No 28 in Newcastle upon Tyne

Espacio reservado para una fiesta (sorpresa) número 40 hace unos meses... Nos dijeron que seríamos capaces de entrar temprano en el día para decorar. Sin embargo, cuando llamé un par de semanas antes de la fiesta - me dijeron lo más temprano que sería capaz de hacer que era 6. 45 / 7 pm... Aunque se le permitió tomar decoraciones / pastel más temprano en el día ... . Llegó a las 19. 10 - se le dijo muy tajantemente “solo son las siete y diez - no estás reservado hasta las siete y media - no puedes hacer nada hasta entonces, primero tendré que expulsar a todos de la zona... ”... . Decir que me sentí decepcionado es una eufemismo. Yo mismo trabajo en hostelería, así que sepan lo importantes que son las primeras impresiones... Llegamos al espacio asignado a las siete y media. La junta de “reserva” no se había establecido hasta entonces... .. las mesas tenían vasos puestos y estaban sucias... ... pedimos que se limpiaran pero eso nunca sucedió... . Mi yerno había reservado el lugar - (era el número 40 de mi hija) ... había reservado un paquete de bebidas - en ese momento ni siquiera podía molestarme en volver con la joven con la que había hablado en primer lugar - además de que estaba demasiado ocupado tratando de conseguir la decoración del lugar ... . (mi yerno fue a hablar con ella después de que llegó con mi hija) ... . . las bebidas eran precios razonables y la música era genial ... . . pero lo volvería a reservar? Probablemente no (y sí he estado aquí antes! )

Mal almuerzo del domingo. Las papas fritas Hallouni que no sabían a nada más que al aceite en el que se freían se servían con un asqueroso baño blanco (se supone que era chile dulce). Cuatro de nosotros elegimos carne de panza de cerdo confitada que llegó como dos rodajas de cerdo de lomo seco con brotes y zanahorias demasiado cocidos, pudín de Yorkshire duro, puré de swede, patatas asadas insípidas y salsa de paquete. No hay repollo rojo estofado o puré según el menú. Tuve que pedir continuamente cubiertos, servilletas, sal y pimienta. Dos que eligieron el pechugón de carne estaban contentos con sus asados, Gerente muy disculpado, dijo que estaban cambiando de menú y camarera era nuevo, así que no había explicado. Eso no excusa la execrable cocina. Sin cargo por las comidas de cerdo o entrantes. Izquierda, hambrienta, en busca de comida. Vea mi otra reseña con fecha de hoy para lo que sucedió después.

El personal sabía que lo que pedimos no era lo correcto, pero no nos dijo hasta que nos quejamos. Nuestros amigos que tenían carne dijeron que estaba bien, pero no muy bien y ciertamente no caliente. No volveremos.

Siento que tal vez podrían tener más personal en períodos ocupados, pero no podrían culparlo de otra manera. Sin duda volvería!

No 28 is a hidden gem for bottomless brunch in Newcastle! Didn't even realise it was there until I visited with friends for a birthday celebration. Once we were seated the drinks flowed and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was delicious, served buffet style because of the size of our party and there was plenty for everyone. We enjoyed the basic package but you can upgrade for more drinks choices if you want to. Definitely worth a visit!

7 tapas with Groupon voucher and 2 drinks. Food was excellent and plenty. Staff always there and attentive. Lifted stuffed certainly going back soon.

The bar/ restaurant is a hidden gem. You literally walk into Alice in Wonderland venue. Had a great warm welcome by friendly staff. The food was simply amazing and very affordable I cannot recommend this venue enough

Went as a Christmas present from our daughter in Australia, with my husband, daughter, son in law and my parents. The venue is quirky and I loved it. The food was outstanding and good sized portions - brilliant tapas. We were served by Grace and Kyke and I can honestly say they made our night, excellent service, so friendly - thank you both. I hope the management team realise what an asset these 2 are

Bottomless brunch here: the lovely Grace looked after us and was a great audience for our madness. The food was smashing and the idea of putting bottles of Prosecco on the table instead of fetching it a glass at a time was excellent ! 2 hours of limitless drink “went down” very well and the atmosphere was buzzing. Excellent!

