Came across this place after walking around and finding a lot of chain restaurants which we didn't really want. My friend and I had a pasta, bread and a bottle of wine, all of which were lovely. I thought it was well priced compared to some Italian restaurants I've been to recently. One thing, I've looked at its website and it doesn't show a menu. I'd like to bring some friends here but I know they'd like to see the menu first. I, however would definitely come here again.

Great little place and very accomodating on the eve of Coldplay so in a v busy city we got a table straight away and were VERY looked after by the wonderful staff and owner, Maria. She is a delight, very funny and VERY kind and helped us when we were cold outside!! Amazong lady. Great Food and pizza and everything - I would recommend. Thank you guys for a top class meal and for the experience

Got here with my boyfriend for our anniversary sat down for about 40 mins and nobody came over to take our order absolutely appalling service in this place , after all the waiting we ordered and our food came and tasted like it’s just come out of a tesco freezer! Don’t recommend to anyone frozen food, terrible service and overpriced for what it is.

Ate here today before the rugby. Utterly surprised to get a table considering how busy it was and we hadn’t booked. Had a few drinks with three pizzas and a lasange (there were four of us!). The female host (maybe the owner) had a wicked sense of humour and was lovely. Our food took a while (its freshly made and it was super busy) but for this she did apologise- everything was fabulous (and I’ve had many Italian meals)! If we ever go to Cardiff again, we’ll be back!

Me and my partner had a lovely meal here after we visited the city for the Xmas markets. Rather spontaneous after the restaurant we were due to visit was closed but did not disappoint. After a few poor meals in the big Italian chain restaurants recently we were reminded why generally family run local restaurants are the best. Will definitely visit again!

Female manager with dark hair was horribly aggressive throughout. Rolling her eyes, huffing, sighing, complaining, it was a big problem for her to deal with any customers, not just ourselves. Then they overcharged me, but unfortunately I didn't notice until later as I was in a rush to catch a flight (they knew this and I suspect this is why they thought I'd be an easy person to overcharge). Owners need to acknowledge there's a serious issue with staff and fix it rather than attacking every (former) customer on review websites. It is so inappropriate and looks extremely unprofessional. Can't they see how damaging it is for their business?

In town for just one night, and, having had to cancel a reservation elsewhere due to terrible weather conditions, we looked for an alternative at very short notice, and (no disrespect to the venue we missed) were very glad we did. Coming in from the rain, we found this great place with great ambiance and welcome. Perfect choice of drink (wine) and food (pizza and anti pasti) prepared by hard working chef (Piero?) in the open kitchen area, very fresh and quickly served up with friendly humour. Will definitely be back when we return. A great find. Thanks

The owner Piero goes above and beyond to make sure that people are in a very relaxed atmosphere with great service. Please stop by the patio or inside for a great meal, coffee or drink.

Just try the pizza and it was outstanding the best pizza I have had. Welcoming place and amazing staff. If you want a best pizza you should try it. This is going to be my first choice for food. If like authentic Italian food. You should try it 👌

Went into this small Italian restaurant/bar more or less at random while looking for a simple meal on Friday night. We ordered pizzas and a glass of wine and, despite being over 60 and widely travelled, it could well have been the nicest pizza I have ever had. Hot, thin crusty edged base, rich toppings and not too big, it was simply delicious. Combined with friendly service and reasonable prices, this is not to be missed if you are in the city.

In and amongst the usual town centre restaurants sits this very nice authentic Italian. We called in on a very busy Friday evening in town as it was the only place that looked to have space and we're glad we did. Food very fresh and reasonably priced with little wait from ordeing. Really nice atmosphere inside.

Booked through first table so empty when we arrived (wasn’t when we left) because we were off to a gig. Give the proprietor time to warm up. She is lovely, funny and very friendly, just a bit serious to begin with. Small menu but all the elements are good. I had the sea bass and it was wonderful.

The service we received off the staff was disgusting and the place was filthy. I’ve never been made to feel so unwelcome. Rude, abrupt and disrespectful staff coupled with a filthy bar and food prep area made for an unwelcomed visit.

