Niche Patisserie in Shropshire

Myself and 2 of my friends decided to take a trip to the black gate in Oswestry after reading the great reviews for niche patisserie who are based there. What a fabulous old building with so much character. It was busy as expected that time of day but we were welcomed by a lovely lady called sam who showed us to our table.We put our order in and we're served a gorgeous capuchino coffee,a really scrumptious hot chocolate and orange and for me I chose a cherry and rhubarb tea.Then we threw diets etc completely out the window and treated ourselves to an apricot Danish a niche strawberry jam and white chocolate croissant and a new one on the scene the lady sam said to try ,a rhubarb and custard cruffin. Well we just had to try each other's (like you do!) absolute heaven!! This is somewhere we are definitely coming back to.Weve got to try all those gorgeous pastries and croissants and we haven't even started on the lunch menu!!And wait for it they do afternoon teas.Proper ones with all the trimmings wow .We also found out the Baker who makes all these goodies does classes on bread making and pastry . Oooh should we? All in all we had a fabulous time served by attentive smiling staff who couldn't do enough for us.We even went mad and bought a selection of dressings 2 strawberry jams, cookies and niches special fudge yummy 😋 on our way out.

Spoilt for choice with such a fabulous selection of cakes and pastries. Friendly service from Sam and her team and we could see Adam busy baking in the kitchen. We opted for coffees and some croissants to enjoy, but then I couldn’t resist buying some Sourdough to take home. We’ll be returning for Afternoon tea very soon.

High-quality, handcrafted pastries, beautiful presentation, an exceptional experience. Delicious flavours within each beautiful creation. A wonderful independent family business. Attentive service provided by the amazing staff.

I was initially thrilled to try this bakery, given its stellar reputation. However, my enthusiasm was short-lived. The staff's demeanor was unexpectedly frosty, which made me hesitant to linger. I opted to take a selection of pastries to go, including croissants, monkey bread, and a cruffin. Regrettably, each item was exceedingly dry, which was a major letdown. I'm unsure whether the pastries were leftover from the previous day or if they contained an overabundance of additives, but something was decidedly off. As a self-proclaimed aficionado of artisanal pastries, I was genuinely disappointed that my experience failed to meet the hype. Perhaps it was simply an off day?

Food was incredible , chef delicious. Such a lovely talented man. But his mother was rude and very unwelcoming both times we have been in!!! It’s now completely put us all off from going in. Both times it wasn’t busy so no excuses for painfully slow, completely disinterested service. Such a shame . We spent a small fortune but still treated with little respect . Won’t be returning a 3rd time

Having visited the Niche before, and enjoyed the exquisite food, we were looking forward to repeating the experience and buying some bread. Instead, having travelled for an hour, we arrived at 0930 today, and found it shut. It was still shut at 1230, so we bought our bread from M&S and went home. We won’t make that mistake again.

Attended for an afternoon tea yesterday. We were recommended this by my friend. It did not disappoint - cakes were beautiful and to a high quality. In fact, all food and drinks were! We even brought some croissants to take home for family, as they looked divine. The only thing was that we attended on quite a cold day and were put upstairs, which was completely fine but the heating wasn't on, and as it is a very old building, we felt quite cold. This was the only thing that stopped me from rating it a 5. Overall, I would highly recommend.

I have been here a couple of times now with my daughters and absolutely love the place. Fantastic pastries, cakes and coffees, with superb sourdough to take away. As big fans of caramel shortbread, we have jointly agreed "this is the best caramel shortbread we've ever had" - high accolade considering how many we've sampled over the years from around the UK. Amazing pastries, beautiful setting. I just need to somehow find availability for the afternoon tea! Great to see a local business succeeding in Oswestry.

Niche has beautiful food in a beautiful setting. I sampled a Victoria sponge slice and a Millionaire’s slice which were both lovely. My son had a nice hot chocolate in a lovely glass mug and I had a nice Cappuccino. I will be visiting again to sample the croissants which looked the nicest I have ever seen.

We popped in for a few croissants before doing some exploring one morning and really enjoyed it. Spoiled for choice with the lovely pastries and cakes - really tasty. Staff also really lovely and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit if you can.

Drinks are fabulous and service is excellent and it’s just a lovely place to come and sit for a beautiful coffee and maybe something very naughty but very Niche

My wife bought me an afternoon tea here. We hadn’t visited Oswestry before so didn’t know what to expect and my expectations were blown away. Greeted and seated by a pleasant girl who was very polite and informative about everything that Niche offered on our afternoon tea tray. She told us exactly what the fillings etc were on the tray when it was gently placed on our table which made our taste buds wait in anticipation for when we were ready to start. We were both hungry when we arrived so we were slightly excited and pleased when the tray was brought to our table after a sip of tea and coffee whilst the very short wait for preparation of our food. Well to say we really enjoyed the very well presented and tasty food was an under estimate. Locally sourced produce, you can’t beat it! Thank you for time and effort for our experience and the negative comments against your business are unfounded! Keep it up and another gem of a place to visit if your in the area.

