. I enjoyed the avocado toast, although without the side of chips I ordered it would have been a fairly light lunch.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Good choice of coffees, even Cortado. The scone with lemon zest was the best I've ever had! Neighbouring table had order a fish sandwich. I suffered from massive food envy at the point! It looked amazing. 🤩
