Quick service at a very busy time. Had hamburgers and fries that were much like home (America). A great place for a quick lunch while on the Royal Mile

The food was average, the service was slow but the place is pretty with a lot of selections. I asked for a change in the liquor in my drink and was told no…. I would think the only reason not to allow a substitution would be a premixed drink. Will research for our next meal!

We went to Nicholson's in Haymarket for a nice dinner after a busy day, hoping for good quality, comforting food in a cosy setting. However, the service and food was unsatisfactory. We were waiting ages for the waiting staff to take our orders, and then there was a very long wait for our food also. The food choices were very limited, and although it was a busy Saturday night, the choice was very restricted, a lot of choices were not available when we asked. Also, there were only a few gluten-free options, almost every meal contained wheat. The food that came was fine, but portion size aswell as taste could've been much better. One other thing I must mention is how our portion of fries came to us long after we had finished our meals. I regret to write such a negative review, but our experience wasn't worth the price.

We stopped in for a drink outside and were able to snag a table inside for dinner. Nicholson's is known for their savory pies, and they did not disappoint. As a vegetarian, I loved the lentil and veggie cottage pie (vegan), accompanied by beautiful roasted carrots; my husband, a meat-eater, enjoyed his traditional choice as well. Our daughter, also a vegetarian, ordered the baked macaroni & cheese, and liked it a lot. Highly recommended if you're in Edinburgh!

Really good pub food We had the British steak & Nicholsons Palle ale pie and it was really good and the gravet was to die for. The third party of our familie got the fish and shinps and it was equally satisfactory Worth a visit Enhoy

A quintessential pub with a vibrant menu. The savory pies (with plenty of inspired vegetarian-friendly options!) satisfy any itch for comfort food, especially on a chilly fall evening, and for your own sake, don’t skip dessert (the caramel biscuit torte pairs beautifully with a neat Ardbeg pour). If you really want to chat Scotch, look for Ashley behind the bar. In addition to just being a lovely human that elevates the pub experience, she knows her stuff when it comes to Scotch and will gladly make a recommendation for your palette or share your enthusiasm for whatever you’re ordering.

My friends and I were looking for a nice pub for lunch and a drink. One pub close to Nicholson's did not serve food but recommended Nicholson's. All four of us had the Salmon cakes and a 1/2 pint of hard cider. It couldn't have been better. The food was delicious and the atmosphere perfect. It was our last day in Edinburgh and will always be a fond memory.

Good food, good drinks, nice atmosphere, however service was lacking. The waitress didn’t have any customer service skills at all. And then they added 10% service fee onto the bill which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu and certainly wasn’t warranted by the level of service from the waitress on July 27th. Pity, as it spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience

Visited for one drink only. Did not have a lot of drink available due to King Charles visit at St Giles’s. Reason we only stayed for one. Service was good and place was not too busy.

The food was pretty good, and a traditional Pub experience was had. We dined early, and a bartender just told us to pick a table. Ordered at the bar and our meal was delivered to our table. Not a traditional dining experience that we were used to, which was OK, as tourists to this town.

Servicio excelente con la mejor cerveza de la zona. Es la primera vez que visito Escocia y después de 3 días aquí estaba muy decepcionada de las cervezas nacionales, muy suaves y con poco sabor. Al llegar a este lugar pregunté por la cerveza más fuerte y con sabor que he probado por esta zona. El Landlord’s Platter muy rico con auténticos pimientos de Padrón y chorizos. En fin todo EXCELENTE!!

Abbiamo cenato li la nostra ultima sera ad Edimburgo. Locale molto carino, personale gentile e simpatico ottimo cibo tipico. Unica nota stonata: 90 euro in due per due steak and ale pies, due fette di christmas pudding e due bicchieri di vino forse è un pò troppo.

I walked in, kids everywhere, none eating. Ordered drinks (£18), kids standing beside me. Sat down then staff came up and threw us out, no kids. £18, 2 sips, why even serve us?

Patatine perfette, leggermente croccati fuori e morbide all'interno. I miei figli di 10 e 13 anni, non amanti del pesce, ne erano entusiasti. Noi ci torneremo sicuramente. Lo consiglio.

Wandering around we chose this restaurant and am very glad we did. Nice small place in a great location. My Haggis starter was my first ever haggis and I loved it. Very nicely presented and served hot. The Crofter’s Pie with pulled lamb was fantastic. Great drink selection too. Highly recommended.