Brilliant find...food was so wonderful I ended up having two cakes and a sausage roll. The sausage roll came with a bit of salad that had the most wonderful dressing on it. It was 8.30am and we accidently came across this place not knowing what we had found and we were absolutely delighted with the food and the service. Such a shame we don't live closer as both my uncle and myself would come back time and again. P.S. the hot chocolate was the best we had tasted and was service in very large cups !!

Coffee and pastry good . Each time we visit , the service disappoints. Never a smile or a welcome indeed we won't be going again because of the dire service.

D’ter bought this for us and what a super present. Lovely sandwiches with a very different slant to the afternoon Tea. Delicious sausage rolls and quiche!! The cakes and scones were sublime with home made jam and local cream. So pleased I asked about courses as now booked into one for Jan. Really recommend a visit

The ham hock pie looked delicious but there was no filling: there was a hollow space with just 2 tiny pieces of ham buried in the pastry base. My complaint was rudely ignored as apparently it comes like that.

Wow just experience a delightful beef bolognese Danish pastry, so intense and full of flavour with a beautiful americano coffee in a relaxed and peaceful setting, thank you.

We had a superb afternoon tea in a relaxed atmosphere, with attentive and friendly service. Would definitely recommend.

Little Gem at the Black Gate. Food lovely, reasonably priced but served with a smile. The lady owner was so lovely.

Three of us had afternoon tea to celebrate a friends upcoming wedding - absolutely stunning cakes looked too good to eat - so much food we all had a goody bag ! Local produce used too . Nice to see the kitchen open and the cakes being made. Highly recommend for a special occasion

Very accommodating. I'd booked afternoon tea for my husband and myself but he's managed to hurt his back and wouldn't be able to sit at a table. They were very accommodating and allowed me to take the afternoon tea as a takeaway Everything was delicious and there was plenty to eat. In fact too much, we've saved one of the pastries for later!

Had some really nice croissants and coffee for breakfast. Food was amazing and service was so friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit!

My boyfriend bought me a buy a gift voucher for my 30th and I booked the Niche Patisserie to enjoy Afternoon Tea with my Mom. The service was excellent, Samantha was very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Once the food started arriving she explained exactly what was in each savoury/cake etc. The food was 10/10. The cakes especially were amazing and so tasty. We will definitely return.

Have wanted to visit for a while so decided to call for coffee/cake. Friendly staff on arrival, decided on baileys cake bar - it was beautiful to look at but tasted even better. Opted for a cheese and ham croissant too and it was delicious. Decided on croissants to take home - strawberry and white chocolate, dulce de leche. Both amazing. Ambience in cafe was very relaxing and informal and food was first class. Will definitely return and highly recommend

For our wedding anniversary weekend, we booked an Experience at Niche. So friendly, and so comfortable. Nobody rushed us, and the food was absolutely amazing.

Everything was just perfect, the amazing food, the presentation, the staff.My daughter, granddaughter and myself, had the most lovely afternoon, The hostess Samantha explained what the menu consisted off for our afternoon tea, we had as much coffee and tea that we could drink. The sandwiches were excellent, and then the cakes, so unique and amazing.Samantha was an excellent hostess nothing was too much trouble. We’d certainly recommend this unique experience to family and friends. Thank you Niche, for an afternoon to remember.

The service you get here is outstanding. Yes you may have to wait a few minutes that’s because they don’t have someone standing like a statue at the till They are busy giving excellent customer service and they would come to you and number of occasions to make sure everything’s okay if you’re staying in and having food of any kind or even if you’re taking away they’ve got great manners, We fully enjoyed our afternoon tea that we went for on Saturday, 18th of February. As we expected the standard of the food is excellent, credit to all the team, not just the ones at the front the guys in the back making incredible delicious food.

I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday and had a lovely afternoon. This is a family business and it was really welcoming from the second we arrived. We were offered as much tea and coffee as we wanted and the food was exceptional. There were tasty sandwiches and the best quiche and sausage roll we’ve ever tasted. Nothing was rushed and when we were ready we were brought a beautiful array of scones, cakes and tarts.absolute faultless-we’ve just got to think of another special occasion so that we can go back. Perfect.