Went for bottomless brunch yesterday and Grace our server was fab, very quick with our drinks and made sure we were always topped up! The food as part of the brunch was very tasty and great choice. Would definitely recommend. Great value for money!

wow… this place is usually where i go on a weekend for a drink and a dance. Heard they did good tapas and it was 50% off so checked it out, food was amazing.. even at full price would have been happy. next stop trying the sunday dinner

My wife and I went to No. 28 for tapas and drinks. We were greeted by Grace, who took us to our table, then explained the menu and drink options available. Throughout the meal, we were served by both Grace and Kyle, who were both very welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. The tapas were all absolutely wonderful, as were the drinks. All in all, a very pleasant evening, and we will certainly be returning. Thank you both.

My friend and i came for Tapas last night. The hospitality and service was so personal and not like the big chain restaurants at all. Warm ,friendly and they made the experience a superb couple of hours. It really is a hidden gem that needs to be shout about... then there's the food! Portions are amazing, fresh and unbelievably tasty.The quality of the dishes again superceeded some of the well know chains in the city serving the same type of food at a higher charge. Please give this place a try,you will not leave disappointed.

What can I say about no28. This was my first time coming here. The young lady that greeted me at the door (sorry I didn't get her name) was polite and friendly and sat me at my table. Our waiter Sam introduced himself to us. He was lovely and polite. He went through the menu with us. We upgraded to the turbo bottomless brunch which includes cocktails. Strawberry Mojito was to die for. We each opted for burger. It was so tasty and the seasoning on the fries was a nice touch. Sam was very attentive and didn't have to wait long to get our drinks refilled. The whole experience was amazing.

We popped in here for some food before a gig on a Wednesday evening. We a couple of cocktails to start then ordered some tapas. The service was spot on. The food came out in about 15mins so not too long. We had a lovely bottle chardonnay with our food can't remember the name but was delicious for the price as was our food. We even went back after the gig to a totally different vibe a little more upbeat! Would definitely recommend this place but with a little warning its open to 3am and time seems to fly by we left at 2!!!

Bad service...unfriendly staff..and really disgusted at the DJ and his stinking attitude when asked for a request and then to reply "well you can just f*ck off to pop world" which is a near by venue he also insulted another woman saying the same thing to her and then went onto insult another woman after that saying "if she wearnt happy to f*ck off back to her own country". I do hope that this idiot gets sacked from his job aswell as taking his nasty insulting attitude he haunts in other venues he will be hired at as I certainly wouldn't want to be anywhere he happens to haunt because I do know that these businesses will lose custom.

Celebración número 40 para una familia de 5 personas sin fondo La comida del brunch prosseco fue de primera calidad y el personal y la gerencia fueron de primera categoría, todos amables e informativos con respecto a las preguntas sobre el lugar y el menú de cócteles. Excelentes cócteles: todos volveremos definitivamente y les he pasado detalles de esta pequeña joya a mis amigos. Volveré pronto con mi esposo para disfrutar de otra hermosa tarde de sábado.

Compramos otra ronda pensando que hablaría en voz alta ya que el lugar estaba muy tranquilo y ya estábamos allí. El portero se negó a dejarlo entrar porque no había reserva, pero no hicimos la reserva y nos dejamos entrar de inmediato. ¡Así que tuvimos que dejar nuestras bebidas ya que él estaba esperando afuera y se fue a casa! Felizmente nos hubiéramos sentado allí hasta cerca, ¡pero porque el portero socavó al gerente! Todos los que estaban trabajando fueron muy amables y se disculparon mucho, ¡ya que no pudieron hacer nada al respecto! ¡No es correcto cómo un portero puede decidir cuándo la gente está en voz alta para entrar y hacer que el negocio pierda clientes y ganancias!

Lovely little low-key venue tucked away in Newcastle. Reasonably priced drinks with lovely staff and accommodating service. What a beautiful, lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely little bar. They even have a camel ! ! ! Not a real one of course

This has to the be too spot in town, been visiting this venue for years since its opening as No.28. Staff are all excellent, top cocktails and music always en point. Thanks for yet another excellent night, see you all soon.