The food at SantaMaria is so good. We had various starters and pizzas on the lunch menu and they were all delicious and served by the nicest people. We all ate every single bite and we'll definitely be coming back in the future

Visited for dinner after work. Staff were helpful and friendly, service was very quick, and the food was delicious. I had the sea bass and it was magnificent!

Excellent food and very friendly waiter. We had the Risotto with Octopus sauce followed by Spaghetti Carbonara and accompanied by a Nero D’avola. I can highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic Authentic Italian food and great staff. Visited with friends and had a great time. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Easily the best Pizza and authentic italian pasta dishes we've had in Cardiff by a long way - will definitely be going back.

I popped in for a quick bite while waiting for my train and was shocked with the quality I was met with. Beer was clean, bubbly, and tasty. And the pizza was simply amazing. Delivered within 7 minutes, the pizza was what what Italian lovers dream of. Pulling a slice from the board was a dream, meat ingredients fresh and tasty. I rarely, very rarely finish any meal. But this one had me going for the next slice like a hungry caveman. Simply brilliant.

Popped in on a busy Saturday night for a drink and a dessert. Warmly received by all staff. Ordered prosecco and couldn't decide between so the chef gladly helped us out! Bit of banter, great service, will check out for food next time in town!

A friend and I called in as we didn't know Cardiff and it looked nice. We were shown straight to a table by friendly staff. The place was nice and clean with a well stocked bar. We both ordered mixed platters to start with olives,garlic bread,cheeses and meats which was £9.95 and just the right size. It went very well with my Chianti! We took our time eating and chatting and staff were happy for us to take as long as we wanted (it was only 16:30 on a Tuesday, so the evening was still warming up). For mains we both got the rib-eye steak with rosemary oil and fries. They were absolutely huge!! (£20.00) An absolutely delicious menu in nice surroundings, I would visit again and sample some other things from the menu too.

My wife and I decided to eat here, we ordered a pizza & a rocket salad, when the pizza arrived it had ham on top, when we told them we were vegetarians, he lifted the ham off, the staff are very friendly, the pizza was excellent, we will definitely eat here again soon.

Piero and his staff are always super polite to me. I have coffee from them every day on my way to work and they are always accommodating. tonight I had my first pizza here and it was amazing! Cooked to perfection! if you like good coffee (not Costas rubbish) then this is your place.

Popped in for an afternoon meal after finishing work. Cozy atmosphere with fresh & modern interior, yet still with a traditional feel to it. I had a pizza and it was truly outstanding- the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life! Followed it with my first ever cannoli for dessert- also delicious. I will definitely be back and can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re in Cardiff and you love a good pizza, this is the place!

Waiter did not warn of the spiciness of Thier food on recommendation. Manager agreed on meeting in the middle and instead underhandedly still charged full price for food left uneaten. On his till comments I watched him type not.

We visited pre concert, the restaurant was fairly busy but we got a table easily.

Booked three weeks before as I knew town would be busy with the Spice Girls in town. Restaurant very busy, but we were quickly given a table for 7. One of the group was Vegan and between the waiter and the chef was able to order a vegan pizza. The rest of the meals were hot and tasty. Freshly made pizzas were lush. I had to get our own cutlery and serviettes, as there was only 1 waiter and 1 barman, but would definitely go back.

My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place and we always keep coming back here, both when it was Nine Yards and now that it’s Santa Maria, whenever we visit Cardiff. As a Maltese person, I have struggled to find authentic Italian food that I enjoy and the Sicilian Cannoli make me feel like I’m back at home! We have been here for lunch, cured meats board and also dinner and can recommend it for all three. Do try it if you’re in the area!

So looks like Nine Yards has been replaced by Santa Maria, an Italian -authentic!- restaurant, much better than other Italian restaurants I tried in Cardiff.

Found this lovely place by accident. Food is amazing and staff are brilliant. Great experience 😁 Will be returning next time we are in Cardiff.