Made us welcome with our dog on a snowy winter day for some hearty warming grub. This place doesn’t advertise that’s it’s PET FRIENDLY but it very is! Lovely staff who were very welcoming brought a bowl of water for our dog. Yummy food, Scottish themed menu and sensible prices.

We had a good meal and great service. Close to a lot of attractions and our hotel. Ok price and we got what we expected. Our party of 6 adults had all different dishes but all of us where happy.

Good selections of beers and spirits. Nice menu with good variety, fairly priced. We had Stovies, Balmoral Chicken stuffed with haggis, and the pie trio. Convenient location - give it a try!

We stopped in for a quick bite....the best food we had at pubs in Edinburgh....fantastic meat pie and fish pie (3 types of fish, one Smokey...very yummy!) We got tremendous service and enjoyed our meal immensely. We strongly recommend this place for food or drinks.

Beer is good but if they've got a tour group in you won't get fed. But frustrating that head office don't communicate this in any way. Turned up with a discount voucher only to find that only the big group were being served and the kitchen was otherwise closed!

Bien situé dans le West-end et notre Hôtel, plat bien préparé qui était un Fish & Ships avec des chips dorées et croquantes alors que dans d'autres restaurants Anglais celle-ci sont la plupart du temps molles (réchauffés) et sans goût. Ambiance Pub et cadre convivial, prix un peu plus cher, beaucoup d'affluence donc un service un peu long. A refaire lors d'un prochain retour à Édimbourg.

Je n'irais pas jusqu'à dire que la nourriture est mauvaise, mais c'est clairement un attrape touriste. Si vous recherchez un repas typique écossais et de la bonne cuisine, passez votre chemin. En effet, on vous serre des repas préablement préparés (haricots surgelés et desserts arrivés en moins de cinq minutes) et ce ne sont pas des produits frais, loin de la ! Cher pour ce que c'est en plus, ma canette de bière m'a coûté plus chère qu'un verre de whiskey...

After having put down our names on the waiting list we had drinks at the bar, our table was ready quickly and we were seated in a cosy booth.

Pub vicino al nostro albergo, scoperto per caso… Locale carino all’interno, tipico pub scozzese. Come però ogni Pab, il suo forte non è il cibo… Senza infamia e senza lode... Non ci tornerei anche se lo staff è stato molto carino e sorridente.

Nachos to start. Clearly microwaved but edible. They just work better if put in the oven. Beef stovies for the main course was really good. Service was good as it was extremely busy. I would definitely revisit if in the area again.

Hier gegeten met 6 personen. Een bedienster was erg matig. We kregen het eten niet tegelijkertijd, zat wel ruim 5 minuten tussen. We hoefden geen dessert, direct daarna kregen we ongevraagd de rekening. Dit kwam over alsof we niet gewenst waren en is zeer onvriendelijk om de rekening te presenteren zonder dat dat gevraagd is. Eten an sich was best prima. Maar de service is echt heel slecht, en dat terwijl de service erin berekend is op de eindrekening, circa 13 pond. Dat was de service niet waard...

It on rose street. We had our first lunch there just after arriving to Edinburgh. The place was chosen after advice of a friend. Meal were moderate, but the price was not. I would not go there have a dinner again.

After touring the castle we dropped into this establishment for a drink and a bite. Chose the nachos. Small amount but that was fine for us. Service was ok. You order your food and drinks at the bar. The bartender was friendly and let me sample a couple of beers before I chose one. Good place to go.

Local agradável, com comida típica e bebidas. Atendimento simpático e ágil. Muito bem localizado e de fácil acesso. Recomendo e voltaria ao local.

I ended up here after taking a tour. I had about a 20 minute wait for a table. There is a pub downstairs, but to eat you have to go upstairs. i do not think they take reservations. A few people did not want to wait, but I just relaxed and chatted with the others waiting. for being crowded, the service was good and friendly. I had the fish and chips, which also come with mushed peas. My plate was empty at the end. And this is a serious slab of fish, not some sad little thing.

Lovely staff and great food. They have more potential customers than available tables so many people were turned away while we were there. Spoilt for choice with the menu and the food was hot and tasty.

Fun pub to visit. Very cute inside. Staff is nice. They are known for there meat pies and they were good.