He frecuentado el número 28 muchas veces a lo largo de los años y me encanta. Desde la comida (menú y cocina increíbles a cargo de Zucchini, un restaurante exuberante en otra parte de la ciudad) hasta los cócteles y la diversa selección de música. Muy justo en precios considerando lo céntrico que es, más barato que muchos de los otros lugares "de alto nivel" de la ciudad.Cada vez que visito el personal es más que atento, es gente amable, conversadora y fabulosa en su trabajo. Definitivamente es reconfortante ver lo bien que tratan con COVID 19, solo brindan servicio de mesa y siempre hay un miembro del personal cerca para tomar su pedido o limpiar su mesa.Siempre 10/10, nos vemos pronto.

Been told to leave the place because my friend and me were apparently seating on a table booked at 2am ... the bar was almost empty...the apparently “manager” need a good customers service lessons as he doesn’t know how to deal with customers at all. Then the “ owner” very rude came up asking us to leave immmediatly for no reason and his attitude was so small and ridiculous. Those people don’t deserve customers spending their money there because they don’t care about them. He need to learn how to treat well his customer.

We were due to arrive at 21:30. Due to Eden being really slow with the food, I called up to say we'd be 15/20 minutes late. When we got there, a friend was not being allowed in because he was "too drunk". It is very apparent from his dress sense and mannerisms that he is gay. The bouncer let the rest of us in. When we arrived, we were told 3 times that we'd be kicked out if we did certain things (e.g. more than 2 in a toilet at one time). Killed the mood completely. It was very clear that the bouncer was homophobic and when we told the bar staff, they were not bothered. So we left. So due to the homophobic bouncer, the bar missed out on hundreds of pounds of drinks.

I used to love this place, went with a friend recently for a catch up and ordered some food. The 'spicy' chicken wings with horseradish sauce were definitely not so, rather they were in a bland tomato sauce, it did not taste like nudja (literally lasted like tomato passata). The pasta we ordered tasted like a microwave meal and a small portion. Such a shame. This place used to have such a friendly atmosphere and I've been completely put off. I understand it could have been a bad night for the staff but it was definitely not a good night for us.

Searching for a decent drink without a booking or a full body sanitation on entry, decided to try an old favourite at no 28. Doorstaff asked us to wait a moment to check there was room upstairs, staff met us at the door to take us to our table and good times ensued. Tremendous service from Ellen from the moment we sat down until we left and tentative service from the manager while he dealt with the distanced groups. Best bar experience since lockdown ended and would recommend to anyone who like a decent drink made well. Made our night and we definitely will be back soon

I discovered this place when searching for a nice cocktail bar in Newcastle. It is a true hidden gem. The decor is fantastic and all cocktails I’ve tried have been special. The bartenders all know their stuff and are efficient. I’ve not had food here but have heard it’s good. This is such a good spot for friends, couples, big groups etc.

Me and some girl friends decided to do a bottomless brunch at No28 for our get together over Xmas! The service was amazing. We had a gentleman called Kieran looking after us and he was just the best he was very quick to top us up and was really helpful and really provided a great service. The burgers were delicious and we had a great time. The interior was really nice having never been before we really enjoyed how quirky it was! Hopefully will be back soon! Thank you

Visited over the weekend for bottomless brunch, a group of around 10 of us and it was fantastic. The bar staff were quick to keep the Prosecco bottles coming, made sure our reserved area stayed empty for us (despite a couple of chancers!) and were helpful with our food selection as there were a couple of dietary requirements, the chef even came out and had some banter with us.Really good experience and one of the better bottomless brunches I’ve been to, would definitely come here again.

I’ve been here a few times with friends for a drink and the cocktails are the best. Loads of variety and great value too. Really like how there are split levels which makes it more interesting.

A nice atmosphere, off the beaten track by the market. Good selection of cocktails, a tasty mint porter was on draught. We will be back next time we visit Newcastle for some afternoon/evening drinking.

I went for drinks here the other week and fell in love with the place. It’s got such a lovely atmosphere and is a hidden gem. I’ve been recommending this place to all my friends if they ever go into newcastle for a drink, can’t wait to go back.

