The play area needs a big refurbishment. The play barn is very cold, partly because the plastic sheeting on the outside walls has torn in many places, so the wind whistles through. The "under twos" area was very wet as it seems the rain had got in. Several broken toys, one with a sharp edge, and the few electronic ones had flat batteries. Our little one enjoyed the outside area last summer, but I wouldn't go there again unless it was sunny. The animals are a bonus. If you aren't taking children, the café is fine.

1st time visit yesterday, was a reasonable price and worth a visit to Nixons for the indoor play barn, did the trick keeping the little one busy for a bit. Also has a few animals, a farm shop and tea rooms. Probably better when the weather is a warmer as they have an outdoor play zone too.

I have not been to Nixons before and had heard mixed feedback. However my daughter and I took a close friend for her 91st birthday. This lady had been before and as she has a small appetite is easily pleased with a simple diet. We ordered drinks (which were nice, but nothing special ) our elderly friend asked for poached eggs on toast but because Nixons don’t offer them (only fried or scrambled!) she opted for a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich which was nice enough served with small green salad leaves and crisps, she said it was nice but crusts were very hard and she didn’t eat those. My daughter and I ordered the large breakfast, which was 2 slices of toast, 2 bacon slices, two sausages and two fried eggs and a choice of two extra sides neither: ( hash brown/beans/mushroom/tomato/black pudding) . The two breakfasts arrived, the toast was pre buttered, ( not nice) the eggs and bacon were lovely but the sausages were tiny little tough skinned - mushy in the middle poor quality excuses for a sausage. The beans came in small side dish as did the watery tinned chopped tomato. Very very disappointed . As this establishments boasts the quality of its produce. I would rather have had one large quality sausage, half a fresh grilled tomato and toasted bread with a butter pat - Morisons offer a better breakfast for a cheaper price. The staff were pleasant enough, but that’s their job and was appreciated. I shan’t go again to Nixons as there are plenty of local food establishments offering better quality breakfasts in this area.

Took our grandchildren for play and lunch today . Lunch was very nice and enjoyed by all . Play area is ok although the area for under 2 s is in need of a deep clean . Very dirty , I wouldn't allow grandson to touch the play kitchen it's that dirty . Considering it's for under 2s there's a huge step ! Overall a nice hour out

I regularly meet up with friends here and we enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Great price, service and cannot fault the food. Having been to Morrisons, I know which place I prefer to eat every time! The car park was busy today so I think that indicates the popularity of the the place.

This place has been a godsend to me & my hubby this Summer. We’ve brought our grandchildren here (aged 7 & 22 months) a few times. It’s very reasonably priced, and it’s good that they only charge for the children & not the adults!!!! The outside play area is clean and there is lots of safe play equipment and also push along and ride on toys, as well as building bricks, a bouncy castle and large sandpit. There is a large area undercover with plenty of tables & chairs close to the cafe and the food is good and not too expensive. There are goats, sheep & llamas outside and pigs, rabbits, birds etc., indoors. There is an inside play barn that costs just £3 extra but we haven’t used it as the weather has been good every time we’ve gone. Despite being really busy (we had to use the overflow car park) there was plenty of space for the children to play & run around and for adults to sit and move around. The farm shop is good too and there is a gift shop, as well as undercover tables & chairs for dining. There are two blocks of toilets with baby changing facilities in both, and they’re nice & clean. We always feel that the children are safe here and they love it!!!!

As a regular visitor I would say it offers a good variety of activities and toys for children in the play area. The food from the cafe could have a more updated menu and slightly higher quality. One thing I did notice today is that some of the toys in the sandpit were broken and being plastic had some sharp edges so should really be replaced. Overall somewhere between 3 and 4 out of 5.

My 1 and 2 year old and myself have spent a lot of time this summer at Nixons. It’s our favourite place to visit! Play area excellent and the kids don't seem to mind that the play barn is freezing cold. But the food is awful and so overpriced, I even had to ask the miserable teenager behind the counter to put another tea bag in my brew so I was paying nearly £2 for at least a half decent mug of tea.

No charge to park or to enter. There are a few animals to see. You may not need a push chair as everything is compact. A £4 wrist band allows your child on quite a lot of play equipment including bouncy castles. I don't think there is any time limit. The cafe is spread around the play areas so you can watch your children while you drink cappuccino. They serve nice snacks and meals including my recommendation which is their all day slimming breakfast.

We visited for a Sunday brunch. The tearoom has a nice farm house feel to it and the staff were pretty pleasant. The food however, was very much on the average side, not what we expected from a farm shop tearoom. The coffee (flat white) was far too milky so could definitely be improved. The rest of the buildings (farm-shop, butcher and animal enclosures) were worth a little wander. Overall: food/coffee could be improved and I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

We met as a group of friends with some young children. It was very busy and we placed our food and drink orders. The drinks came quickly but we waited a long time for food. We did speak to the waitress and she sorted our food out and gave us complimentary drinks for our wait. Very nice service. I just think the hike of £4 per play is a bit too much especially when most of it is in the freezing barn. Still worth a visit though and we will be back.