Stopped in here for dinner December 2018, the place was busy but we found a table upstairs near the bar and the toilet... no attention from waiting staff so walked over to the bar to order our drinks and food (we both had burgers). The burgers were huge, but terrible, tasted like they had been frozen, couldn't even finish them (despite being hungry!). The table was dirty from the customers before us, nobody bothered to clean it or remove the empty glasses. Would not recommend eating here unless it's a life and death situation....

The pub has an old charm and plenty of character about it. Be warned – it gets packed later on with locals and visitors. The bar area is at the front of the pub and dining at the very back, so you are kept separate and can talk, but later on when the bar is full it may well be very noisy.

Called in today for a light bite lunch. Ordered the drinks and sandwich with fries. Sandwiches came out with Luke warm fries. Took them back and complained to the waitress who didn’t fully understand my English. So I just said cold, need to be hot. She brought some new fries to us slamming them on the table (not sure how some didn’t spill out with the slamming she used), and turned and left us. No apology no nothing. Deffo not the Scottish service we had become used to. Will not use this place again whilst on holiday and will tell our friends to avoid this place. And we do have friends who live in this city! Very disappointed.

This was close to our hotel so it worked well for us. It's a nice little pub to have a beer in and watch all the activity out the window at the intersection. The staff was great. We had a very nice dinner there. They were out of a couple of the selections that we wanted, but it was the end of the evening. I had the fish and chips and it was good. The place started to fill up around 5 pm and it was standing room only in there, so it must be a favorite of the locals. They had a local brewery there sampling some of the Scottish beers. We found the beers tasted a bit weak compared to craft beers in the Pacific Northwest. However, a gin and tonic hit the spot, too!

Mentre passeggiamo sul Royal Mile avvistiamo questo locale.. caratteristico pub al piano terra, al primo piano troviamo una sala molto raccolta, con un atmosfera molto intima e accogliente addobbata x le festività natalizie. Servizio veloce giovane e preparato. Abbiamo mangiato un classico hamburgher con patatine molto buono. Prezzo nella media.ci torneremo

The pub is good atmosphere although a little pricey. It gets busy with locals. Actually ate here twice and lived to regret it. First time had fish and chips. It was OK but not that crispy crunch like the oil in the fryer was under temperature. Went back a second time and my wife had grilled lamb chops which were OK. I tried to order Coulters Pie (with pulled lamb) and it was off so I ordered the fish sharing platter. The calamari were like crisps and fish cakes were hard as rocks. They were apparently cooked previously then dropped in fryer to reheat. THIS SHOULD NEVER BE DONE. I ate them because I was hungry and not going to wait for replacement besides the wait staff had disappeared. When I asked for bill I told waiter about the reheat of fish cakes and calamari and let cook or manager know this should not be done. I never got an apology. I mentioned to another waiter and got ignored. I did not want any money back since I ate the stuff but I expected some acknowledgement. I got none. I would recommend any one who wants food to go to the Mercat Bar across the street.

We stopped in for drinks. The drinks were a little high in price but service was excellant and it's a cozy place with character.

General “pub grub” a bit on the pricey side. Offer speciality pies which change daily. Booking recommended especially during festival and Christmas time.

Waitresses ignored us and one played with her hair for a long while as I sat with an empty glass. Burgers were terrible. Not only did they come out of a box, they were chargrilled and came out like hockey pucks. Took forever to get a beer. Place wasn’t that big and they had 3 waitresses. I get it, this is a tourist trap but what a disappointment. McDonalds would have been much better!

Waited 40 minutes to be served. Service was very poor. Ordered the fish and chips and the nachos. The fish came out undercooked and the nachos were stale. Bad service, bad food. Shame you can’t give a 0 rating.

We went there to have dinner looking for something hot, since it was cold outside. We decided to try the vegetable broth and we loved it! We also tried the chicken pie and it was also delicious.

After visiting the Castle, we stumbled across what seemed to be a nice restaurant and bar. We were WRONG! It started with waitress arguing with me whether or not the alcoholic cider I ordered was for me or for my 15 yo daughter (the waitress won and it seems that we were not trustworthy enough in her eyes). We’ve waited about 25 mins after ordering for the first courses. Then we waited another 40 mins for the main courses. I ordered a Niçoise salad which turned out to be a fried salmon drenched in oil over a few leafs, a couple of small plum tomatoes, a few potatoes, and egg - all drenched in oil. To name this Nicoise is an insult to the the famous salad. It was more of an oil salad with salmon a a few vegetables. It was disgusting.