Went tonight with my boyfriend for restaurant week at MeatStack, as we love a good burger and a bargain! We arrived at 7:45 pm and got a couple of drinks. The cocktail I ordered was delicious. Nobody offered us a table so we found a small table ourselves. The table was covered in the last people's empty burger wrappers, which somebody came to clean up after we had been waiting for a long while. We ordered 2 burgers, chicken wings and 2 loaded fries portions. Our food took one and a half hours to arrive. The burgers were okay, but nothing special, and the wings had a revolting blue cheese sauce on them that made them inedible. In addition, the middle of the wings were poorly cooked and still pink. During our wait, the temperature in the bar had been crawling up, so that by the time that our food came, it was far too hot for me to be eating hot food. Luckily MeatStack provided us with a food container so I could finish my burger at home. Honestly, we had a terrible time.

Have been here for quite a few quizzes now, atmosphere is great, music always good, quizmaster is always on top form but the highlight is always the food! Best burgers in Newcastle by miles

I brought along an older friend who'd long been curious given the bars location. Despite many reservations we were accommodated to prevent my friend having to tackle more stairs, service was so kind and fantastically clued up, and the food was incredible. Prices very reasonable too given the high standards.

Came for the prosecco brunch again. The unlimited prosecco is truly unlimited and the food is amazing. Best burger ever and the chips are to die for. Special mention to Katie one of the staff. She's always friendly, smiley and a good laugh.

We’d come across 28 late last year. It is easy to miss as the doorway is within the entrance to Grainger Market. The bar is upstairs and long but not very wide, which is okay. There are some great seating adaptions within the bar and some great artwork throughout. Our first visit was marred by a girl taking too much of some sort of Prosecco deal and was ill (not the bars fault and a poor staff member had to clean up the gluttonous girls vomit!). The bar is okay from choices and is in keeping with the size of the place. The view into the kitchen / cleaning area above the steps isn’t the best. Staff are spot on. The main issue which you seem to get less and less in the city is the number of staff serving behind the bar. We’ve been here 4 times no and on 3 occasions, it has taken quite a while to get served. Cocktails are one of the problems, but with the mark up on these drinks, this should pay for an extra staff member. On our last visit, we waited over 10 minutes and never got near the bar, so went over to Alchemist. We were served straightaway. Not the biggest issue, granted, but this stops a decent bar from being very good.

Visited when friends had booked area for 40th birthday. Area was supposed to be reserved for party. When my partner was up to greet another friend his coat was stolen and drinks taken. I understand that normally when out that you would not ever leave personal belongings however due to understanding area was reserved for a private party that this might not be necessary as one greeted other party dwellers when they entered and be able to do so without others coming in and taking £600 coats when this occurred. Staff were rude and aggressive when confronted over theft with no apologies over others being in area. Would hate to have booked when actual gifts were involved. Drinks average prices however toilets very poor facilities with no toilet roll and signs of drugs being taken in premise when was proven necessary to visit toilet. As stated wouldn't recommend for function due to security and physical and verbal abusive staff when mentioned coat being taken and then mentioned negligence to control drugs used on premises. Will be reporting further.

I absolutely love this place, I have been at all times of the day and night and am never disappointed. Burgers and amazing, bottomless prosecco was fab. this is the type of place I have visited with both my Mam and boyfriend - its something for everyone and you can reserve areas for birthdays. Love the fact you are open til 3am too!

Chose to go here for food to try somewhere different. We ordered two burgers from the menu and we were very disappointed when they arrived. Literally put down in front of us were two burgers wrapped in paper on the same small tray and that was it. The barman then walked away and left us to it. Not a knife, fork or napkin to be seen and the burgers didn't come with anything at all. To pay £8.50 each for a burger you'd expect something else with it, even just a small offering on the side for presentation. Although the burger was very tasty, it was disappointing and over priced for what it was. Wouldn't recommend for a place to eat!

Started attending no 28 when I found out they did quiz nights - absolutely brilliant atmosphere and lovely staff. Food is amazing, couldn’t recommend it enough (definitely the nicest burgers in Newcastle!)

Went for the unlimited prosecco brunch with a small group of friends and couldn't fault anything. Food was amazing - best burgers ever. And the prosecco was definitely unlimited! Would recommend to everyone. Decor is interesting and eclectic too.

Lovely bar, exposed stone walls, large sash windows, shabby chic style decor.