Special thanks to Julie and her team. We hired the Hay Loft on a Saturday morning for Dad's 60th birthday. Julie and her team kindly arranged for there to be a brunch arranged with hot/cold food served. The food was exceptional. The Hay Loft is exquisite with a lovely log burner, wooden beams, plenty of space (there were 26 of us) and some comfy armchairs too. The waitresses were excellent, really impressed with them. All-in-all, the event couldn't have gone better, thanks to Julie and her team at the Moody Cow Cafe. Would fully recommend the hiring of the Hay Loft to anyone looking to plan an event!

We came here on the recomendation from a friend who lives in the area. We made the 40 minute drive and was not dissapointed. The place is large and has three areas for the kids to explore and all for ONLY £4 per child (Someone has actually complanied about the price on here, come on, £4 is a steal) The areas are all different and space is a plenty. I was really surprised to see it not overly busy as it is halfterm, which again is great. I think this place is a hidden gem, not many people seem to know about it. (The lack of pictures on trip advisor highlights this) Food is cheap and you get good portions, two adults and a childs meal will hit you for about £13, which again is very cheap. Coffee is expensive, costa prices but without the barista, but given everything else is so cheap, on balance, its fair. The farm shop / butchers has a stack of quality meats and they are also well priced. You get what you pay for with fresh meat, so people who are complaining about the farm shop prices, simply go back to the super market for cheap meat. Overall, we will be returning in the future, the place has loads going on to keep the kids entertained for a good few hours. I thought the place was clean and unlike the last review (who was complaining about dog muck, we didnt see anything) Worth the 40mins drive!

Went to the butcher shop on a bank holiday Monday a few months back (review is a bit late I know) for some quality meat for a bbq.....the owner (woman behind the counter) was very rude, I came in at 4.20 and they didnt have much out just a few sausages and bacon. She made clear to me that they are closing at 4.30 clearly 10 minutes before close down should take place.....this made us feel rushed, so I said to her nicely 'oh is that because its a bank holiday you are closing early' and she said back in a rude manor 'yes some people have to work on the weekend' Thats not my problem if she had to work on the weekend.....me and my partner are both chefs....and this was the first bank holiday we have had off in fact we never get a weekend off let alone a bank holiday. We both do 15 hours days with no break probably a lot more hours then she is used to working! I found what she said very rude, affensive and made feel pretty uncomfortable. I'm sure the meat may have been good quality if it would of put in an appearance. But unfortunately we only ended up leaving with a pack of sausages....which to be blunt wasnt all that good.....its a shame that a place that has the potential to a be little gem is spoiled with someone who clearly sees custom as a chore. Lost our business and being in the trade probably a lot of potential new business in the future!!! If your intent was to drive away potential new customers.....then congratulations....on a job well done!!!!!

Severe attitude problem from the lady owner, if you don't want to work a bank holiday then it's simple, take the day off!!

Visited last Sunday for the tea room breakfast. Not £3.50 as advertised on boards nearby. Ordered two breakfast and orange juice. Orange juice arrived in plastic cups. Breakfast came, sausages and bacon over cooked and beans mixed in with tomatoes (hadn't ordered beans) the young waitress that delivered the breakfast dropped our toast on my partners hat and then instead of apologising for getting butter on his hat, she just placed the slice of toast on his plate.

Bought some meat from Nixons, well it was lovely and tasty. I'm a big fan of farm shops and Nixons id up there with the best.

Newly built play barn with bouncy castle for tots and push along toys and tractors. Parents can sit at tables and have great food from the cafe, that does breakfasts for less than £4. No entry fee, which is fantastic, great place, highly recommend. Plus the farm shop/butcher on site does really great meats - get the burgers and sausages you won't be disappointed. My other half is really fussy with sausages and he says these are the best tasted!

We visited the farm shop which carries an excellent range of its own meat as well as other quality local produce to find that there is now a tea-room, serving well priced teas and so forth.

Great range of local real ales, fine lagers and ciders.. Great for live music, supporting up and coming local bands, good for private functions.

Had the 'Two for £10' offer. Mojito and Dacquari served in plain tumblers, a straw, ice and no other decoration. Below average taste and took a while to arrive. Pornstar Martini wasn't part of the offer and was a very small glass and had to ask for shot of prosecco as the bartender said she forgot. It wasn't even that busy!

The food was beautiful! The waitresses were very attentive and our evening out was extremely pleasant. If we weren't heading back down South tomorrow we would have returned for more. Thank you for a lovely time!