First visit here today, I fancied the look of this place for a while. We went there for coffee and a canolli, the canolli was chilled, not crisp and tasted stale.The young lady who served us was lovely, and replaced our order with a couple of Italian biscuits from a jar on the counter, also a bit stale. Disappointing

Love to support smaller and/or independents, but you need to be top of your game and your poor attitude and lack of interest meant we decided to go elsewhere and have a great meal! Get out of bed the right side or shut up shop...

I frequent the branch in High St Arcade so can only speak of that one - for now! Went in this morning and had a pancake as well as a cup of delicious coffee. The food never disappoints (today's offering being filling yet light), music is fab, service is excellent. A great place to meet or just mull over things (and wonder why people going past don't stop and try it out...)

Popped in for breakfast this morning whilst in town shopping. Had the full breakfast which was amazing cooked freshly as well unlike some places I've been great portion sizes as well manager was very accomadating as well very pleasant and very Attentive as well thank you will be back very soon

So glad Nine Yards is just around the corner from my office. Whenever I need coffee or cake I come straight here! Always really friendly service, bit of banter and of course quality food and nice strong coffee. Has a good chilled atmosphere, so good for that lunch time coffee. If available I'd also highly recommend the choc chip shortbread/granola slice!

We went for breakfast yesterday at Nineyards, the man behind the counter was stressed and had already stated that he had turned customers away as the chef had not turned up for the second day on the row, leaving him for the only staff member. The owner was opening a new restaurant around the corner ... I think the owner/manager should focus on Nineyards and getting the correct number of staff before working on another project. It's not good for customers when your made to feel anxious because the staff are stressed! As it was breakfast arrived and it was ok considering there was no chef! Nice atmosphere. Get more staff!

Great coffee and perfectly poached eggs but dirty cutlery (twice) and strange attitude from one member of staff when my partner was overcharged - he was told to come back next week for a refund! In the end he refunded my parter 'out of his own pocket' - sorry but your mistake not ours!! Whatever the policy is the attitude was just bad.

It's a pity that no one from the Nine Yards Company has commented and given a reason for the cold meal that was experienced by myself and previous customer - surely this is the least that could have been done. To get confidences back for other potential customers, I'm sure they would want to hear that this was purely a mistake on the chef's part and that he/she knows what went wrong so he can correct it next time. I for one won't go there until it's seems to have been resolved.

We were in Cardiff town for a Carol Service and decided to have a drink at Nine Yards as it was the quietest place in the area, before going on for a meal elsewhere, prior to the Service. We had a good welcome from the waitress, only two other ladies were in restaurant and it was quiet and relaxing. Whilst we were there, rather than go on to where we had already booked a table, we cancelled it to have a meal at your restaurant. However, this was a mistake as it went downhill from thereon. he bar filled up quickly so We all ordered lasagne and the waitress informed us that they only had one portion available and as the other three would be made fresh, there would be at least 15 minutes to wait which we agreed to. In the meantime, We ordered another bottle of red wine.The first Two meals were served and then a few moments later two more meals arrived. We found that three of these meals were hot on the top layer but cold throughout the rest. Only One meal was piping hot.We found this very strange that going back to what the waitress said about waiting for fresh meals, made us think that these were just taken from the deep freeze and heated up – but not properly heated up – or checked! We sent three meals back with the waiter who served them and explained the reason why.

My son introduced us to thus place for a lunchtime meet up. Food is great. I always house the special which is excellent value. The small staff team are friendly and accommodating. Worth a try !!

This place is appealing from the outside, with tables outside. This is in a prime location in the city centre. The cafe is very cold and dark due to the decor inside. The prices are not justified by the ambience of the establishment. I would not return as there are far better choices locally.

Really friendly, nice atmosphere and decor. The food is just so nice, a spin on a cooked breakfast with top quality spied sausage, pancetta ham. Plenty of veggie options too.

We found Nine Yards at High St Arcade on Sunday while searching for brunch after watching two family members start the Cardiff Half Marathon. Being out of towners, we had no idea where would be good and on the outside this place looked fine.