Visited with friends for prosecco and burgers deal. Staff were excellent. Food was ace. Fizz flowed. I’m very happy.

We went here on recommendation Saturday night without knowing what to expect. Lovely welcome at the door by the door supervisor and downstairs was a very cool bar with live music.. everyone was dancing and the clientele was so mixed and diverse that anyone would feel comfortable there! Very friendly vibe and obviously popular! Not to be missed.

I went on a friday night, 11pm, very few customers present, probably about 10, perhaps 4 at the bar. Waited to be served, waited and then waited some more. The bar staff were very busy, one with chatting to a friend without end, basically in front of me, two others then emerged at the scene, while sipping coffee or tea and chatting to each other and the forth actually did serve someone else but when she finished with that she started to rinse some glasses. Appalling service, funny enough or actually not that funny, the same happened to me and some mates before, bar staff busy with everything but serving customers. I had another look at the lagers on offer (stella, bud light and some other nasty stuff)) and decided it was time to leave and never come back.

Had a burger each with some chips- they were the best burgers we have had in a long time. Good value for money too

Myself and two friends booked in for the 'unlimited prosecco' offer tha this bar does on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. For £25 you can drink as much prosecco as humanly possible in 2 hours and there's a meal thrown in as well! We had a great table by the window over looking the street, the place was full but did not feel packed as there was a nice chilled atmosphere. As soon as we were seated the bar attendant brought over our first bottle. I was a bit dubious as to whether the prosecco would be a decent one since it was 'unlimited ' however it was spot on, absolutely delicious! Service was excellent as we were given another bottle before the current one was even empty. The food was really tasty and generous size portions. The choice was from a set menu of three options- all gastro burgers. Plus a veggie option. Was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had actually. I strongly recommend this place, it was a great place to catch up with the girls as it wasn't too noisy so we could chat to our hearts content. A brilliant way to start an afternoon/ night out.

A great night late night venue. Firm believes inservice with attitude but I've never had unfairly poor or bad service. I'd consider "Grind" a different beast as I was unimpressed with their burgers.

El lugar es un poco peculiar y diferente, puede ser un poco complicado saber cuál es el mejor lugar para sentarse, ya que encontramos una carga de reservados nitices en las mesas. Personal muy amable y hacen un gran hamburguesa. Bien merece una visita!

Este lugar solía ser genial, no algunas de las mejores tapas que he probado. Así que me quedé decepcionado cuando volví a Newcastle para encontrar ahora sólo hamburguesas! No entiendo por qué, no son incluso buenas hamburguesas manky saben como un viejo para llevar burger. Es ahora una cara para llevar muy bien decorado. Estoy entristecido que no regresaré aquí, ya que era uno de mis lugares favoritos para comida y cócteles.

Best burger I have ever had in Newcastle! My only criticism of the place is the beer is far too expensive for where it is located. £4.80 for a pint above the Grainger market is way over the top.

This is my favourite bar in town. The decor's spot on, nice balance between quirky and functional. Plenty of beers on offer as well as spirits and cocktails. I've never tried it but the prosecco offer seems very popular. The music ranges from dance classics to hip hop anthems to soul and funk floor fillers. After about eleven people start dancing and it changes from a bar to a club atmosphere. Always free entry as well so you really can't lose.

First time been in this place on first impression a decent place to spend some time on a Saturday afternoon. Staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was good. So all good. Not the best advertised place mind, the door is within the entrance to the Grainger market blink and you would not see it. Would definitely return again

Looks nice and quirky on a dark night. Try visiting during the day when you can see the filth and lack of cleanliness. It's disgusting to say the least. Take a look around. Everything's filthy covered in grease and dust. Glasses are cloudy and don't feel washed. Bar staff swan around in a lazy 'couldn't care less' state. Check the attached Scores on the Doors for proof. Score 3 translates to FILTHY!

Called in on spec 01.05.2017 ,a bank holiday, town quiet ,bar quiet so no overstretched staff problems.I'd read a recent review by the Journals Eddy Eats who gave a glowing report.Shoulda gone to Specsavers Ed..this place is minging.Everything from glassware to décor to toilets to furniture is filthy.We sat down to eat but decided against , after witnessing the deplorable state of the place.If this is the best they can do "front of House" I wouldn't risk trying anything from the kitchen.Won't be back until the whole joint is jet washed and disinfected.

