Walked from Keswick centre to Nichol End Marina. A lovely walk but was glad when I arrived at the marina cafe. Roger (jolly Roger) welcomed me in and was so helpful and friendly. It was quiet as the season is coming to an end. I had an oat milk coffee and a raisin sticky toffee scone. It was so big! Put half in a bag to take home. Plenty of choice of scones all fresh and looking delicious. Prices were so reasonable. Roger then gave me a ride in his boat across Derwent Water. He’s such a nice man. It made my day to find a gem of a place. Would def recommend if in the area. Will return and try out the boating/canoeing etc next year.

We walked round from Keswick to Nichol End to have a pizza for lunch only to find that the kitchen has been closed since lockdown. However we did have a couple of their stupendous scones instead. They were very generous and and the service was very friendly. They have been badly affected by the fact that the launches haven't stopped there for 3 years which seems a real shame.

Went at dinner time to find they only do cake and drinks, so had cheese and fruit scones the cheese tasted quite nice but the texture was really heavy and stodgy, the fruit was slightly better but still not right. The other reviews praise there scones so perhaps we just unlucky but very disappointing especially for the price.

I'm reviewing two aspects, the cafe and the paddleboarding session. I booked a 1.5 hour paddleboarding session for my husband and myself, it's something I've always wanted to try. What can I say except it was just fantastic. Lovely helpful staff from start to finish, they gave us tips and answered all of our questions before we began, as an unfit 51 year old, I really didn't expect to do well, I even braved standing up and once my jelly legs firmed up, I really enjoyed being out on the water, did I fall in? hell yeah, could I get back on the board, nope! Had to swim to shallower water, but boy it was just so much fun, could have easily stayed on for longer, we were both actually sad when it ended. Such great value too £20 each for 1.5hrs including wet suit and parking permit. We will both be back in the future. We also stopped off in the cafe beforehand as we were very early. We were met with the most bubbly and friendliest girl we have ever met, she was lovely, she had plats and red ribbons in her her, which we had asked her name, she said she was the messiest waitress ever, such a credit to the company, I hope she sees this, she obviously loves her job. We shared the biggest scone ever. I had a huge pot of tea and my husband described his flat white as the best he's ever drank, complains that they normally go cold too quick, he also loved the scone. We are lucky that we only live in Carlisle so we be visiting again. Thank you for a perfect experience.

Natasha responded to my enquiry very quickly and out of hours. James and another lady sorry forgot your name ( 1st day at work) were really helpful getting us sorted with wetsuits etc. It was a very windy day so James gave extra instructions on where the best places to avoid the wind would be. Good advice to stay in your groups as one of our group capsized and needed help from the rest of the group. Roger was out on the lake looking after another party. Our 2nd time here and we'll be back again next year. Scones and coffee afterwards a welcome treat.

We stopped here on a walk around Derwentwater, what a lovely little cafe this was. Served by the nicest young man. The scones must be legendary ~ so light, fresh, huge and absolutely delicious. Choice of scones (plain, fruit, cherry and cheese) had a choice of jam too, served with a cake fork which was a really nice touch. Pot of tea came with a pot of hot water. We could not fault this little cafe. We sat outside in covid secure seating area with lovely views over Derwentwater. Clean toilets too. Excellent!

We booked online the day before visiting and the process was very easy. We parked near Keswick and walked along the Cumbrian way to get there. On arrival we had a great welcome, they checked us in and showed us where to go. We had a double canoe so didn’t need wetsuits but these were provided where needed, as were life vests. We were given an overview of the boat and where we could moor along the lake if we wanted to and set off. It was a great experience and on arriving back there was a changing area to get out of wet clothes. I just wish I was staying closer to the lake as I would have definitely returned.

We visited as we past through as taking part in the water sport section. As we were all wearing our wet suits ready and unable to wear exception lanyard due to safety, we were immediately challenged as to why we were not wearing a mask (myself, son and daughter who are under 12). My medical records are no ones business. Furthermore, it is no longer a legal requirement. It has taken a long time to feel comfortable enough to get out there and support our economy; to be welcomed with this aggression. If I matched you in stature, I wonder if you would have spoken to me in such an aggressive manner. I didn’t really want to enter your cafe, the signage is unclear and I entered following the sign to ‘bookings this way’. If I would have known that I didn’t need to come in, I wouldn’t have! Thank you large cafe man for ruining our day out. Avoid! If you prefer a friendlier welcome, with staff ready to support you and your family’s needs, visit Derwentwater marina. You get a much more positive experience.