Terrible customer service. I was the second person in the queue and waiting while the lady in front was being served. I was not acknowledged at all upon entering the shop. The lady in front waited patiently for her two coffees and then simply asked for a cup holder in which the girl serving looked bemused that a cup holder had been requested. Barely two words were spoken. In the time I waited, three people had joined the queue and left again (I assume due to the lack of acknowledgement from any member of staff and the pace at which they were working- absolutely no sense of urgency at all). I finally was asked what I would like (no apology for the delay or even a smile...) eventually received coffees and cake... price wasn’t great but have happily paid that elsewhere and not minded as the customer service elsewhere is much better. Upon leaving the store my partner said “goodbye” to the male member of staff in which he simply looked up and ignored my partner. Nice.

Working across the road I have always been interested in trying the gluten free pancakes and waffles.

Visited Saturday 22 Sept, a filthy night, cold, wet & windy night. Front door was wide open to attract business. Bar virtually the only empty place on St Mary Street, probably because it was also bitterly cold INSIDE. No evidence of any heating at all. Had to sit right at the back to get out of the cold draft coming in the door. Totally unacceptable for a night out. This is the 21st century, not the 18th! Will certainly NOT be returning, despite the obliging staff. Red wine was drinkable. Am amazed that it was actually open for business at all.

Called in to Nine Yards for a late coffee and cake on 15.09.2018 and it was ok. Very quiet for a Saturday night but there was a nice chilled atmosphere to relax in and enjoy the feel of little Italy with a lovely coffee and some nice, Italian patisserie

Had the most amazing breakfast at Nine Yards this morning. A great combination of english and Italian flavours. Great service - really welcoming and friendly.

Found this little gem today while looking for an eating place. Warm welcome from young girl on counter who took order for three cheese toasted sandwich and hot drink, for 5 pounds. Served quickly, on wooden platter with side salad and relish.

Visited for breakfast & we were left very disappointed. I got scrambled egg on toast which cost £4 to be met with a small slice of toast with a small amount of egg. Very stingy portions for what you pay.

At 7.30 pm dropped in for coffee. Service was excellent, coffee marvellous and also had sugar and lemon pancakes which were absolutely delicious. Will visit on a regular basis.

Da wir während unseres Cardiff-Aufenthaltes immer außerhalb des Hotels frühstückten, landeten wir an einem Morgen im Nine Yards. Dieses befindet sich zentral in der Innenstadt und machte einen angenehmen Eindruck. Dies bestätigte sich auch nach dem Eintreten, da die Bedienung freundlich und die Frühstücksauswahl umfangreich war. Wir entschieden uns für Porridge bzw. Rührei auf Toast, dazu Latte bzw. Cappuccino. Alles wurde frisch zubereitet und schmeckte sehr gut. Der Preis war in Ordnung, von daher keine Klagen und bedenkenlos zu empfehlen.

I'm lucky enough to have Nine Yards just 20metres from my office. Over the last couple of years I've sat inside and out for business meetings, friend dates, real dates, family lunches; I regularly take away coffee and can rarely resist their cakes. I'm half Italian so I feel really at home when I get to have a cannoli in the middle of the day :).

Came to this cafe whilst looking for a breakfast and were not disappointed. The food was fantastic, as were the coffees. You can sit outside on tall chairs and it is a great spot for people watching. So glad we found it and will definitely return.

A warm evening with time to kill, I was tempted by the display of pastries on display. Having extended my selection by far too many, I sat on the tables outside and chatted to a Czech football team, that were passing around the vodka and getting ready for a night on the town by washing themselves in some of the most toxic aftershave (It may have been inflammable)... anyhow, I needed a drink, so asked if they served a non-alcoholic cocktail... they didn't, but he's make me one.

We visited this cafe twice during our mini-stay in Cardiff: once late at night for coffee and then the following morning for breakfast. Friendly service and tasty food. However, the toilets were of a dreadful standard, the worst I’ve seen, unusable in fact.

Very pleasant greeting and informative owner and staff. Good choice of food for our lunchtime visit, all home made by Italians. Some interesting food choices puts this restaurant in a different league to the regular chain type eateries. Food service was well presented and tasty, with coffees to follow. (We just had to have a small Italian sweet to go with the coffee).