Recommended by my cousin about 20 minutes before. We walked passed it 3 times. So keep looking you won't regret it. Inside is quirky, and comfortable. Great mix of music too!! The menu is small! But as they say quality is better than quantity. We got burger, fries and wings on a deal for £10 great value. The burger melted in your mouth, fries cooked in beef dripping, wings in a sauce that was very more ish! Would definitely recommend.

Visited after hearing rave reviews. It's a bit tricky to find, upstairs. Quite small but quirky, I would say student type place but there was a mixed crowd & mixed age. Good ambience about the place. Limited menu but we came for the burgers so no issue. Food comes on a tray with side plates. Our orders of burgers were incorrect- hence the score- but it wasn't a major issue so we didn't raise it. The burgers look small but are VERY very good- the buns are extra nice, chips very good but the wings aren't for me. Great value at £10. Will visit again, but need some additions to the menu.

What a lovely quirky place this is! I loved the decor. We went for the burger more than anything else after reading a review stating they were the best burgers in Newcastle! They were certainly tasty along with the sides especially for the price! You can't go wrong

Unlimited indeed! As soon as we arrived, a bottle was on our table and they kept coming! There were seven of us and the staff kept us topped up with two bottles at a time for the whole two hours, it was great not to have to ask or nudge them, we were just left to have a good time! Food was great too, good burger and good portion size; enough to line the stomach but not too big for feeling stuffed! Will definitely be back!

This was an absolutely brilliant afternoon with the girls; ideal to chat and giggle in comfortable surroundings with our own reserved space.Not once did we have to remind staff to bring another bottle when we had finished one...they regularly came to top us up and brought two fresh bottles to the table to chill on ice. It really was "unlimited". The prosecco was of a good standard and the food (we had an assortment of burgers with fries) was delicious. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. I'm already booking up to go again!

You wouldn't know that this place existed from the outside but it's a great find once you get upstairs. Good cocktails, good atmosphere and definitely somewhere worth a visit.

This is one of my favourite bars in newcastle. Intimate, quirky and great drinks. Food is fab too. They do snacky/tapas type food and its great. Defo worth a visit for a quiet drink on a week night. Although it does get busy on a weekend.

We booked this in January for a girls afternoon out. The offer was £20 for unlimited prosecco and food. We joked thinking like most "unlimited" prosecco deals it would in fact be limited! When we arrived we seated at our reserved table and we were given a menu for food. Then within seconds the first bottle was there we filled our glasses up to start our afternoon and as soon as the bottle was empty another was on the table. We really did have unlimited prosecco. It was nice aswell not the cheap tasting one. We had a 2 hour slot which seemed to fly by! Lauren who was serving our table was fantastic nothing was too much trouble for her. We had the choice of tapas or burgers. We all decided on burgers they were delicious. One had a chicken burger and she did say it was beautiful and the table next to us had the tapas and it looked lovely aswell. We enjoyed it that much that we have booked again for April.

Well we had an amazing afternoon with friends for my birthday for the Prosecco & Tapas/ Burger 2hour special for £20 ... Iain and his team were amazing so helpful,prosecco never ran out the burgers were scrupulously delicious such a fantastic venue. We will be back.

Booked this on wed night due to birthday celebrations canny quaint little place is been to before friends they do prosecco all u can drink in 2 hours at the weekends x this is great value and very busy We had our chose of table as no one about at 5 pm which lovely Only had burgers thought ahhh I'll just have burger then x chicken breast it was lovely x chips etc all lovely special which I didn't know until waiter told me 10 quid for burger fries n wings good deal x drinks not cheap mind got shock wen god bill it was cheaper to drink short jack Daniels n coke then cider But over all lovely meal lovely place x I'd go back for special occasion but couldn't afford it all time to drink ....food cheap on par and lovely x

First time here. We opted for the Proseco offer (on til 9.00pm). Very friendly and welcoming place to visit. Bit quirky in style. Shabby chic. Some original features remain. Well worth a visit. This part of town is undergoing a bit of a renaissance with the Alchemist (opposite) and the nearby Eldon Square food quarter.