We stopped in for drinks and a number of the outside tables were occupied with people with no food or drinks. They were obviously waiting for people coming off trains and then they didn't even stay. It is the people's fault but it needs to be better managed so paying customers can benefit from the facilities.

We stopped here for a drink (and to try haggis) when we first arrived in Scotland. This is a very busy and lively place with many beer (and gin) selections. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and welcoming. The haggis was yummy.

Pub typique, très proche du château. Les plats traditionnels sont copieux et très bons. Haggis et fish and chips excellents. Bonnes bières évidemment.

We had drank in this bar several times during our stay but just for drinks. The bar has a friendly relaxed atmosphere and the drinks are reasonably priced. On our last night in the city we ate here and were not disappointed. We ordered the large fish and chips which was only £2 extra and could not believe the size of the portions. We were given two large battered fish with chips and a pea puree with a side portion of tartar sauce. We all struggled to finish the food on our plates which was delicious and plentiful. If your wanting a pub with a relaxed friendly atmosphere, which serves good pub grub at a reasonable price then I would recommend The Mitre Public House (Nicholson’s).

Arrivés un peu après midi à Edimbourg, nous avions une petite faim et sommes allés dans ce pub à proximité de notre hotel.

Paramos por casualidad y después de ver el menú decidimos entrar a comer, y de los pocos restaurantes que visitamos resultó el mejor relación calidad/precio. Recomiendo ampliamente el slow-cooked steak, amber ale & mushroom pie. Un lugar obligado para una buena comida.

Enjoyed the interactions with the wait staff - very pleasant and helpful. Nice selection of beer and cider. The fish and chips were very good - crisp not soggy and the tatar sause was nicely spiced. The smoked applewood macaroni and cheese warranted a second visit. The Innis and Gunn ale hit the spot after a day of sightseeing. The Hawkes 'urban Orchard cider was very good as well. Convenient to the Haymarket train station.

A bit late for lunch (14:30), but still very busy. First sign of a well made choice. And indeed it was worth waiting. Friendly employees, took their time for making a family picture. Although it was very busy at the time, it didn't take long for our lunch to be served.

I had a chicken and avocado sandwich and it was good! Very nice place and good location, friendly staff and reasonable prices, I enjoyed it!

The Nicholson's pub at greyfriars Bobby is a wonderful pub restaurant, the pie menu although bought in they are delightful and delicious. We also tried a Scottish favourite called a 'cranachan' I would 100% recommend this after a hearty pie! The drinks

Il locale vecchio stile pub inglese .....sotto , poi vai al primo piano e nemmeno 20 tavoli per assaggiare poche ricette ma veramente buone e classiche tipo il fish and chips addirittura in più versioni , salse molto buone , porzioni abbondanti e prezzi nella media .

Nos tomamos unas pintas de Guinness y una cerveza escocesa llamada Hollyrood que estaba estupenda! Son chicos muy serviciales y atentos. Gente muy simpática. Precios asequibles aquí en Edimburgo. RECOMIENDO

En descendant du Château nous avions envi d’une petite pause dans un vrai pub. Malheureusement avec un enfant en bas âge, pas possible de rester en bas pour boire une bière nous donc dû aller à l’étage dans la partie restaurant. Heureusement que nous n’avions pas de poussette ce jour là...

We were lucky to find Nicholson's on a stroll down an alley way while searching for a dinner restaurant after going to Edinburgh Dungeon. I am SO glad we went as far down the alley as we did, or we would not have found Nicholson's! This spot is an absolute GEM and should be showcased for its excellent food and great beer selection.

This bar/restaurant is right across the Royal Mile from the Raddison Blu. The first time we ate here was for the convenience - that was not the case for the second and third time we went there. There aren't many tables where you can have dinner but somehow we managed to get a table without much of a wait. Wait staff is quick, knowledgeable and very friendly. Had lamb, steak, salmon - all very good. I had my favorite dessert their as well - cannot remember the name but I do have a picture. Honey, raspberries and cream!

Very good food, we ordered the grilled Nicholson’s special, as you can see by the picture, that’s all we got to show. For 18,5£ for two.

I knew I wanted a drink and a dessert, so I ordered a lighter fare dinner. I got the lentil cottage pie and my husband got the Nicholson’s burger. His burger was huge and super yummy, my cottage pie was very good, but some of the lentils were undercooked. The flavors were very good, though.
