Drove 30 minutes to here on Good Friday as I’d heard good reviews! So glad I did; generous portions, battered cod cooked to perfection and lovely chips ( not greasy at all!) Definitely my new number one for fish and chips!

Without doubt the best chips around, fish is beautifully cooked not dripping in oil like some other places. Staff are always welcoming and happy to help. Great food, great service, what more can you ask for.

We have been here a few times and always had the most delicious fish and chips. The fish is cooked there and then to your liking. We will definitely be back 👍

I visited the chip shop at tea time and ordered pudding chips and gravy twice. I observed the woman who was serving me take the puddings out of the fridge and place them in the microwave. I thought then that it was strange because usually they are in a bamboree whilst they steam. This was after the woman had asked me three times what I wished to order. When I got home and plated them up the bottom of the puddings were still frozen and inedible, resulting in us throwing them away and going without our tea. What a waste of money. Needless to say i will not be returning.

This is a very good chippy, super clean and modern with a lot of choice. Prices are low, the lowest of most in St Helens. Chips and gravy (small) was a generous portion for small, this, along with a can of diet Coke came to £3.00. Cant be beat for value and they do kebabs which look good quality too especially the chicken kebabs. Staff are friendly and presentable. Theres a small seating area too with about four or five clean tables. In summary Lots to choose from, fair prices, generous portions and a clean environment. There are kid size menu items too.

Sign in the wall that’s not in your line of sight that says, please ask for more batter if required. Wish I had seen that as I don’t think they put any on my fish at all. Missed off barmcake and chips from my order too. Half of kebab meat was charcoaled and the other half looked like is was raw. Don’t go in late just before closing and ask for anything or you’ll get the death stare from the lovely ladies working there. They have a slushy machine which was quite nice, but more expensive than the shop on the end of the road. Situated in Cambridge road which is infested with the north face hoodies smoking weed and leaving bikes all over the pavement. These of course have nothing to do with the shop. I’d try the fish again but only with batter and checking my order before I left the shop.

got a mixed kebab, (Donner and chicken) the chicken was charcoaled and the Donner was so under cooked it was inedible. the chips gravy was left as it had a big blob of congealed gravy in it. The wait for the was over 20 mins as well. stay away.

This is my local chippy. When it first opened the lite bite was excellent value for money. Enough chips and a decent size fish. On the last 2 occasions I had the lite bite the fish wasn't much bigger than a fish finger. Long wait in the chippy as they were busy getting online orders out. You would do well to remember your local customers!

Womble Inn is a small place in the Hardshaw shopping centre which is part butchers, part deli and, thanks to a counter at the back, part fast food takeaway. The range of food on offer includes breakfast barms, burgers, chicken nuggets and curry and chips amongst others. When I visited there was a fairly long queue whereas the Waterfields Choice bakery a few doors down was empty which was a promising sign. I opted for a beef brisket and onion barm which for £2.60 was very good value with plenty of filling and certainly for me was a far better option than going to McDonald's for a processed beef burger. I'd bought my barm before going to a rugby match at the TW Stadium and was so happy with what I'd been served that I went back after the match, but unfortunately they'd stopped serving hot food by then. I'd very much recommend this place as a better option than McDonalds or KFC as you'll not only get better food at a decent price but you'll also be supporting a local business. I don't know when I'll next be in Sint Ellins in the daytime but I'll be most likely be heading to Womble Inn for lunch whenever that might be.