As a family of three, including a teenage boy, we hired three paddle boards. Included in the price was the hire of the wetsuit & buoyancy aid. The wet suits looked as if they had seen better days, but once out on the water you didn’t notice and they did what they needed to do. We paid extra for a changing tent, but the price was minimal. There is a car park opposite the lane leading to the lake. We got there early, 10am, so got parked no problem, however by the time we left it was full and the area very congested. There are toilets on site. We had great fun on the paddle boards and would certainly use this place again.

After a day's canoeing we visited this cafe on the recommendation of our guide and I'm so glad we did. You are unlikely to stumble across this place given you need to park on the main road and walk down to the cafe. The walk down doesn't fill you with confidence however you need to remember it is a marine business! Once you arrive at the lake you will be impressed. The cafe is very reasonably priced with plenty of choice. The view from the outside tables and viewing area is fantastic and you can watch everyone on the water. We have excellent weather which really made a difference as there was plenty activity to watch with padel boarders, canoeing and open water swimming. Would really recommend. If having the cream tea, one between two will be sufficient. As my grandmother used to say you can choke a horse with the size of the portions!

We were at the end of our walk. It was about 1.30 p.m. and the missus wanted a coffee and cake. Me I don't want cake but proper cooked food. The missus popped her head in the door of the cafe and I had a look and immediately said no. Nobody in there, bare formica tables and only a cake display. We were walking away when a man spotted us and went on about his world class scones and when I said i wanted something more he went on about his world class soups, pizzas and other food. Well after the amusing sales pitch we couldn't say no (could we)?! Anyway they do a great offer of soup, bacon baguette and coffee for £9.50 (me) and soup, baguette, scone and coffee for the same price (missus). Because he had dragged us in he persuaded me to have complimentary egg on my bacon and three eggs duly arrived (the baguettes are large). Bowls of soup were large and delicious (nearly as good as mine)! Scones huge (doggy box was required). Coffee excellent. Trouble is that you don't realise what this place sells from the outside and we told him that they should make it more visible. We have walked past here loads of times and yes it isn't the most luxurious place but the food is great and great value and the views unsurpassed.

The reason to visit Nichol End Marina is for its water sports - although it does have an adjoining cafe. Taken groups of primary school aged children out a few times from here and the instructors they provided were excellent. The kids had a brilliant time - there were complete novices and those who had kayaked before. Wetsuits and buoyancy aids were provided and the kayaks are a simpler style that means you don't have to be 'trapped' in with a skirt (I think that's what they call it!). They need to be able to roll the kayak before they can do that, apparently. The kids loved it - which is a success in my book!

Every time we visit the Northern Lakes we visit Nichol End Marine cafe. I have to say if you like proper hearty, top quality nosh, please visit this place it is superb. Rodger is a mint bloke and local crisp expert. Scones, soup and pizza are out of this world. Service is excellent and prices are very reasonable too. Do yourself a favour and go. You will not be disappointed....

We come here every time we visit the lakes. In fact the scones at the nichol end marine cafe are the main reason my wife comes to the lakes. Special thanks this year to Roger for the baking tips and the bespoke scone cutter!

We called in mid walk for a lovely bowl of homemade soup with a large warm crusty baguette. Choice of 3 soups on this visit, chicken & veg, mushroom & tomato, we had the last 2. Staff are friendly & nice place to bird watch

Lunch here was fabulous. We had the soup special, home made soup, baguette, and wonderful lemon drizzle cake. We found the staff very helpful and friendly. A lovely warm place to eat on a damp day. As the Derwent Water launch was unable to dock, we were taken over to Keswick in the dinghy. When we wanted to return, we just phoned over and they came to collect us. We would recommend the cafe and will certainly visit again.

We visit this pub all the time and I thought it was due a review! What an amazing place. Food is good honest pub grub with Specials. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is always good with locals and walkers - good craic. Almost forgot the real ale which is always being changed. Proper village pub at the heart of the community with an amazing landlady !

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!
